Re: [AI] need to modify the accessindia mailing rules
Hi, from this reply, it seems that, some of our learned members could not been able to understand the points. I did not discuss regarding the topic. I wanted to point out regarding the notion of some of our members, who posts bulk of mails and replies without any relevance very often. It is our duty to make the list more meaningful or more useful. We have, in our busy life don't want to see the mails which contains the matters like unwanted and vogus criticism individual grudges or posting false mails blaming other members. Some of our members post bulk mails which also prevent our interest to open the list and read important mails also. It sometimes did not help us to find the valuable suggestions from our members.Due to these acts some important topics are also missed out.Off topic mails also decrease our interest regarding this list. I don't want to tell of policing, but in democratic way we can vote to improve the quality of list. If we do so, we can make this list more relevant and acceptable to us. Hope, you will understand my point. Regards. [AI] need to modify the accessindia mailing rules
Hi All, specially the moderator, by seeing the bulk members and some of their useless mails, I would like to suggest you to make some limitations and frame a revised guidelines to post the messages of members. I think that, this is a very useful platform of sharing our views regarding related issues of blind and blindness. But I am very sorry to say that, some of our members are not serious of abiding these guidelines and expending the list by posting errelevant mails or quarelling with other members. So, seeing this, I would like to suggest that, the moderator should take some diciplinery action against those members who are not serious of writing mails, and post vogus mails. The moderator can add a section and can invite positive and negative views of members who are serious/not serious and make errelevant posts or post errelevant topics rather than posting useful topics. The members may have some voting options also. In this way, a members rating can be done by the members in respect of their relevance. In this way you can classify a member and you can strike out the membership of those members who are harmful for this platform. Sir, please, do this to make the list more meaningful. Regards. [AI] How to get hassel free personal lone?
Hi friends, Hope, you all are doing well. Friends, I would like to know regarding how to get personal lone in market interest without any harassment? Very often we need very small amount like 5 or 1.0 or 2.0 to meet our various important requirements. The nationalised banks often demands that, the borrower should submit a declaration from his/her employer that he should recover the balance amount of lone if he/she fails to repay it. But, the employer did not give this declaration in favour of its employee. In case of private banks like ICICI bank, city bank or HDFC bank, they check various points like sibil credit score or other points, some of these are unknown to us. The private banks always give a condition that, "lones are self discretion of the bank." I had applied for a personal lone last year from ICICI bank. My salry is deposited in this bank. But for unknown reasons the application has been rejected. I have tried to know the cause of rejection but I could not been able to know what is my fault. In recent past, I did not borrow any personal lone from any bank. This is a problem of concern for the small earning persons like me. If anyone help me I will be highly benefitted. Sometimes, I experience that, some banks did not give us lone because of our blindness, but they deny the fact in writing. I think so because, when I say that, I am a blind person, then the concerned officer of the bank tries to avoid the conversation. Please, do something to enable us to get personal lones from the banks to do our important works. Thousands of blind persons like me will be benefitted from this action. Regards. Re: [AI] help neded to getting the a t m card from state bank of india
Hi, State banks employees and other banks employees of govt. sector must be trained regarding the facilities which are available for visually impaired persons. Recently I have applied for new pin from SBI, but they are telling me that, they need an witness to deliver the same to me. He/she must be an account holder of the same branch. My question is, when I have already declared that, "they have no liability" then why an witness is needed? If concerned friends can run awareness drives, it will definitely help the blind consumers as well as bank employees of various Indian banks. Regards. [AI] details of complaining authority needed
Hi friends, Hope, you all are doing well. I need help regarding Delhi Transport Corporation. 1. I need the details of complaining authority of operation of buses in a particular route. Can I present myself to make complains? What is the procedure? 2. Can I meet the Chairman of DTC to make complains if the problem is unsolved? Actually I am a passenger of route no. 374 the service of route is very poor. I have tried to make complains through RTI's. The problem was solved for sometime but the service became poor again. Can you suggest some alternative and effective suggestions in this regard? If you can help me I can be able to fight against this unnecessary harassment. Regards. Yours sincerely,Amarnath De. First of all, you should make clear in which bank you are holding the account. If you state this clear you can get more accurate suggestion. If you are facing severe difficulties you can lodge a complain against that particular bank. But you should write at least three communication to your particular bank before making complain to RBI. Re: [AI] today is the 150th birth anniversary of rabindhranath tagore
Hi, I have read this very good mail. But Ravindranath's birthday is not today but 9th of May. (Bengali 25th Baisakh). Regards. -- From: "Srinivas Karnati" Sent: Saturday, June 18, 2011 6:02 PM To: Subject: [AI] today is the 150th birth anniversary of rabindhranath tagore today is the 150th birth anniversary of rabindhranath tagore Greatest writer in modern Indian literature, Bengali poet, novelist, educator, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. Tagore was awarded the knighthood in 1915, but he surrendered it in 1919 as a protest against the Massacre of Amritsar, where British troops killed some 400 Indian demonstrators protesting colonial laws. Tagore's reputation in the West as a mystic has perhaps mislead his Western readers to ignore his role as a reformer and critic of colonialism. "When one knows thee, then alien there is none, then no door is shut. Oh, grant me my prayer that I may never lose touch of the one in the play of the many." (from Gitanjali) Rabindranath Tagore was born in Calcutta in a wealthy and prominent Brahman family. His father was Maharishi Debendranath Tagore, a religious reformer and scholar. His mother Sarada Devi, died when he was very young - her body carried through a gate to a place where it was burned and it was the moment when he realized that she will never come back. Tagore's grandfather had established a huge financial empire for himself, and financed public projects, such as Calcutta Medical College. The Tagores were pioneers of Bengal Renaissance and tried to combine traditional Indian culture with and Western ideas. However, in My Reminiscenes Tagore mentions that it was not until the age of ten when he started to use socks and shoes. Servants beat the children regularly. All the children contributed significantly to Bengali literature and culture. Tagore, the youngest, started to compose poems at the age of eight. He received his early education first from tutors and then at a variety of schools. Among them were Bengal Academy where he studied Bengali history and culture, and University College, London, where he studied law but left after a year without completing his studies. Tagore did not like the weather. Once he gave a beggar a gold coin - it was more than the beggar had expected and he returned it. In England Tagore started to compose the poem Bhagna Hridaj (a broken heart). In 1883 Tagore married Mrinalini Devi Raichaudhuri, with whom he had two sons and three daughters. He moved to East Bengal in 1890. His first book, a collection of poems, appeared when he was 17; it was published by Tagore's friend who wanted to surprise him. In East Bengal (now Bangladesh) he collected local legends and folklore and wrote seven volumes of poetry between 1893 and 1900, including Sonar Tari (The Golden Boat), 1894 and Khanika, 1900. This was highly productive period in Tagore's life, and earned him the rather misleading epitaph 'The Bengali Shelley.' More important was that Tagore wrote in the common language of the people and abandoned the ancient for of the Indian language. This also was something that was hard to accept among his critics and scholars. In 1901 Tagore founded a school outside Calcutta, Visva-Bharati, which was dedicated to emerging Western and Indian philosophy and education. It became a University in 1921. He produced poems, novels, stories, a history of India, textbooks, and treatises on pedagogy. His wife died in 1902, followed in 1903 by the death of one of his daughters and in 1907 his younger son. Tagore's reputation as a writer was established in the United States and in England after the publication of Gitanjali: Song Offerings, in which Tagore tried to find inner calm and explored the themes of divine and human love. The poems were translated into English by Tagore himself. His cosmic visions owed much to the lyric tradition of Vaishnava Hinduism and its concepts about the relationship between man and God. The poems appeared in 1912 with an introduction by William Butler Yates, who wrote "These lyrics - which are in the original, my Indians tell me, full of subtlety of rhythm, of untranslatable delicacies of colour, of metrical invention - display in their thought a world I have dreamed of all my life long." His poems were praised by Ezra Pound, and drew the attention of the Nobel Prize committee. "There is in him the stillness of nature. The poems do not seem to have been produced by storm or by ignition, but seem to show the normal habit of his mind. He is at one with nature, and finds no contradictions. And this is in sharp contrast with the Western mode, where man must be shown attempting to master nature if we are to have "great drama." (Ezra Pound in Fortnightly Review, 1 March 1913) However, Tagore also experimented with poetic forms and these works have lost much in translations into other languages. Especially Tagore's short st

Re: [AI] About Internet on C5.
Hi, You cannot substitute broad band with GPRS. 1. If you take a plan rather than paying normal GPRS it cost less. 2. There is a difference of speed between 2G and 3G. 3G has more speed rather than 2G. 3. These plans, I think, cannot replace broadband. It is portable and you can use internet anywhere you like if you use internet through mobile. The speed of broad band is more faster than GPRS. And it is cost effective also. This Intex Mobile seems to be more or like several other Spice phones which have been already ostracized by visually impaired users. It is good that Mr. Jha of Intex has shown the interest to sale their products in association with NAB and other organizations but again, Intex and any other company officials, who are willing to manufacture Mobile for VI's, are advised to first liaise with our organizations in order to know the technical and other requirement of a VI user and then produce the final product. I appreciate their innitiative, but in my personal opinion, this Mobile Set is not going to be of that mutch of use of visually impaired users. Frankly speaking, I think, those who prefer to use a phone with English speech, at least, most of them prefer to use some sort of web browsing, GPS, music etc. Since off late, even data charges are slowly coming down, perhaps, most people love to use them. Hi Harish, I have experienced the sensus data collection process on 12/02/2011. the folks came. We have heard from several channels that, computers, refrigerators, mobile connection etcetera will be counted. But I did not experienced such data collection. The person came to me said that, government has instructed that, the children below 6 years will be counted as illiterate. Yes, the handicapped persons are being counted. But no details more than type and onset are counted. and moreover, this data will be not used for UID purpose the person said. So I could not understand what is the benefit of UID? Re: [AI] UID number and inclusion of Disability?
If UID cannot serve our purpose then what is the need of it? The government is misusing our income and giving our earned money to its agency and generating income for some persons for meaningless purpose. Dear Harish, Sadly that is not so. Its not only "for the disabled" but of the disabled also wanting this. The degree of social acceptance of different disabilities is different and this is a harsh truth. While those with visual impairments may be keen in getting their disability included on UID but those with few other disabilities have not been comfortable in declaring the same on the face of it for the fear of discrimination and other obvious reasons. Another reason that I see is that not all disabilities enumerated in the PWD Act have got benefited from being declared as a Person with disability except few. Thus for them, including it on the UID carries no benefit. On the contrary, they fear this might lead to discrimination. May be UID representatives/Mr. Asif could answer the specific reason as to why this was dropped and what can be done to salvage it at least for those who are willing and want to include this. regards 29 January 2011 11:14, Harish Kotian wrote: Dear Vashisht In my opinion, it will be those "for the disabled" who would be opposing inclusion of disability in the UI Card. In the banks though the problem has to some extent solved instead of a few instances, but when we use LTI in our demat accounts of for purchasing of mutual funds/bonds the banks demands attestations of LTI's through notaries. No other authorities are valid to attest the LTI including gazzeted officers. In my view it is an unnecessary harassment and unnecessary wastage of money. Because in Delhi the notaries charge RS. 20-50 per attestation. And in forms of mutual funds/bonds there is more than 4-5 signatures. So it costs 100-250 rupees to complete a form. If we go to make some correction like address, spelling of names or email etcetera then also they demands attestation by banks. The bank says the rules has been formed by sebi and they have nothing to do. Now my question is: why the attestation by the gazzeted officers are not valid? Is it not encourages the unfair trade practice by the notaries? is there no option? I think when a person has been introduced by the bank, there is no need of such troublesome process. Many of you know that my work requires a lot of travel both inside India and to other parts of the world. The fact is that I could not do my job if I lived in North America. Why? Because there is inadequate transport and I don't drive. America is a country in love with its cars and the transport infrastructure reflects this. Even in the largest cities on the east coast it would be difficult or impossible to do the kind of work I do because there is inadequate transport. America is set up for people who drive. India on the other hand, is set up for people who don't drive. Even with the increase in the amount of vehicles on the roads today, the infrastructure of trains, buses and rickshaws remains intact. There is a culture of public transport. Everyone uses it except the very wealthy. In America most people who use public transport are the poor and those who have lost their driving license because of drunk driving. Although in cities like New York, Boston and Washington this is not as much the case, there is no arguing the fact that America is geared to those who drive. So what does that mean in a practical sense? In America where a blind person can live is limited by the availability of public transport unless they make a choice to ask others for rides all the time. It means a blind person's work location is also limited by the availability of transport unless he wants to depend on co-workers or taxis which are extremely expensive. It also means that a blind person's social life is limited by these same factors unless he is accompanied by a sighted friend or relative. In most places in the US, using public transportation is not a viable option if one is seeking equality in the ability to move about in society. When a blind person in the west encounters some blind person from India or another developing country and that person has an assistant with them, some look upon this with scorn. They observe that the blind person allows the assistant to make decisions for them and is not in control of how the assistant actually empowers that blind person to do his job more effectively. But others look upon this with curiosity and some envy. In America, one can not choose whether or not to travel with an assistant. There are none. One either does the thing himself or it doesn't get done at all. One advantage we have here is that we can choose whether or not to seek assistance and we can govern how that assistance is ut

[AI] Fw: BPA Demands 1% Reservation for Sightless Candidates in the Recruitment of Primary Teachers in West Bengal.
From: amarnath de Sent: Thursday, July 01, 2010 9:04 PM To: say everything Cc: amarnath.de...@hotmail.com Subject: Fw: BPA Demands 1% Reservation for Sightless Candidates in the Recruitment of Primary Teachers in West Bengal. - Original Message - From: Blind Persons' Association To: Undisclosed-Recipient:; Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 2010 9:26 PM Subject: BPA Demands 1% Reservation for Sightless Candidates in the Recruitment of Primary Teachers in West Bengal. Today Blind Persons' Association organised a rally at Salt Lake in Kolkata protesting against denial of reservation in the recruitment process of primary teachers by Shri Partha De, the Education Minister of West Bengal. About a hundred sightless persons from various districts including the remote Coochbihar marched from Karunamayee to the Ministry's office at Bikash Bhawan shouting their demands. The Minister did not meet the delegation in spite of prior intimation. Shri Partha De, the Education Minister, recently said to the press that there is no provision of reservation for totally sightless persons in the posts of primary teachers. It is not clear how he came to this absolutely unjustified and unfounded conclusion. Section 33(I) of the Persons With Disability Act, 1995 states in unequivocal terms, "Every appropriate Government shall appoint in every establishment such percentage of vacancies not less than three per cent. For persons or class of persons with disability of which one per cent each shall be reserved for persons suffering from Blindness or low vision; ... " The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment recommends in one of its notification the post of primary teacher as a suitable job for both blind and low vision persons on the basis of a survey by an expert committee. Visually handicapped candidates are allowed 1% reservation in the posts of all teachers including primary teachers by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. There are instances of visually handicapped teachers serving in primary schools in West Bengal. The Education Ministry of the state ignored the legal provision right from the very beginning. The initial advertisement published in the Anandabazar Patrika, dated August 30, 2009 did not mention anything as regards reservation of 1% posts for visually handicapped persons. The Association wrote to West Bengal Board of Primary Education in October, 2009 demanding reservation of posts as per law. As a result visually handicapped candidates were allowed to appear at the examinations held for recruitment of primary teachers in some districts. Many visually handicapped candidates passed these examinations. In consequence of the Ministry's ignoring this legal provision, many district Boards of Primary Education have refused appointment to 100% visually handicapped candidates in spite of their fulfilling requisite qualification. Nadia District Board of Primary Education has gone an extra step forward. They refused to issue admit cards to any visually handicapped candidate in defiance of all rules and conventions. When the worried candidates went BarnaParichay Bhawan at Krishnanagar to ask for their bona fide admit cards on June 24, 2010, the last date of issuing admit cards, Shri Manik Maitra, the Chairman, drove them out of the office with the help of police. Neither the Board officials nor the police (both instruments of a democratic government) spared the helpless visually handicapped examinees. Some of them were women. The police used abusive and insulting words. They manhandled them so roughly that some of them fell on the road. Their only crime was that they asked for admit cards. It is evident from the Minister's comments in the aforesaid news that he came to learn of the entire incident. Yet he did not take any measure to make arrangements for issuing admit cards to the visually handicapped candidates. The examination for recruiting primary teachers for Nadia was held as per schedule on 27.06.2010 without the hapless visually handicapped examinees. The rally demanded that Shri Partha De, the Education Minister, must withdraw his statement (published in the Anandabazar Patrika of June 25, 2010) that "there is no provision of reservation for totally sightless persons in the posts of primary teachers". A copy of the Minister's statement was burned during the demonstration as a form of protest. They demanded 1% reservation of posts for visually handicapped applicants in the recruitment of primary teachers. Shri Buddhadev Sikdar, General Secretary of Blind Persons' Association, in his address to the gathering announced that they would launch a protest movement to achieve their rights. . Re: [AI] Cheque book with thumb impression
well, you are right at all. But in my view if customer is agreed that, if he sign all the cheques in the book and gives efedebit, bank manager can attest the cheque book. because, customer is giving efedebit that, he will take all responsibility if the cheque book is lost or miss used. Most of the banks are not agreed in this point. With regards. Amarnath De. -- From: "Asudani, Rajesh" Sent: Tuesday, June 01, 2010 5:35 PM To: Subject: Re: [AI] Cheque book with thumb impression Well, such a checkbook as you mention cannot be issued until biometric verification or some such system comes into vogue in banking. It was thought to happen in 2009 itself by some, however, still there are no signs of its widespread prevalence in India. However, in the interim period, I can perceive no reason why the thumb impression should not be countersigned by Bank manager at the time of issuance of checkbook. It would protect the bankers against any check fraud, entailing the safe keep of the checkbook upon the VI customer. Anyway a customer has to keep the checkbook safely, so why VIs are shying away from it? Even if it is lost, stop payment instructions can be given promptly to the bank. If we are to have certain rights, we should be prepared to undertake the responsibilities as well. If biometric system is after all adopted, then it would be a different story altogether, as not only blind, but every one may be required to affix thumb impression!!! So they cannot issue cheque book to people who do not sign. One of our recent callers from Bahadurgarh, has account in SBI. Fortunately his manager was open enough to patiently listen to him and then to us on phone, he also read the circulars. Expressing the same incapacity, the manager asked us if there anybody so enjoying a cheque book facility, he would like to learn how is it works. If any one in your personal list to whom you send files very often, then go to your drop box account and make a share folder and send this folder to desired person from that sight. if you paste the desired file in it, this will be downloaded to the concerned person's computer automatically when he/she will be connected to internet. He is totally blind and uses Braille for his personal works apart from computer. He wants to learn Tamil Braille that he can keep notes. Can you help? I think, a good Braille primer or an equivalent will do for a start. If I get the address, it can be purchased. Still there will remain the problem of pronunciation or identification of the Braille characters. In that case, I would like request my Tamil friends to volunteer. I can give the learner his or her cell number so that he can talk to him if necessary. With Best regards, Amiyo Biswas. Re: [AI] Fwd: Voice Recordings of Swami Vivekananda
Hi! don't be disappoint. Ramakrishna mission is a authentic source as per my knowledge. so we cannot ignore it. you can get a book in Braille from the regional Braille press, Ramakrishna mission, Narendrapur, Kolkata--700016 named "POWERS OF MINDS" in which you can get full version of the original text of Chicago speech. this book is cost very nominal. if any of you are interested, you can get it from the above address. with regards. I imagined some sort of spiritual power listening to that weenie voice which I thought was Swamiji's. We often speak of hoaxes; this takes the cake. But, is there a possibility of such audio recording existing even without the knowledge of the Ramakrishna Mutt? Being blind makes us visualise so many things and the voice, which was certainly so soothing, doesn't exactly sound like a hoax!! After consulting his senior colleagues, he told me almost the samething. There is no authentic documentation to prove that SwamiVivekananda's Chicago speech was recorded. The speech we come across recently is not in Vivekananda's voice. With Best regards, Amiyo Biswas.
