(313) See ya
Never thought I'd say this, but I'm unsubscribing for a while. Seems like the signal-to-noise ratio on 313 has reached an all-time low. No offence to the small band of subscribers who do make friendly and informative posts - I'm just tired of deleting endless messages which consist of nothing but people bitching at each other, or inane one-line replies which quote 40 lines worth of previous messages. Those of you I speak to via private mail, keep in touch :) Cheers, Tom

Hi Lauren - I'm surprised you haven't had more of a response to this! I guess 313 is happier bitching over geographical issues than talking about music these days :/ Anyway, some of my personal techno faves of the past few months, off the top of my head, have been: Kenny Larkin's 'The Narcissist and Lucien N Luciano's 'Blind Behaviour', both on Peacefrog; all of Mathew Jonson's stuff on ItIsWhatItIs and Minus; the 3 Chairs LP; Jeff Mills' 'From The 21st' 12"s on Axis; the three 12"s on Soloaction out of Berlin, the Adam Johnson album on Merck... There's been plenty more great music coming out but there's a few for starters... Re: (313) Track ID
The original track is 'Chicago' by Roy Ayers, from his 1983 'Lots Of Love' LP. Global Communication sampled it for 'Chicago Chicago' on Universal Language. And Henrik Schwarz sampled it for the imaginatively-titled 'Chicago' on Mood Music... Re: (313) track ID
Sorry for the delayed reply on this one, just got back from a week away to find a 313 email mountain! It was me who originally sent the link to 313 - we recorded the set when Rob came and played for us at the Unit, and put the mix on the Traxx site at www.traxxevents.com/music. But we had to take it down because the link got crossposted to loads of other forums all over the web and the ensuing thousands of downloads rapidly blew our monthly bandwidth limit! If anyone still wants to download it I can provide a super-secret link to where the file now resides, but I'd rather do this over private mail for obvious reasons. Anyway, back to your original question, it's Mine To Give by Photek w/ Robert Owens, from his Solaris album on Virgin/Science. Also came out on 12" with some fairly wack commercial house remixes I believe... Talking of Virgin/Science, I picked up a copy of Stacey Pullen's album recently and can't believe I slept on it when it first came out, there are some ridiculously good tracks on there, a really unique kind of sci-fi broken beat/techno hybrid... (313) Quick Sonar report
Music highlights for me were: Jeff Mills on Saturday night - incredibly funky and intense, with several mindblowing moments, including a blistering 909 solo and a jaw-dropping piece of work using Sugarhill Gang's Rappers Delight on the new Pioneer DVD deck... Francois K on the Friday afternoon - from Burial Mix to Tres Demented to dub poetry to Stardancer to Instant House to Strings Of Life via loads of top-notch laptop, FX and EQ wizardry, in the sunshine with beer in hand... Soma party at La Terrazza on the Thursday night - not strictly part of Sonar but probably the best vibe of the whole last week, with what seemed like half of Glasgow in attendance. Truly stunning open-air venue on the hillside and loads of smiling people... Roots Manuva at the Sonar Pro party on the Thursday night - went here before the Soma party and was most impressed with Roots Manuva's live set. Great sound, tight band, top tunes... Madlib and co on the Saturday night - jazz drum solos aplenty from Madlib and Prefuse 73, some seriously phat beats from J-Rocc on the decks and some amusing rhyming from Prince Po... Honourable mention also to Matthew Dear's live set on the Friday... Didn't really see a huge amount of music, but the stuff we made an effort to check out was generally excellent. Had an absolutely brilliant time overall and I'm really glad I decided to go again... Cheers, Tom

The problem was mainly down to the sound engineer in the room - the same guy who ruined the sound when Francois K played at the Arches. The system itself was up to it, and it sounded fine when we soundchecked earlier in the evening, but the engineer in his infinite wisdom decided to keep messing around with the EQ and the levels over the course of the night, and it just seemed to get worse and worse. This was a major disappointment for everyone, and Traxx have taken steps to make sure he's never in charge of one of their sound systems again. We were all very p*ssed off about it and apparently many harsh words have been spoken by the Traxx boys to those concerned... Apparently Scion are keen to come back later in the year, with Tikiman, and do the set again in a smaller venue with a sound system that will do them justice, so I'll keep you posted as and when I know more... Just a quick reminder for 313 heads north of the border (or who fancy a trip to sunny Glasgow this weekend) - Scion & Tikiman will be doing the 'arrange and process Basic Channel' thing live in the Traxx room at the Arches on Saturday. Joe Claussell will also be playing in the Melting Pot room. I'll be playing alongside Scion with an Ableton Live set based on material from the Emoticon and Headspace back catalogues, plus a DJ set to finish the night off. Absolutely - part of the fun at Sonar is checking out all the acts you've never heard of during the daytime, drinking beer in the sunshine and just hanging out. The night-time events are fine if you like huge cavernous aircraft-hangers and banging techno, but it can be a bit much... Another tip for Sonar is that if you're even vaguely affiliated with a company that's involved in the music industry it's well worth spending the little bit extra for a 'professional accreditation' ticket - you'll save loads of time queuing, and you'll have access to bars where you'll get served quicker - plus you get a nice goodie bag... Re: (313) pocket techno rocket
> am enjoying Simbad - Peaktime (Earth Project), esp. the b side. Personally I think it's (well the a-side, anyway) a bit of a rip-off of DKD's Future Rage - the structure and chord changes are very very similar... sounds to me like he was trying too hard to sound like them...
Re: (313) pocket techno rocket
> p.s. looking for recommendatons on any good 'broken' style stuff thats > around at the minute if anyones picked anything tasty up. The new DJ Rels on Stone's Throw is killer - like Theo Parrish goes West London... http://www.juno.co.uk/IP/IF144089-01.htm Also there's a Bitasweet Phuturistic Dancin' 2 sampler 12" with tracks from Nubian Mindz, Titonton and Misa Negra that's pretty tasty. And they're not particularly 'broken', but the two new Kid Sublime 12"s on Rush Hour's new Jahwell offshoot are excellent in a Rednose Distrikt/Theo Parrish kinda way... Cheers, Tom
(313) Rob Hood mix
Morning 313, Thought some of you might be interested to check out Rob Hood's set from the Unit in Glasgow two weeks ago. It's quite different from his usual style, lots more old-school house and techno tracks - see what you think: http://www.traxxevents.com/music Also a quick heads-up for a couple of other Traxx events in Glasgow over the next few weeks: Sunday 23rd May, 2004 Dani Siciliano (live) Jazzanova @ Cottiers, Glasgow 7pm-late, £12 http://www.traxxevents.com/news/event.php?ID=49 Saturday 12th June, 2004 Joe Claussell Billy Woods Scion & Tikiman (live) Tom Churchill @ The Arches, Glasgow 11pm-late, £12 http://www.traxxevents.com/news/event.php?ID=46 Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) the future
> admittedly, the big band didnt just play old numbers, they played a couple > of his compositions too When I saw them in Sonar last year they were playing only his compositions (i.e. the tracks from the Goodbye Swingtime album), no 'old numbers' at all - is the current tour different then? I'm going to see them in Edinburgh tomorrow... I know what you're saying about it not being 'cutting edge' as such because of the use of a retro form of instrumentation - but I enjoyoed it as a musical performance. Some bits of it work better than others but I still think this project has a pretty interesting and unique approach... Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) Mutek info
> Anyone have info on cost to attend Mutek - I've been looking at their > website but they don't have prices posted yet (that I can see) According to their last mailout: "The ONLINE TICKET OFFICE and the COMPLETE SCHEDULE will be available online on APRIL 21" (at www.mutek.ca) Cheers, Tom
(313) Tune IDs
Morning list, My mate Laurence is after a few house and techno track IDs - he's stuck little clips up on this page: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/wjh2401/name_that_tune.html If any 313ers can spot any of them he'll be eternally grateful... Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) new Mills
> he's still talking a load of twaddle though - check the link. > > http://www.dancefrontdoor.co.uk/article2836.html I love this bit: "We resolved the mastering with references to Classical Music. So by, lowering the overall level, we were able to conform to the format of vinyl" Ha ha - in other words: "we had to turn the level down so it'll be a quiet pressing" :)
Re: (313) Scion/Moritz Von Oswald in London
> Did anyone see Scion on Friday? > > or Moritz Von Oswald Sunday night? I went to see Rhythm & Sound and Paul St Hilaire (the artist formerly known as Tikiman) in Glasgow on Friday. The event was held at the WInter Gardens on Glasgow Green - an enormous glass conservatory filled with exotic plants, attached to the People's Palace museum in the middle of a huge park. Mark and Moritz were in their 'Rhythm & Sound 45 sessions' guise, which meant they were basically just playing dub 7"s, with Moritz working an echo unit and a dub siren and Paul St Hilaire doing live vocals on top. Plenty of sublime moments, although they didn't play any of their own material, just loads of obscure dub records, most of which I didn't recognise. All good fun though, and they were accompanied by some excellent visuals courtesy of the Glasshouse Transmissions crew - hats off to them for another adventurous night of clubbing in the city, following their previous events with the likes of Weatherall, Skam DJs and Plaid at the same venue. So did anyone go and see R&S at Plastic People in London on Sunday? I bet it would have sounded awesome on that sound system... Cheers, Tom
(313) Retroactive
Following on from the recent bootleg repress of the Transmat Relics compilation on Buzz, the Retroactive compilation, 'Nite and Da', has also surfaced. In stock now at Rubadub in Glasgow and no doubt many other fine record outlets... Here's the details of the original release: http://www.discogs.com/release/131641 Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) Dutch stage @ Movement

Re: (313) Dutch stage @ Movement
Aardvarck is not connected with Rednose Distrikt... (Rednose Distrikt = DJ Kid Sublime and Steven De Peven) But both have recorded for the Rush Hour label... Cheers, Tom > Aardvarck: Rusty techno producer from Amsterdam. Used to do stuff for > Djax a lng time ago. Does stuff for Delsin, Music for Speaker, > Signum and Relaxo Abstracto. (313) Juan Atkins, Louis Digital and CiM last Saturday...
Great night of music in Glasgow on Saturday. First up was Juan Atkins and Louis Digital at the Arches - Louis warmed up in fine style with a nice mix of Detroit classics and jacking Chicago gear with plenty of his own material thrown in. Juan played a set that for me wasn't too exciting, peppered with classics but also a fair amount of fairly dull looped bangers - but he seemed to rock the crowd well enough. The fun really started afterwards, however, with a party at the Unit which kicked off around 3.30. First up was a live set from CiM which was my musical highlight of the night, if not the year - building from sublime electronica to some of his more uptempo Emoticon/Headspace releases and some wonderful unreleased tracks. Juan stepped up again for a two hour set of much more interesting music - house tracks from Theo Parrish and Joshua, a few of his own classics and some really nice deep techno. His mixing may be a bit ropey but the tunes make up for it - and hey, he invented techno, we can cut him a little slack :) Louis finished the night off with another rocking set, until Jupiter Jazz with the EQs up finally caused the sound system to collapse and we called it a night at 7am. A proper Glasgow party... Some Glasgow events coming up soon: March 27: Arne Weinberg & Matt Chester April 2: Rhythm & Sound w/ Tikiman April 10: Robert Hood Mail me off-list if anyone wants more info. Kraftwerk tomorrow night! Can't wait... Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) samples
> iirc, double helix jacked the same string samples for one of their > tunes on their emoticon 12". what track are those strings from? There are no samples on the Emoticon release - all the strings are played live and multitracked by Hans Anderson, an accomplished violin and cello player... But the Deep Burnt strings are from Freddie Hubbard's Little Sunflower, which is also one of Theo's Ugly Edits... Cheers, Tom
(313) Spatial/Arches
Morning 313 - just a couple of quick reminders... Tonight's Spatial radio show features Louis Digital (Arcola/Footwork) doing a guest mix and intereview. Glasgow listeners can tune in to 105.6 FM, everyone else can listen online at http://www.subcity.org - 10pm-midnight (GMT). Last week's show with Vince Watson is now archived at http://www.spatialsounds.com Also for the other Scottish listmembers - don't forget Juan Atkins, Louis Digital and Cosmo at the Arches tomorrow night. Info at http://www.traxxevents.com. There will be tickets available on the door, but get down early... Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) what's your favorite track/album right now?/HIP HOP
> m. pritchard (sp?) has a nice 12" out as harmonic33 on some german label. That's Alphabet Zoo - there's actually a couple of 12"s and a CD album from Harmonic33 so far... The Danny Breaks releases on Alphabet Zoo are also well worth checking - 'The Jellyfish' from his 'Another Dimension' release kicks off the 20.02.04 radio show at www.spatialsounds.com (under 'sounds') - nice stuff in the Dabrye/Prefuse 73 kinda mould... Here's some links: http://www.discogs.com/label/Alphabet_Zoo http://www.rekkid.co.uk/alphabetzoo/ http://www.gmediamusic.com/partnerships/harmonic33.html And Rob, yes it's Mark Pritchard of Reload/GlobComm etc fame - doing much better solo work than Tom Middleton these days IMHO :) Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) what's your favorite track/album right now?/HIP HOP
> also on rotation is Missy´s Wake up from the last album which is incredible. Yeah, this is my favourite cut on the album for sure - Jay-Z manages to rhyme 'David Beckham' with 'rectum' which is always a bonus :)

Kawai K1 for the string sound in LFO's LFO :) And Kenny Larkin was a big user of the Kurzweil K2000...
(313) Spatial radio show tonight with Vince Watson
Just a quick reminder about the weekly Spatial radio show, 10pm-midnight GMT tonight, where I'll be joined by special guest Vince Watson who's popping in for an interview and a mix. Tune in via http://www.subcity.org or 105.6 FM if you're in the Glasgow area. There's loads of good new music to air tonight from Titonton, John Tejada, Luciano, Yotoko, Jeff Mills and Iridite Productions to name but a few... Previous show archives and playlists are at http://www.spatialsounds.com Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) Track id on mahogani site

Re: (313) edits
> what is the difference between an "edit" and a "remix" ??? A re-edit, in the original sense of the word, uses only the final two-channel (stereo) recording of a song, which is then cut up, extended, shortened, reversed, put through effects etc. These days this would most likely be done in audio software like Pro Tools, Logic or Cubase, but in the old days it would be done by cutting and splicing quarter-inch reel-to-reel tape. A remix, on the other hand, is generally done by someone who's been given access to the original multi-track tape (in the old days) or individual sounds, loops, samples, beats etc (today). The remixer can then use as many or as few of the original building blocks of the song as they like, in conjunction with musical elements created themselves, to create a new track which uses any number of parts of the original. The primary difference being that anyone with a copy of the record can do their own 'edit', but to do a proper 'remix' you need the original producer to provide you with the song's original 'building blocks' in isolation. Cheers, Tom
(313) New mix
Greetings 313, Just thought I'd let you know I have a new mix online at Domu's website: http://www.dom-uniqueproductions.co.uk It's only in Realaudio on there, but there's a 192kbps MP3 version at http://emoticon-headspace.net/tom_churchill_march04.mp3 which I'll leave up for a few days for those who can handle a 90 meg download... It's not really a 'club' mix, but it covers a range of styles from glitched-up hip hop to slow 'n' low house to outer-space broken beat and retro Detroit techno. Here's the tracklisting: CiM - Dance Party (Ann Aimee) Jimmy Edgar - No Static (Warp) John Tejada & Arian Leviste - Language Barrier (Moods & Grooves) Kerrier District - Silhouettes (Rephlex) Theo Parrish - Lost Keys (Music Is...) [UR - Transition acapella] Future Beat Alliance - Feed My Soul (Versatile) Recloose - Us vs Us (Rush Hour) Russ Gabriel - Aldeburgh [Yotoko Unusual mix] (Emoticon) Vince Watson - Fragment I (Native) D5 - Controlled Force (Digital Soul) Derek Carr - L'Equipe (Headspace) Psyche - Neurotic Behaviour [Mayday mix] (Transmat) Son Of Scientist - Theory Of Everything (Main Squeeze) Domu - Snake Eyes (2000 Black) Cheers, Tom
(313) Mills
Did anyone other UK list-members spot the Jeff Mills mention in the fashion pages of the Guardian's Weekend magazine on Saturday? Quite amusing: http://www.guardian.co.uk/weekend/story/0,3605,1156729,00.html
Re: (313) Theo Parrish remix of DJ Kent
> ive had the harmonie park on white label for 2 months. its > brilliant. "twin cities" is the hotness, its going to be a future > classic... Yeah, this tune is absolutely killer - if anyone wants to hear it, Gilles Peterson opened his show with it this week. You can check it out online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio1_aod.shtml?gilles The show also has a live session from Dani Siciliano which is worth a listen... In other news - went to see Ricardo Villalobos and Jeff Mills at Pressure in Glasgow last night. Villalobos was pretty dull and didn't really do anything for me at all, but Jeff was on fire - tight mixing, hard as nails but funky as hell, working three decks like crazy. No-one beats him for sheer intensity and energy. He was playing bits of 2001: A Space Odyssey off DVD too, and working bits of the sound track into the mix, which sounded pretty cool... So Londoners - if you're torn between Villalobos @ Fabric or Mills @ Lost tonight, I know which I'd choose. Mind you, just noticed Rolando and Luciano are both playing Fabric too, which makes it a bit trickier... anyway have fun whatever you do! Cheers, Tom
(313) Spatial radio show on Subcity tonight...
Once again it's time for Spatial's weekly radio show on Subcity - broadcasting on 105.6FM in Glasgow and worldwide from http://www.subcity.org The show starts at 10pm GMT, which is an hour away right now... Tonight expect a mix of the very best techno and house, old and new, selected by myself and Laurence Hughes. You can email us with greetings/abuse/requests at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives, playlists and history can be found at http://www.spatialsounds.com Thanks to all those who tuned in and got in touch last week. Next week we'll have Vince Watson in the studio for a guest mix and a chat, and Louis Digital will in the house on March 12... Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) Scion in London!

(313) Triptych 2004 - Scotland
This may be of interest to the listmembers in Scotland/the North... I went to the launch for this year's festival last night. It takes place in Aberdeen, Ediburgh and Glasgow from April 28 to May 2. Here's a few highlights from the Glasgow line-up: April 28 Amp Fiddler, Gilles Peterson, Paul Cawley - Sub Club April 30 Mute showcase with Wire, Liars, Pan Sonic, Kaito, Chris & Cosey, John Peel and more - Tramway Pressure with Derrick Carter, Funk D'Void, Envoy - Arches May 1 Space Is The Place (Director's Cut) - GFT Optimo with Fourtet, Dabrye, Matthew Dear, Fennesz and more - Tramway Jaylib w/ Madlib/J-Rocc, Peanut Butter Wolf - Renfrew Ferry May 2 Dr Robert Moog & Jean Jacques Perry - How The Moog Synthesiser Became A Household Name - Tramway Arto Lindsay, Matthew Herbert, Brooks, Kid 606, DJ Rupture and more - Tramway The Rip-Off Artist - Sub Club Full details at http://www.triptych04.com/
Re: (313) Scion in Manc
Glasshouse Transmissions are putting on "Rhythm & Sound with Paul St Hilaire (aka Tikiman)" here in Glasgow on April 2nd, apparently, for any listmembers north of the border. It's in the greenhouse/garden of the People's Palace on Glasgow Green, which is a pretty cool place for a party. I've not made it to any of their other nights (Andy Weatherall, Plaid, Skam DJs etc) but heard good reports... Also now's probably a good time to plug this: Traxxevents at The Arches, Glasgow Saturday March 13 Traxx room: Juan Atkins (Model 500, Metroplex, Detroit) Louis Digital (Warp/Arcola, Footwork) Tom Churchill Melting Pot room: Cosmo (Bitches Brew, NYC) Simon Cordiner Andrew Pirie More info: http://www.traxxevents.com Cheers, Tom

Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) Juno
> Thanks a lot to all those who gave me the info on the Juno website. Does > anyone know what they are like to order from ? I use them a couple of times a month on average - absolutely faultless service. Definitely the fastest mailorder record store in the UK, I've often ordered records at 4pm which have still arrived the next morning. Their postage rates have increased a bit recently but their record prices are generally pretty good (and often a bit cheaper than other places)... Tom
Re: (313) primate/primevil/et. al

Re: (313) warprecords
> I was just wondering why anyone would? > > I mean it's just as easy to download from a peer to peer right, and it's > free. I wondered the same thing when Apple launched their iTunes Music Store - but eight months later they've sold 30 million songs. And bear in mind the service is only available to Mac users (approx 5% of the market), and only in America. So it looks like the market's definitely there... While we're on the subject - would people on the list pay to download (for example) Headspace and Emoticon tracks as high-quality MP3s? Trying to work out whether it's worth exploring these alternative forms of selling music on such a small scale... Cheers, Tom

It's not the price so much as the fact that there's not much music on the record - Mahigani releases are priced the same as normal US imports here but spending £8 on one short, average track isn't something all of us are happy to do unless the track is really amazing... > the first mahogani was already going for mad loot. the andres one > is pretty impossible to find already, i wouldnt be suprised to see > that one going up like mad sometime soon. Here's a hypotherical question - would you have bought the Kai Alce record if it had been released on a label other than Mahogani? What if it was an import from Europe on a label you'd never heard of, with no association to KDJ whatsoever? I'm just curious as to what extent the fact that it has KDJ's blessing would influence your decision to buy a record. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big KDJ fan too - I'm just not prepared to buy records which sound average just because they're on his label. If you genuinely like the record and would have bought it regardless then fine, I'm not challenging you - just curious... Tom

I'm sceptical as to how much the prices really will increase for the latest batch of Mahogani stuff. Even stuff like the ultra-limited Private Pressing isn't going for very high amounts on eBay yet. I think most of the hardcore collectors are buying the new stuff as soon as it comes out, whereas a lot of them would have missed the early KDJ releases first time round, hence the high second-hand prices for those... But while we're on the subject I think the last couple of Mahogani releases have been pretty weak - I wouldn't mind paying full price for a one-sided 12" if the track was amazing, but the AM and Kai Alce things are pretty underwhelming IMHO...
Re: (313) axis
> So, how come that new Jeff Mills project is £10.99 per twelve? It's ridiculous isn't it? Supposedly it's because they're limited to 2000 copies. But going by that logic, I could sell Emoticon stuff for £20 because they're limited to 500 copies! Also there's a message on the sleeve saying 'Support those who try to make a difference' - well I'd be more inclined to support him if he charged the same for his records as every other struggling independent. > and that Mahogani. £7.49 for half a one sided 12"? Yeah, they really are taking the p!ss with that...

Yes, if the mix CD is on someone else's label. For example, if Sony released a Jeff Mills mix CD they would pay him a fee to actually do the mix and to be associated with it; plus a licensing advance to Axis for any Axis tracks used; plus mechanical royalties for each of the tracks used, which would eventually reach his publishing company (Millsart BMI). But if he's releasing a mix CD on his own label, the situation is different - he'll be paying mechanical publishing royalties for all the tracks he's using (some of which will eventually come back to him, if he's using his own tracks); plus licensing advances to the labels of all the other tracks he's using...

Headspace is distributed through Groovedis in the States - you can order quite a few titles direct from http://www.groovedis.com Other US stores that stock Headspace stuff include: http://www.planetxusa.com/control/index.lasso http://www.dancetracks.com/ http://www.satelliterecords.com/ http://www.bentcrayon.com/ Just watch out for a few dodgy BT trance records released on a now-defunct label which was also called Headspace! Some Iridite and Downlow titles should be available from Submerge: http://www.submerge.com/shoppingcart/index.php Cheers, Tom

Re: (313) I'll see you Luke Slater mate!
Luke Slater's 7th Plain stuff on GPR is my favourite of his, along with some of the Planetary Assault Systems (Booster!) and Morganistic stuff. It's a shame how he's gone from being so good to so unlistenable, he's really lost it badly I reckon... Cheers, Tom
(313) Stacey Pullen mix
There's a 90-minute chunk of the end of Stacey Pullen's set recorded at the Arches in Glasgow last October now up here: http://www.traxxevents.com/music Realaudio only I'm afraid... There's also my warm-up set (and archives from a few other Glasgow parties). What's missing is Stacey's first couple of hours, but they may appear over the next week or so... Cheers, Tom
Re: (313) track ids please!
The first one is 'Lets's Break' on the Sound Stream EP: http://www.discogs.com/release/37029 You'll be able to get it through www.hardwax.com, if anywhere. The second one sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't quite place it... Sounds like Aroy Dee - Kiss (NWAQ) Killer record - and the flip ('The Planets') is even better. My joint favourite techno record of 2003 along with the Dan Curtin on Down Low... Cheers, Tom

(313) Apple GarageBand
Well, it was launched today: http://www.apple.com/ilife/garageband/ I guess Apple bought Emagic for a reason :)
Re: (313) OT: Ripping with Itunes
> I want to take a mix cd of mine with track markings and make a continuous > mp3 file to put up on my site so my fellow 313ers can download if they > wish. can i do this with Itunes? Sure - here's what iTunes help says - the vital info is in point 3: 1 Insert an audio CD in your computer. After a moment, the songs on the CD are listed in the iTunes window. 2 Click to remove the checkmark next to any songs you don't want to import into your library. 3 If you want to remove the gap of silence that normally occurs between songs, select two or more adjacent songs and choose Advanced > Join CD Tracks. *iTunes imports any joined songs as one track*. To change back to importing the songs separately, select the joined songs and choose Advanced > Unjoin CD Tracks. 4 Click the Import button to add the selected songs to your library. The display area at the top of the iTunes window shows how much time it will take to import each song. To cancel import, click the small X next to the progress bar.
