Re: [313] about moby and his corporate money he receives...
Peace Be unto U Funny, Kent I have been on the list long enough to know when you didnt even use the word hater, but now your own the bandwagon using it as though your all in..come on Chap give it a rest, pretty please with sugar and cherry on top! I do agree with one thing you said, how the heck could a Moby even be discussed. Thus I wont! I will however deal with one issue. Who the hell said that money helps, hunh, who said it? Unbelievable! Dont any of you know that we been doing this sh*t for years without money! If we compiled all the brothas together that are engineers, general technicians, lighting technicians, a builder to build the stages(who takes scraps from the lumber yard), rented some microphones and other digital equipment, planners and organizers, cats in production, promotions etc..., coupled with all the other trimmings I'd imagine that it could be pulled off. But who has the courage to try it? Point: U dont need, necessarily, corporate sponsors for this type of thing. These brothas and others around the country and globe have been doing this stuff for years...with just what they have, and no one is mad on this side about it. Basically, we'd hope U'd get the message to keep churging ahead with what you got, forging networks of people with LIKEMIND, and thats how it could be even bigger and better without the corporations cash and still retain its integrity. QUESTION: Do any of you believe in coming together, and that something positive, organized, and constructive can result from such a unity? DONT ANSWER, its rhetorical. I would guess that if you did believe it, then your post, as well as your treatment of people outside the world of 313 would reflect such a belief. I find all this talk pro and con moby talk absurd. I've been around long enough to remember when he was a guy with a few records out who worked @ instinct, and used to exchange e-mail with him. He always seemed like a nice, sincere guy, and I have reason to think he's change that much. Everything he's doing now is more a function of being caught up in a massive updraft of cash, and none of y'all can claim you'd be doing it any differently, or any better. Artistically I'm not a fan, though the track with gwen stefani doesn't suck as bad as the other shit on the radio that my kid make me listen to. Anyone who makes it on pop radio without making me cringe can't be all bad. The thing I wonder is why on 313 people feel like it's worth their time and energy to be hating on Moby? He's mostly harmless. Get over it. Basically I don't like people hating on anyone -- the thing about haters is the more they hate, the less they actually know. And lest this be misinterpreted -- I'm not talking about Diane or any of the other heads who got sucked into the convo -- haters, you know who I'm talking about. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]br clear=allhrGet your FREE download of MSN Explorer at a href=http://explorer.msn.com;http://explorer.msn.com/abr/p
Re: [313] faceless techno b******s
I'll open the can of worms! Perhaps, and just perhaps, some people realize that there is/has been a graphic revolution especially in America. Many people now desire a picture, photograph, music video etcto associate with an artist. Perhaps, and I make direct reference to Mr. Banks, he saying---who gives a flyin fluck what the h*ll I look like, if the music is tight then ___(fill in the blank). Ultimately, it all points, and YES this is just my .005 cents worth of an opinion, back to the fact that many of us are just about the image. And does anyone have any points to make on the effect of such a policy? It causes a subtle change in the way people are acustomed to things, it goes against the grains of this graphic revolution, it serves as a basis for change. The mask issue deserves no comment. End of Transmission - Original Message - From: Tom Robbins Sent: Wednesday, May 02, 2001 6:00 AM To: 313 mailing list Subject: [313] faceless techno b**s So recently I was mulling over the way UR and Maurizio/Basic Channel refuse to be photographed and rarely ever give interviews, and how this facelessness projects to music consumers and how it adds to the general air of mystique surrounding the artist. Can anyone point to other bands or musicians who have employed this tactic, whether they be from the realms of techno and/or dance music or any other genres? And does anyone have any points to make on the effect of such a policy? As a starter for ten, did you know that David Soul (in his pre-Starsky Hutch days) used to eke out a living as a singer songwriter called The Masked Man? He would take to the stage in a mask and cloak because he said he wanted people to concentrate on the music, although he admits he soon became better-known for the gimmick rather than his songs. - Tom - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]br clear=allhrGet your FREE download of MSN Explorer at a href=http://explorer.msn.com;http://explorer.msn.com/abr/p

CiM--Warm Data The Emoticon Sampler 01-02
I am a little late on this stuff I know, I know. But I just got these two gems the other day. CiM continues to bust me up with those melodic vibrations he's combining! The Emoticon Sampler features CiM, Future Beat Alliance, some chap named Mark Mclaren who's made this explosive dance track called twang, not to mention(but I gotta) this tune entitled outnumbered. Metamatics has a nice tune on it called Hymn bream(thats what my playlist says). Quick question...
Peace. Many who know me, are still baffled as to why I dont have a darn T-Table. Some have told me that 80% of the best techno and house/tech-house comes out on vinyl only. Just as others are bewildered by me not having a t-table, so too am I with EVERYONE having onethus my question is this... How many people, in anyones estimation, spin for a club, or DJ at private gigs, etc. As oppossed to those who just buy vinyl just to listen to the 80%-good stuff on vinyl? Thanks for your responsesI have asked nearly everyone under the Sun this question..M, C-note, Marsel, even that mean-ole nasty Tom freak'n Churchill--who has to be the most underrated artist around( I really cant talk enough about that damn cat). If your in the line of music---I can understand it, and I guess if you say 95% of the music---I can now understand it, but maybe I just fit the stereotype of being lazy--I just like the Program option, the repeat option, clarity, etc 95%.grrr, [EMAIL PROTECTED] I am gonna get one! Well, I'm not a DJ and have no aspirations of becoming one but I have a turntable and only buy vinyl. I used to get by just buying CDs but as my tastes developed and my appetite for new, deep music increased I knew it couldn't be satisfied without a turntable. Buying vinyl does open up a whole new world, it just depends on whether you want/need to go there or not. I wouldn't get too worried about it, if you can't see the need to get a turntable then you probably don't have to, as long as you're enjoying your music. Maybe these people who are baffled and bewildered by you need to get a life of their own. Jayson is 100% right on. I started out DJing with CDs b/c I started DJing on the radio and I couldn't find the music I liked on vinyl in Iowa. About 2 years after I started my radio show (with assorted vinyl purchases along the way) I opted to buy my first 1200 to compliment my Denon 2x CD players. I think I lasted about three months before I bought the 2nd 1200, and this was in '94 when CD compilations were at their most revelatory for new initiates. Suffice it to say, I am now a vinyl devotee, and have been for many years. i would never have delved as deep into house or techno w/o vinyl purchses. It is simply impossible to have your finger on the pulse without a turntable right now, although the internet may change this in the next few years. Besides all of that, vinyl sounds 1000x better than CD once you acquire the taste for it. For instance, I bought Pole 1 + 2 on vinyl despite extra cost even though I rarely spin it, simply because I wanted to listen to it on vinyl when I'm in the mood. Vinyl is the template of the Gods.
