yep parabolas is production genius (at least the first half anyway), one of those albums that seems like a lot of nothing at first but grows and grows with complexity with each listen. I couldn't possibly disagree with this more. His most recent Parabolas (Kompakt) from last year was pretty much my favorite record of last year. Agreed his strongest material to date, not to say he didn't have any highlights on his palette material. But these records in particular still kill it. I dropped the timebomb vip mix two weeks ago a gig here in Pittsburgh and it was well received on the dancefloor. Unlike most collectors I'm happy with reissues, since one it keeps vinyl going ( my medium of choice) and it keeps tunes current for the new generations of people that aren't nearly as nerdy about dance music as we are. John had some moments on the mosaic label as well, but I may be biased on that front. I was a big fan of that label and its output. jw On Tue, Jan 24, 2012 at 8:50 AM, Aidan O'Doherty aidan.b.odohe...@gmail.com wrote: http://www.residentadvisor.net/review-view.aspx?id=10304 didn't know this was happening - makes very happy. tejada's best stuff. as far as i'm concerned, the only releases you need from his back catalogue (except for his album on A13 and 'A Fading Memory' off the Toiling of Idle Hands' album on Immigrant). -- Technoir Audio http://www.technoiraudio.com dealing with your imperfect world

'Song forms freedom' on Mosaic is his best imo, along with Timebomb. There's a great one he did with Titonton as well, can't recall the name though - will dig it out tonight. I think he's got plenty of good material to be honest, lots of good b side tracks well worth digging out. Re: (313) John Tejada 7th City reissues
There are Tejada tracks that are indelibly awesome and classic. Then there's the rest of his work, which is almost that good. I don't think he's released anything that's actually bad. Some are less memorable, less arrestingly original, but you could play a whole set of his B- and C-list stuff and it would work. But then that's the great thing about there being a bazillion new tracks being released every year. If you just skim the top 0.05% thats still hundreds of new tracks to choose from. And I'm resigned to be in the 99%. I'll get there some day. Re: (313) John Tejada 7th City reissues
Could you really like it that much if you thought it was a blatant Plaid rip-off? Maybe I'm quibbling over definitions, but 'blatant rip-off' implies that it isn't as good as the original. If it's good, it's good, and any stylistic similarities are irrelevant to its quality. In a certain respect everything is a rip off of everything. Shades of Jae rips off Bob James. listening right now to Daydreams In Cold Weather, I can hear the Plaid similarity, but Tejada is more straightforward rhythmically, and where Plaid makes melodic puzzle-palaces using random processes, Tejada seems to use more intentional composing. Re: (313) John Tejada 7th City reissues
the guy produces so much and a lot of it did sound so similar that it was hard to differentiate between releases. just think the stuff on 7th city stood out more. 7th city seems like a mythical label now. remember walking into a now long defunct record store in dublin and they had a dj set-up and the guy was playing a track off his 2nd 12 on 7th city. walked straight up to the counter and said i'll have one of those, please. but you've reminded me of a lot of other stuff that he put out. like on mosaic (which i have somewhere). also, his album and releases on (de)focus with the divine styler rhyming and his mother (that right?) singing on them. ---BeginMessage--- News of any reissue of 7th City stuff makes me happy. Joe Babylon and myself had a wonderful time digging through the piles at 7th City distribution during the Metroplex 10th anniversary do. I still play tracks form the stuff I bought there , as well as from binges at Submerge and Record Time. The X-ray signature of the record boxes at the airport caused some raised eyebrows from the security gal at the scanner. As soon as I told her they were records, she was cool. Mine was probably nowhere near the largest stash through the scanner that week. (313) John Tejada in NYC this Friday
FRIDAY OCTOBER 10 The Bunker Special guests: John Tejada (Palette, 7th City | Los Angeles) Sara Walker (Direct Drive, Static | NYC) DJ Ripley (SoFat, HavocSound, Deathsucker Records | NYC) John Tejada is one of the most innovative techno/house producers we've heard, and we're constantly playing his tracks at the Bunker. He's released about 8 albums and countless singles. Highly recommended if you like Dan Bell, Perlon tracks, Magda, Kompakt, designer techno ... or if you just like to jack on the dancefloor. John will be playing a Final Scratch set from about 1:30 until we all want to stop dancing. Behind the decks, Ripley gets music to trick your ass into thinking it's a brain, re-breaking bass and beats from jungle into dub, dancehall, hiphop, and experimental noise. On sunny days, Ripley spins rocksteady. Ripley wants everyone to dance, and she usually succeeds. Ripley spent most of her summer touring Europe, and her bag is surely full of amazing new records. She will be releasing a mix CD on Deathsucker Records soon. Sara Walker is one of the best electro/breaks DJ's in NYC, frequently igniting the dancefloor at Static events with her unique blend of all things dark and funky. This may well be your last chance to see her play a breaks set in NYC for a long time, as she is moving to Europe in early November. The last time Sara played the Bunker, the dancefloor erupted and we had one of our best parties ever. plus - Resident DJs: Movement, kleverVice, Spinoza Resident Visualists: Giles Hendrix, Chris Jordan the Bunker Fridays at SubTonic Lounge 9p-3a 107 Norfolk Street (downstairs) (212)358-7501 http://www.klever.org/thebunkernyc free, 21+ eclectic ecstatic party sounds
RE: (313) John Tejada in NYC this Friday
i'll add my recommendation to this show. i brought jt to cleveland for our monthly warm art night in september, and he absolutely destroyed the room. playing from final scratch, john dropped a blend of click tracks, detroit chords, lush pulsating layers, perlonesque beats, etc. complete with scratching. it was 3 hours of perfectly programmed madness, and he had the room screaming for more when he came off the decks. definitely one to catch. -Original Message- From: Bryan Kasenic [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, October 09, 2003 3:28 PM To: 313 Subject: (313) John Tejada in NYC this Friday FRIDAY OCTOBER 10 The Bunker Special guests: John Tejada (Palette, 7th City | Los Angeles) Sara Walker (Direct Drive, Static | NYC) DJ Ripley (SoFat, HavocSound, Deathsucker Records | NYC) John Tejada is one of the most innovative techno/house producers we've heard, and we're constantly playing his tracks at the Bunker. Yeah. I was really surprised to hear a white label of one of these a little over a year ago. It seemed to have a great techno sensibility, for whatever that's worth. I liked it. :) the november mix for violent recordings is by him and available at http://www.violencerecordings.com/viomixtejadanov.mp3 anyone who cant spot the samples in the first track should be immediately unsubbed ;p LOL. [313] John Tejada in Glasgow
Any 313'ers going to see Mr Tejada at the CCA in Glasgow tomorrow night? If it's half as good as his Sonar set we should be in for a treat. Nice coup for the promoters - hope it's repaid by a healthy crowd. John's new album is great! I just picked it up on wed. and it's really nice stuff. It is very much in the vein of the de:focus album. It's different without being too IDM. It's great to hear so much variety from John. He's one of those guys that has pure talent and an uncanny musical ear. Does anyone know when his immigrant LP is coming out? minto __ Do You Yahoo!? Just noticed that @ #1 in the Groovetech Top20 is John Tejada Arian Leviste's 'Its Only Music'. Possibly because it's released on... Groovetech Records! 'Tis a good EP, though. His joint EP with Titonton is also tasty. TOM - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I had assumed looking at their regular top20 lists that their label would lots of mediocre club crap, but I have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of the Groovetech releases. The Swayzak mix comp (unmixed 2x12) had some great dubby stuff from Convextion (one of the tektite tracks), Akufen, CiM, etc. and other GT releases from Tejada, Dan Curtin, hmmm.. p - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: [313] John Tejada
So speaking of Tejada, I ran out of time at the store before I could drop a needle on his another new one (a 2x12?) with obnoxious teddy bears on the full-color jacket. What label is that, and how is it? I've heard it compared, stylistically, to his LP on deFocus for that midtempo/downtempo-ish style, which I really like - but that is a high bar for comparison. Can anyone confirm or deny? Cheers, Matt - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[ fab. ] [ www.negative-industries.com ] Considering the sheer volume of material John released in the last 18 months I was kind of glad he took a short break (to save my bank balance if nothing else!)- he has another album for deFocus ready and I believe another album for his own label and Pallete recently issued a CD compilation with some of his finer moments- also check out his recent releases with Fabrice Lig on Seventh City Jason Brunton Iridite - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [313] John Tejada (Metaformal 02)
John Tejada has two albums coming out in the next couple of months. I'm told the one on Plug Research is going to be more on the IDM tip, the stuff I heard sounded a little like Plaid. Expect this one around May. He also has another LP on Robin Porter's Immigrant label, this will be more on the techno tip. I heard this is suppose to be out in June. http://www.immigrantindustries.com/ John Tejada has a collaboration with Polar (Certificate 18) coming out on Pieter K's Metaformal label. I think this should be out soon. The A Side is suppose to be kind of electro-ish, the b-side is drum n bass. I think there are soundclips at http://www.metaformal.com And John Tejada Titonton Duvante also made some more tunes. I think this time they are more on the drum n bass tip. Speaking of Titonton, I heard he has a single on Archive Records coming out. Can't wait!!
