I hope people will not comment on the album after just listenin to it once. Im sure all of us know ARR's music takes some time to grow. I first listened to the audio trailer then saw the video trailer. Then i listened to the mp3 and i finally bought the original M'sian CD. Each phase was diffrent and the original CD is miles better. Now i do agree that the base is quite high and esp in 'mayilragae' song the music is louder then the lyrics(probably to cover madhusree's bad tamil) in the mp3 but the CD is just fine. If you have a good sound system the result is amazing. The distributer for M'sia is Suara Networks and i urge all to buy the original. Lets make Ah Aah a big success here and already the audio is rocking in shops and radio stations with 'maramkothiye' being the current favourite followed by 'anbe aaruyire'. I have listened to all the songs around 20 times now and im getting extremely addicted to it. All the songs are superb and just breath-taking. I would rate Ah Aah better then New and E20U18 and at par with Boys, KKS and AE. Hey, I also bought the 5 star audio cd (green paper cover with heart shape cut out in the middle) in Singapore. The quality sucks big time. When I first played the CD, I had a big shock as nothing was clear. I had to reduce the bass below zero to listen to the songs. Funny thing is the songs from other movies (Mudhalvan, Kadhalar Thinam etc) in the same CD is good quality. Although these are MY all time Rahman favorites, you cannot classify any one of these songs as inferior to any other song that is less than 4:00 minutes. Rahman's biggest hits have always been over 5:00 minutes at least. That is one of the brilliance of Rahman's music, it never sounds redundant, even if the song is 7 mins long. The three Mangals are completely unique. I mixed them such that it sounds like one song with a steady flow, without any noticeable interruption. I was actually amazed at Rahman's genius. He never siezes to surprise me. When I heard the final version with all the Mangals combined, the differences in the three versions became very obvious. Have you heard the song? Try it and let me know if you feel it was too long or if it gets boring at anytime during the 7 minutes. Salute to Mr. Rahman for a gift so unique. Hi all, If u guys have heard the song "naam ada likhna", on the first hearing, I thought its rahman...am a fan of arr since roja and yet couldnt make out tht its someone else. Though die hard fans can very well segregate rahman songs from thousands of unheard songs, there will still be possibility of some songs tht may be accidently taken under arr. Moreover, more and more mds adopt rahmanish way of creating music... Of course, then the main test will be melody, which differs for every md. There have been instances when we feel like htis is probably rahman, but eventually turns up some one else. The Rising: The Ballad Of Mangal Pandey Jonathan Romney in London 04 August 2005 00:01 Dir: Ketan Mehta. India. 2005. 150mins The story of the Indian Mutiny gets a swashbuckling spin, complete with musical numbers, in The Rising, a film that director Ketan Mehta originally planned to make in 1988. The presence of Aamir Khan star of Lagaan, one of the few Bollywood films to achieve a healthy degree of non-niche prominence suggests that The Rising might follow suit, though much will depend on its reception in Locarno where it premiered on Wednesday (Lagaan was launched in similar style). Crossover potential could be hampered, however, by what mainstream audiences may perceive as a jarring incongruity between taut, realistic historical drama and the extravagant dance sequences scored by star composer AR Rahman. Slightly less than a full-blown epic, the film is handsomely mounted rather than truly spectacular, but at time of viewing, some CGI work, notably in the battle scenes, was yet to be completed. Whether or not it can break out of the specialised market, The Rising's seriousness and political sense of purpose should give it an edge both theatrically and on DVD. The film is released in the UK and Us on August 12. The film begins after the 1857 court martial of the historical figure Mangal Pandey (Khan), a sepoy an Indian soldier enlisted in the British army under the all-powerful East India Company. A voice-over tells us we will learn what brought Pandey to this point, and how his actions led to the downfall of the East India Company, and sowed the seeds for the eventual dismantling of the British Raj. The action flashes back to a skirmish between the British army and Afghans, in which Pandey saves the life of a young Scottish officer, Captain William Gordon (Stephens). The two men's friendship is later cemented in a wrestling match but is tested when the sepoys come into conflict with their British commanders, as a result of the introduction of a bullet cartridge lubricated with beef and pork fat, and therefore offensive to the Indian soldiers. Meanwhile, both men embark on romances with Indian women - Pandey with Rani (Mukerji), a young woman sold as a prostitute in a brothel for British officers, and Gordon with Jwala (Patel), a young widow whom he saves from death by suttee. The Rising strikes an uneasy balance between factually-based historical drama and very broad melodrama, especially where some of the British characters are concerned, although Kenneth Cranham excels as a boorishly corrupt trader. Writer Farrukh Dondey manages to impart a great deal of historical information about both the economic voracity and the cultural ignorance underlying British dominion, giving the film a distinct Marxist spin. But that requires an awkward amount of exposition, and it stretches plausibility that Gordon should deliver an angry lecture on the oppressive function of the opium trade, anachronistically signing off, "And we call it the free market." The talk, however, is offset by some taut dramatic sequences, especially in the climactic stand-offs between the sepoys and the British, with Khan excelling as an intense, charismatic leader who finally achieves a quasi-messianic status. He's well matched by Stephens as a thinking gentleman-of-action. Several song-and-dance sequences provide vibrant interludes, especially when Mukerji lets rip with jubilant, flirty brio. HI, was out of contact with the group. for quite a long time..after reading the backlog of th emailsi really felt amused for the reviews written for THE RISING... well,being fans of the BOSS music we all know that his compositions works on us like slow poison,,,the more you hear it the more it enchants you..and after the music gets you...it not only mesmerizes us but also touches our souls...this is the essence of HIS music... but was really surprised to read reviews just after quite a few days of MANGAL PANDEY.some even calling it sub-standard and crapGOD help them. well my suggestion to the moderator is to block all the reviews of the BOSS'S compositions so early...i mean whether it is degrading HIS music or whether the reviewer has used all the best possible adjectives praising him.. ON A personal front i would just like to add that a freind of mine from south passed me the cd's of the music of RAHMAAN'S tamil compositions.and i am at present really mad after this album of his where there are songs like CINDRELLA CINDRELLA, ;;;ANARKALI,,,WELL i don't know what the album's name is but the songs in this album are par excellence.. this rather shows the power of his musicthat a typical hindi speaking guy gets hooked to songs having an alien lang. even though he does not understand a single worldmaybe i would be really obliged if you all could help me knowing these songs better(like the situation for which the songs were made,the theme,the lyrics,etc of th song)//.ANKIT. hi, I am in dubai an I just heard that Rising has been delayed by 2 weekscan anyone confirm I spoke to the theatres releasing it on 10th (2 days before the date in India) and they said its gonna come only by 24th. i am totally dissapointed with Rahman's music on this album and made worst by the fact that the recording in the malaysian copy of the CD is sub- standard; every one is singing in a tunnel thus making it difficult to appreciate this album. i am not sure whether this is localised. generally most if not all of Rahman's albums would be played in my system without any embarresment enjoying both the sonic and the artistic qualities but sad to say that i cannot say that for this album Yahoo! to sing tamil song!!!
Door Kahin ek aam ki baghiyaa - for bringing back the nostalgic feel
of lullaby to film music. and also for giving the best music ever,
for a javed akhtar poetry.
mehandi hai rachne waali - just for being the song itself.
ae ajnabi tu bhi kabhi - I was probably heartbroken those days..
pyaar yeh jaane kaisa hai - what a song.. it was my school days.
whenever i hear this song it just brings back the feel of old hostel
days. i love it.
tu hi rey - for Hariharan and beautiful melody
oh rey chori - this song makes me proud of being an arr fan. a
friend commented that he never heard a song with that kind of
contrast - indian folk and western classic!!! that is rahman
chup ke se.. lag jaa gale - sathiya - what a song!! i love
everything about this song. the song released about 3 years ago and
still i can feel something new every time i listen.
bombay - theme music - well... arr is the mozart of asia!!
Na shikwa hota - tehzeeb - beautiful song. nice beats.
kanaampoochi eneda - kandu konden kandu konden - i loved this song
along with its picturisation. Aishwarya rai never looked beautiful
like this before.
maargazhi tingalallavaa - (i donno the film) beautiful song..
unnikrishnan sounds really good. the girls voice is a bit
untolerable though!
Yeh rishta kya kehlaataa hai - minaxi - it has very catchy beats
and beautiful melody.. i wonder why it failed as an album. it is
still playing in my computer.
yeh jo des hai tera - arr - swades - oh god!! what a song!! i do
not have words to describe it. it will be remembered as a classic
saawariya saawariyaa - also nice, infact i like all the songs of
swades.
holi rey - mangal pandey - very happy song.
jhooth ka - saathiya - it is a very good situational song.. but
unnoticed.
i can choose a lot.. but let me stop it here.
