It is nice, but most user will never know about it. The current behaviour is not what users would expect, I thus reopen the issue. This should be straightforward and work as in Excel. Maybe one approach would be : if you select text that is overloaded compared to the paragraph style, it should copy the overloaded attributes and not the paragraph style ? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I have 100% reproducible case - Windows XP in Virtual PC (with virtual machines additions installed) and input enhancer Punto Switcher, and even then only in Calc and Impress. I do admit that such setup is not exactly common, but the problem of delay with clipboard is common enough to warrant some investigation (see issues 55631, 20043, 7290). Punto Switcher - http://download.yandex.ru/punto/setup_punto_switcher_295.exe. If necessayr, I can either ftp virtual image or make it available for remote access via rdp. I was able to reproduce the bug on my computer using MS Word with SP3, and the following the steps below: 1. Open a new document in OO Writer and write Preface (w/o quotes) on the first line 2. then write Hello (w/o quotes) on the second line 3. Now, highlight the string Preface and change its style to Heading 1 from Default 4. Now, go to the first line before Preface press tab 5. Do a Save As and store the file as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) format 6. Close OOWriter and open the saved file in MSWord 7. You'll still see the same formatted document. Now, go to the first line and remove the first tab before Preface 8. Save the document 9. Now, open the document again in OO Writer, you'll still see the indented Preface string although you had removed the tab in MS Word I tested the same steps with Default style type (instead of Heading 1) but it did not generate this error. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 85823] Calc: text-only cut / copy / paste option
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=85823 Issue #|85823 Summary|Calc: text-only cut / copy / paste option Component|Spreadsheet Version|OOo 2.3.1 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|ENHANCEMENT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|spreadsheet Reported by|dotancohen --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Feb 3 15:30:03 + 2008 --- In calc, the default methods for performing cut / copy / paste operation work on the cell formatting as well as the contents. For instance, a cell cut/copied from one location to another preserves it's text size, font, and weight, as well as borders and background colour. So does text pasted in from Writer and other applications. Often one needs to manipulate data without formatting. For instance, spreadsheets with alternating row colours (odd and even rows with different background colour) is a common way of preventing confusion on long rows. However, data cut or copied from an odd row will then have the wrong background when pasted into an even row. Other problematic scenarios occur when a cell is used to total other cell's contents, and displayed in bold. Copying this cell's contents will copy the bold formatting as well. Therefore, OOo needs a text-only cut / copy / paste option. Currently, the only way to ensure a text-only paste operation is with one of these non-ontuitive methods: 1) A 'long click' on the Paste toolbar button. 2) CTRL-SHIFT-V - Selection - Paste All (uncheck) - Formats (uncheck) 3) Creating a macro that does one of the above. Additionally, there is no way to ensure a text-only cut / copy operation. Therefore, I propose an option similar to the dialog one gets when pressing CTRL-SHIFT-V which lets one select the default Paste options. Users who like the current behaviour can leave the options as they are, and users like me who need special paste behaviour can enable what they need. As the faculty for the paste options, and the dialog itself, already exist in OOo code, this feature should be trivial to implement. I should note that this is an accessibility issue, as my broken hand prevents me from making the complex mouse movements needed for long-clicking the Paste button, and also prevents me from making three-fingered keyboard shortcuts. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The 14 PDF standard fonts are always exported, even when exporting to non-PDF/A-1a. The attached document contains all the 14 standard PDF fonts, to check as follows: 1)open the document with OOH680_m6 2)confirm the PDF/A-1a checkbox on the general tab as unchecked and export the file 3)open the file with Acrobat Reader 4)look at “File Properties (tab) Fonts”: the fonts are all embedded. Repeat the operation with a 2.3.1 version, the fonts are not embedded. - pl. I did some debug on a m245 version I'm working on. It seems the up to PDFWriterImpl::filterDevFontList the 14 fonts are loaded into pFiltered. So I think this is outside the PDF/A-1a stuff, since the PDF/A-1a is not touched by this behavior. What changes is the size of the PDF file when the user chose the standard fonts to have the PDF smaller... Last observation is about the font chosen to display the standard ones that are different than the one used for vanilla 2.3.1, on the same PC. In any case I think that some tests on other platform should be in order before confirming, may be I'm plainly wrong. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=85825 Issue #|85825 Summary|Multidimensional Spreadsheets and OLAP Functionality Component|Spreadsheet Version|1.0.0 Platform|All URL|http://www.olapreport.com/origins.htm OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|FEATURE Priority|P2 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|spreadsheet Reported by|discoleo --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Feb 3 17:09:40 + 2008 --- This issue is part of a more comprehensive issue describing *major design flaws* of existing spreadsheets. I have posted already major design flaws part (1.)(issue 79924), part (2.) (issue 80139) and a subissue of part (4.) (issue 83767). This is the Part (3.) of Major Spreadsheet Design Flaws continuing the design flaws in the Spreadsheet Structure. The implementation of this issue will also depend significantly on the Part (4.) issue in this series and on splitting the spreadsheet into 2 components (as described briefly in this issue and further on in a future post). SUMMARY === With the recent acquisition of MySQL by SUN Microsystems and the various developments in the IT world, a new appraisal of *multidimensional software* has become necessary. TOC - INTRO: Multidimensional Spreadsheets -- Problem - SOLUTION -- Concept - UTILITY - LESSONS A. INTRO So, what are Multidimensional Spreadsheets? I will begin with a small description of the problem. A.1. PROBLEM Lets say, a business takes account of its sales using a spreadsheet. Monthly data is analysed and used for various calculations. Now, a new month has started, and the data begins to be entered in the spreadsheet. The problem is, the user has to copy all the formulas from the previous month to the new month (and correct/adapt eventual copy-errors), then correct the formulas yielding yearly data/analysis (like yearly sales, ...) to use the data from the new month. This process is cumbersome and error prone. B. SOLUTION === The solution would be to make the spreadsheet automatically aware of this new data and: i.) apply all formulas correctly on this new data, while ii.) correcting any global formulas to take account of this data. This is already possible using so called multidimensional spreadsheets. A good account on the history of multidimensional software can be found at: http://www.olapreport.com/origins.htm. B.1. CONCEPT What is the concept of multidimensional software? The data is split into multiple dimensions. Basically, in this simple scenario, we have 2 dimensions: one describing the revenues, and the other the time (basically the months). When we add data for a new month, basically we extend the time dimension with one month. All formulas applying to monthly data, will apply to this new month as well. The global formulas will similarly consider the values for the new month. C. UTILITY == So, what is the utility of this software. There are many use cases. Please note, that this is a feature most useful in high-end and professional settings. It is likely that casual spreadsheet users (like most home users) won't benefit from this feature. This is why I advocate splitting the spreadsheet application into 2 separate entities: I.) a general canvas/table/grid-formatting program (this is what most home users do most of the time – only minor spreadsheet functionality needed – current spreadsheets fail miserably at this point), and II.) a professional multidimensional spreadsheet module. (I will deal with this splitting requisite in a future issue – for a glimpse of this requirement, you could read further details on the wiki page: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/User_Experience/Grand_Concept#Calc but please note that this is work in progress and not ready yet for further discussions). The utility resides in corporate environments where complex spreadsheets are in use. Adding new dimensions to a spreadsheet is a rather cumbersome process, and one very error prone and hard to debug. Most users will simply copy some old formula columns to their new destination, and will try to correct the resulting formulas, but this generates a lot of hard to detect errors. Also, this process becomes significantly more complex with more than 2 dimensions. In our simple example, we had only 2 dimension (revenues vs time). But complex spreadsheets may contain a lot more dimensions: items sold, sales revenues, time, world region, OR to give another example from life sciences: study centre, time, visit-number, various physiologic parameters, and outcome data. Therefore, a multidimensional model would make life so

This dialog only allows you to choose alphanumerical bullets like A), I, 1, and so on. My problem is, I'd like to use bullets with my chapters' titles. When I select Heading 1 paragraph style to use (say) Numbering 1 style, I lose my chapters definition: Heading 1 is no longer recognized as the highest level of chapter numbering, and thus I lose every feature associated to it, including navigator, contents and numbering levels. Indeed, there's currently an incompatibility between Chapters numbering and Numbering styles. Writer should either: 1) allow setting every needed parameter from the Tools - Chapters numbering dialog (with bullets, images...), by implementing every feature available from the style toolbar's dialogs or 2) only ask for a numbering style to use with the Paragraph style, and let us customize this style with the style toolbox. Do you understand what I mean? ;-) This can be really annoying when dealing with long documents. Thanks - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I also believe this problem runs counter to the primary purpose of a word processor, which is to create and edit text content. Recent changes to the behavior of hyperlink text in edit mode were made partly for this reason, that the focus of functionality should be maintained throughout the application. I would have rated that issue far below this one in overall impact and significance because that hyperlink issue was not a defect, while this one about background images has been around for years. I am challenging the prioritizing process here. I see this issue is marked as Started but also set for OOo Later. Is any work being done? If the link target is as simple as in your example people typically do not bother with an hyperlink. Also a normal user will just click on the link expecting the browser to start like in all its other apps, not leaving time for the tooltip to show up. Lastly I think it was the UI hall of shame that pointed out that if you need to add a press/click foo to do bar to your GUI you messed up big time in the first place - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. My configuration: OS: Windows XP Home Edition 2002 SP2 Machine:AMD Sempron 3000+ (1.58 GHz, 1.18 GB RAM) OpenOffice: v2.3.1 Here is the sequence of steps: 1. Open new text document in OpenOffice Writer 2. Type 'Timber.' 3. Leave the cursor after the period. 4. Press Ctrl-F7 OR Go to 'Tools - Language - Thesaurus' 5. Thesaurus dialog pops up. In the Synonym text box select 'Lumber' as the replacement and click 'OK'. 6. The 'Timber.' is NOT replaced, but instead words 'TimberLumber' show up while we expect only 'Lumber' to show up. The workaround would be to select 'Timber.' with a mouse first and then press Ctrl-F7. This way 'Timber.' is successfully replaced with 'Lumber'. I did a follow up test where you type 'Timber ' (i.e. put a space instead of a period). Using the same sequence of steps as above, we get this 'Timber Lumber'. So the period at the end of 'Timber' is not really significan, it's just one of the ways to reproduce the bug. The replacement works perfectly if we have 'Timber' only. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If you want to use your mouse to resize the columns and rows of a table in a business card then you could use the mouse to use the slider (on top for columns and on the left for rows) to resize the rows and columns of the table. The mouse pointer changes to the typical PLUS (+) like icon to tell you that you can resize the column/row now. Deleting a large amount of text in html format is not recognized as “Delete a paragraph” or “Delete bla bla” by the undo functionality in writer. Writer seems to assume that it can be handled as a simple string. Consequence: the whole string is used for the description of the change in the undo stack. That increases the size of the Edit menu in such a way, that no menu entry text is drawn in the visible area of the screen. Steps to reproduce: 1.Create a new text document 2.Copy some text (several paragraphs) from the web browser (e.g. Firefox) in the writer document. This text will be inserted in the format “html format”. 3.Select this text completely and delete it (e.g. by pressing Del). Expected behavior: The undo item shows “Delete: 'bla bla ... bla bla'” or “Delete: Paragraphs”. Current behavior: The undo item uses the full text. Due to the fact that the width of the Edit menu is adjusted to the length of the menu entries, the menu is very (very!) large and spans the complete screen. The menu seems to be centered, so the menu text entries are outside the current view area. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=85834 Issue #|85834 Summary|[Notes2] Extend the delete item by the real name of th |e author Component|Word processor Version|680m243 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|ENHANCEMENT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|mod Reported by|christophnoack --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Feb 3 22:28:15 + 2008 --- The menus of the Notes Window (e.g. context menu, drop-down menu) does provide an option to delete the notes created by the same author. For usability reasons (see below), the context menu should be extended by the name of the author which is already shown in the Note Window. Example: Delete All Notes by “John Q. Public” When you start implementing this, please refer to the most current specification of the menu layout in the Notes2 wiki. Usability Issue: Today we provide the author's name in the Notes Window, but we don't actually tell the user that this is called the “author”. He may not be able to guess that, because the user data may not be sufficient to show meaningful information in the Note Window. Therefore it should be avoided to use the term “author” in the user interface and instead use the same string. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If a note is inserted and the Notes Side Pane is not shown at the moment, then the Notes Side Pane will be opened. Unfortunately, if the inserted Note refers to a selection of text, then the Notes Side Pane will not be opend, but the Note get's created anyway (but hidden). Steps to reproduce: 1.Create a document and enter some text; insert a Note and enter some text 2.Toggle visibility of Notes Side Pane to off (so the Note Side Pane is not shown) 3.Select some text which was created in step 1 4.Insert new Note Expected behavior: The Note Side Pane will be shown and the new Note will be created. Current behavior: Nothing happens (from the user's point of view). Nevertheless, a new Note has been created. This can be checked if the Notes Side Pane is manually shown. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. According to the specification, the Notes Windows do not only show the creation date of the Note in normal format (e.g. 2008-02-01) but also in a more “human friendly” format (e.g. Yesterday). The information is written to the Notes when a) the Notes are created, or b) when the Notes Windows are drawn (e.g. document opened). Then, those information will not be updated. This is no problem for the normal date format, but the information in “human friendly” format will not get updated and therefore is not correct. Use Case: A user opens a document and sends the computer to the sleep mode. The next day he continues working on the same document. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If a Note is currently edited (cursor is placed inside the Note Window) and the user uses the undo functionality, then the Note is preferred when restoring the previous state. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a document and enter some text. 2. Create a Note and enter some text. 3. Put the focus back into the Writer document and edit some text or insert some more text. 4. Go back to the Note created in step 2. 5. Use the undo function to revert changes. Expected behavior: The changes in the document text are reverted. Current behavior: The changes in the Note are reverted. If text is deleted from a Note and the same Note is deleted afterwards, then the undo functionality seems to merge both changes into one. Steps to reproduce: 1.Create a document and enter some text 2.Create a Note and enter some text 3.Delete some text from the note of step 2 (make sure the Note has still the focus) 4.Delete the note created in step 2 5.Use the undo fucntion to revert changes Expected behavior: The Note will reappear without the previously deleted text, like between step 3 ... 4. My configuration: OS: Windows XP Home Edition 2002 SP2 Machine:AMD Sempron 3000+ (1.58 GHz, 1.18 GB RAM) OpenOffice: v2.3.1 1 - The cell containing an Internet link (Cell A9 with http://google.fr;) 2 - The cell containing a CIFS link (Cell A8 with \\myServer\myDirectory) 3 - The cell containing the HYPERLINK function and pointing to the internet link (Cell D10) 4 - The cell containing the HYPERLINK function and pointing to the CIFS link (Cell D9) My default browser (Mozilla Firefox v.2.0.0.11) opens up a correct web-site when clicking on both cells 3 and 1. The French version of Google web-site indeed opens up. When I click on EITHER cell 2 or 4 NOTHING happens. The attached .png pictures claims that if clicked on cell 2, then Internet Explorer opens up, but if clicked on cell 4, then nothing opens up. I was not able to reproduce that behaviour. In my case nothing happens if either link 2 or 4 is clicked. am I missing something? I am not too familiar with CIFS (Common Internet File System). Do I need to do some configuration settings first in order to reproduce the problem? The CIFS link given seems to have only the relative name, but what about the server's name? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
