<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]><mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]><mailto:313@hyperreal.org> I had a copy in my pile @ RubADub last weekend - but somehow it managed not to make it home with me??? It was a blind buy but the impression I got from the guys was similar to Tom's comment of it being one of his strongest releases for a while. On the smallfish websites review they even ask if one of the tracks is a remix of hi tech jazz?? Anyway, I guess I will have to wait till the next time I am there to pick up a copy and find out for myself. Cheers BT Wow - were you listening to the same record!? There's far more to it than 'some chord stabs and 909' IMHO - four long and complex tracks (one of which is entirely beatless) with lots of structural development - somewhere between the 'Every Dog...' stuff, 'The Other Day' and 'Humana' in feel. I thought it was excellent, one of his strongest releases for a while - not really aimed at the dancefloor but a little more complex and abstact than the 'Every Dog...' series. Proper techno! Cheers BT Who knows that over the next few weeks he is spoilt for detroit artists in Glasgow (props to Mr T Churchill for getting Dan Bell to come to town!!). well. it's been an interesting morning to say the least. hopefully people are going to realize that the pressure is going to be on to out perform the past few festivals. there's alot i want to say to the new people, but that's for the arena of private conversation, and not a public forum. i hope it does well. i'm behind the new guys all the way in hopes that they will bring back not only the quality of the first festival, but the electricity each and every night held. and if i'm asked to be a part of the freakout setup team/artist co-ordination, then i'd be honored to do so. hell, i'd even DJ ;P... i hope derrick and whomever is in charge provides the festival with not only a good balance of new (*cough*craig gonzalez/matt dear*cough*) and old(*sneeze*shakeandclaudeyoung) detroit people, but artists also taking it to new territories. maybe bringing some really way out stuff like Taylor Deupree or Kim Cascone. some Jan Jelinek, Telefon Tel Aviv or Metro Area. there's plenty of exciting, quality new music out there that Detroit audiences have yet to be exposed to. i hope they have the wide angle lens on to include alot of different styles, rather than just banging it out. i hope the visuals are tastefully done and not over saturated with unecessary loops of inappropriate commercials during an artistic performance (in between performances is okay, if you really HAVE to.). i also hope the main thoroughfare doesn't become a noisef_k of bass from stacks in every tent. there HAS to be some sort of limitations on that. there are many many other things i'd like to see happen, but i'm happy with the outcome and i sincerely hope that they buckle up, shut up, put their heads down, work their tails off and present a festival unlike anything detroit's seen yet. and now back to metal box by Public Image rt _ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. Fwd: RE: (313) nightclubs - the good, the bad, the ugly
I agree with the Venue in Edinburgh - I have only been through a couple of times for Pure when it used to be there. I liked the way they opened the door at the top of the stairs to let some air in but didnt let you hang about there for obvious reasons. Also, when Pure used to do their extravaganzas in the Barrowland in Glasgow (particularly the new years nights). I remember one night, I think it was the last one they did and there were about 100 people in a place with about 3000 capacity and Carl Craig was playing a live set??? But my favourite has to be Club 69 in Paisley - the Rub-A-Dub crew always put on a good night, good people, good atmosphere and no hassle. Although it sometimes gets a wee bit hit (like the last UR night there) And the Sub Club in Glasgow - which should be reopening in the next month or so after burning down 3 years ago. I cant wait to see what its like. Hope they havnt ruined it. Cheers BT would that be defined as a McClub then ? When you requested a tune did the DJ ask if you wanted fries with it ? hehe sorry the concept of a McD's turned club is just too funny :] back on topic err fave clubs: The Venue in Edinburgh - its dark, its sweaty, the bogs are useless, the sound systenm is some random stacks of speakers but what more could you ask of a techno club :) somehow the fact that its the only place in edinburgh to see the likes of jeff mills, dave clarke, dj funk, derrick may, mark farina etc means that its pretty rocking and somehow the mankiness kind of suits the tunes! Fwd: [313] mail order question
Neil, I ordered from Submerge recently and it took about 3 weeks for the package to arrive in Scotland. I would guess it just depends how many orders they are getting and what other projects they are working on. I recon with the new website and the amount of labels that they have added that they are focusing on this just now so I would say give them a try. I also got a bunch of flyers etc - including an invite to The 10th Birthday party of Metroplex (I think its a bit late but its a nice thing to have ;-) Cheers BT hi have any europe peoples had any experience ordering from submerge? theres a few things i want to get and im just wondering if its worth just trying to track them down from various places here in the uk or if submerge are reasonably fast at filling orders? cheers neil aka mr impatient - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Also worth a mention is the mix CD by DJ Dex available on the submerge site - I seem to have had that and the DJ Genesis one (also from submerge site) on rotation in my car for the past few weeks now. Submerge relaunches its Depth Charge series with its 5th installment. Deep Electronic Music best describes the sounds brought together on this compilation. It ranges from the electronic soul of Red Planet to the techno funk of 'Transition' and right through the underwater electro of Drexciya. Depth Charge 5 was mixed and compiled by Submerge's new resident DJ Dex. Features new and classic tracks never before available on CD. Havnt heard it yet but its on Clone and here is what Bi-wire have to say about it: Drexciya - Grava 4 Having bought and registered their own Star (check coordinates ra18h35m37.73 d3'22'31.12 if you have some time), the obvious move was to make a concept album on the subject, in finest alien electroid fashion. Deep underwater ambience, pulsing cinemascopics rendered via all manner of progressions. Drexciya fly with pure, crisp, spacious, electroid crunches that, in truth, only they produce with this much understanding of the music, its origins and its effect! 9 tracks in all. Sean, That's T in The Park Weekend up here, and since Slam have their own tent for it there is usually a bundle of big names playing - I know Orbital live, Green Velvet live, Ritchie Hawtin, Andrew Wetherall, Slam you can get full details at slamevents.com or tinthepark.com If a muddy field is not your thing (I know its summer but this is Scotland we are talking about and the chances are it will rain) then there are quite often decent events at Alaska (where Soma run most of the nights) they seem to have afterparties there where past performers have included Rolando and Sneak. Apart from that I dont know of anything at the moment. Hope this helps BT Hi, anyone know of anything interesting happening in Glasgow between the 10th and 13th of July? I know that when UR came up to Paisley for Rub-A-Dub's night last January he was with the UR crew. And when Mike Banks spoke to the crowd he spoke highly of Ranx and the Rub-A-Dub boys for making their trip over for the 2 gigs possible. Cheers BT As folk have said, he was the promoter of that NYE party. Unlike most people I had a really good night, but I live nearby and so saw in the bells at home and turned up late - thus missing the crush. Apart from that, Ranx by all accounts, is quite infamous for pulling off amazing parties. I've heard all kinds of wild tales about even wilder parties in North London in the very early 90s with ridiculous line ups, which were usually Detroit related. Unfortunately he seems to have quite an arrogant style when composing emails and posters (Drexciya live anyone?) which undermines this legendary reputation :) He was also, I think, at least partly behind bringing KDJ to Plastic People Christmas just gone and also their NYE party. Jonny. hi folks. can any list members provide me with info about this individual. i noticed the name listed in compilation credits on the deepest shade of techno. is RANX X313 a producer, critic, trainspotter, fan, or a lone voice crying in the woods? just curious. regards, lrh - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Now Colin Dale's gone to Groovetech, all underground techno on Kiss must be filtered through Mr C on Saturday ... if it can get past the tech-house that is. Does anyone's local station have anything vaguely techy on, regularly? Fwd: Re: [313] may's djing (was Lost - further details)
I saw him for the first time about 8 or 9 years ago in the Sub Club also - one of the best sets I have had the pleasure of witnessing. Since then I have seen him about 10 times and tend to agree with Jason on this one - I saw him 3 times in a 2 week period once (Pure, Sub Club then Space in Ibiza) and he played the same set all 3 times - the third time one of my mates left during his second mix saying I'm not listening to this again and went out to hear whoever was playing in the courtyard. He can be absolutely mindblowingly good but it seems to depend what sort of mood he is in. Cheers BT Strange as it may seem, the numbers of people who can actually remember him playing his own classic stuff - like Icon, are few and far between ... although Strings of Life, I've heard even Surgeon play! I think it's fair to say (but it remains of course - imho) that he's barely EVER played a set really PEPPERED with his own classic cuts ... I don't know why ... It's almost like he doens't feel they fit into dancefloor techno, which is a very weird thing to see myself write. I first saw him only about 6 or 7 years ago in the Sub Club in Glasgow despite having followed his work slavishly since 1987- he was the first DJ who literally reduced me to tears (sob, sob!) and I've seen him about 10 times since then- he has been shit- and I mean shit- about 6 times- very good twice and amazing twice. When he is shit he just plays very middle of the road tribal techno- so far removed from the complex music he used to make- with no dynamics or emotion- as if he feels the audience either wouldn't understand or don't deserve to hear the real good stuff- he is a very frustrating character but then that's life! Re: Re: [313] may's djing (was Lost - further details)
men and women can sometimes be mindblowingly good... and sometimes mindblowingly bad. depending on moods n grooves... Thats what I said - it depends what mood he is in. that's etched as part of our psyche go beyond the dance and experience the various salsas of life I try my best - perhaps that why I went to see him for the third time in 2 weeks even though the previous 2 sets were the same... if everyone was the same all the time they would be boring Back to my point on hearing the same set 3 times - if you have the ability, musical ear, ability to understand the crowd that Derick has then why did he tour with one bag of records and play the same set. He gets paid lots of cash to play the least he could do is true to the people who pay their cash to hear him and let the set take shape with the night instead of coming in with preprogrammed ideas of exactly what he will do no matter what. if you got everything you wanted you would be bored Luckily I dont so my life is one big magical mystery tour :-) Cheers BT - Original Message - From: - BT - [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Wednesday, February 27, 2002 2:47 AM Subject: Fwd: Re: [313] may's djing (was Lost - further details) I saw him for the first time about 8 or 9 years ago in the Sub Club also - one of the best sets I have had the pleasure of witnessing. Re: [313] special on-line shops survey.
I also buy online quite regularly, and agree with your comments on smallfish. I buy from Groovetech regularly and havnt had any problems with them - however I do buy CD's which could explain it. Another online retailer I use regularly is www.bi-wire.co.uk and also www.recordtime.com both of which have great service in my experiences. Cheers BT i don`t know u guys but where i live there`s is not even one decent shop to records where i can normal reocrds. so the only thing left for me is to order stuff online. since i am oredring long time now and regulary here`s my 2 cents about it. and i would like to hear u folks too. www.turntablelab.com - simpley the best for buying hip-hop very cheep with equiptment. www.blackmarket.at - great selection of downtempo\nu-jazz stuff. very very slow service, but the guy who run the mail order can find u records that r truely defunket. www.sonicgroove.com - very bad service. very bad site. www.kompakt-net.de - very good shop for techno and house, very good personal service. www.smallfish.co.uk - great shop, very good service, a bit costy but great selection o`records. www.groovetech.com- from some reason we allways have trouble with them, broken records, and shite. www.juno.co.uk - solid shop. www.recordshop.co.uk - very bad shop (they have all the goya catalog) bad service just bad. www.hardwax.com - best for techno - but only if u carry visa. yair - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: [313] list party/gathering in the UK
I would be up for it!! BT I am in! anyone else??? -Original Message- From: rob webb [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 05 February 2002 13:12 To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: [313] list party/gathering in the UK dear all, the recent about the members thread, along with the comments about the state of the UK techno clubs made me think that perhaps it might be cool if we held a 313 gathering/party (in the UK, London perhaps?) sometime this year. all list members would be welcome of course, tho i realise the idea's most likely to appeal to those of us who are based in the UK and Europe. i'm figuring we'd need an ok-sized venue, a bar or small club, with djing and live-sets from list members - we seem to have plenty of djs and producers on here! the Lowlands list held something similar back in October 2000 - some pictures here: http://technotourist.org/modules.php?set_albumName=album04op=modloadname=G alleryfile=indexinclude=view_album.php. any thoughts? anyone out there? am i having a 313 gathering on my own, down the pub, with a pint of guinness and a packet of pork scratchings, and Relics on my walkman? rob _ Join the world's largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
