Happy Friday's everyone,

I hope you will forgive the self promotion but I put in a late shift last night
at home and unusually ended up with a quite a decent effort .   There's the
usual heavy dose of Detroit based artists labels and producers I can't get
enough of at the moment. Its deep house essentially, mostly new acquisitions
but one or two older reference points too.

 Happy Friday's everyone,

I hope you will forgive the self promotion but I put in a late shift last
night at home and unusually ended up with a quite a decent effort . There's
the usual heavy dose of Detroit based artists labels and producers I can't
get enough of at the moment. Its deep house essentially, mostly new
acquisitions but one or two older reference points too.

Hello team,

some weeks ago there was bit of chat about new Detroit labels and i was raving
about Keith Worthy's Aesthetic Audio. This weekend to follow the release
of the latest chapter i decided to record a dedicated mix to this imprint.

its a vinyl mix covering nearly all the EPs picking out some of favorites.

these, featuring just one label, are brilliant for understanding the

(313) A Mojuba Mix

2011-08-19 Thread Placid
not strictly 313 but i do mention that I have omitted Reel by Reel so it is
valid on a technicality

thought some of you guys might like it anyway..

Mojuba Record Label

Best described as deep dubby house with occasional forays into deep techno and
a smattering of tech house on sublabels a.r.t.less and Wandering.

with a roster of Sven Weisemann, Nick Sole, (label owner Don Williams, Oracy
and Stereociti, as well as a few one offs by Chez Damier, Bernard Badie, Marty
Bonds and Tyree on Mojuba it is one of the few labels that i own nearly every
release of...

Thought I'd stick my favourite releases on one mix so here it is….

You can download it here - http://www.acid-house.net/Placid_Mojuba.mp3

I will post a tracklist over the weekend..

I omitted the Tyree and Reel By Reel on the grounds they had been released on
another label… but I put Bernard Badie on there so that kind of thinking
doesn't really hold up but it's the best I could come up with…..

Anyway enjoy the music

Done in one hit on 2 x technics 1210s 2hrs @ 320 kbps - 290mb ish

(313) My latest mix: Tresor 1991-1997 retrospective

2009-12-13 Thread kent williams
I did this mix for the Audiodope podcast:
http://www.audiodope.com/mixes/chaircrushertresor91-97mix/

After someone brought up the Eddie Fowlkes track Move To Detroit, I
found that it was on a Tresor release, and started looking at all the
Detroit music that was released on Tresor in the 90s. This got me
thinking -- while the primary vector of international dissemination
for Detroit techno came from the UK, the Tresor label was crucial,
particularly for popularizing the harder side of Detroit Techno. Even
in the United States, Tresor releases were an important source of new
Detroit music, as Tresor often had wider US distribution than Detroit
labels.

The tracks here aren't all Tresor original releases -- many Detroit
tracks were licensed from Detroit labels --- but I've given the Tresor
catalog number and date. Two of the tracks are actually by German
artists, but that can be misleading as some of Juan Atkins releases
were produced in Berlin in collaboration with Mauritz Von Oswald, and
Thomas Fehlmann. The influences were by no means unidirectional --
just as Detroit artists were hugely influential in Europe, Detroit
artists often found new sounds through exposure to European music and
culture.

With the rise of the modern 'minimal' style centered on Berlin and
Richie Hawtin, it's important to remember the way Berlin and Detroit
first formed an artistic affinity, and the way that Tresor in
particular helped make the careers and reputations of Detroit artists
on the world stage.

Track list:
Blake Baxter – “Reach Out (Reach Deep Down Underground Mix)” Tresor 31 1992
Eddie Flashin Fowlkes 3MB – “Es-29″ Tresor 3 1992
Kelli Hand – “Terminal” Tresor 64 1997
Model 500 – “M 69 Starlight” Tresor 63 1997
Blake Baxter “The Warning” Tresor 2 1991
Infiniti “Hard Drive” Tresor 48 1996
Jeff Mills “Condor to Mallorca” Tresor 25 1994
Joey Beltram – “Game Form” Tresor 33 1995
Blake Baxter “Minimal Freak” Tresor 74 1997
X-103 “Hagia Triada” Tresor 12 1993
X-102 “Titan” Tresor 3 1992
X-102 “Hyperion” Tresor 3 1992
3MB “Jazz Is The Teacher” Tresor 9 1993
Robert Hood “Home” Tresor 27 1994
Lyot (Maurizo Mix) Vainquere Novamute NoMu 14 1993

this was one of the first techno cassettes that i bought. i was so
puzzled for so long because of the goofy title: “Trance Tekno
Express.” I definitely sought out other trance comps for a while
before I realized that the awesome Detroit Techno on that mix is not
what most of the world calls trance, even in the early 90s. Argh.

cool mix kent. thanks!

Great looking tracklist Paul.

Is it downloadable? I don't like using flash players etc.

The Red Bull one annoys me too. Shame, as they have some great content
that I want to listen to on the move.

Niceone missed this mix somehow but im on it now. Aerial is one of my
favs in this sort of stuff.

Ravinder.

Yeah - Arial is great - I always want to like his Made Up Sound stuff
more than I actually do.  The main reason I booked him to play was the
idea of a Dubstep producer who also did House and had a Detroit
 Techno-ish background..mmm, my favourite combination :)

Great mix - think me AND Dave both played the Shake remix when we had
him playing in Glasgow earlier this year (to about 40 people
 unfortunately!) :)

He's a very talented producer - such a deep sound no matter what he
 turns his hand to.

 cheers

Aerial is a great piece of work and well worth tracking down.
