Another vote for Rush Hour. I didn't make it to Outland in time (remember that shops in .nl have shorter hours than us Yanks are used to) but have heard good things. Love the Outland record labels over the years -- distinguished by the outstanding Dadara cover art. (I wanted to pass on a good display of that but his web site seems to be down now). (313) Fw: GD LUXXE opens the '21st Door'
ARTIST: GD LUXXE TITLE: THE 21ST DOOR LABEL: INTERDIMENSIONAL TRANSMISSIONS FORMAT: CD RELEASE DATE: 24 MARCH 2003 Finding inspiration from the darker side of electronic music of all eras, Gerhard Potuznik has put together a ground breaking album entitled the 21st Door for Ectomorph's Interdimmensional Transmissions. Gerhard Potuznik began making music in Vienna in the early 80s, initially as a guitarist. A staunch fan of all things dark and quirky, Gerhard is perhaps the hardest working man in electronic music. From production to songwriting to releasing his music in multiple genres in many countries, this man does it all. With an unfathomable amount of material already released (including his productions with Pulsinger & Tunakan on Cheap as iO, and his production work for Chicks on Speed) it is his G D Luxxe project that is his strongest. With releases as G D Luxxe on Ersatz Audio, Breakin, and Suction, he is dedicated to taking his quality music to as many worthy outlets as possible, but his Factory obsessed full length for IT is a totally different story. Herein we find him exploring his obsessions while crossing so many boundaries: rock (a cover of T Rex included), IDM, EBM, Italian Disco broken English, electro, techno and beyond. This is fresh music from a true innovator. This is a record sure to cross boundaries and turn heads. In an era of fast food music, IT bring you nutrition. IT is a label that doesn't just release records, it releases milestones, from the visionary >From Beyond series that debuted I-f's "Space Invaders" to the world, to the early Ectomorph relics that still set the standard. In 2003, IT is taking a new approach by releasing numerous albums, three amazing full lengths from 3 leaders of their sounds. Coming soon from the label is an EP from newly signed Perspects, "The Third and Final Report" (IT 19) due out as you read this and coming later this year is a remix 12" and his debut full length. This year will also see the Ectomorph album (IT 18) and world tour. 2003 marks the new beginning of Interdimensional Transmissions. Enter it via the 21st Door. www.star67.com

Outland Records was quite cool last time I visited. The Mazzo Club is ok ,but check the listings as they don't call Techno, Techno,( stange!) so look for DJ's rather than nights :)..Also another club is on the canal. erm I 4get the name but will check later for you .Paradise? something like that. Could that be Club Paradiso? I have a Bad Brains live album recorded there. Pretty amazing gig by the sound of it, though it has been a few years since I listened to it (ahem). BTW, saw that Norman Jay played this on Giant 45 last night: UR (Nation 2 Nation EP) Big Stone Lake Underground Resistance Should I be surprised by this? Hadn't noticed his 313 leanings before. He followed it with 'Today' by Tom Scott, which the hip hop heads among you will recognise from Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth's "T.R.O.Y". A track approaching the acme in soulful hip hop production IMHO. erm, promise to say something 313 related soon. Dan
RE: (313) sleep music
One other thing, when I solicited contributions earlier I also meant that I'd like to receive input on how such an event should be run (e.g. time, day of the week, amount of soft furnishings etc) As far as ethos goes, I think Brendan summed it up quite nicely with: "I miss those days when people would just lie around and listen to whatever pieces of sparkly electronic music you felt like playing for them..." Dan. SLEEP MUSIC 1. Why can't you hear this kind of thing played out in clubs? Two obvious answers I suppose, firstly - you can but I've missed it, secondly - because clubs want people to dance and buy beer rather than fall asleep. What happened to all the backrooms? I used to have some wicked sleeps in them. 2. Would anyone in London/UK be intersted in coming/contributing to an event based on this kind of music if I organised it, in a warehouse rather than a club? (Possibly Sunday mornings?) This is actually a long time bugbear of mine since despite my various playing out guises, 'sleepy' music is my true DJing love + a lot of the material has strong influences/been influenced/includes 313 stuff. Any views? Dan P.S. I'm not talking about the big chill here, though respect is due. my picks from Dreamland: Harold Budd "The White Arcades" TUU "All Our Ancestors" Loop Guru "The Third Chamber" Global Communication "Pentamerous Metamorphosis" out Wibo

The strange thing is that there's an odd mini-clique of ex-ambient people involved in booty bass these days - Ed DMX, for example, who's put out a few DJ Nasty records on his label, also used to work in Ambient Soho, and Andrea Parker is a kind of alumni of the whole scene as well (album out on Mo'Wax - need we say more? :) I fully expect to enter a club one of these days to find Mixmaster Morris in his shiny silver suit up on stage blasting out Aaron Carl's "Down" - at +8! I'd be interested in it, not least because I was a pretty purist ambient DJ for a while between 1993 and 1996, working at Ambient Soho and playing out regularly at Megatripolis, The Ambient Club, Big Chill, Cooltan and other places like that! This thread has generally made me get a bit nostalgic about this kind of music, and a lot of the albums/EPs people have been suggesting have rekindled quite a few old memories. I'd definitely be interested in getting involved, if only because I miss those days when people would just lie around and listen to whatever pieces of sparkly electronic music you felt like playing for them... RE: (313) sleep music
OH CHRIST! I went away for 2 weeks and I came back to almost 800 new messages in my inbox - the vast majority being from this list (I know, I should have unsubscribed) - spent most of this morning sorting them, good thing I don't have a job or anything anyway, on to more important things: SLEEP MUSIC 1.

Re: (313) Electronome and k-1 doing it in 2003
Hi Everyone, I had the pleasure of attending the launch party of this record on Friday night in a small town outside Amsterdam called Heiloo. The venue, Buk Buk, had two rooms, plenty of space and a cheap bar so we were happy straight away. List members Koert Notaria and Dennis, alongside Electronome, provided a fairly fast and furious ride through the night- I know Koert wasn't entirely happy with the party but anyone who plays Mr Fingers "Stars", Kaos and Strings Of Life (Flam-boy-ant mix) in the one set gets the thumbs up from me. There was a double CD called Chilled Euphoria http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=4:12:26|AM&sql=A2n851vs3zzpa which has some 'nice' luillaby tunes on it. Re: (313) Kraftwerk - Sydney short Review
I got to see them again in Sydney on Saturday at the music festival "The Big Day Out". Heaps of people watching this time (10,000+???). They looked like they were having a lot better time that at Enmore on Wednesday night. Toe-tapping and the occasional smirk crossed their faces. People screaming (yes, screaming) requests at them. Pretty much the same set minus one or two songs, with a couple being shortened compared to Wednesday night's performance. And this time to got to stand _right_ at the front of the stage. Probably only a couple of metres away from me. Too much fun! Toby Frith wrote: jeez, I saw them twice in Paris last year, and I'm *still* jealous. It was great to see the tracks and the guys (even though they barely acknowledged the crowd - no suprises there ;-) The enmore theatre was packed. It was very cool to hear EXPO 2000 - with the "detroit is..so electric" - "germany is..so electric.." samples. It would be cool to see at the melbourne show some breaking/bboy action to the numbers/tour de france tracks!. it wasn't clear from whre i was sitting how much of the show was actually live..from what i could see Ralf (?) was using the microphone ocasionaly..but sound was coming out even when he wasn't talking into the microphone. now if only we can get a UR/Kraftwerk australian tour happening... any adelaide people heading over to the melbourne show next wednesday? cheers, dave
