RE: (313) Movement pictures @ TechnoTourist.org
I too didn't think much of Sims until the fourth time I heard him. I think sometimes you can hear a DJ a few times not hear them at their best. With Rolando I thought he was brilliant the first time I heard him, but I've heard him about four times since he's never been as good. My theory is that sometimes the DJs aren't really in the mood for it but they're getting paid so they come and do a job then go home - you've just gotta hope you catch them on a night where they really into it. The loop-based sets that Ben plays aren't really a good indication of his skills. His knowledge of electronic music is very wide and he is definitely one of the most technically skilled DJs on the circuit, but I agree that this doesn't make a whole set of loops very interesting. You should hear him play sometime when he's covering a broader range. It's incredible. http://www.bensims.com used to have some older mixes on it, including a 313-based one. A technicallyt skilled dj is not a good dj, i don't care if a dj misses a beat as longs as the music is good Ben Sims choice of records is way to boring for me :) KJ On vrijdag, jul 25, 2003, at 11:40 Europe/Amsterdam, Sean Creen wrote: The loop-based sets that Ben plays aren't really a good indication of his skills. i talked to john arnold on the last night of the fest. he was exhausted. he played at least 3 times at the fest- with beltran, ayro and ???, plus a few afterparties. I played my own set as wellthat's the third show. I would give the most performances award to Jared Sykes the percussionist. He played with: 1. me 2. Ayro 3. Beltran 4. Norma Jean Bell 5. Time:Space WOW! Thats a lot. Also, Amp was suppose play during my set, but got snatched up by Carl.and I was going to play guitar with him, but time started to become like a game of Tetrus when you are about to loose, so it did not happen. ciao, -john _ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

I've heard him 3 times now, twice at Retrovert once at Egg. The third time at Egg was the best of them all, lots off effects, tight mixing, a bit of scratching. cool pics - thanks for sharing those :) the pic Moodyman during the Three Chairs DJ set is neat (Sunday album) - was he wearing a mask or is that a shadow? lisa Hans Veneman wrote: OK, we're kind of late with this, but finally a big part of the pictures we took last may in Detroit are online now, including of course pictures of the Movement festival as well as the Techno Brings People Together event. Nope it is a mask Now i am wondering who played more during the festival, Ayro or John Arnold, these huys must have been running from one stage to the other, they were all over the place, not forgetting the afterparties they played to! Now i am wondering who played more during the festival, Ayro or John Arnold, these huys must have been running from one stage to the other, they were all over the place, not forgetting the afterparties they played to! I saw John Arnold just once (with John Beltran), but Ayro, Amp Fiddler and that percussionist were all over the festival the whole weekend. If they played for free the whole weekend they deserve a medal, although i think they might also enjoy playing live :) Hans -- Hans Veneman [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://technotourist.org

No? Was Jeremy Ellis also playing with the Detroit Experiment at one point? I can't recall. I know he was on the album but can't remember the set. Amp Fiddler certainly made his rounds too though! I think his live set was the top moment of the festival for me, matched only by Traxx at Cannonball. Oh, and re: Dwele, I thought he was great live! Jason, I think I know what you mean about his comfort levels, but I thought he did a great job of joking with the crowd in order to put himself at ease, etc. Plus, I was really surprised at how well it translated from such pristine studio production to a coherent live performance. Wicked! The live sets were certainly the highlight of the festival this year for me. Tristan === Text/Mixes/Pics: http://www.phonopsia.co.uk Music: http://www.mp313.com Contact: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
