Jesus that's a lot of dough for Fat Freddy's Drop, Wajeed and Henrik Schwarz at a not-particularly-dance-friendly venue, and it's a Monday, but damn. I think I'll have to pop my Schwarz cherry at a later date. It just keeps getting pushed back by conflicts, and the bastard didn't play in Berlin over Popkomm week when I was there. He should come and play a PA at my house given how many of his records I've bought. :) Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED] > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: 07 December 2005 18:58 > To: 313@hyperreal.org > Subject: SPAM-MED: (313) Gilles Peterson Worldwide Music Awards > > > > > > Anyone going to this? Rob Hood's first track on Midnight World II as well. Hell, there's actually quite a bit of it. The Piece "Free Your Mind" track is another good one. On the other hand, do you have the latest Freedom Soundz on Neroli, Michael? It may be what you're looking for on the other end as well. (313) Stasis/Steve Pickton new releases?
Wasn't it said on 313 that he was doing more hip-hop style tracks now? What's been released? I was revisiting Past Movements on Peacefrog and I quite like his downtempo tunes. Looking for more of these B-side and "inside track" type grooves. I think it's quite interesting when "techno" producers stretch out and do hip-hop/downtempo. Usually the results are quite interesting. Much like 4 Hero doing techno - they come at it from a different angle and sound background. It tends to shed new light on the subject. Give me more of that please. MEK

Re: (313) new records
I scored some new vinyl yesterday, here's the juice: Terry Brookes - City Life - Rush Hour Got both the 12s as they're both essential. The C2 mixes are very very nice (big bass!) but so are all the other mixes. Quality. Hieroglyphic Being - Other Side of Time - Mathematics Kept missing this when it came out, not sure on the name of the EP but the track I like the most is the one listed above. Straightforward for a Jamal Moss track but I absolutely love this, new wavey almost Durany synths and simple beat but it just works. Hypnotic like. Claro Intellecto - Patience - Modern Life Another winner from Modern Life (after that last Andy Stott, another deep techno 12 you need!). Quality deep spacy techno and rumoured to be limited (though aren't all vinyl releases these days?). Get on it. 4 Colors ep - Deeply Rooted House More Kerri Chandler and french chums. Solid deep house (verging on broken but not too sophisto) and the KC track (another mix of 'Back to the Raw' without the 'back to the old school' vox) is super stripped, be nice to hear this on a system. Eddie Flashin Fowlkes - Feel So/Island - City Boy Wanted that Paster (sic) 12 as well as this but didn't manage it (mix up in shop). 'Feel So' is a great deep house track. 'Island' a break based track. I find people either like EFF or not. I like. Duplex - POM - Heinrik Mueller mixes Two superdark mixed from HM on here. The inner track works for me. Wasn't Shake meant to have a mix on this 12 too? Fatima Yamaha - D1 Solid electro from the Seymour Bits geezer. Out sliding UR I think on a couple of these tracks. POD - Vanguard ep - Rush Hour Remastered by Dexter and sounding lovely. A perfect example of why you shouldn't buy bootlegs and get the real deal instead. Also if you're a Piccadilly records customer try and get the year end chart booklet thingy, makes some interesting reading (I'm sure if you bang in an order they'll throw one in). The assertion that New Religion has taken over from Peacefrog as UK's best techno label I find interesting :).

RE: (313) UK: Falling Up - C2 mix
Relax people. I talked to Jean-Paul at Vinyl Junkies (sole UK licensees, I *think*) a few weeks ago. He was so nonchalant that he didn't even insist I come back in on Friday (as usual!) to get a copy. He said whilst they want to control supply (meaning 'keep it low' I think) he said they were planning enough 'runs' over the coming months to make sure anyone who wants a copy will get one, eventually. Also, he said they'd do some selective 'sub-licensing' out of the distribution with a few other outlets/shops etc. He did mention Third Ear but they're not the only one he had in mind, I'm sure. Dan Bean might know a bit more... Ken -Original Message- From: fab. Re: (313) my morning mischief
Interesting. I was in Seattle a few weeks ago and went to see Larry Heard. Hardly anyone was dancing then too (compared to how it would be in the UKI mean it was Larry Heard!). robin... Yeah, I always thought dance music was for dancing to! :) A friend of mine who DJed a few times in the states but is based in the UK told me how when he played a few places in the states nobody would dance. They all liked the music, clapped at the end or whatever, but kept perfectly still despite the dance music he was playing. With techno/electro/house I usually think it's the DJs job to get people to dance. Must be a states thing, check out Cylob's "rave photo" page, he also talks about how nobody in the US dances at gig: http://www.cylob.com/rave_photos/ravephotos.html

There will always be the stander-arounders, but since it's DANCE music, you should at least TRY from time to time. I'm 48, fat, and I dance, and I look like a twat doing it. So the fit young ones have no excuse. In some respects you're not actually LISTENING until your body is moving. A party with a bunch of anoraks standing around is a party with no vibe.
