There's nothing like a bit of intemperance early in the morning and
here's one from me:

Phonica (and the co and people from which it evolved) is well-known in
our little technowelt for its sharp practices and p.o.s. attitude to
both customers and staff. I've also noticed that the descriptions on the
records are often inaccurate at best (e.g. saying Black Noize is
actually Shake?!) and at worst misleading. Selling this boot and giving
out the subtext of the tracks being 'ultra-rare' as a kind of
justification, seems to be just an extension of the above.

There I feel better now...

Good news since clear vinyl looks nice, but wears out very fast.

One of my last year highlights, Ai's Station compilation, has turned into more
snack-cracle-pop than music. First time I'm eventually thinking of getting
something as a fully priced cd also. Must be a marketing trick!

(even though it said that the highs are crisper on clear vinyl due to the
missing graphite, which act as a lubricant and thus muffling the sound)

Not that these are facts, but still worth reading:
http://www.discogs.com/forums/topic?topic_id=6178

At least the view is aligned with my collection of clear LP's - especially
those whitey ones with many tracks. Unit Moebius' Kuiken on CFET - skips, Dan
Curtin on 33rpm - skips, so it's no wonder I try to avoid coloured pressings if
black is available. They're nice if you like to decorate :)

Hi Francis

I've been using SS for some years now and I have to say, it never gave me
any problems. It is a bit of a resource hog though from time 2 time. It's
handy if you want to check out new music before ordering it online without
knowing what it is you're buying... (well thats what I use it for, mainly)

Donations give you download privileges for 30 days, wich means if you do a
search and you want to download one of the results, you'll end up on top of
the (if any) queue. (that is, if no one else with privileges is in that
queue)

Furthermore, you can make a userlist and say if you wanna share with the
world, or just with ppl in that list. Handy to prevent leeches from grabbing
all your shared stuff.

Works excellent for me, it's free, never any security issues (running XP pro
so enough issues there) so I'd just say give it a try.

If you want to add me to your SLSK userlist - my UN is pascal1971. Got some
nice sets to share!

Cheers

Pascal.

2005-01-11 Thread ddonohue
From the words of industry legend ron Murphy, black vinyl is always used
time and again, but coloured or clear vinyl is usually the most pure, as
when you scrape off the last bits, it goes into the glob of black and
whatever else. He told me that common practice is also to have the black
vinyl at a lower waulity level, because it CAN be, but clear or coloured
vinyl has to be at a certain purity level just to be clear or coloured.
In other words, most black vinyl is of a lower level, but it doesn't HAVE
to be. Because of the higher purity level, though, I do believe that the
vinyl is a bit softer, but that's why it plays better (and purportedly
does wear faster, but can be avoided with good weighting, etc)...

C'mon folks, confirm the view of those who, on hearing about a forum on
Detroit techno, think I bet they talk about loads of nerdy stuff on there.

Thursday January 13

The Bunker presents

Monolake (Chain Reaction, Imbalance Computer Music | Berlin) live pa

Monolake will have a new album out on his own Imbalance
Computer Music label this summer. This album is a return to
more dancefloor oriented material, and his new live set
will reflect this.

We have been huge Monolake fans ever since they (used to be
a duo, now solo) were releasing music for the infamous
Chain Reaction label.

In addition to making some of the best electronic music of
the past decade, Monolake has also worked on programming
some of the best music software, including Max/MSP and the
ubiquitous Ableton Live.

Tonic
107 Norfolk Street (between Rivington and Delancey)
midnight show
