You can find it on CD ROM video, on Part 2 of the 430 West CD single version (430WUKTCD2), which also has the May & Octave One remixes. Well worth seeking out. Hi list, this thread is starting to annoy me..the part concerning us (313'ers) and them (rest of the world). I don't think we have any right to consider us some sort of illuminated caste, as being culturally advanced because we choose to listen to so-called underground music. People are entitled to listen to whatever they feel, and this choice should'nt categorize as being poor shallow souls who accept whatever the man throws out to them. I mean, if most of the mainstream people heard what we were listening to they would probably say the same thing..there is no VERB to spread to the masses. To each his own, and if you like cheesy trance it ONLY means we'll never go clubbing together. bye sorry for the rant, but im still in the office and not too happy bout it! ;-) fab || Web Developer || [EMAIL PROTECTED] || || www.deepend.it || "If we never looked at things and thought what they might be, we'd still be in the tall grass with the apes." Re: Re: [313] Re: Jaguar Video
This thread has been full of some interesting opinions, it actually reminds me of arguments that were made a few years ago when 'electronica' was supposed to blow up and be the next big thing. Remember all the buzz over 'AMP' I think people within the techno community saw it as signs of an invasion. That overnight artists who were dedicated to making unique and innovative music whould suddenly become hypnotized into selling out because of exposure to a mass audience. Jaguar is a great track with lots of emotion, we can all agree on that. I personally think Rolando deserves the exposure, MTV air-play included. Sure some people will love it and some people will not get it (music is after all an artform) the point is those who do like it will hopefully have had their minds opened and want to develop an appreciation for this music. dave pinter

Most ppl within 10 miles who has heard my techno rekkids hate all of them except my Technasia stuff... No class at all... You have to be a bit more mature I think to understand good music... It comes natural to me but a lot of children are born subnormal in North Yorkshire so they have no hope of enjoying it or understanding it... What I've found with people who aren't into techno with Jaguar is most enjoy it. I've even sent tapes of just random good tracks to my friends in Florida and many of them enjoy this track. Some just start asking questions like what is this genre. Some think its music to sophisticated for them. One of my friends who is really into breaks/trance thought he "should be drinking a martini to it". Others just beg to barrow it and the remixes or even to buy it of me but of course I refuse. You can't contain something that is that good. Yes there will be people who will not respect the track as many of us will, but to those who start asking questions because they heard it and then grow to respect and love the music we all do thats great. If they don't truly like the music than it will pass. They will listen to it for a while and then it will make its way back to a stack of cds that they don't listen to anymore and they will forget about it. If I was watching MTV and into that mostly garbage music I would be glad someone put Jaguar on it as compared to something by lets say Sonique or Alice deejay or one of those trendy producers. Maybe Jaguar will reach my brother by way of MTV and he'll stop listening to the mainstream trash rap or reach my sister and make her stop being obsessed by those boy bands and their music they don't make. As much as I don't like Jaguar being broadcasted on MTV I'm not going to complain because there is good that can come from it. -Stacey

hi Nick, after reading my post, i disagree with most of what i said too... i wish i could take it back, but too many people have read it and responded to it, oh well. i guess what i meant to say was i just didn't want to see too many of the 'wrong' fans in this... i think one of the coolest things about going to a good techno party or even a good techno club is that the majority of the people understand it's about the music, and not the glory/image/popularity. the majority of people who listen to underground music have this appreciation for the music like no other. i think Jaguar has the huge potential to bring new listeners in of all different backgrounds and musical tastes, it has something to satisfy everybody. i don't think it will necessarily be a bad thing to show it on TV, but i also don't think it will necessarily be a bad thing for it NOT to show on TV. i guess that was more of what i was trying to say. > this, but this > music is called underground for a reason, and that's to keep > it OFF the > mainstream channels... any kind of music that blows up > generally loses its > quality. putting on flameproof suit now... I would disagree. Its my feeling that underground just happens to exist as part of how the music was developed. To create music just to be underground seems kind of reactionary, doing the opposite of what you think the mainstream wants. Ignore mainstream, and if something you do happens to get picked up great! Its when music is MADE for the masses that it loses quality, the only way to please everyone is to not say anything, and thats what music made for mainstream tries to do. > case in point, rap. i used to love a lot of the rap that > came out (Wu Tang, > Outkast, Death Row, etc.). rap started blowing up REAL good > with No Limit > Records, the ultimate in selling out what rap is all about. > think about it. There is a lot of good hip-hop out there, not sure if you make a distinction between that and rap, some do, some don't. BUT it still exists, and its still changing. You can't look at the mainstream portion of a genre and think its a direct reflection of the entire thing. > saturation of public channels makes people sick of the music. i hope so, i honestly do. When something can become a hit by accident and not because off a smart mediaplan, why not? Underground does not mean it's forbidden to sell records. Be honest you aim to reach a lot of people, otherwise you have to make music at home and let only your friends listen to it. Or distribute your song trough internet channels only. JayCee. I literally felt a new genre (aka mutant funk virus) being released on the unsuspecting crowd. I called it Tech-Hop at the time, which is an exceedingly lame genre name. But it was a jaw-dropping stew of hard, almost distorted crunchy hip-hop drums, in perfect freestyle tempo, but accented with repetitive hiccuping stabs and samples. Watch this man. The Pubahs also dropped some new gems. Doc Toefinger has been working on channeling the spirit of Doc Funkenstein, with great success. Todd Sines was also in fine form, laying down his latest minimal bleep seduction at the end of his set. And it WAS a family affair. Ol-skool reprezent! -- There4IM

A big style in Melbourne now is what they call "tech R&B" - artists like Destiny's Child, Missy Elliott, Kandi. It was overground but now it's underground, it's become camp and cool. I love that stuff. And it is really subversive if you listen to it.
Re: [313] Jaguar Video
and that's a problem why? i don't know, i know we probably don't see eye to eye on this, but this music is called underground for a reason, and that's to keep it OFF the mainstream channels... any kind of music that blows up generally loses its quality. putting on flameproof suit now... case in point, rap. i used to love a lot of the rap that came out (Wu Tang, Outkast, Death Row, etc.). rap started blowing up REAL good with No Limit Records, the ultimate in selling out what rap is all about. think about it. saturation of public channels makes people sick of the music. media glamor attracts untalented artists who make crappy, uninspired, sampled, and/or bland music. trance is a very accessible type of music. i myself started listening to trance, until i started searching for something better. someone said on here that mainstream music searches for you, you search for underground music. and that's exactly what happened with me, and that's exactly what will happen to most true future fans of the underground sound. most people who will become fans of techno will find it sooner or later... keeps the quality high, and the fans true. okay, flame away now. 8o) just my $0.01 (does it deserve $0.02?) How can you obtain a copy of this CD ROM?
Re: [313] Jaguar Video
Too late mate. It's already been on MTV UK & Ireland. Jaguar Video
Anyone with any interest whatsoever in current Detroit techno owes it to themselves to try and see the CD-ROM (only?) video of "Jaguar" which has just come out on UK split cd single. Beginning with Rolando holding what looks like a Technics 1200 against his chest, the whole thing emphasizes the interface between machinery--cars, bikes, turntables--and the local South West Detroit community. It's a great, uplifting blast of color and movement which culminates with a group of soulful Latin-dancers ripping it up to the track on the streets in broad daylight. The UR crew also makes an enigmatic appearance: a core of dark energy at the center of Jaguar's electric storm. Incomparable. At the risk of going out on a limb, I hope they don't show it on tv: it's too good to be caged in with all the usual crap. Wes
