[AI] Another Webinar on Writing like a pro

2020-08-29 Thread Akhilesh Malani
Hi All

My Friend L. Subramani is going to conduct one more webinar as part of
his series Writing like a pro and this time it's about Blogpost.

Please find the brief about it below:

What’s so great about a blogpost?

Several bloggers across the world are working hard to get a viral post
to get attention for their ideas, support for a cause or loyal
audience to promote their products.

Blogposts are written with a specific purpose in mind. They’re either
instructive, inspiring or entertaining. Like many writings blogposts
are not about you, it’s about people who come looking for something.

I’ve been writing blogs for nearly a decade now. I’ve written many
clap-worthy blogposts on medium.com besides having thousands of
followers on my own blog (http://grapplingwithrp.wordpress.com) where
several experiential blogposts on my blindness and life experiences
have garnered vast viewership. And if there’s one thing I’ve been
learning so diligently all these years, it’s how to write a viral
post. I’ve spent several hours, burning the midnight oil (with my
laptop on, of course) and I’ve got a bunch of things to share on viral
blogposts. I know you’re an avid blogger (or at least aspiring to be
one) and you wouldn’t like to miss it for the world.

I’m doing a webinar on writing viral blogposts on Saturday September
5, 2020 between 3 pm and 4 pm, in which I’ll be sharing the aspects of
a viral blog and also some tricks on doing the right kind of promotion
to give your blog a grand launch on the social media.

Click the below link to register for the webinar. It’s free and it’s
free only this once.

[AI] Survey to develop an understanding about how people with vision impairment perceive, experience and interpret Heritage sites

2018-12-19 Thread Akhilesh Malani
Dear Friends,

I have found this survey very interesting and have given my feed back too.
I feel everybody should fill this survey and help Kavita to raise
voice for making our Heritage places accessible and end user friendly.
I am forwarding this email on behalf of Kavita murugkar.
Please go through the message below and fill it.

Heritage is regarded as a Universal Cultural resource and many researchers
have studied and catalogued the potential benefits of heritage site visits
for all. However, social inclusion in heritage sites remains a key
challenge specially with respect to people with disabilities. For instance,
needs of people with visual impairments are not taken into consideration in
heritage conservation and management and they are excluded from
experiencing heritage, as it is generally assumed that they may not be able
to comprehend the built environment and architecture in a heritage site.
Such a viewpoint leads to attitudinal barriers which isolate the people
with vision impairment from the remaining world of sighted people.
To address this problem, an in-depth study is proposed to develop an
understanding about how people with vision impairments experience and
interpret heritage sites; understanding the meaning and significance of
heritage sites in their lives and how their experiences and needs can be
better understood for developing appropriate visitor and heritage
management strategies and related policy framework for achieving Social
Inclusion in heritage sites.
In order to make this investigation possible, I request your kind
co-operation to fill out an online survey that can be accessed by clicking

[AI] 11TH CAR RALLY FOR THE BLIND-2018 ORGANISED BY ROTARY BANGALORE ABILITIES

2018-07-22 Thread Akhilesh Malani
Dear EVERYONE:

Rotary Bangalore Abilities is glad to announce 11TH CAR RALLY FOR THE
BLIND-2018.

The details are:

You are on the wheel, but you wait for the PERSON in the passenger
seat to tell if you’ve to turn left or right at the junction.

Why? Because the person at the passenger seat is blind and he/she will
be reading out the route from the Braille map. Quite thrilling, right?

This’s all real and will be happening at the 11th Car Rally for the Blind-2018.

Date: Sunday, August 5, 2018

Time: 9 am

Venue: Vega City Mall, No, 172/1, Srinivas Industrial Estate,
Bannerghatta Road, Dollar Layout, BTM Second Stage, Bengaluru-560072.
(Opp Jayadeva circle)

If you have a car, any car, then register with us by sending a
WhatsApp message to: +91 6361668325
. Don’t worry if you don’t know the blind navigator, we will pair you
with one. Apart from the fun and excitement, you’ll feel fantastic
about working with a blind partner to be a champion in a race. Believe
us, no other sporting entertainment can give you the fun and add
meaning to a day.

The 11th Car Rally for the blind-2018 is Jointly organised by Rotary
Bangalore Abilities, 90degree (event manager) and Federation of Motor
Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).

This is also a way you support the cause of persons with disability.
After all, you would like all children with blindness and other
disabilities to be intelligent, bright and cheerful like your
navigator!

Here’re more details:

*Entry fee for the race is Rs 2750 per car.

There will be first three prizes in all categories.

Want to participate? Please WhatsApp to: +91 6361668325

Send the registration fee to: 90degree, 6422281998

Branch: Indian Bank, Bannerghatta Road

Account type: Current

IFSC Code: IDIB000B181

(Please mention your name at the comments line so that we could identify you)

*The blind is the navigator who gets the route map on the morning of
the rally in Braille. Driver will not know the route.

*The blind person reads out the route to the driver, who has to follow
the instructions from the navigator. This develops good coordination
between the driver and the navigator, a sporting and competitive
environment to get an understanding of how a blind person functions
and his strengths.

*Any home car, starting from a Maruthi Suzuki, could be used.

*This race is held in Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format, Which means
the instruction from the navigator also contains the speed limits the
driver has to maintain. The thrill and excitement of the race is that
it’s not entirely dependent on speed.

*Anyone with a good driving skill can be a part of the race.

*Have a car and want to be a part of the race? We will pair you up
with a navigator.

*Is this your first time? We’ll put you in the category of the first
timers so that you compete truly with your peers.

*Women drivers will be paired with women navigators if they prefer and
they would compete as a woman’s team category.

*Physically challenged people who drive special modified cars are a
different category of drivers who could pair up with a blind navigator
and be a part of the race.

*Rotary rural clubs are a special category by themselves.

Hello Sir,

Her query is how to scan and read Image from a PDF file.
There are some PDF files which has images and those Images has text.
She wants to know how to read that perticular text.
Abby fine reader only scanns text from the PDF file not from the Image
available in it.
I have tried to copy only the Image file but no success.
We need to take assistance of sighted person.
Once the Image got copied then we can scan and read the text using
ABBY Fine Reader.

2010-05-03 Thread Akhilesh Malani
One more information.

The cause for this issue is: the Oracle software got crashed.
Now you have to remove Oracle completely from your PC and reinstall it.

Remove Oracle using using either Universal uninstaller or using Revo
uninstaller.

Or

Search and Delete all Oracle entries in the registry and then delete
X:\Program Files\Oracle

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSeT\Servic
es\EventLog\Application\Oracle.oracle

* Delete
X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle - OraHome80

*Start-Run-Services.msc and see if any Oracle services are running
then disable it. Then find and delete the services entry from
registry:

[AI] Retina India Karnataka monthly networking/support group meeting for April

2010-03-31 Thread Akhilesh Malani
Dear All:

Retina India Karnataka will have its fourth networking meeting on April
3, 2010 Saturday. The topic of discussion will be around children with
low vision and visual impairment. The children are often left out of the
mainstream system or find it extremely harder to find themselves
accommodated in the schooling system. The nature of their disability is
such that it will be impossible to send them to special schools. This
meeting would examine the problem and come out with a document that
would provide a guideline for parents on what to do when schools are
hostile to their child and how to plan the education for the child.

We do not have a facilitator this time around, but would like to
brainstorm the subject and reate this document. Parents with
school/college going children, school administrators, teachers and
educators are invited to provide their valuable suggestions and
ccontribute to our initiative. Details of the meeting is given below:

Venue:

ThoughtWorks takes lead in organizing first 'RubyConf India'

-- Supported by Ruby Central, the first formal gathering of the Ruby
Community in India takes place in Bangalore --

Bangalore, India - 22nd February, 2010 - The Ruby Community in India is
excited to announce 'RubyConf India 2010' on Mar 20th and 21st at the
 Royal Orchid
Hotel in Bangalore. Spread over 2 days, 'RubyConf India 2010' will offer
Ruby enthusiasts an opportunity to network with key people in the
 international
Ruby community, learn about the latest technology changes first-hand and
deepen their expertise in the field. It will feature keynote addresses
 and talks
by the likes of Yukihiro Matz Matsumoto (the creator of Ruby himself
will speak via a video call), Chad Fowler (author of The Passionate
 Programmer),
Obie Fernandez (pioneering Rails developers and author of The Rails
Way), Ola Bini (core committer on JRuby since 2004) and Nick Sieger of
 Engine Yard
 and JRuby fame.

Taking the lead in organizing and sponsoring this event is ThoughtWorks
Technologies, a leading global IT consultancy specializing in Global
 Distributed
Agile delivery. Co-sponsored by Castle Rock Research Corporation,
Mahaswami Software and US based Hashrocket, this first of its kind
 conference will draw
active participation and sponsorship from the Ruby ecosystem in India
and is made possible by a grant from Ruby Central Inc - a non-profit
 organization
in the USdedicated to the support and advocacy of the Ruby programming
 language across the globe.

An emerging technology that promises to revolutionize the way software
is developed, Ruby is an open source, dynamic programming language that
 runs natively
on Linux, Windows and Mac OS. It runs on the Java and .Net platforms as
JRuby and IronRuby respectively. It offers an ideal development
 environment for
Agile practitioners with one of the most active open source communities
worldwide which produce and support tools and projects like Ruby on
 Rails - a
powerful web application development framework that significantly
reduces time-to-market and is used by top web companies like Twitter and
 Shopify.

Chad Fowler, Co-Director of Ruby Central, Ruby enthusiast and author of
books such as The Passionate Programmer and My Job went to India had
 this to
say about the event - As a one-time expatriate living in Bangalore,
Ruby and India are two of my greatest passions. It's wonderful to see
 Ruby and Rails
spread into India. Adoption of leading edge agile technologies such as
these is crucial to the continued success of India as an IT services
 provider and
innovator. This event is a major step in spreading the productivity and
joy of Rails development into the Indian IT industry.

A strong supporter of open-source emerging technologies and a pioneer
in the Agile method of global software delivery, ThoughtWorks has
 consistently participated
in Ruby conferences and other related events across the globe. This year
it instituted the Innovation Technology Trust, a public non-profit
 with the
objective of providing a support system and networking between
professionals in the field of emerging technologies and open-source by
 bringing them together
during workshops, seminars, conferences. Ruby Central has been hosting
International Ruby Conferences around the world since 2002 and more
 recently instituted
a Regional Grants Program to support conferences at a regional level.
These two institutions have now come together to host the first RubyConf
 India in
2010 which will feature distinguished practitioners and thought leaders
from the global Ruby Community and cater to the needs of the growing and
 talented
 Ruby community in India.

Explaining the rationale for ThoughtWorks organising 'RubyConf India
2010', Mahesh Baxi Managing Director ThoughtWorks India said Open
 Source software
is here to stay and ThoughtWorks has been an active contributor,
supporter and user of Open Source software like Java, Ruby JRuby.

RubyConf India 2010 was sold out within the first 5 days of opening
registrations! Says spokesperson for the event Sidu Ponnappa, The fact
 that RubyConf
India was sold out in just five days is a strong indicator of the change
that is occurring in the Indian software industry. We're seeing the
 beginnings
of a shift from conservative, bread and butter development that we've
been doing for the last two decades to the more exciting and challenging
 world of
high-end engineering that has traditionally been considered the preserve
of the first-world. The organizers have increased capacity since then
 to allow
more enthusiasts to make the most of this opportunity. Keep an eye out
 for more information

Re: [AI] System Access To Go

2010-01-28 Thread Akhilesh Malani
Hi to all,

Here is the info below.

Basically Serotek announced system access to go. With SATOGO you can
walk up to any computer that is hooked up to the internet and has
sound and have access
to Serotek system access simply by typing in the address
www.satogo.com from the run dialog on the computer. Once you hit enter
within seconds SATOGO will
announce itself on the computer and audibly take you through loggin in
and running the system access program. Once you login you have
complete access to
the computer that you are on without having to bring any screen
readers with you.

I think this is revolutionary. It will benefit any blind computer user
regardless as to what screen reader they currently use. You will have
total freedom
and access to any computer anywhere now. A huge leap in accessibility for us.

Currently SATOGO is free while it is in beta and will be able to be
purchased either monthly or annually at affordable rates once it goes
pay. Serotek
stated that SATOGO would be free for some time to come though, so this is great.

Hope this info has answered your Query.
