Tuxedomoon? 'Desire' from 1981 is a fascinatingly strange album with some
synth-pop elements, well worth a listen or two.

BTW, Jeff Bennett has added a great new mix to his archives:

http://www.jeffbennett.info/djlive.htm

 1. Jeff Bennett - Smoke In The Water - CDR
 2. Nukes - Alkoholics - CDR
 3. Kriece - The Glue That Binds - CDR
 4. Thomas Overas - Sikkelig Minimal - CDR
 5. Kevin Saunderson - The Groove That Won't Stop - KMS
 6. Ralphie Rosario - You Used To Hold Me (Jeff Bennett Rmx) - CDR
 7. Ron Jeremy - Window Licker - Bootleg
 8. Jeff Bennett - Vibrant - Kung Fu Dub
 9. Jeff Bennett - Growing Means - Middle
10. DJinxx - Surrealism (Paul Mac Rmx) -

Well don't forget the Heaven 17 side-project British Electric
Foundation. I think they had a couple of LPs on which they collaborated
with famous singers of the times.

For obscure: check out Kissing the Pink. This also reminds me of Vicious

The The. Amazing ostensibly non-commercial stuff, which charted quite

Well don't forget the Heaven 17 side-project British Electric
Foundation. I think they had a couple of LPs on which they collaborated
with famous singers of the times.

For obscure: check out Kissing the Pink. This also reminds me of Vicious
Pink Phenomena (if you can still find stuff by them?!)

The The. Amazing ostensibly non-commercial stuff, which charted quite
often!

Blancmange, Soft Cell (of course) Talk Talk. Hmmm: Japan?!? (Especially
'European Son' LP.

You probably know of course but Propaganda oughtn't to be left out from
the above either.

? - there was no LP of that name; it was a 12/7 which has been

Yeah, you're right. The LP I've got is 'Assemblage.' No vinyl version
listed in discogs though, (afaics), but I'm definitely not mistaken that
I have it on vinyl, not cd!

It's a great record imo. There's a version of Life in Tokyo (both it and
the extended version where produced by Giorgio Moroder) but it's not the
best thing on there, I believe. The title track 'European Son' with its
hard quantizing (the first time I'd think I'd recognised the use of a
drum machine, I think) comes close.

Spot the 313ers pushing 40! ;-)

Almost time for smooth jazz and slippers...

You might look into The Assembly; a series on one-offs Vince did with
several guest vocalists. My fave is One Daywith Paul Quinn from Apres
Ski. I know there's at least one more with Feargal Sharkey (It Never
Happens to Me). Maybe another. I'd have to think about it.

different ratios of synth to pop:
Visage. Vicious Pink. PSB.
Dalek i , also known as Dalek I Love You. Oh, that other Assembly single
is Never Never.

Haruomi Hosono: SFX and Philharmony. Sakamoto : B2 Unit. YMO : Technodelic.
Bill Nelson : Quit Dreaming and Get On The Beam (has some guitar as well).
Telex
Peter Godwin's Images of Heaven track.
Thomas Leer
CabVolt.
a few Red Flag tracks.

newer:
You should give the last Future Bible Heroes' record (Eternal Youth) a
spin - prime synthpop (FBH is a spinoff of Stephin Merritt's Magnetic
Fields)

The first Ladytron record.

...I'll think of 400 more after I post this.

This is the last one: check the two LPs Giorgio Moroder produced for
Sparks...one is No.1 in Heaven. Seems like there's another, but I can't
recall it and I'm too lazy to dig through my rack to see. And if you're
going to do that, you might as well dig up Kimono My House and
Propaganda (by Sparks) - neither of them are synthpop at all, but
they're great records :-) And, oh - the band Propaganda, of course. All
that ZTT stuff is fun - pretentious, but fun.

Depending how much synth or pop one desires ...

Propaganda, Scritti Politti, SPK, Strawberry Switchblade, Shakepeare's
Sister, KTP, Blancmange, Camouflage, Boxcar

Jeff I bet you got all these ;)

Yeah - spot on with Blancmange especially. Scritti Politti as well
(after the punk phase - but I liked 'em then, too).
Oh yeah, KTP - Big Man Restless :-) Surgical Penis Klinik - fairly
serious stuff!!
