(313) question/help re: questionable program/possible virus (ot)
(apologies for crossposting) Dear listmembers: I always scan attachments for viruses before I open them and yet have just encountered a problem I can't seem to solve. A friend emailed me a document entitled 1stpressrelease.pdf.pif When i downloaded it to my desktop, it showed up not as a document, but as a shortcut with the MSDOS icon. When I tried to open it up in the newest version of Adobe Acrobat, it wouldn't work, so I threw it in the recylce bin and then emptied the bin (and emailed my friend who sent me the attachment). I thought all was well, but I've just found that there is now a program in my startup called befy.exe; i have scanned this file about ten times and my updated norton antivirus doesn't say it is a virus, but there doesn't seem to be any way I can delete this file; a properties query tells me that it is an application. I'm quite anxious because I have gigs here in Halifax tomorrow and Friday nights and then I leave for a mini-tour on Tuesday, so I definitely want to get this application off my computer and make sure everything is A-OK. Any help would be super appreciated. Thank you. he's a pretty decent guy. we both started around the same time sorta shared equipment once or twice. his first joint was basically a demo tape called rize. it got bootlegged oodles of times an urban legend was born. if my ears are to be the judge, he's more comfy in the studio than on the stage. he's done some utterly amazing ish behind the boards, but seems a little bit unsure live. i'm sure he'll be alright in time though. i wouldn't mind making a baby or two to his stuff;-) jph on 7/22/03 11:55 AM, Allday, Andrew at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: agreed andrew...the album may not be as good as expected but it has it's moments..the truth for one...like you say it's proper soul music. for the real deal try getting hold of the bootleg of his unreleased album.i forget the title but it's well worth checking. -Original Message- From: Andrew [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 22 July 2003 16:50 To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) dwele Hmm, well I don't know what you were expecting. Re: (313) Technics 1200s question
I too have US tables that I would like to use in Europe. Some of the tables on the US market, like mine, do not have the switch for 110 / 220 V. Mine are explicitly marked for 110 V and 60 Hz only. Getting a converter for the voltage is no problem, but I haven't yet been able to confirm with absolute certainty that the 50 Hz European AC vs. 60 Hz US AC will not be a problem. Normally, a motor should run slower at this lower frequency, but I have read on one occasion that everything is converted to DC inside the 1200, and from there, DC controlled oscillators are used for controlling the table speed. Has anyone ever actually done this with a Technics 1200 marked only for use at 60 Hz? I'm trying to decide whether to have mine shipped from the US to Denmark or not. Anyone know the inner workings of this beast? The technical info that I find online is a bit vague and sometimes ambiguous. My attempts to contact service people working at Panasonic and elsewhere has been without much luck... Any tips are appreciated, Brent On Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at 11:04 PM, Dennis DeSantis wrote: Hi folks, I'm no DJ, so this is probably a dumb question for most of you. RE: (313) mike grant/what's lighting your candle
Ken said: ...many djs imo are still bizarrely dipping into what seems to me the majority of releases which are weaker, from the areas we like... This comment intrigued me, could you elaborate on this?? /Dave Hi, Nothing too deep. Just consider this. On this list this year (already) there have been some records which have been recommended. Most of the time, if one happens to pick one of this tips up, they turn out to be at least interesting and sometimes, downright *amazing*! And they're across the map - I mean, not necessarily in one particular sub-genre. Yet despite this, how often have you gone out and not only have you *not* heard any these obviously available tracks, but instead have heard ones which whilst you don't know their origin, you wish you hadn't become aquainted with them at all! We're all guilty of 'obscuritis' at times I admit: the tendency to favour that which is barely known outside a very small circle of devotees. Perhaps there is a touch of this going on, with some dj's selections. It's when perfectly good, but relatively well-known stuff (which is ironic considering that 'relatively well-known' in our sphere of interest is still damn obscure from a wider perspective, but hey ...) is eschewed for lesser known but (sometimes) bloody naff alternatives (I wonder if English curses are let through?! ;-). This doesn't apply to all disc players, but everyone will be afflicted at sometime it seems. As I say, I admit, this could just be my subjective opinion and I'm getting ancient too ;-) (by some people's standards) but it seems to me that the above is too often the case, though not always, of course. And I don't want to make too much of this either - I mean, to a large extent, who cares? The above gripe is one of the reasons why we organize our own events isn't it?! Peace k

(313) K Hand
Currently digging through not-so-recent Tresor releases - this K Hand's album, Detroit History, is really good... funky, a bit industrial, gritty, tons of nice ideas, absolutely perfect for my tastes in techno... I also really liked her K7! appearances ; I've seen on Discogs.com that she has plenty of releases on Ausfahrt, are they as good ? and are the 12 on Acacia worth tracking down, I already have the Acacia classics vol 1 CD ? Well if you think that 'Detroit History' is outstanding, you probably think that her other material is brilliant, personally i think that Detroit History is a horrible album and one of the worst Tresor records in a long time but i do love her early material on Acacia, especially the house stuff she did. Well if you think that 'Detroit History' is outstanding, you probably think that her other material is brilliant, personally i think that Detroit History is a horrible album and one of the worst Tresor records in a long time but i do love her early material on Acacia, especially the house stuff she did. I also really liked her K7! appearances ; I've seen on Discogs.com that she has plenty of releases on Ausfahrt, are they as good ? and are the 12 on Acacia worth tracking down, I already have the Acacia classics vol 1 CD ? cool pics - thanks for sharing those :) the pic Moodyman during the Three Chairs DJ set is neat (Sunday album) - was he wearing a mask or is that a shadow? lisa Hans Veneman wrote: OK, we're kind of late with this, but finally a big part of the pictures we took last may in Detroit are online now, including of course pictures of the Movement festival as well as the Techno Brings People Together event. Nope it is a mask Now i am wondering who played more during the festival, Ayro or John Arnold, these huys must have been running from one stage to the other, they were all over the place, not forgetting the afterparties they played to! Now i am wondering who played more during the festival, Ayro or John Arnold, these huys must have been running from one stage to the other, they were all over the place, not forgetting the afterparties they played to! I saw John Arnold just once (with John Beltran), but Ayro, Amp Fiddler and that percussionist were all over the festival the whole weekend. If they played for free the whole weekend they deserve a medal, although i think they might also enjoy playing live :) Hans -- Hans Veneman [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://technotourist.org

No? Was Jeremy Ellis also playing with the Detroit Experiment at one point? I can't recall. I know he was on the album but can't remember the set. Amp Fiddler certainly made his rounds too though! I think his live set was the top moment of the festival for me, matched only by Traxx at Cannonball. Oh, and re: Dwele, I thought he was great live! Jason, I think I know what you mean about his comfort levels, but I thought he did a great job of joking with the crowd in order to put himself at ease, etc. Plus, I was really surprised at how well it translated from such pristine studio production to a coherent live performance. Wicked! The live sets were certainly the highlight of the festival this year for me. Tristan === Text/Mixes/Pics: http://www.phonopsia.co.uk Music: http://www.mp313.com Contact: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
