simple question:

does the weather strongly influence the music you listen to?

i realise a lot of the music i listen to, regardless of genre, has a
melancholic edge to it (which is why a lot of 'detroit' music really touches
me), which when the sun shines, say, is not really fitting for my mood. (i
usually listen to dub, 70s reggae when the sun
shines)

i just wondered what others thought.

obviously cos i live in manchester uk, it's p**sing down most of the time

I'm really surprised that people pin basically abstract music down to
such an obvious sad/happy association.

I personally listen to Mahler's 4th Symphony when it snows, John
Coltrane or dub reggae when it rains, hard techno when it is sunny, and
deep house/nu-jazz/broken beat/jazzy old skool hiphop when cute females
are visiting. Detroit techno fits in with about anything though, in my
opinion. It's not THAT melancholy, it's actually rather uplifting in my
opinion, just in a more realistic way, rather than a
fake/cheesy/corporate-manufactured/there-are-no-problems-in-the-world
way.

Well, the festival actually runs Sat - Monday... I'm going Monday so I'm
curious as to whether it will still rain that day or not.

Secondly, it rained all weekend last year if I remember correctly that
didn't exactly hamper attendence, did it? :) And even if the rain did
affect
attendance... the people that REALLY wanted to go would still be there in
 spite of the rain.

Myself, I plan on a windbreaker and an umbrella...

provisions/precautions have been or can be made for this?

Hart Plaza in the rain is not quite what you would expect. I anticipate
that IF one of the scattered showers hits downtown (and it's always an IF
this time of year) you will have a mix of people scurrying for cover, and a
few dedicated chin-strokers toughing it out (myself included). Never
underestimate the commitment of a glowstick-whirling teen to let it all hang
out in a storm.

How many times do you get the opportunity to get your groove on while Mother
Nature supplies the old-school ceiling drip?

Usually the artists are protected by tents/tarps, but the only place for
spectator cover is the Hart Plaza underground, good news for those booked in
that space. :) I imagine that Pop Culture is making arrangements for a
few tents around the main stages, but I'm not a spokesperson.
