Trinity isn't actually a greatest hits. Most of it is new. The "Greatest" SV
stuff has to include J-Dilla. :)
Its a decent record. They should have left "Fall in Love" alone, it was fine
the way it was.
The other record called "Dirty District" is full of unreleased SV material
as well as various collaborations. I think this one is actually better than
"Trinity." Just my 2 pennies.

I just picked up a copy of this over the WE, 8$CA.

besides the Textures album which was licenced to R&S

We are desperately trying to find this man who on the 7th of October (well

a

certain mr hawtins equipment while balancing a bottle of sambuca on his
head.

He is a suspect of these following crimes:

* Harassing young innocent Swedish girls with his video-cam.
*   Reckless drinking and dancing.
* Threatening the bartender with the words "I will send mike
for you..." if he doesn´t make him another mojito.
* Trying to wrestle down a bouncer when he says he don´t know
who the number one Detroit bachelor is

If you see this man please don´t attempt to arrest him on your own. He is
known for getting people into trouble with his smooth way of talking and
never drink anything he tries to give you. Contact the Swedish embassy for
assistance and try to stay calm and out of range from him.

If you, Mr Plaslaiko, get this message...please surrender and contact us
immediately.

Thank you for your co-operation.

2002-10-08 Thread Fabrizio Nahum
Hi,
my all-time jazz favourite si L'ascenseur pur l'enchefaud - soundtrack to
the french film noir of the same name - by Miles Davis (1954 iirc). The film
is by Louis Malle and its with Jeanne Moreau.
Brilliant atmospheric cl jazz, composed by Davis by watching the scenes
and improvising along.

Another interesting note: the trumpet produced a unique sound for some songs
on that record due to the fact that a piece of skin from Davis' lip entered
the "blower" modifiying the sound of the trumpet

I listen to Panthalassa (Bill Laswell remixes) quite a lot and enjoy it
tremedhously. Its mixes of his electric period.

Same sort of funky jazz fusions as Herbie Hancocks Headhunters LP but
Panthallassa has a lot more atmosherics, effects and 'deepness'. Most of its
resonalbly close to the source materail.

Most Purists dont like it by the way.

2002-10-08 Thread Maarten Baute
Hi,

I have a compilation from Larry Levan with "loose joints - is it all over my
face" on it. Great disco cut, but I heard someone play a version with a male
vocal in it? This is a different version than the one the larry levan
west-end compilation. Is it a mix featured on the original west end release
back in the day? help!

And second, I am getting more and more into the jazz kind of things.. but I
want to get me some miles davis stuf (pretty obvious).. but I don´t know
wich lp´s I should purchase... any suggestions?

Thanks a lot,
Maarten

(313) Record sale finds...

2002-10-08 Thread Gerald
Just had to share my recent purchases from a dj record sale the other
night.

Metro - "$1.15 Please" EP (Nu Groove)
Victor Simonelli - Move To The Body [mixes] (Vendetta)
Chiapet - Westworld (Yoshitoshi) -- been looking for this for a while
Ministry - Halloween remix (Wax Trax)

and what really made all the digging worthwhile...

Midi Mechanixx feat. The Wizard - (Vibe Records)
Side 1: Pump Wid Acid (Detroit mix)
Pump Wid Dis (Toronto mix)
Side 2: Technopump (vocal)
Technopump (Pump Beats)
Robohop (He Speaks)
Robohop (Instrumental)

picked this one up from some kid who is into breaks - looks like he
might of listened to it once or twice. Not a scratch on it.

All for a grand total of $17 cdn. :)

Cheers!

A Heartwarming Derek "The Player" Plaslaiko story:

A few years back he played in Iowa City on a Friday and stayed until Sunday
to save us a bunch of money on his plane ticket. On Saturday we asked him
what he wanted to do, and he said "Play Pool."

Now I suck at pool. I figured Derek was into it, and would smoke us all.

Heh. He was horrible. It was like 5 year olds playing. I think Megan
won. But we had fun, and many pitchers.

The idea of him on the loose in Sweden is terrifying though. Those
pacifist, socialist Swedes are in grave danger.

he was on the Time:Space Live tour back in autumn 99. iirc he played drums

That "Textures" album still blows me away, and besides a track for TS1 and

i don't know of anything else by him i'm afraid.

Speaking of "Textures", does anyone know if that one came out on vinyl as

yep, it was definitely released on vinyl - my copy's the black stuff, on New

Label art

Rhythim Is Rhythim - Beginning (KoolKat)
Innerzone Orchestra - Programmed (180 grams vinyl sleeve)

Lucky finds

Underground Solution - LuvDancing

1)last week i asked about everyone's favorite label art,
this week it's time
for your favorite sleeve. now most of the house/techno
records i buy
nowadays, come in a plain black or white sleeve, but there
are a few nice
exceptions to the rule. one of my my favorite sleeves is not
[313] but
[312]:

lil louis and the world - journey with the lonely lp

which i just won on ebay [< $10 !!!]

2)so what have been your most lucky finds?
an extremely expensive record, that you found cheap, or a
record you had
been looking for that you found somewhere, you'd never
expected it to find,
or a tune you had been looking for for ages, that you didn't
even know the
title of, that you happened to stumble upon.
to me this is probably the most fun part of searching for
records [well not
always...] digging the 2nd hand/used records bins everywhere
you see them.
you'll be surprised at what gemms you can find at unusual
places.

3)just like a lot of other [313]list members i went to
amsterdam last friday
to hear brett dancer and larry heard play some records at
paradisco3000. and
had a great time! brett was already playing when i got in at
around 1.30,
and he played a quality set, with almost only classics, from
ymo, to model
500, 'washing machine','altered states' and many more. larry
came after him
around 3.00, and [to me] never really got going, maybe it
was because brett
dancer played quite a hard set, so going deep after that,
and keeping the
dancefloor filled at the same time was difficult. by 4.00 a
lot of people
had allready left, and that's not really helping the dj
either. but he still
played some great tracks, he even played 'energy flash', not
a record i had
expected to hear that night. so all in all, i had a great
night, great music
nice people, and great looking women [yes, that ís important
too.]
and paradiso has got a lot more to offer the next couple of
months: leroy
burgess, domu, sun ra dedication night with jimi tenor &
kirk de giorgio,
and i think i saw a poster announcing kerri chandler?

I get the computer vs live mix debate though - I find some ProTools >mixes
boring but I really think it's just the person behind the mouse.

isn't part of the reason why most mix cd's sound lame is because of the fact
that a mix on cd is something completely different from a mix in a club? mr
fingers 'washing machine' sounds completely different when listening to it
at home, compared to hearing it on loud speakers in a club! this has nothing
to do with using a computer for the mixing part, or doing it live, and
everything with the intention off the mixer [as MEK stated] if my memory is
correct, didn't derrick may make mix tapes for the radio, where he would
record a set, and cut it to pieces, to end up with a one hour mix? i think
mix cd's should be approached like that a lot more [though lisencing
problems might be a bit more of a problem.] and a computer could be used to
achieve that.
on another note, i believe strongly that you should make mistakes while
mixing... i'm not talking trainwrecking all night, but mixing seemless for
an entire evening will [imho] make your set sound sterile and lets you loose
focus on the music, whereas small mistakes will get your attention, and
thereby give more attention to the music you're playing.

"The Player" in question has a weakness. Like Superman is to Kryptonite, is
a substance known as Shoutgun Willie's Hot Sauce is to "The Player". Apply
liberally on said "Player", and find him flail about and rendered useless.

This insider information brought to you from field agent information

RE: (313) The Third Wave?

2002-10-08 Thread Wibo Lammerts
As far as I recall it was never really published? It was a download only
thing, from one of the first transmat websites...

So... Does anyone still have it?

Detroit techno?

Yes, but "Reality Slap" wasn't as much about Detroit techno
per se, but techno was kind of the backdrop of what was happening in the
main characters social life, working with Transmat, all the music and cities
(Detroit, London) references, adventures, etc. I thought it was pretty
well written. Used to be available for download somewhere on the internet
but not sure where anymore.

If you can find it it's definitely worth reading, this might
be one for the FAQ.. :)

peace,
Matt

Re: (313) Mayday Mix

2002-10-08 Thread sean deason
just to clear up any confusion:
the MayDay mix *was* done live. the *edits* were done later on a computer
(and a bit of little known trivia: the edits were done by Kenny Larkin.) For
me the edits dont in any way take away from the brillance of this mix.
