OT: Disco (not Disco) sampler

2000-12-16 Thread _Caltrop _

I was wondering if the disco (not disco) sampler
(compiled by Joey Negro) is any good. This sampler features
dance tracks from the early 80s. (Thinking of Larry Levan,
Liquid Liquid, E.S.G. etc...). I haven't heard it yet, but it looks
very promising.

Thanks

EP's he put out on PR and Template..I heard he is doing his own thing out
in

California..any new EP's worth checking out?! I really dug Tide of

What's up with this list?

A new set of Kraftwerk remixes by UR gets released and no-one mentions it
(apologies if it has been mentioned, but I'm on the digest version)...

Stop the circular arguments about spam and talk about this (from Juno this
week)...

KRAFTWERK: Expo Remix (EMI Germany) double 12: Expo Remix (DJ Rolando
remix, Underground Resistance remix, UR Thought 3, UR Infiltrated
mixes,

Francois K/Rob Rives mix, Orbital mix) (8896126)

Anyone bought it yet? I heard one of the UR mixes at the weekend and I
though it was pretty cool. Any more thoughts?

Cheers,

Re: [313] Gigolo: Munich To Detroit (SIDs)

2000-10-31 Thread _Caltrop _

Ahem...uh,
the right place to mention the upcoming release on mooner's new label
erkrankung durch musique, that is a remix compilation of unknown SID songs
called SID musique. Ripped or not, he is trying to bring back

the nerdy SIDs to disko. =)

And it even gets tastier: the melody is from 1984.
The whole track is ripped from an old Commodore 64 game-tune from the
game

 Lazy Jones.

Hey, what song is it in the game? I picked up the SID file from
http://www.c64gg.com/l3.html but I can't seem to find a tune from the
game that sounds like Zombie Nation.

I do recognize song 7 in the SID as being Blondie(?) though...

Ahh, the old C64 SID sound is bringing me too much nostalgia (lo-hi
lo-hi lo-hi lo-hi...).

You can find Sähkö's discography from

compilation which might be to your intest
is Mika Vainio's 'Tulkinta' (Interpretation)

are so far no other Sähkö compilations, which is

some of Kevin Saunderson's releases.
Especially tracks like *Smooth Groove-Tronik House*, e-dancer-banjo (funk
d'void remix)* or *Jark Prongo- Spadet* caught my attention, even if the
latter one is not from Kevin. It's just the style I really love.
But, alas, besides KMS-releases and some records bought by coincidence I do
not know, where to look for that special bassy groove.

Can anybody help me, and drop some names and / or tracks which are worth to
be listened to???

I love that track. Some german project sampled it couple years ago, can't

That track has a distinct moaning-style of singing, kinda like the singer
rises his voice to falsetto at the end of the sentence. There was a track
on

FSOL's LP (Dead cities?) which had a vocalist doing similar stunts, only of
course, exaggerating it in a typical FSOL style (MUCHO echo!).

After having read all the stories about the DEMF, and listening to the
realaudio at groovetech for the last couple of days, I've decided to
definately make the trip from Utrecht to Detroit next year! So thanks to
everyone who made it possible for the people that didn't have the
chance/opportunity to go this year to still get a bit of the feeling that
they were there.
I've just taped Theo Parrish's set and Shake's set, and I was wondering if
anyone could tell me what track Shake is playing at exactly one hour into
his set? And (I'm almost too emberassed to ask, because I probably should
know what track it is?!) the third track he played after that. (times
up(?)

for Detroit...our lovely city).
Oh, and I'm kind of curious about the first two tracks he played
(especially

the second one).

There's a german (bootleg) electro comp. called Kranke musique ist schon
(limited to 500 copies), and there's a track on the second volume (nr.2),
from a group called NAD, and their track featured is Distant drums.
Anyone know the original release, label it was released, year or anything?
What group was/is it?

It's an amazing track, with a feel kinda VLADIMIR M on Eevo-lute, same kind
of spoken narration of tomorrow's armageddon, distant drums etc... Backed
with a funky 909-snare pattern, sweeping analogue pad and a monotonous
horn-stab that really puts the track in a classic Chicago-sounding league.
Though I don't think it's from Chicago.
I thought it (NAD) could be some industrial-project or something... Any
suggestions?
