Well, I can only speak for Monday since I decided not to stand in line
for an hour with a bunch of drunken idiots on Saturday night. And as
for Sunday I wasn't all that interested in paying $20 for the line-up.
However, Monday was amazing. I hung-out with fellow list member Drew D.
out of Minneapolis. We got there right when they opened the gate to
catch Carl's set. Although C2 didn't really put much effort into his
performance he dropped some great cuts and the sound was just right.
(By the way if anyone knows the last track that C2 dropped I would be
interested to know). After C2 we got out of the heat for a few minutes
and re-hydrated. When we returned for Louie Vega who was in the process
of putting together a flawless set of deep house--working with the same
great sound system C2 was on. Mr. V then came out and sang along with
his Giving You Something With Jazz. Next Blaze came on and did their
thing for about 30 - 45 minutes and were excellent and in great
spirits. The vibe was amazing with a very nice mix of people. We then
jumped over to the main stage to catch about an hour of Derrick's set.
Derrick was on his game and the sound was perfect. We then moved back
to the house stage where LV and Mr. V tag-teamed on about a dozen or so
disco edits and just having a total blast. After dancing non-stop for
about 5 hours we went to LaShish for grape leaf and hummus sandwiches.
What a great end to the festival for me.

As for the afterparties we went to the Soul Bomb party on Friday night,
where Malik Alston was definitely the highlight in my opinion. He did a
number called (I guess) I'm On My Way To Chicago ... which I can't get
that one out of my head. On Saturday night we went to the John Arnold /
Jeremy Ellis gig. Those guys were hotter than Hades--really tore it
up. From there we went over to Oslo to catch the last 15 minutes of
Shake's set. Left there and bumped into KDJ who we chatted-up for a
couple minutes--he's such a cool cat.

I don't know why people do 'test' posts. There are three reasons why
people's posts bounce:

1. You use an account other than the one subscribed to 313 to try and post.

2. You write something using a short list of US English profanity, the
name of a prominent auction website, and the names of a couple of
people who were banished forever from 313 years back.

3. You send message in any format other than good old 1976-vintage old
school plain text. Multipart Mime gets bounced. No you can't use
64-point fuschia banner texts in your post, just 8-bit ASCII.
Ümläüts, Tilde and Àccènt Grave are A-OK.

The DJ Kicks series put out by k7 have always been pretty good and diverse
IMO [which is nice] - Im quite a fan of the andrea parker one, although I
need to get my hands on that Stacey Pullen badboy at somepoint.

some nice techno on it. But they are moving more and more

Ah well..I really liked the Tiga and Playgroup remixes
(apparently the Playgroup mix came about after he was denied
use of the original for his Dj Kicks mix...and so just 're
interpreted' it in the studio himself) but I wasn't too keen
on the Ghost Cauldron or Princess Superstar stuff.

it is one of my favorite labels though...so I'm very bias :)

And yes, the online shop staff are great...although I have an
order thats 3 weeks late...I should really contact them

  Kev

I don't know, I was a bit disappointed with several of their more
   recent
releases, especially those most reprsented on said 2CD+DVD
comp, like they're trying to catch on the electro-clash wave
(Tiga, the Playgroup remix of Behind the wheel, Ghost
Cauldron, Princess Superstar) or noodly, jazzy trip-hop such
as Tosca... this being said, they've got a brilliant
catalogue, and the people at the online shop are incredibly nice !

back in later he picked things up a lot and it was really kicking :) [given
he was playing for 5hrs or something daft that was kinda fair enough]. I
also seem to remember that kraft kuts guy slicing up prodigy out of space

... I think my only real complaint was the fact that bottles of water were

Yep, came very near to drowning in mine / other peoples sweat at times :)

Sitting outside you could see the steam pouring out the entrances to each
warehouse building. Pretty nuts.

Well I missed LFO and Guy called G due to temperature overload / too
mullered to know what was on where but I have to say I was really
impressed
overall and it certainly kicked the [EMAIL PROTECTED] out of homelands. What
 I caught
of
Mills's set was very enjoyable - also sneak+carter back2back was great
[although the sound in that room wasn't the best] - groove armada seemed
to
play quite alot of old skool house which went down well. I wandered in
near
the start of Laurent Garniers set and wasn't too impressed, but when I
came
back in later he picked things up a lot and it was really kicking :)
[given
he was playing for 5hrs or something daft that was kinda fair enough]. I
also seem to remember that kraft kuts guy slicing up prodigy out of space
and lee perry chase the devil which was worth the money alone !!

... I think my only real complaint was the fact that bottles of water were
being confiscated on the door and the bar certainly wasn't cheap and also
used some crazy buy-in-advance 'bar token' system which was pretty
annoying.
Other than that for 30quid you cant really argue !

If anyones interested there are some pics I took of the eve at
http://www.tardis.ed.ac.uk/users/mbl/pics [you'll have to escuse the
randomness i.e. us in motorway service station the next morning pics etc
!]

Aye! unfortunately I had to remove my UR - Unexploitable top and suffice
with just my Jefferson Ave tee due to the crazy temperatures - luckily there
was an outside bit so sit and cool off in the breeze tho :)

It would be nice to see some more things like this - it made a nice change
that there was virtually no rubbish on the lineup including a complete
absence of radio1/trance bs :]

RE: (313) test

2003-08-28 Thread robin pinning

Was the Tribal Gathering thing any good??

it was ok

the sound was aweful tho in both rooms (the big one with no vents was ok
at the front where it was most hot)

mills was so-so (but flawless ironically, yeah he can't please anyone can
he :) ), but as i say i'm getting old and don't really dig that style
anymore (least not for long periods of time).

actually that's bollox, Bone rocked those kinda choons when i saw him and
i didn't complain then!

one gripe is that it was billed as an acid house event, with very little
acid house being played...

deep dish were the best thing on the bill that i saw (!)

Anything on !K7 is generally awesome...

k7.com for more stuff with a ton of real audio clips. They also let you
order some albums to download as mp3 which is pretty groundbreaking.

I got a promo of this and having listened to/watched it, I think it's
worth the money - a decent variety of tunes. I would totally buy it if I
 didn't already have it.

I don't know, I was a bit disappointed with several of their more recent
releases, especially those most reprsented on said 2CD+DVD comp, like they're
trying to catch on the electro-clash wave (Tiga, the Playgroup remix of Behind
the wheel, Ghost Cauldron, Princess Superstar) or noodly, jazzy trip-hop such
as Tosca... this being said, they've got a brilliant catalogue, and the people
at the online shop are incredibly nice !

Not to mention the Electro Boogie Series which you could pick up for 10UKP

Re: (313) test

Good question, because I don't support a lot of the new 313 and related
 music these days.
I guess I could cut and paste from a record stock list and say hey look at
 all the new 313 music
you people are not discussing but that wouldn't seem right.
In order for something like this to work someone who is familiar with all
 the new records
being released from Detroit labels and what the distributors are shipping
 should post this info
and not only the 313 label/ artist they like.

I don't agree.
I avidly read every record recco and review posted here and, especially when
i first signed up 3 years ago, i have never heard most of the artists that
get mentioned here. thats how i get schooled.
now if you can replicate that schooling by suggesting records you like and
reccommend this list will be even more interesting.
especially when you complain of the lack of coverage of certain 313
producers on this list.

fab.

Re: (313) test

2003-04-12 Thread Dan Sicko
In my opinion the elitist politics like on the 313 list are counter
 productive in generating a
 more wide scale interest in
 techno music.

For example, just by observing record store stock list that I'm subscribed to
 (I do not have
 accesses to distributor
stock list like many people here) I noticed there are a lot of 313 music from
 labels that do not
get discussed here or posted for review by the mailing list administrator.

Well, discuss it then! You don't have to wait for an admin to bring it
up --- why should you? Keeping this information to yourself smacks of
elitism in my book.
