[AOLSERVER] Oracle driver
Is the oracle driver still maintained? How would I get a hold of the maintainers?
[AOLSERVER] Oracle Driver
I now have Oracle Driver 2.3 and 2.5. Anyone who has or knows of Oracle Driver versions of any kind, please send me the tarball and/or send me a direct URL to the download for what you find. I and/or Jeff will open them up and try to determine from file dates and what's in READMEs what order we need to integrate them. Please copy Jeff Davis (he and I are cc'd on this message, so Reply-All, REMOVE the AOLserver Discussion address, and attach any files). thanks, /s. -- Scott Goodwin [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://scottg.net
[AOLSERVER] Oracle driver problem
Hello, I'm working on an Oracle driver problem and I'm curious if anyone else has seen it. I'm running the win32 version 2.4 driver with Oracle 8.1.6 on NT (client and server) The problem is if I try and update a column with a clob greater that 64k I get [07/May/2001:16:16:29][610.601][-conn0-] Notice: H:\src\aD\root\oracle-driver\ora8.c:4538:: ns_ora clob_dml: binding variable xml [07/May/2001:16:16:29][610.601][-conn0-] Notice: H:\src\aD\root\oracle-driver\ora8.c:4538:: ns_ora clob_dml: binding variable transaction_id [07/May/2001:16:16:29][610.601][-conn0-] Notice: H:\src\aD\root\oracle-driver\ora8.c:4538:: ns_ora clob_dml: binding variable 1 [07/May/2001:16:16:29][610.601][-conn0-] Notice: H:\src\aD\root\oracle-driver\ora8.c:4543:: bind variable 1 is a lob [07/May/2001:16:16:29][610.601][-conn0-] Notice: H:\src\aD\root\oracle-driver\ora8.c:2763:: entry [07/May/2001:16:16:29][610.601][-conn0-] Error: SQL(): H:\src\aD\root\oracle-driver\ora8.c:4601:: error in `OCIStmtExecute ()': ORA-01480: trailing null missing from STR bind value SQL: update bv_transactions set transaction = :xml where transaction_id = :transaction_id returning transaction into :1 At first I thought I had not set LobBufferSize but the logs contain: [07/May/2001:16:02:07][610.218][-main-] Notice: modload: loading 'd:/acs/aol32/bin/ora8.dll' [07/May/2001:16:02:07][610.218][-main-] Notice: ora8 driver LobBufferSize = 50 [07/May/2001:16:02:07][610.218][-main-] Notice: H:\src\aD\root\oracle-driver\ora8.c:920:: e ntry (hdriver 00417640, config_path ns/db/driver/ora8) [07/May/2001:16:02:07][610.218][-main-] Notice: Loaded ArsDigita Oracle Driver version 2.4, built on 16:05:38/Nov 14 2000 The config section: ns_section ns/db/driver/ora8 ns_param Debug true ns_param LobBufferSize 50 All of this would not be so bad but when this happens the Oracle instance quits without even putting anything in the event log The dml statement is: db_dml update_trans { update bv_transactions set transaction = :xml where transaction_id = :transaction_id returning transaction into :1 } -clobs [list $xml] Has anyone else seen this? Re: [AOLSERVER] Oracle Driver
I have oracle 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6 all as released from aD. I checked and the copy of 2.6 at Eve's site and the OpenACS tarball are the same. I also have the version from Jeremy Collins which he called 2.6 and was based on the aD v2.5 but there are a lot of cosmetic changes and it is hard to figure out what should be folded in to the next version. The diff from aD 2.5 -> aD 2.6 is very small and easy to add to Jeremy's version but I am not sure how well his version has been tested. There is also a later version than the 2.6 release which Rob Mayoff had (which hopefully Rob or Andrew will send to me shortly which was ora8.c v 1.60 in the aD CVS). Also, there was a change that I never put into the released version since it was never clear to me what the right answer was (cf http://ccm.redhat.com/bboard-archive/webdb/000d9f.html ) I think what we should do is put up the 2.3 -> 2.6 sequence, then try to pull in anything else that might have been fixed elsewhere and make that 2.7beta. --Jeff
Re: [AOLSERVER] Oracle Driver
I have a copy of aD 3.3a13, so I can pull that copy out too. Jeff and I will just have to do a "heuristic" analysis of all the versions. I'm going to unpack them all into one area and start study them. Your info below will help. If anyone else has this kind of historical knowledge, post it here. thanks, /s. Re: [AOLSERVER] Oracle Driver
Cool -- I just copied you on a response to Jeremy about his version -- he did a lot of reformatting of the code mostly, but did add one command. He suggested we leave his version out of the import, but add the new command he created in manually. Also, if we can get all the way back to 1.6, let's go 1.6 -> aD 2.6. I still want to unpack and confirm the versions and ordering, unless you've already done that and are confident you've sorted it out. /s. [AOLSERVER] Oracle Driver update
Thanks to all who have provided the various versions of the oracle driver code. I've created a version geneology based on the Id tags in the different ora8.c files: 2.3 ora8.c: /* $Id: ora8.c,v 1.54 2000/09/09 02:37:04 mayoff Exp $ */ 2.4 ora8.c: /* $Id: ora8.c,v 1.55 2000/09/20 19:54:35 mayoff Exp $ */ 2.5 ora8.c: /* $Id: ora8.c,v 1.57 2001/01/05 17:26:10 davis Exp $ */ (BRANCH: 2.5-jcollins ora8.c: /* $Id: ora8.c,v 1.5 2002/05/26 13:40:31 jcollins Exp $ */) 2.6 ora8.c: /* $Id: ora8.c,v 1.59 2001/06/11 20:11:14 mayoff Exp $ */ 2.7 /* $Id: ora8.c,v 1.60 2001/09/19 03:10:36 mayoff Exp $ */ Looks like I can import from 2.3, then update all the way to what I'm calling 2.7 (I don't think there ever was an official 2.7 release). Jeremy based his extensive changes on version 2.5. Also, Jeff Davis posted a mod to, I think 2.5 -- reference http://ccm.redhat.com/bboard-archive/webdb/000d9f.html Unless anyone has any comments, updates or other suggestions, I'm going to import 2.3 and patch to what I'm calling 2.7, then attempt to patch Jeff's mod and then Jeremy's changes onto 2.7. If they take cleanly, great. If not, I'll probably ask Jeremy and Jeff to take a look and see if they can sort it out. One alternative is to simply create a branch after 2.5 that contains Jeremy's code, which he or someone else can then merge into the head branch. I'll wait a day for comments and suggestions. If anyone wants to get all the versions I currently have, they can do so by downloading http://scottg.net/download/nsora.tar.gz. /s. -- Scott Goodwin [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://scottg.net
[AOLSERVER] AOLServer Oracle Driver
Hi all, I have a web site based on ACS 3.5. The DB is ORACLE 8.1.6, and I've got 2 separate machines, one for the DB and one for AOLServer (all SUN hardware, for info). We plan to migrate on linux and Oracle 9i. So I have two points to validate : 1/ If I have Oracle 9i as DB, and the AOLServer/Oracle driver is compiled using 8i and is using 8i client libs to connect, is it ok ? 2/ can the Oracle driver be compiled with the 9i client library and is it working fine under linux ? (we plan to use Debian). Thanks for any input. Best Regards. Jean-Fabrice RABAUTE Core Services http://www.core-services.fr [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mob: +33 (0)6 13 82 67 67

You are one of the few I ever heard that is using AOLServer+Oracle on Win32. I posted so many messages asking who knows how to make it work. I still don't know how to make it work. Where did you get your Win32 AOLServer and Oracle driver with what version? I am running a WinNT4.0 and a couple of people helped me some what without any success. Good luck. [AOLSERVER] AOLserver Oracle Driver Improvements
All, Who currently maintains the AOLserver Oracle driver? I made a few changes to it. Below is a brief summary that I wrote to explain the changes. I wanted to get any feedback on the API call, if any. This new version adds multiple OUT variables, and the ability to bind a single REF CURSOR. The single REF CURSOR limitation is because the current driver only allows for a single OCIStmt handle to be associated with a db handle. That is the *ONLY* reason for the limitation. Should we write [ns_oracle exec|fetch|etc $stmt] this limitation could go away. And yes, to use the new command you call [ns_oracle] not [ns_ora]. The new [ns_oracle] is written against the Tcl 8.x API and the older version is not so I had to create a new command. The new command is as follows: Syntax: ns_oracle plsql dbhandle sql ?ref? Optional arguments: ?ref? - Name of bind variable that is a REF CURSOR. Example: set db [ns_db gethandle] set out "" set firm_id 44 set firm_name "My new Firm name" ns_oracle plsql $db "begin pmpc_admin.rename_firm(:firm_id, :firm_name, :out); end;" Notes: Note how I had to set "out" to an empty string. This is required for any argument unless you specify it as a REF CURSOR. I think this is a reasonable request and makes implementation easier. Alternatively we could just always default to "" if the variable doesn't exist but that might have unwanted side effects. Finally we could continue with the horrible way the current driver does it and require that the programmer tell us which bind variables are OUT. Jeremy

[AOLSERVER] Oracle Driver Bug Fix
Earlier this month here we were running into an old bug in the oracle driver, described here: http://ccm.redhat.com/bboard-archive/webdb/000Ya9.html In the ns_ora exec_plsql command the return buffer was not being given a null terminator (or, as is the case in other bind calls, completely filled with nulls) after being allocated. I added a memset call so it acts here like in other ns_ora functions that use bind variables, which so far has solved the problem. Perhaps this would be useful for the next release of the oracle driver... Re: [AOLSERVER] Oracle driver problem (solved)
It turns out the code to put the clob into the datebase was incorrect The call was db_dml update_trans { update bv_transactions set transaction = :xml where transaction_id = :transaction_id returning transaction into :1 } -clobs [list $xml] but should be db_dml update_trans { update bv_transactions set transaction = empty_clob() where transaction_id = :transaction_id returning transaction into :1 } -clobs [list $xml] however it's interesting that the incorrect code kills the database instance. It's also interesting that the first code works until the XML document becomes larger than 64k Barry Books wrote: > Hello, > > I'm working on an Oracle driver problem and I'm curious if anyone else has > seen it. How far apart is this from the general oratcl extension? That one is currently maintained by Todd Helfter, and has been recently updated for Oracle9 support and new features. If it is possible to just make minor adaptations of that to work in AOLServer, I'm sure that he would accept the changes. Jeff
Re: [AOLSERVER] AOLserver Oracle Driver Improvements
While it might be possible to get the oratcl extension to work, it probably wouldn't take advantage of AOLserver's DB handle pools, which are one of the major benefits of AOLserver. Still, for folks coming in with oratcl experience, it might help get them up-to-speed more quickly. But I think any performance-minded app is going to want to use the AOLserver DB infrastructure. For one ns_ora can automatically do binding of local variables. Not to mention that oratcl doesn't use AOLserver's connection pooling. My guess (and what my patch is based on) is: http://www.arsdigita.com/acs-repository/one-version?version_id=956 I believe http://www.ybos.net/ has a slightly modified version that compiles against Oracle 9i. I think the only change was to the Makefile and I've included that in my patch. What if I just gave you a tarball of my current driver and you imported that? Call it 2.6 beta, or something? Looks like Jeremy may be signing up > for that daunting duty :) I believe the latest Oracle driver is version 2.6, from c. June 11 2001. At least, that's the version I have, and it came with the AOLserver 3.3+ad13 from ArsDigita. It's ora8.c has this CVS Id tag at the top of the file: /* $Id: ora8.c,v 1.59 2001/06/11 20:11:14 mayoff Exp $ */ The README in the Oracle driver's source distribution mentions at the top that it's version 2.4, but there is a change log further down listing changes for 2.5 and 2.6, and according to the version.h file it's definitely 2.6. Looks like all that stuff is currently still available from aD: http://www.arsdigita.com/acs-repository/older?&type=other As far as I know the OpenACS folks have not (yet?) modified the Oracle driver at all. You might want to ask them to be sure, but this (relatively recent, I think) OpenACS 4 install doc says to still download AOLserver 3.3+ad13 from aD: http://openacs.org/doc/openacs-4/aolserver.html Another variant of all that stuff is mentioned in that same install doc page: http://uptime.openacs.org/aolserver-openacs/ Todd Gillespie also hacked some form of ref cursor support into the Oracle driver at one point: http://www.toddbrandlabs.com/code/ While your're at this sort of thing, OpenACS seems to also have an "ns_xmlrpc" module that might be of interest: http://openacs.org/sdm/one-package.tcl?package_id=12 And, just what is the difference between the "postgres.c" and "nspostgres.c" drivers? They're both available on SourceForge, in different places. postgres.c is what OpenACS uses, and looks much more recent. Was it forked off from nspostgres.c at some point? http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/acs-pg/driver-2.3/ http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/aolserver/nspostgres/ -- Andrew Piskorski <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://www.piskorski.com

There are reports at OpenACS.org that the current cvs checkout of the nsoracle driver is broken. Version 2.7, available for download is working under the same conditions. [AOLSERVER] Oracle driver update and SF question
Hello, I just checked in a patch for the Oracle driver that fixes a crash bug we were seeing on some of our servers. Anyone running a relatively recent (last two years) version of the Oracle driver may want to switch. I saw some e-mail a while ago about switching to GitHub, but I don't see any of the modules on GitHub. I have some other nsoracle patches (eg. log warning and query text for queries running > X seconds) that would probably be better suited to a private fork or branch. Any plans to migrate the modules to GitHub? -Andrew -- AOLserver - http://www.aolserver.com/ To Remove yourself from this list, simply send an email to with the body of "SIGNOFF AOLSERVER" in the email message. Re: [AOLSERVER] Oracle driver update and SF question
Andrew, Thanks for committing the nsoracle fix! Glad to see you're still working with it. I did start moving the core source to GitHub, but didn't get around to moving the modules. I do intend to move them and, by coincidence, will be doing work directly on AOLserver starting in September, so I'll definitely do it then. Thanks for asking, though. Hi, Can I ask what nature of the crash this fixes? I remember trying nsoracle 2.8 fork and it was extremely unstable and had to rollback to 2.7. Is this on the CVS tree now? Thanks! There was an uniititialized int * being passed into OCI in the code that handles 'ns_ora exec_plsql'. 2.7 is nearly 6 years old now. If you can post the backtrace of a crash w/ the most recent nsoracle from CVS I'm happy to take a look at it. Thanks for letting me know, Andrew. I will try to get around to testing the latest code base from CVS. Hi Dossy, Is it possible to remove the one which you just added on github because it's not the clean version which I wanted to add at the time when I ported for aolserver and also I have fixed a type casting bug in the code later on. Re: [AOLSERVER] Oracle driver update and SF question
Yes just remove what's there because there are multiple/redundant copies of the same file so its very confusing which file is the correct version of memcache and about the history, ever since I have imported no one added any patch so there is nothing that we will lose. The code I have sent you is the improved bug free version of nsmemcache which I have never commit to CVS (my bad) nor its documented. Sep I would want you to please do your test against the one which Dossy will commit. Dossy I haven't prepared any test case, I shall prepare the one and will let you know. Regards, Majid. Re: [AOLSERVER] Oracle driver update and SF question
Majid, I will be more than happy to do it. I just probably need to figure how and where to git pull. I don't think I have an account however. Regards. Re: [AOLSERVER] Oracle driver update and SF question
I think the best way to do this is to fork the project, then replace it with his code, then commit his diff, and then do a pull request to Dossy. That preserves the history, and allows us to see what Majid's changes are. Re: [AOLSERVER] Oracle driver update and SF question
I have committed Majid's code to GitHub that he has sent to me and have tagged it version 1.1. You can download the tarball for it using this URL: http://github.com/aolserver/nsmemcache/tarball/1.1 On 9/3/10 5:03 PM, Majid Khan wrote: > Yes just remove what's there because there are multiple/redundant > copies of the same file so its very confusing which file is the > correct version of memcache and about the history, ever since I have > imported no one added any patch so there is nothing that we will lose. > The code I have sent you is the improved bug free version of > nsmemcache which I have never commit to CVS (my bad) nor its documented. > > Sep I would want you to please do your test against the one which > Dossy will commit. I have tested your code updates Majid and they work splendidly! Am I understanding you correctly in that your proposed patch is no longer needed? [AOLSERVER] Has any one tested the AOLserver Oracle Driver with 64 bit Oracle 9.2?
A question for the Oracle driver team. Has the AOLserver Oracle driver been tested by any one against 64 bit Oracle 9.2? We have tested the old 2.6 version of the AOLserver Oracle driver against 32 bit Oracle 9.2 and have seen it work but haven't tested it thoroughly yet. We haven't yet started on 64 bit Oracle 9.2 and we are wondering if anyone has had success compiling and running with this configuration. I believe that we will need to use gcc 3.2 to recompile for 64 bit Oracle 9.2. Is that correct? /pgw Greg Wolff [EMAIL PROTECTED] Scott Goodwin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>@LISTSERV.AOL.COM> on 10/01/2002 01:09:21 AM Please respond to AOLserver Discussion <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent by:AOLserver Discussion <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To:[EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: (bcc: Greg Wolff/BNA Inc) Subject:[AOLSERVER] Oracle Driver update Thanks to all who have provided the various versions of the oracle driver code.
