(313) new records and public life
haha brilliant photos from the 313 UK party. nice to see some faces to some familiar names...jonny, stewart, great balancing act with that cig man half ashed! ;) bought a few choice records the last couple of weeks that deserve a note of attention. new Todd Sines on Planet e...excellent record! even like the dubbed out BC stylo cut. got a promo copy of the new Transmat Time Space 2 comp thanks to Kevin Reynolds at Transmat! :) and it's also a must buy...the stand out tracks are from fellow 313'er Philip McGarva BC style and DB being my favs...what are those children chanting philip? also new tracks by new artist San Soleil and Lucien Nicolette. A great comp and so far no news of when the domestic release will appear. As mentioned the Metro Area album with 4 new tracks and the Kelley Polar Quartet audition EP with those amazing strings! both buy on sight! gotta also mention this new MAW record that made me do a double take when I heard it in the store. It's very good and very 80's but nice and dubbed out like Masters at Work always do. especially had a big smile on my face when I saw how big the label was ala FUZZ Dance 12s of old. anyone else got new records to review? anyone heard the new Rush Hour limited aardvarck 12? heard it was suppose to be very classic sounding like psyche/bfc sonding stuff from mike kivits. minto = down low music http://downlowmusic.org OUT NOW: Arne Weinberg Beauty in Decay dL008 Convextion 12 dLVEXT1 UPCOMING: dL ltd tribute 12 dLpgccX, Polarius 12 dL009 Dan Curtin distort.archive.desire dL010 2003 The Connection Machine Painless dLCMLP1 2003 __ Do you Yahoo!? Apologies for the off-topic request, but: Does anyone recall the early ( maybe 1995) jungle track that sampled the film Candyman? Need an artist/Label ID. (313) hurley and pullen mix sets
this satdee night on 2jjj (10pm e.s.t. - Australia) has a 90 min set from Steve Silk Hurley and a 90 min set from Stacey Pullen + short interviews with both The Hurley mix is ok. Dunno what happened to the skills and the records he had when he was part of the Hotmix 5but he drops a few chi classics and nice disco stuff amongst his newer club soulful palava. His interview is cool talks a little about djs not having the same sort of skills they did back in the day and also a lil about his fallout with Farley Jackmaster over Love Can't Turn Around - cool dude The Pullen mix is 90mins taken live from a Melb gig - his usual apparently diverse eurotechno/house mix. neither are detroit really.kinda peripheral though and worthy of a listen live streams: http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/triplej.ram (realplayer link) http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/triplej.asx (windows media player) and then archived instantly after at: http://triplej.abc.net.au/mixup/sets/default.htm worth a listen

Yeah Cheers Marc, another one to add to my wish list (out of stock!) Does anyone know what the deal is with groovetech re-oredering. They hint towards something on the site about if there's enough demand and it's still in print they'll re-order. Does 'demand' mean how many people have it on their wishlist? Will they re-order old stuff (still in print) or only re-presses and new releases that sell out quickly? Hmm, I hope they don't get all the records on my wishlist at once it'll cost me a fortune. (313) Tonight: Ann Arbor
Hi. If you are in Ann Arbor, I wholeheartedly suggest you check out Derek Plaslaiko at the Necto tonight, or Ectomorph with Carlos Souffront at the Blind Pig. Either place you are guarenteed a fun night. And it's very rare that two wonderful things happen in Ann Arbor at once. If you aren't, I will guest hosting on Crush Collision tonight on WCBN 88.3FM from 10pm-12am tonight. For the first hour I will be featuring a label profile/showcase on Environ records, with some stuff from Balihu Records for good measure. The second hour will probably be focused on releases from classic producers Leroy Burgess, Greg Carmichael and Patrick Adams. Again that's tonight (10/31) from 10-12am EST on 88.3FM, or listen online at www.wcbn.org Thanks. And if you're wearing Addidas today, unlace them.

I've heard mixed reviews of this but I haven't heard it yet - I take it it's the Kraftwerk sampling Tranz 12? The last MAW I liked was Odyssey about 4 years ago but all of a sudden I've started liking some things: the Jazzanova mix of Our Time Is Coming is great - a kind of Roy Ayers megamix thing, and V's In Time I really like, too. I've heard KDJ playing MAW records, though that was about 4 years ago, too ;) - Original Message - From: Matthew MacQueen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Minto George [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Thursday, October 31, 2002 4:17 PM Subject: RE: (313) new records and public life gotta also mention this new MAW record that made me do a double take when I heard it in the store. Re: (313) Akufen party in the D
I think you may be referring to Dandy Jack. Luciano played first- sort of a Perlon-on-Coke sound if you ask me. It was alright, but every time it started getting good, he'd find some way to screw it up. Akufen played second, which was a letdown for me. He was pretty much playing entire tracks from his records live on his laptop without much manipulation, and overall it lacked any serious energy. I left during Akufen's set but Carlos Souffront said that Dandy Jack came on after and ripped sh!t up for the lucky people who stuck around- some serious jackin stuff for the dance floor..too bad i missed it. p On Thu, 31 Oct 2002, Darren Longton (Marketing) wrote: Can anyone tell me who the second live act was at the Akufen party at the works last wknd?
