2002-04-29 Thread Frank Zappa
One of detroit's finest in house music graced our
presence here in portland oregonnorm talley came
and gave us some detroit deepnessit was a good
show (although the turntables had problems with
skipping) i really enjoy norm talley he was one of my
favorite dj's that i saw on the c-pop stage last year
at the DEMF. he handed out LOTS of cd's to
everyone...i got 2 they are very very good...i hope he
is playing somewhere this year around the DEMF...does

RE: [313] Shari Vari Release Schedule

2002-01-11 Thread Frank Zappa
well for the new years weekend we (Renegade Rhythms)
brought out Mike Grant and Scan 7 they played on
the 29th and the 31stthe first gig was in a small
club with about 150-200 people me and one of our other
dj's warmed the party up , mike grant played like an
hour of mellower stuff then lou played live for a
little over an hour .. after that mike grant finished
it up with a nice techno set.the gig on the 31st
was a private invite only house party which took place
in a basement.my brother opened it up with some
nice techno then lou played for like 30-40 minutes
he was having some technical problems , i think it
was his midi cablesthen mike grant finished up
with a AMAZING 5 1/2 hour set starting with some
harder techno, ending with DEEP grooves . i really
was amazed with lou he was non stop assault when i saw
him in detroit he played with like 5 guys , it was
just him this time DIRTY ASS RAW DETROIT
TECHNO...i loved it. but i must say that mike grants 5
1/2 hour set was just AMAZINGit just kept going
and going , never losing his groove. i am not lying 5
1/2 hours and not a dull moment , i just love his
style. it was one of the best new years in awhile for
me .. here in portland we like DETROIT HISTORY
OVER DETROIT HYPE and we got it.as always much
love for the D

Brian is one of my favorites producers. I have fond memories of him
bringing his Casio SK1 to high school and fooling around with it. Who
would
of thought that he would be making a career out of it.

As good as Brian is, unfortunately he will always be overshadowed by
the
bigger acts in Chicago such as Roy Davis, Glenn Underground, Boo
Williams,
Paul Johnson or Cajmere. As long as he is in Chicago he always be
seen as
their protege instead of a peer.

What Brian needs to do is move to the west coast like so many other
Chicago
artists (Mark Farina, Miles Maeda, Hyperactive, Gemini, Halo, Colette
and
Angel Alanis) in order to get the respect that he truly deserves.

Actually, although I play the DJ Pierre Wild Pitch remix of Late Night,
it doesn't seem as wild-pitchy to me as a lot of the others; the
rythmic bed is a lot stiffer sounding than the more flowing examples
are. On the other hand, if DJ Pierre calls it wild pitch, then there
you go.

yea i agree ... that maybe a good call.. check closely ...there

The thing I don't like about this record is that it's pressed at very
low volumes, practically the only one I need to push all the way to 10
on my Rane when the average steady-in-the-red setting is 7 (those of
you who know Ranes can see what I'm saying, this record lacks *punch*!).
I've tried a couple different copies so it's not just my particular one.

I don't know if this is a Pow Wow characteristic or just a bum pressing.

  Rolando should play
 wherever he feels
it will help get good music out to interested ears,
 make some money
 and promote his career.

i pretty much agree with you ... when we brought the
UR electric entourage to Portland OR not many people
knew who Rolando was lots of people just thought
he was the best they ever saw at that time i mean
most people knew who UR was but did not even know much
about Rolando's involvment with the UR crew. of course
it really don't matter WHO HE IS or who he's DOWN
with cause it's all about the music but , i can say
that most people there LOVED rolando's set and fliped
out and will come to see him next time we bring him,
which brings it all back to the same old thing,
EDUCATION

but it does suck real badly when our own country
cannot enjoy what Rolando , UR , Detroit, Chicago,
..ect has to offer cause they would rather watch
the new prodigy video..talk about moby , look at
pictures of brittney spears and go to Mega TRANCE
fest's... maybe thing's will change in the future and
everybody will listen to Rolando , jeff mills ,
richie and watch them on MTV, or maybe they will stay
the same , alot of VERY TALENTED techno and house
producers who have to go out side the US to be truly
appriciated. either way I win cause i listen AND
dance to the music and try not to be concerned with
all the other shat.

and your right most people out here on the west coast
don't know about Rolando , UR , ect but they are
never going to learn if people don't support
Dj's/producers like UR , Rolando , the Burden Bros
when they come around. Before the jaguar situation we
brought the electric entourage tour (granted it is
Portland , OR) there were MAYBE 350 people . which
was great from my point of view (i love small
underground parties) but it did not give Rolando ,
Twonz , octave one , random noise generation,
wildplanet the exposure they deserve it's a tricky
situation all i know is i have known about Detroit
and Chicago music since 1992 and me and my crew are
trying our best to get a nice appriciative scene here
in Portland Oregon by supporting the best Underground
Dj's/producers in america... but it's a hard thing to
do when most are worried about the worlds #1 dj, and
what club carl cox played in yesterday.. i think
people have short attention spans and want instant
gratificationbeing as good as UR , Murat ,
Ben Sims, dj TRAXX , Richie does'nt happen over
night at last nights rave party. it takes many
years..

Burden Bros. Inquiry

2000-07-19 Thread Frank Zappa
Hell Ya i will be looking forward to seeing this
story lenny and lawrence burden are 2 of the
nicest guys i have met in my 8 years as a
dj/promoter...
me and my crew which consists of 8-10 djs
were lucky enough to get in contact with UR and 430
west and do the electric entourage tour in Portland
Oregon. ever since i first heard my
first 430 west record i knew these guys would change
me the day i saw them perform live/dj we had
random noise
   generation, lawrence djing, wildplanet live
, the techno terrorist TWONZ djing, and the punishing
sounds of Rolando aka Astech Mystic. the burden
bros..mad mike .. and all the rest of the
submerge crew represent THE UNDERGROUND to me and are
doing it right if you want to talk to me or
some others in my crew about our experience
with the burden bros
you should e-mail us at our web site..
www.RENEGADERHYTHMS.com we have been lucky enough
to have them out here twice and i could go on
forever about their influence on me and my
crew and the West Coast I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD
THINGS ABOUT THEM.. they definetly
changed the way i Hear Techno and all i can
say even though i have not met all of them is a
BIG thank you to.TAMARAMAD

MIKE...LENNY...LAWRENCE...SIMON...ROLANDO... OUR BOY
TWONZ...AND ALL OF THE REST OF SUBMERGE CREWI LOOK
