Whilst the crash can be replicated fairly easily, it does not occur consistently on each attempt to replicate. Also, the crash itself varies in behavior: In the majority of cases no MS crash warning was received, rather Impress simply terminated without warning. Further, the crash report application does not launch on restarting OOo. However Java crash reports are being added to C:\Program Files\OOo-dev 3\program. These describe a fatal error in the Java Runtime Environment (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) and state “The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code” ***Attachments*** An example Java crash report is attached (hs_err_pid1000.txt). A sample card file are also attached (en ord 1.odp). ***Test Setup*** Installing OpenCards and selecting a card file: a) Download and install OpenCards (Version 1.5.1) per the instructions at: http://opencards.info/index.php/oc-download b) Close and reopen Impress. c) Within Impress select Menu: OpenCards > LongTerm Learning d) At the LongTerm Memorization Manager dialog, right click “All” within the FlashCard Categories tree displayed on the left of the dialog, and select “Add card-set”. e) Navigate to the attached card file (en ord 1.odp) and click the Open button. f) Click the Close button. OpenCards limits the number of cards one can learn each day. By default this limit is set to 30. To make testing easier, change preferences as follows: a) Within Impress select Menu: OpenCards > Preferences. b) Click the Long-Term Learning icon. c) Increase the “Maximal number of new items per day” limit (I used 300). d) Click the OK button. ***Steps to Reproduce*** 1) Within Impress select Menu: OpenCards > LongTerm Learning. 2) Click the Start Learning! button. >>Impress will now display a slide with only the title showing 3) Click the Show Complete Card button. >>Impress will now reveal the rest of the slide content and OpenCards will display a number of buttons: “Perfectly”, “Well”, “So so”, “Hardly” and “Not at all”. 4) Click one of these buttons, e.g. the “Perfectly” button. 5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until a crash is experienced. If the entire card set is completed prior to a crash, reset the card set: 6) In the LongTerm Memorization Manager dialog, right click on “en ord 1.odp” and select Reset Learn-State, click the Yes button at the resulting dialog. 7) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until a crash is experienced. ***Additional Information*** As noted above, I did not experience this crash consistently. The crash occurred approximately once for every 3 to 4 iterations of the above steps. I conducted a number of additional tests, only one of which seemed to significantly increase the occurrence of crashes: - executing steps 3 and 4 as rapidly as possible, to the point where the slides were lagging behind user input. Sometimes I need a character that is available on a different layout but it does not mean I am changing input language! Of course I could go into "insert symbol" or "create character" but I find it much more efficient to be able to quickly switch layouts (without using my mouse) and directly type the character(s) I want, without changing the language of the text I am writing. Before, OpenOffice allowed this, the new version does not. If I set up Windows to be able to correctly handle all permutations for all languages I use (I have done so) it means I have potentially 20 permutations to cycle through (by keyboard) or select (by mouse) - not efficient at all, nor handy. I much, much prefer being able to manually tell OpenOffice what language I am writing in a piece of text at any time, and for OpenOffice not to link this to the Windows input language and change the language for me. So, the point, again, that I and several other people are making, is that while having Open Office match the Windows input language might be handy for some users, it is definitely not handy for other users. It is silly to impose "one way" of working with languages/keyboard layouts when there is no good reason for it. OpenOffice used not to impose this way of working on users, it now does. I (and I think several others) believe it should be made optional, so that those that wish to can stick to the Windows input language management system (probably those that do not use multiple layouts for each of a series of several languages) (and that, anyway, is for those on Windows), but those that don't want to, can manage the OOO input language separately from the Windows input language. I don't think that this is a spurious request, and I wish that, even though it is clearly not your preference, you acknowledge that other people may have another way and need of working with keyboards/languages than you do, that is just as valid. Your suggestion that our issue is a result of "unfortunate operation" by us, and that we can't use Windows properly, is frankly rather insulting. I have tried the Windows Input language route that you suggest, and I am sorry to tell you that it is no panacea, it just complicates and slows things down further. It is also interesting that you seem to suggest the way Windows is set up to handle input languages and keyboard layouts is necessarily an efficient set up that everyone should be happy with. I beg to differ. I have no problem with some people finding the current set up more efficient and user-friendly than the previous one - good for them, but that does not mean it is efficient for everyone, which is why, I hope that Open Office will make this setting optional as soon as possible in one of its new versions. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The result of the discussion was that the UNO slot ".uno:Thesaurus" should be discarded and all occurrences need to be renamed to ".uno:ThesaurusDialog". All formulae in word documents now look well on my PC! [Tested on WindowsVista on WordViewer2003, no other MS Office components installed]. There was a trouble in finding in Internet StarSymbol font. In fact, this font is proscribed in standard Math.xcu file (see above) for most symbols, but while display in OOo Math, they come out in OpenSymbol. So I decided just to install copy of OpenSymbol font under name "StarSymbol". Renaming was done just by filtering opens___.ttf file (C:\Windows\Fonts\) through a simple Perl script containing re s/(O\W?p\W?e\W?n\W?)(?=S\W?y\W?m\W?b\W?o\W?l)/my $x=$1;$x=~tr*Open*Star*;$x/eg (don't attemt to edit this file in Notepad which kills binaries!). Then the result file was installed on the system in usual way; then, all the formulae converted to Word before appeared in good symbols. There could be several ways to improve: - allow a list to be configurable to show always, and the rest one further click on the list - categorise the fonts into: serious fonts, wild fonts, fonts for i18n support, symbols - autolearning (yuk!)
