(313) New Metroplex

2014-04-28 Thread Patrick Wacher
I saw a new Metroplex pop up on Rush Hour:
http://www.rushhour.nl/store_detailed.php?item=75019

Was pleasantly surprised to see the label is back with a couple of great
tracks from Population One.

Had no idea Juan was reviving it, any further details around it's relaunch?

- Patrick.

Yeah. Hopefully more information will be forthcoming in the days leading up
to movement. I'm wondering out loud if the news of this release got buried
in the announcement of Mr. Dixon's pending retirement from the dance music
game? Full disclosure, I'm being selfish, I want more quality music from
all that are either involved, or yet to be involved with this wonderful
thing we call techno.

Viva la Metroplex!

Thank you for sharing, I am going to buy Claude's album right now, I think
it sounds really nice, classic Detroit techno for sure.
There is a LOT of great 313 music coming out at this time, despite low list
traffic I think it's a great time for Detroit house and techno.
I hope anyone who is buying Detroit music can please take the time to
mention releases they like here! (maybe people just aren't buying as many
records...)

Re: (313) New Track

Hi Tim,

on a list this quiet I think the spam bar is set pretty high.

I didn't much care for 005, but I genuinely enjoyed 002 and This Aint
How It's Gonna Be. Those ones feel a lot more lively; less
looped/plodding. Maybe 005 needs some more macro-level
progression/structure?

I put up a new rough track last Sunday:

https://soundcloud.com/brianprince/hypoxia-work-in-progress

Dark bubbliness, somewhere in the neighborhood of Optic Nerve. Named it
as I did because my city's been choked with smoke from forest fires for
the past three weeks.

Thanks to everyone who's commented on or purchased the LP. It hasn't
exactly sold like crazy, but having only one prior EP to my name (which
was spelled wrong on the sticker), and going the Bandcamp route, I kind
of expected that.

 Onwards and funkwards ...

Got the album a week or so ago and it's completely brilliant. I love Rob hood
but mostly in small doses (so I wouldn't generally listen to a whole album by
him) but the Floorplan LP I'd definite make an exception for.

Holy crap. I'm loving this track! Has that classic techno and house feel
from the late 80's early 90's that I love so much!

Good one!

Hey guys,

I'm a little nervous putting this up with a lot of heads in the know...

Hoping you think this is a little better than what Joe received recently
haha.

hemiptera just created a bandcamp page and released a new EP called
''solicitous risin''

Academy Records and Good Records? Haven't been to either myself but have heard
good reports.

Sadly Sound Library seems to have shut and Gimme Gimme have moved to LA!

If you want to freak out, go to The Thing in Brooklyn. It's one of the most
remarkable digging experiences I've had. The epitome of crate digging you might
say.

Check this video out that I shot there (Paul - I think you'll enjoy watching
until the very end).

When I was there one guy ran out screaming because he couldn't handle the
chaos...

Every record is $2 though.

There was just something about the thing that on thump series by vice.

All the episodes so far have been pretty interesting.

As someone who moved here about a year ago I feel like I haven't even scratched
the surface of Brooklyn.

I haven't been to Academy yet. I mostly go to Halcyon and A1 for used and
L.I.E.S. releases ;)

You just have to dive in. Some people can't handle it though, like that guy who
ran out screaming when I was there.

It also smells a bit of dead cats. I'd advise wearing a dust filter face mask
if you're going to spend more than an hour or so down there. Worth taking a
portable record player too.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but I loved it! Found some good stuff in there,
including that Jamerson record on Happy Records that's in the video I shot.

2013-05-15 Thread Andrew Duke In The Mix/Cognition Audioworks
Not sure if it is an older unreleased track or a new song, but a
forthcoming compilation on Minus out later this month (apparently all
unreleased material) has a Theorem track on it called Formulate. Soundin'
good. Hopefully this means more Theorem music to come.

Is there any place one can hear it?

Looks like it will be available on the CD mix of the comp and as part of the
digital release per the Minus site. I am pretty sure this was the first time I
went to the Minus site since Theorem stopped releasing music on the label :)

yeah... Djinxx... the hype machine did a fine job on that one...

2013/2/7 Philip McGarva philipmcga...@gmail.com

Yeah I got a copy this week. It's a nice package with classic Japanese
styling. It looks like it might contain upmarket cosmetics. My copy doesn't
seem to say anything about 'War of the Worlds' being mastered from vinyl,
thought it's a slightly different version to the one that appears on
'Detroit 313' et al. Anyhoo the tracks are mostly familiar. Many seem to be
inspired by 'Groove La Chord' which was fine once or twice but not
indefinitely. There are a few nice, if a little generic, tracks toward the
end of the second CD. I guess Derrick can now let Djinxx go back to his
happy monastic life in the Malaysian jungle.

Anyway.

Received my copy from Juno yesterday. And I can't say I am very impressed.
Collection of good, yet old, tunes, and some new ones. Maybe not new, but
new to me anyway. I fell for the hype once more. Time:Space 2 is a far
better compilation, IMHO.

And what is it with War Of the Worlds? Mastered from a vinyl source?
What does that mean?

W

expensive compilation, especially when you consider that at least 1/3 of

And what is it with War Of the Worlds? Mastered from a vinyl source? What

Yeah... But there are tons of CDs out there, from which they could have
taken the track, for example:

And that Digital Justice track also sound like it's been recorded from a
vinyl record.

But you never hear of the companies that actually do a good job. Last year
I had the pleasure of having a track included on the Fabric 60 Dave Clarke
compilation. I think both Fabric and Tracksuite both do a fine job, Just
this last week I got another royalty-statement from them in the mail. And I
must add that this was my first bit of experience with labels and royalties
and stuff, and so far so good.

think resident advisor should be made aware of this. what i find
surprising about their piece is the obvious fact that none of it was
checked out - a quick google search would turn up loads of info on
djinxx - sure they have him in their profiles, including his twitter
feed. it's not like they are up against print deadlines.

Good on yer Aidan.

But yes, trying to raise journalistic standards at RA might be a bit of a
forlorn hope.
