I listened to the samples and can't say I was thrilled. It had a different feel to it, and I may just appreciate it through a pair of head phones or on a loud stereo system. I did also listen to the samples for the Todd Sines and Rick Wade records on Yore, and found them to be quite delightful and added them to my want list. jeff --- Odeluga, Ken [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Woop. Well, this is the real 'minimal' Jeff. It's not for everyone, although it's not the worst excesses of The Berliner school (not to say that that hasn't got some amazing moments - it has plenty, it's just that you can over do anything.) A lot of the time you either get it or you don't. Now I'd better stop defending as I haven't even heard it yet! ... For those who totally don't know and might like to find out a little, go here http://www.diggarama.com/ It's a Croation netlabel. His free release [dig014] is still there. (313) Chymera Wish EP
Brendan doesn't self-promote on this list, so I will do it for him. He has a new EP on NRK that I think is pretty awesome: http://www.nrkrecords.co.uk/recordstore/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=466 Lush stuff. Obviously influenced by the more lyrical moments of Octave One and UR. His music lives in a weird place with respect to most techno -- the immediately accessible harmonic progressions he uses get his tracks into the boxes of some Progressive DJs, but to my ears at least, he has the taste and instincts to pull back from the brink of being cheesy. In other words, his stuff makes me feel good without feeling dirty afterwards.
Re: (313) San Francisco this weekend
Amoeba of course! It's not really a dance vinly store, but it's so huge that there's often more dance vinyl there than there is at a real dance music store. If you put in the time to comb through the racks there's always some obscure gem to be had. If you happen to get over to Berkeley the Amoeba there has different stock. I found way more great dub vinyl in Berkeley than in the SF store. I'm not really up on the rest of the SF scene, but every trip to SF should include a trip to Amoeba. Re: (313) Re : Terence Dixon - Train Of Thought Ep
for some reason my reply about the rush hour record did not come through. out October 25th to celebrate Rush Hour's 10th Anniversary Population One - Rush Hour 12 no. 1 = original, dj rolando remix 12 no. 2= aardvarck remix, convextion remix they announced it yesterday and released the aardvarck and rolando mixes into their digital record pool. apparently terence's track (released on utensil in 1995) was the inspiration for RH's name. terence's original reminds me of a detroit version of robert armani or something, it's a minimal banger that sounds like some sort of alarm thru a filter...and some toms here and there...it's more interesting than armani, sort of a touch of rob hood or something, very subtle...i'd never heard it before, i never heard much utensil stuff period.. the aardvarck mix is his trademark blend of broken beat, house and techno, with pitched samples of pads and off-beat claps..it's really pretty fresh! very unique. i like it! the rolando mix is kinda underwater ur-lite style techno, lots of percussion, shuffling rhythms and filtered bits that sort of start talking, and a nice funk bassline. it's nothing wild or unexpected, not that exciting to me but i imagine lots of dj's will like it i have 3 mixes from gerard, and i don't think rh knows which one they are using yet...one puts terence's alarm sound thru the trademark convextion filter (makes it sound like an fm noise, echoes it out sometimes) and adds a very mr fingers style bassline, the toms from the original, some dubby twinkly noises and some fuzzy dark pads later on. it's a cross between e.r.p. and chicago. another is straight up e.r.p. style, super deep jammy jam electro with eerie pads and dubby sounds and a hot bassline which straddles kraftwerk and detroit. the last one is i think the only one he has submitted so far, is ambient for the first 5 minutes, than a very stripped down electro beat and a a few grungy bass notes come in...super deep, it's pretty much an ambient track. i think rh rejected this one. i really like all 3, they should've given him a whole 12 :P jt

well, this weekend is SF's 'love fest' which is a big trance and breaks festival for free in the civic center. No detroit that I can think of but my friends over at Kontrol and Auralism are doing a minimal float with 3 channels from Berlin. They are also doing an afterparty sat night with derek michael, and also drumcell and acid circus the mad techno peeps from LA (former 313ers). along with Agnes live and 3 channels live. Should be a fun party with good sound! check kontrolsf.com later for info. http://www2.sflovefest.org/ Then, if you want a real taste of SF decadence check out this after after party that goes all day at the infamous End Up. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/JonnyDG/TMA07_flyer.gif as for record shops, the ones still left worth checking are Tweekin at Haight and Steiner and Soundworks at Valencia and Duboce, other than forementioned amoeba. have fun! with Quoting Detroit Techno Militia [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Hello Everyone, Tom I are headed to SF this weekend (28th - 1st) and I was wondering if there are going to be any Detroit /Techno/Electro parties going on. In Leuven, there is: http://www.dermachine.be/ http://www.silo.be/ http://www.rumba.be/ Machine is really a pub-turned-into-a-very-small-club with a very varied musical programming: from Salsa over DnB/Jungle, hip Hop to Electro/Techno/... It's pretty non-mainstream with a strong focus on unknown talent. It's only been around for a couple of months too. It's right in the centre of Leuven. Silo has been around for years, although in different forms over the years (due to various owners I believe). This is more of a club (although, just like Machine, with an industrial look) with two rooms. I haven't been there for over a year though, so I don't know if things have changed recently. Rumba Co occasionally has techno/electro nights. Regards, Filip
