Brendan Gregoriy {Chymera} Top 10 - Jan 2004

Lush strings and vocals on this excellent EP straight
out of Detroit.

Driving peaktime techno with the trademark Kompakt

Swirling analog basslined electro with an infectious
groove. Nice

6 tracks ranging from electro to hip hop to
electronica. Promising start for this label.

{Sprungcartellwachs}
Razor sharp percussive hits and a crisp electro beat
combined with motorcity strings.

Tough, noodly and distinct bassline on the A-side

9. Danza Blanca - White {Danza Electronica}
Housey Spanish guitar madness from Tony Rios.

(313) New records (for me)

2003-09-19 Thread Bren G
I'm a bit behind on discussions of new music on this list because it
usually take that bit longer to get to us here in Ireland. What do people
think of the Red planet- Pipecarrier EP, (think that's what its called
anyway, i'm not the best with names)

I'm really liking side A of this... lovely, almost 70's sounding strings
and melody. Something really quirky about it.

Got Aguila as well last week, and I think the Fix mix is great, but I
reckon I will mix out shortly after the beat comes in.

Also picked up the agitator, and I think its excellent as well.

marky - lk use the same samples? Wich song do they sample? Or did Dwele
just sample Dj Marky?

I find the new Dwele album a bit dissapointing though.

Re: (313) WE WANT LYRICS! - techno tracks?

2003-04-30 Thread Bren
Slam have used Dot allison on a couple of things. And also they have done
a remix of her track We are science. She's a very good vocalist in an
ethereal sort of way. Can't make out the lyrics though!

Regards,
Bren.

interesting that I too have been thinking about lyrics in techno tracks
 and
how it's hard to find new stuff with decent (or any lyrics) - wasn't there
a new Funk D'Void or Slam track that featured a female singer? I recall an
recent interview where - I think it was Slam - was talking about their use
of lyrics and how techno producers shun lyrics. I'm trying to find
 something on it right now...

I know there are tracks by Octave One and the KSR release that has lyrics
or some singing on it - but i haven't seen anything quite like the lyrical
content of, say, an Inner City track for a long time - or maybe at this
time I just can't recall hearing any new techno like that.
please inform me otherwise (looking for more peak hour type stuff or good
 lead ups to)

I've been turning to Chicago house and older house/disco for lyrics but
would love to hear some new stuff with a definite techno element

 MEK

by the way that Angola 12 is killer - kept playing it over and over last
night - both sides. probably one of the best new records I've bought
 recently

Re: (313) This Friday - iPod event at all Apple stores

2003-04-30 Thread Bren
I know several people who mix their own productions from between two
laptops/computers, simply connecting them up through a standard Dj mixer,
synching the BPM in their production program, and literally pressing start
on the qued track exactly on time, then mixing as normal. I've done it
myself too. Takes a bit of getting used to , but it very workable.

Regards,
bren.

I'm not sure if this is what they're talking about (but I imagine it is
 with
richie's involvement), but you can use an iPod as an external drive with
Traktor, which has now merged with Final Scratch. The upshot of all this
 is
that if you're going to play a show where they've got a Traktor FS set-up,
alls you need to carry with you is your iPod.

BUT LETS PLEASE NOT GET INTO ANOTHER DEBATE ABOUT WHETHER COMPUTER-BASED
MIXING IS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE PLEASE. ;)

oh, and yes please on the forthcoming plastikman release.

The A side is mish-mashed with INXS' very first track (the name escapes

side of this record grabbed a sample from King Britt's remix of Josh One

but he was referring to the normal frequenters of Fabric (the majority
anyway), not to devotees of Octave one or people who are aware of more of
their backcatalogue than just blackwater; the relative minority of us in
that crowd cheering at the opening bars of earlier classics

It has to be said that the typical Fabric-goer will not tend to be as
knowledgeable about Octave One as say, the typical reader of this page.
Blackwater is likely to be the sum total of their knowledge, no
disrespect intended. However, at the end of the Burdens’ hour-plus long
set, those who don’t know will have learned that the relative minority of
us in that crowd cheering at the opening bars of earlier classics means
that the Octave One story doesn’t begin with Blackwater. But also after
tonight, we can all be assured it doesn’t end there either.

Re: (313) [313] perhaps OT... track notation.

2003-03-20 Thread Bren
In soundforge you can divide up the large wav. file. I often do this for
my mixes. It is time consuming though. Its best to start from the end of
the file as it works faster. Find the very start of the last tune (or
wherever you want to index it) then highlight it from that point to the
end of the file. Then cut and paste to a new window. Keep doing this until
the entire mix is chopped up into separate windows. Then burn onto the CD
in the proper order... voila.

hi folks. i apologize, in advance, for what may be considered by most
 an
off topic post. however, as most members have discovered... you can get
 a
great deal of answers to questions found outside the realm of the usual
[313] discussions. here goes... i like to make mixes for listening in my
car. i use two turntables and a mixing board. the end result is a large
..wav file that i can then burn to a CD. my question is this; is there a
way, through some sound editing app such as sound forge6.0, to mark the
 .wav
file w/ track time information? i enjoy the experience of listening to a
music mix as a whole, but sometimes it's nice to skip ahead to a
 particular
tune. i guess i desire the same setup as you would find in a mix CD
 bought
 from a store.

if anyone has any instructions, feel free to answer me off-list. if you
wish to share your knowledge w/ the rest of the list all the better.
 thanks
 in advance.

 peace,
 lrh

RE: (313) Top tunes 2002

2003-01-06 Thread Bren

Welcome Bren to the list :)

thanking u

nice selection there, 2,4,5 and 15 would be on my list ( sorry but I just
haven't had time to do one, so here's 5 off the top of my head ones.

1. The Advent - Recreactions - Steve Rachmand Remix
2. Marco Carola - Question 9
3. Paul Mac - Primate 69 - Ben Sims Remix (same old Sims but it just makes
me smile and feel like I'm in Spain, a the sun..)
4. Grain ( aka Arthur smith) no title just FAT CAT 041

5. Danilo Vigorito - Southsoul Appendix D ..

Only just bought this last one about 2 weeks ago and haven't had time to
listen to it yet properly yet, but it is shaping up to be a good one alright

I am though a little confused about 10. I just don't think it was never
as
good as the Intec 12 he did, Where's the Sun or something like that. Its
weird but everyone raved about this Bryan Zentz one and I really could
not
get it, maybe me..

Actually haven't heard that tune that you're on about, to be honest, I don't
buy half as many tunes as I should..I force myself to keep away from the
record shop as much as I can, so a few biggies did go over my head this
year. Only heard them afterwards and then kicked myself that I missed them

But nice slection anyhow and i hope the 313 list serves you well.

thanking you again..

I hope you don't mind me saying but I just could not help expressing my
view
:)

oh not at all. I am equally bemused and bewildered with some people's inclusions
in their own otherwise interesting tracklists or top tens.

Regards,
Bren.
