Cheers Martin. I heard they were revisiting the Detroit flavour. It being
Tresor though, it's the 'secret life of Detroit's hard dance' side rather than
the better known melodic side! I like both sides though and I dig Tresor, so
I'll check...

(313) Terrace Interesting Times LP Feedback

2005-10-18 Thread Martin Dust
If you liked The Hackers last album you'll love this, it's got a retro
vibe going on but not in a bad way! There's some beautiful analogue
sounds happening on this album, coupled with some great programming and
track structure. Accent Drop is my favourite track, fantastic break
down and very emotive piece of work, had me suckered from the start.
There's a Detroit flavour throughout but it certainly doesn't worship
at the alter of the sound of 88/89, there's also a tip of the hat to
Kraftwerk and the early synth lines of DM/Numan/League but with a lot
more funk than the simple synth lines of yesteryear. Makes you wanna
dig out the tracks just to make a mix, great piece of work.

Picks:
Downfall, Accent Drop, Pathfinder and Compound One

(313) Richard H. Kirk

2005-10-18 Thread Martin Dust
Not sure how many people are fans on the list but he's done some
sterling work and his back catalogue has just hit iTunes, worth a
listen just to see what he's been up to, sorry for it being a bit
spammy in advance and no I'm not on 10%...

or was it one on organico? I'm pretty sure this is it though. Gorgeous

Sounds right to me. But I read an interview with Farina in KEEP ON, i
think, where he said they recorded and had this KMS record ready to go
months before 808State released Pacific 202. They were bummed that
Kevin dragged his feet and didn't release it right away, and 808State
sort of beat them to the punch with Pacific202 defining the whole

anything away from Pacific 202 either :)

Heeey, long as it's grooving, it's alright-ite-ite now. Sounds like a
decent definition to me. But I know what you mean though. :) and yeah,
you're right. I never knew what year organico started. I kinda always
felt that they were there longer than they were I guess. And tripping
among the stars (sans farina) was brilliant as well imo.

hello martin,
thanks for the itunes pointer. richard did this one month too late
for me. i was in a big sandoz-rhk kick last month and spent way to
much money on ebay catching up on his releases! to me his best stuff
is the sandoz 'digital lifeforms redux', 'intensely radioactive', and
'dark continent' albums as well as the rhk 'virtual state' lp. but
there are a few releases listed below that i missed so now i dont
have to pay a fortune to get them. thanks again for the pointer!

btw: any chance the dust science stuff will appear on itunes soon? i
would love to get all the 12s i havent been able to find here on the
states onto my ipods! let me know!

Not sure how many people are fans on the list but he's done some
sterling work and his back catalogue has just hit iTunes, worth a
listen just to see what he's been up to, sorry for it being a bit
spammy in advance and no I'm not on 10%...

wow - good question, problem is I don't really ever pay attention to how
old any particular artist is (how many of them advertise thier age anyway?)

My friend and I were talking about producers and djs within the
techno/detroit/electronic big genre who we liked that were under 25 y/o.
We were pressed to come up with names, not that we are ageist, but is
techno the new adult contemporary?
You folks know your music, who is worth watching or hearing that isn't just
another jaded generation x er.

hmm i am 24 since saturday ... here are a few names younger than me :
grovskopa, reeko, dustin zahn, jesse somfay taht sound quite promising
though not constant in quality (ie in my tastes)

im not sure diego from kanzleramt is already 25 though it should be in a
few months, but hes definitely very talented for his age hes working on
two more new albums by the end of the year

It is true...but you can generally tell, signs of old age...
1. balding, note shaved heads are very 2001 2. glasses or hearing aids 3.
complaining when events end later than 2am.
But seriously, I think that most of the Grime genre artists from the UK are
under 25, like I said we were pressed to come up with names of younger folks
into the techy stuff. B. Calloway from Submerge is early 20s. Not that I
think that youth = innovation or hipness but when I look at artists that I have
cared about for a long time, their younger work really stands the test of time.
Unfortunately, the young or lack there of is really noticable at clubs in the
bay area, all you smell on the dance floor is ben gay.

2005-10-18 Thread Martin Dust

Hey Lance,

hello martin,
thanks for the itunes pointer. richard did this one month too late for me.
i was in a big sandoz-rhk kick last month and spent way to much money on
ebay catching up on his releases! to me his best stuff is the sandoz
'digital lifeforms redux', 'intensely radioactive', and 'dark continent'
albums as well as the rhk 'virtual state' lp. but there are a few releases
listed below that i missed so now i dont have to pay a fortune to get
them. thanks again for the pointer!

I still live in the past so I still like collecting objects Lance :) But
your welcome there's some great work listed. I'm a massive fan boy of his
work, under-rated for sure.

btw: any chance the dust science stuff will appear on itunes soon? i
would love to get all the 12s i havent been able to find here on the
states onto my ipods! let me know!

Should be early next year, I'm not a big fan but I can see the way it's all
going, so I'll have to give in at some point...

About european djs :

1) The older the producers are, the less they had to produce to proove
their dj skills and improve them in gigs. Example : Cox, Garnier or
Vath... Though they produced more or less good tracks aftert having
started to DJ its not what makes them famous and/or good.

2) After that you have the producers that started (very) young at the
moment there were quite few people on the scene (Adam Beyer etc.) they
are still under 30 and really famous / good (matter of taste).

3) Talking about the under 25 people, well these ones had to produce to
be heard as DJs. The techno industry burst with new labels consisting of
fruity loops / reason techno (more or less good, once more). This had
the result to create very ephemere stars.

After a few years and now the techno records / events do not sell
anymore, only the oldies and the bankables ones for the labels,
distributors and promoters.

Conclusion : young and good talents don't emerge becasue nobody wants to
risk money on them.

I think she dropped the tag now, so it's Natasha

Her site is here, she's come a long way since the start, last time I saw she
was brilliant and so is the mix on this page:

my man NCW is really good and i think he's like 23 or so?

http://www.discogs.com/artist/Nick+Wilson

he's kinda done with the hard techno sound now, he's going with a much
more abstract take on really lo fi nasty house stuff. his most recent jams
even have some soundhack esque bits, but much more grimey. and his mixes
that he's posted online (both ableton and vinyl) are really hot and varied
and strange.
