Dear friends,

Is there anyone in this group who is living in Jogeshwari Mumbai. and is in
touch with junior college students?

There is a student with learning disability whos board exam starts
tomorrow and  has not found a writer yet.

Need someone  below 12 grade to write.

Hi Sonu,
My friend Jayanthi, who lives in Chennai, has reached out to Rashmi. I
believe for now her accommodation is sorted out and also probably she got
some help on installation of the software. Jayanthi, has shared her number
with Rashmi. She can reach out to her if needs any help while in Chennai.

Hello list members,

I am Sonu Pereira here, if possible kindly revert. As mentioned  urgent
help required for my friend Rashmi who is completely visually impaired. She
has moved from Calcutta to Chennai for an internship. She had looked for a
place before she moved there however on reaching the owner of the
accommodation is not ready to give as she is visually impaired and a girl.
So she is looking an accommodation that is safe as she doesn't want to miss
this internship opportunity. Money shouldn't be a big problem but she is
looking for a safe accommodation.

She is also facing some technical issues with regards to NBTA and Team
viewer. Hence if someone who is good at this front, please connect with her

Dear All,

I am working in Corporation Bank, Head Office at Mangalore

Bank has recently upgraded the Bank's EPBX which is now operated
through computer. One of my partly sited Coleagues who is a telephone
operator is unable to operate to EPBX after its upgradation recently.
The new EPBX details are as under:-

Details of EPABX is

Siemens ACVIN IP MQ V2R4_4_0 Part No. P30152-P1110-P20

Now she is unable to view the details of incomming call number and
caller details as the font is very small.  Consequently her day to day
functioning of EPBX is adversely affected.

Also, the Telephone line call output is through USB head phones
connected to the computer.

It will be great help if anyone can answer the following queries:-

1.   Inbuilt TTS in Siemens EPBX

2.   Increasing font size in Siemens EPBX

3.   Compatibility of JAWS with EPBX.

4. Compatibility of Magic with EPBX

5. Any other solution

has any one used linux?
One of the companies in bangalore wants to give laptop to blind
students of 10th grade.
they have their own operating system which is based on Linux.
it works exactly like windows.
I wanted to know few things:
1. is linux accessible ?
2. is Orca the only free screen  reader for Linux?
3. what other softwares are  available for blind  apart from screen
reader for linux?
4. can you give me feed back about orca's accessibility?
5. won't memorizing commands for linux and Orca be challenging?
6. are  many blind people using linux? (any global statistics would be great)
I am suppose to give feedback by tomorrow so kindly reply as soon as possible.
I have not used linux much so any feed back on accessibility of linux
would be great.

[AI] urgent help required for this irritating problem

Hi.
On my laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate I am recently encountering a
very annoying problem. Let me explain the problem in detail.
For e.g. I have a folder inside which there is a subfolder inside
which there is in turn another subfolder.
I open the original folder normally.
Then I press Enter on a subfolder inside it. The subfolder opens as
another window.
Inside that subfolder there is another subfolder. I click on that and
it opens in a new window again.
Inside that I find my desired file which opens as a new window as
well, but normally.
After I have got the file loaded and I press Alt Tab I have to close
so many unwanted windows. I only press Enter but it opens as a new
window somehow.
Any solutions?
I would appreciate any assistance.

Hi,
press the start button. in the search edit field, type folder options
without the quotes. use the arrow key to select the open each folder in the
same window radio button checked, and press tab to locate the OK button and
press enter.

hi, go to computer or the control panel,
find  folder options,  and on the general tab, see what option you
have selected?
Open each folder in the same window?

or Open each folder in its own window?
if the first  one is selected, you wont face multypul windows.  most
probably you have selected the second  option and this is causing the
problem.

footnotes. There is a gap between two footnotes, check it whether you
are able to remove the gap of line between two footnotes?

Why don't you insert end notes instead of footnotes? I hope there are
no issues with Jaws while inserting end notes. But your research
supervisor must purmit you to do so.

In word 2003 I can use the f6 key to move between the document pane and the 
footnote pane. Once in the footnote pane I can use arrow keys to navigate 
and edit text.


However, it does not seem to work in word 2007. Here and also in word 2003, 
I can reach the footnotes in the print layout view. In this view go to the 
end of the page containing the footnote.


Now press down arrow and you will find the footnotes. You can edit and 
format text here also.


It is a bit tricky. It needs trial and error method.

Hi learned members I am writing my dissertation these days, while
working on MS word both 2003/2007 I am facing various problems .
Please guide me upon the following issues to resolve this trouble.
1. What is the key combination for doing selected words into small if
those are in capital?
2. Is there any way for selecting whole sentence?
3. I am facing lot of problems while working on footnotes. after
insurting footnotes, there is a gap of one or two lines between each
footnote or after two or three footnotes? I don't know how this gap
can be removed as I am unable to remove this gap by pressing back
space key after selecting the blank space between two footnotes.
4. I want to copy and paste a document from one place to another
specially as unformatted text, so that I could format it as according
to me, but by pasting specially as unformatted text, the footnotes of
copied documents are being removed and only the text is being pasted,
please help me in this regard as how can I paste the document
specially as unformatted text so that the footnotes also could be
pasted.
5. When ever I am in the area of footnotes for editing  it, the jaws
works very slow, it responds very late, what is the problem?

Was the post reserved for blind or only for low vision?
If it was reserved for blind, then nobody can ask you to read newspapers.
In case it was reserved only for low vision, we have to challenge such 
restrictive reservation, as the post of LDC has been identified suitable for 
blind/low vision vide list of identified jobs published by Central government 
in 2007, and state governments cannot take away from it.
In any case, approach commissioner disabilities of your state,  if you think 
she/he does any work, or else approach high court with a good advocate..

wrote the exam with the help of the scribe allowed for me. Due to the

to attend many questions in the exam.  Even though, I secured 35 marks
in the exam and thereby attained a place in the special probability
list for physically handicapped, published by the Thrissur District
PSC office. As a result, I received a letter from Psc to attend the
certificate verification and suitability test on 23/03/2012 in the
District PSC office, Thrissur. PSC conducted the suitability test by
way of giving news paper to read head lines. And I was asked to read
some of the head lines with fond sizes not accessible for me and I
failed to do it. At the time of suitability test I was informed that I
was not eligible for the prescribed post due to my low eye sight.

On 30.3.2012, KPSC published the rank list for the same with 28
partially blind persons and by avoiding 3 visually challenged persons
from the short list. Thus, I have been denied the right to be in the
rank list. If I will be in the rank list I will be in the 6th place
among the 28 blind persons in the rank list. Now the marks of last
candidate in the partially blind category in the rank list is minus 1.
Even though I had acquired 35 marks, I was denied the place in the
rank list and thereby also the job opportunity, because of my low eye
sight. The recruitment is for the various departments of the Kerala
Government, there are many vacancies.

I would like to know whether is there any job other than clerical work
under the lower division clerk category. If so, please do mention
whether I am eligible for this job. So please provide me with the
necessary guideline to follow in this regard.

As the rank list has been already published on 30th march 2012, I
expect speedy valuable responses from all respected members of this
list.

There is no any particular remarksabout PH and the percentage of
disability in the notification . The only remark is about the age
relaxation of PH.
While filling online application we have to answer a question as follows:
11.  Are you entitled to weightage / Priority being
Sportsman/Ex-serviceman/Physically Handicapped?
Give details

To answer the above question we can put check mark the item:
BLIND/DEAF/DUMB

If the notification is necessary, I will send to your personal Id.

Hello,
Approach the HC and try to get stay order on the recruitment.
Meanwhile, you can approach the CCPD and collect relevant
notifications and judgments pertaining to the eligibility of full
blind for the particular post.
Another thing you can do to ask KPSC for clarifying the actual
eligibility criteria in the case of VI candidate through RTI
application.

[AI] Urgent help required in Internet Explorer

Dear friends,

From morning, I am facing strange problem in Internet Explorer. I am
not able to visit any website excluding Google and Gmail. When I visit
other websites, the message appears Internet Explorer cannot display
the webpage. I done what I know to fix the problem including deleting
browsing history - cookies, passwords, form data, temporary internet
files, History and in private filtering data but no success. I also
reset my internet settings in Advance tab. When all attempts fail, I
re-install Internet Explorer in my system. But this also doesn’t work.
Now tell me how do I fix this? Please don’t give suggestion of
repairing/re-installing windows because I know this is the final
solution. Want to try other solutions if available.

We have to setup a self running demo on a USB drive so when a customer
inserts the USB, the demo starts running automatically. Since
AUTORUN.INF only works with CD-ROMs and does not work on USBs on
XP/Vista/7, the only alternative is the Software utilities like
SamLogic-

Since this is a bit expensive for this type of one off requirement, I am
posting this question to the group Have anyone of you come across this
kind of requirement. Do you know a similar software utility (cheaper
than $99 or free utilities) available for this? 

Beware - there are a lot of misleading search results returned on Google
that sound like a solution but they are utilities on local machine that
make a USB drive run using its autorun.inf.

I use MS Outlook 2003 for connecting to my office exchange server and only use

1. A webcam has a very narrow field of view.
2. The resolution is very poor.
3. Webcams do not come with OCR.

The closest you can come to realtime scanning and reading is to look at
camera scanning appliances.

I think, webcam camera has extremely poor resolution, and is unsuitable for 
OCR. It's not even close to useable, unless you can get it to focus on 
individual words that fill the frame.

I have upgraded to firefox 6 and JAWS 12.0.58 and I am facing a peculiar 
problem:  I have kept JAWS option to recognize all graphics and there are

but although internet explorer does allow me to read those buttons firefox does 
not even show them.  Please help.  How do I overcome this difficulty?   If I

Please check for any excel file association for example taking data from
other file-input or output for other files or some formulas are
preventing your task, you need to know complete association of file to

One of my visually impaired friends here is appearing for rajasthan
state civil services examination is a bit less then in age from the
minimum stated date in the advertise.

The advertise states:
“Age Limit : 21-35 years as on 1/1/2011”.

This person has passed graduation, which is the minimum qualification
for the exam, but he is not completing his 21 years of age upto
1/1/2011.
(he completes his 21 years in the month of febuary though).

While they state that there is a relaxation of 5 years for PWD
candidates, is he eligible for giving the exam?

What I know, the relaxation most of the times is referred to upper
age, but not the lower.

Experts on the list are requested  to kindly tell, if the person is
eligible for the exam or not.

Though he has already filled the form for the examination, but is not
sure whether or not he will be receiving the call letter.

Can you please  guide me about what should he do?
Since the exam is in the month of September, he wants to concentrate
on preparations only if he is eligible for it. He will try to explore
some other options otherwise.

You're right about it. The relaxation is only in terms of the upper
age limit. It is mandatory even for a VI to complete the prescribed
age limit (lower limit) as required by the commission on the specified
date. Further, there is no toleration even for a single day regarding
the lower age limit. Hence, he is not eligible to take the
examination. BTW, you may consult the Rajasthan State Service
Comission, but this is the policy of the UPSC. I think the same rules
apply there as well.

Answer is no.
Relaxation applies to upper age limit.
Though I fail to appreciate the significance of prescribing minimum age limit.
Minimum eligibility is sufficient, why minimum age bar?
We may mount a challenge on this ground, but not on the ground of disability.

Yes, this should be of utmost concern to each and every blind person. This 
is indeed a moment to act and not to pretend to contemplate and be an 
armchair philosopher.


We should take this up with the same zeal when our forefathers stood up to 
the clarion call of freedom is my birthright and I shall have it.


Right to read is now my birthright and I too shall have it.

Let us keep any misgivings if any in the back burner and with a single 
purpose stand up and rise to the occasion.


This is a historical moment for the blind and involvement from every 8 to 80 
would be required. It should really shake up and wake up all the persons 
concerned. Mere wishing and lip service  won't take us anywhere. We must 
have a proper strategy, planning and execution. Time is really short and we 
shall have to act quickly.

Industry statistics reveal that there are about 80,000-100,000 books 
published each year in India. Out of these, barely 800 books may be 
available in accessible formats for persons who cannot read print. India 
has approximately 70 million or more people who cannot read print because 
they are blind, have dyslexia or have cerebral palsy or some other form of 
physical, cognitive or sensory disability which prevents them from holding 
or turning the pages of a book. Our Copyright Act does not have any 
provision which permits books to be converted in to formats which they can 
read. So organisations have been converting books only after getting 
permission or on their own out of a need to sustain the intellectual needs 
of the community for pursuing education. However, even these efforts have 
resulted in very few accessible books being in circulation.




We have been petitioning the Government for the past three years to change 
the law and make reading, which is a fundamental right for Indian 
citizens, possible for us. We have submitted many petitions, research 
documents, shown best practices, analysed possible provisions which would 
benefit both us and the industry, met them personally several times and 
spoken in the media about this. In November a group of us met the Minister 
of HRD Mr. Kapil Sibal and submitted a detailed representation yet again 
and explained the problem for the Nth time. He seemed most positive and 
assured us that our problem would be adequately addressed in the present 
Copyright amendment Bill which is to be tabled before the Parliament in 
the budget session in February 2010.




After that, in the last week of December 2009, the Ministry of HRD comes 
out with a press release 
(http://pib.nic.in/release/release.asp?relid=56443kwd= ) which talks very 
briefly about the amendment which has been proposed with regard to the 
physically challenged. This press release is a cause of great concern 
and distress for us. The press release essentially states that conversion 
would be possible for physically challenged persons only in specialised 
formats without permission, for all other formats, we need to go to the 
Copyright Board for permission, which will be granted at the discretion of 
the Board and on such terms as they will specify. This essentially means 
that conversion is possible only into Braille or sign language. This is 
problematic because it leaves out all the millions of persons who are 
disabled and cannot read print or know Braille. What about those with 
dyslexia, cerebral palsy or those whose upper body is paralysed and all 
those who do not know Braille? Are not such persons also citizens of 
India? Should they not also have the Right to Read?




In this information Age, where all accessible formats can be produced 
through a master source electronic file and where even Braille can be read 
through refreshable Braille displays, for the Government to now come out 
with an amendment which would have been useful twenty years ago seems 
ironic. For how many of those 80,000-100,000 books can each of us keep 
asking for permission because we want an electronic file? And when we can 
use a mainstream electronic format like MSWord or PDF etc, why does the 
Government want to make things difficult for us again by asking us to 
convert into a specialised format

campaign and make it a success. Lal Chowk has a seating capacity of 1000 
people and we need all of you to come in large numbers and participate. We 
will also try to organise transportation if the number of participants is 
large from any organisation.

Hi Ketan,

I had a variant of this trogen and a whole host of other trogens on my 
machine until yesterday, although the problem was not as severe as yours. I 
tried out several anti-spyware software, but none of them could identify all 
the trogens, much less get rid of them. I finally purchased Spyware Doctor 
(20 dollars) from PC Tools. This software is extremely good at detecting and 
eliminating spyware/malware. They do not unfortunately make available a full 
free version; although the software can be downloaded for free, the free 
version meerly identifies the infections but does not clean them.
