Some fans may not be satisfied with ARR`s work in RDB. In reality it is hard to churn out music enticing all of the music listeners. In my opinion RDB kind of music was not given before. Like many music fans I also listen to a variety of music right from hard rock till hip hop, rap and country music. This album certainly gives me another new stuff to listen to. This album seems to be a slow poison. I remembered somebody mentioning there will not be another Dil Se or Swades or Taal. I seem to completely agree with that fan. RDB is one of a kind. This album may not be a commercial hit. The songs go well with the name of the movie and I beg to be the same even after the release of the movie. The CD label was also designed wisely. I am hoping the CD/Cassette sales would improve after the release of the movie itself. I haven't heard ARR singing better that in Luka Chuppi. He has grown very well as a singer too. This album needs patience. I wish other fans also give some time. ARR has put a lot of effort and I completely support ARR in his search for new stuff. Any info on where this album was mixed and recorded in? Panchathan record inn or Shafee Studio 5 or both? I don't see that in the CD label. Any Non-ARR albums recorded in Shafee? Can anybody throw light on this? Nehaflix.com is very good. For US buyers I recommend to go for this site to get their copy of music CD. They are really quick. I got my copy within a week. I have been talking to one of the member of our group two days ago and was on the openion that RDB's music is not been properly promoted. only V channel is showing its music promos. so obviously lack of good promotion IS there. this is something that we already have discussed quiet long time ago, but, i am still on the openion that there should be a proper Artist website for A.R Rahman where the users can listen to all his upcoming productions, i mean just only a preview like other international artists are doing. hi all, I have two things to talk abt there. !!! 1) sivaji - the promo is gr8 and definitely carries a 'S' stamp. Rajni with a thick mush and a gottie looks dashing !! And the big thing i liked abt is our BOSS name rite below the name of the movie. ARR is a brand across the world that sells like hot pan cakes !! am happy to see arr name rite on top !! shankar knows how important our bosss contribution is to this project. 2) I have no words to express my happiness abt the album. i can understand hindi bit and pieces and feel that the lyrics have complemented the music in all aspects. i can see the lyrics fit well and makes us difficult to judge whether the lyric or the tune was first worked out. gr8 lyrics to suit the mood of the song. yuva had 'jaga laga buka' which was crap. the tamil version was gud. The album has got a lot of variation from instruments, to vocals and ranges from melody to heavy duty beats. simple: i luv it mite people will keep on comparing saying its not upto arr mark and all those stuff. tell me one MD who can even think close of lukka chuppi !!! if u say ur waiting for sivaji, i know after that releases the comment will be "its disappointing" what else do u expect. the music of RDB is not repeated anywhere b4 by ARR and unique in style. he is working his a** off day and night (sorry only nite) breaking his head to deliver something unique. Do you guys remember Ah Aah CD, (tamil) with 6 wondeful mindblowing tracks, but too much of bass in the programming of the CD quite spoilt it (you won't be able to feel it unless you listen to it on headphones) It had such nice songs and I wished the bass was lower. It never happened before in an ARR film. Anyone knows why it was that way. The CD credits both Shafee 5 and PAncahatan records inn. Hi, DTS 5.1 is a way that allows songs to be heard the same way it was meant to be. But now, I think only BOYS is in that format. ARR himself said about 70% is lost when making a conventional CD. And in the CD inlay, it is stated that it will sound exactly the same as in the recording studio.. Amazing isn't it? And about the preset, I don't think 1 preset would suit all of ARR's songs for eg. You use a certain preset for "secret of success" from boys. May be that preset would help bring out the electric guitar strongly,, but u cant use it for ale ale from the same movie, which is a melody.. I was amazed by the album.It was difficult to get hold on any indian cds here as i am in australia..But i tried hard and got one from Parametta...This is not a review or something,...its what i felt hearing the songs!! The Roobaroo song is very pleasent and inspiring.The guitar beats at the start in sync with the "ku ku koo" vocal gives a kind of boyish charm to the song.when master enters with the roobaroo roshni,I started to experience a "night-drive" feeling [in my opinion] and it was being under a spell!I enjoyed this a lot.Naresh Iyer is excelling here. Paathsaala 1&2.Both rocks! its amazing to see how masters finds out this brilliant fusions of instruments and brings it in perfect unison.At one instance,You can hear about a 50 different sounds playing together and none of them distracts us or makes it a noise! its one thing that can be done only by the one and only AR RAHMAN!In the beginning i felt resemblence to the "dating" song in boys.But it was just at the beginning and soon the song entered another dimension and i was amazed. Rang de basanti.The title song.I didnt had too much expectation about this song after the trailer.But when i heard the line "dhodi si dhok nivalli dak dak dak saasein",i got goosebumps.The way rahman made daler to sing that line alone is worth hearing this a 1000 times. Tu bin bataye is a great emotional song.sung beautifully by naresh and madhu.Madhusree sounds better in hindi [i hated her voice in mayileragee].This song is well executed and balanced.Naresh enters a bit late but,master gave him an amazing entry point.In his second line,the voice is applied with a slight flanging,and it multiplies the effect of his voice.I was always amazed in master's technical excellence.This is definitely an example of that brain! The khalbali song,.honestly i didnt hear it after the first time for one reason.I was too much addicted to the remaining songs!In my view,this song is not comparable to what he did with the other songs.But i am not worried at all about this.I got 9 other songs to thrill about! Khoon chala,is the cream of the crop.Its a mood song which gives you a vague imagery of the movie.A new voice and a western modulation gives fresh air for us to breath in and relax.When i heard the chorus "khoon chala",it reminded me of "aazaadi" from Boss.Great piece of work! [arr] Very thoughtful reflection on RDB's music
The following is not mine. It's from a music fan on another forum. His way of expressing quite impressed me so I thought I would share this with the group. Art, to me, is conversation. Whether it is a book, a movie or a song, it is about a person talking to me. I don't understand the finesse of music I could never tell a bad composition from a good one or a really good singer from an average one. What matters to me is how the artist connects with me. Does he, through the process of our conversation, help me define myself, or better yet, add some meaning to my life. If I don't connect with him instantly, there is no way in a million years that the song can grow on me. I guess that is why, while everyone took a while to appreciate Swades or TLOBS, I took an instant liking to them- the sensitive lyrics, the appropriately simple music and the vocals all complemented each other to make perfect sense to me. I guess that is where Rang De Basanti scores the most- it's like A.R. Rehman and Prasoon Joshi sat there and decided to make music for Saba Parkar. I have not felt this much fulfillment from a musical piece in such a long time I think the last time was with Black Friday's album. Each song covers a different aspect of my existence to eventually have the whole album satisfy me. (great, now it sounds like I'm talking about sex or sth ) Anyway, now for the songs individually let me tell you, I'm not writing a review. These are just reflections. Lalkaar: Bhagat Singh has always been my most favorite political figure in all of world history- an honest young man with passion for a cause that he fought for justly. So it comes as no surprise that the phrase he loved repeating has the utmost significance in my life- Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna Ab Humare Dil Mein Hai, first written by Ram Prasad Bismil and re-written by Prasoon Joshi. The words of the poem are intense as it is. It is taken to new levels by A.R Rehman's understated yet powerful music and Aamir Khan's powerful rendition. It is a magnificent tribute to the emotional strength and will-power of the young freedom-fighters who fought single-mindedly so that we can have the freedom to choose for ourselves today. `Door reh paaye jo humse, dum kahan manzil mein hai ?' wow ! Lukka Chuppi: I've looked everywhere- through books, movies, song, you name it, for that one piece that could encapsulate the depth of my relationship with my parents. I had almost given up on the search- I was always told I had to stay with my parents all my life and treat them like God or the other extreme, i.e.: once you grow up, parents aren't of any real consequence. The best I could find was probably Farida Jalal's relationship with Ajay Devgan in TLOBS. Now, I finally have a song that explores a beautiful relationship between a parent and a child- it is mature yet retains a certain child-like innocence. There is a parent who gives the child all the independence he needs but never stops worrying for his safety. There is a child who does think of his parents while exploring the beauty of the world beyond home. Lata, to my ears, has never sounded so beautiful- so motherly. I am glad A.R.Rehman sung his part- his voice has a certain rawness and sincerity that allows me to relate to the expression- more so than what a Sonu Nigam would have been able to do for me. And what Lata and Rehman do at the end- that whole re ga re ga sa sa sa rerere thing (see, I don't even know what it's called) if that is not beautiful, I don't know what is. Edited to add: I just read an article that says this song is sung by a mother at her son's funeral. Wow, I never thought of it that way. It makes for an even more emotionally charged experience. However, it's hard for me to get over my interpretation of the song. It will probably register after I watch the movie. Khalbali: 9/10 This such a fun song! A.R.Rehman sounds so Arabic! Though I would probably like it better if I understood ALL the lyrics haha. I'm still not sure if the word Khalbali is something in Arabic or what we generally refer to as `disturbance' in Urdu. Anyway, I have founds parts that I absolutely love. Especially the lines `hone hone de nasha khone khone ko hai kya? ek saans mein peeja, zara zindagi chhadha hai yeh to ek jashn tu thirakne de kadam ' so very standard Prasoon Joshi- the kind of thought process that I love him for- and really, no one uses the word `thirakne' the way Joshi does. When have you heard a group of youngsters sing `ghar bataake aaye hai' ever before ? I love it! Oh, and that sound of the glass shattering, that was just awesome. Talk about relevance Paatshaala (both versions): Haha, reminds me of the A.R.Rehman of my childhood just a flashback to all the songs I used to love as a kid- Muqabala, Columbus Columbus, Mustafa Mustafa, etc fun lyrics that would sound rather silly if you didn't have a taste for them- point being, I have a blas

It usually is the responsibility of the mixing engineer to bring out the mood of the song and ensure that it will resonate the same in the listeners systems. Most of the engineers I interact with (including my own mixes) create different destinations like tape, CD's etc and play it on different CD systems, car stereo systems and adjust the mix accordingly. So unless we know what exactly the reference destination was in this case, it is very difficult to get the same effect, unless you have those good Studio monitors. Remember how "Roja" sounded on those stereo tape players? EQ's won't help you much. Now, couple of people have thought about it (George Lucas with THX and Creative with EAX). For e.g. if the sound was created in a THX environment, and if you have a THX compliant player, you *will* hear the same as the producer wanted you to. But this again doesn't help audio CD's due to its limited dynamic range. DSD (Did anyone see this on CD covers?) to record SACDs is a step towards achieving this goal. Hi Gopal, One common thing which happens with any music production, atleast in US, is availability of sheet music for the sound tracks. This enables to learn, analyse the music and enjoy it from a different perspective. Although this is not directly related to your original request, this definitely would help spreading the music. Ofcourse you cannot put FX tracks in a sheet music, but basic chord tabs for the instruments involved would be more than enough. It also provides a decent source of income, even though only few (relatively) will be interested. Hello fellow Rahmaniacs. YuvaBGMs - 19 of them, including theatrical versions of two songs, Baadal and Hey khudahafiz, plus an additional loop uploaded. Unlike Lagaan and Swades, unfortunately, Yuva was not done in sync sound, meaning ARR had to add additional sounds into the BGM like traffic, phone, birds, etc. If Yuva was done in sync sound then baat hi kuch aur hoti, but they are still great because they are voiceless. Hey guys Was busy conducting this poll for the past few days for RDB.This poll had 15 of my friends.Urged them to buy a cd each which they did unwillingly.These people are not fans of ARR and are those who like the daily masala songs.(dhoom dhoom ,salaam namaste walas u know).after atleast 10 listenings this is what they had to say.RDB simply rocks.The pick of the album for them was Paathshala and surprisingly, yes "Tu Bin bataye".Only a few said that "khoon chala " was kinda ok. Most of them loved "luka chuppi". the title track was also appreciated .They found it hard to believe that Roobaro was composed by ARR . [arr] Listen to RDB on headphones to feel the music
Belive me listen to RDB on headphones. Each and every song has a feel to it which u will easily miss out when listening on any speakers be it sony or BOSE or etc. But on my IPOD the album sounds so different. For eg in the song "Tu Bin Batayee " when Naresh Iyer starts to sing. The music in the background ( i dont know the name of the instruments ) just melts my heart. Its an awesome feeling which cant be expreseed. Each and every song has something in it which u will miss out without good headphones. What happened? Prabu deva has become an old man? What happened to their rocking 90s combos. This combo proved to be one of the most exciting in the 90s regardless of the director like Khadalan, Love Birds and Mr Romeo. And also in Gentleman. Prabu Deva had danced to many of ARR's best songs in his career, both their careers in fact. Then in the late 90s, prabu devas popularity declined rapidly due to his foolish choices of movies and his switch to Deva's camp. IMO big mistake.. The preset settings in winamp or discman i tried. Sadly only the high treble , high bass setting world best for ARR song. Unless there is a CD which has in built settings to be invented and ARR codes the song according to inidivual presets like the way he intends to and the nformation read by the player. Such a scheme will have to be universal if not the whole idea will not work. Again it is not necessary as ARR already records according to his "sound athethestics" like eg. A song written by Vairamuthu and tuned by A.R.Rahman will be picturised on Rajni and Shriya along with 150 dancers choreographed by Raju Sundaram.This song will take four days for completion. Tight security has been clamped at the film city with AVM issuing swipe cards for entry into the floor where the song is being picturised. Not even a single still from the shoot will be issued to the media for the time being. AVM has come out today with their first newspaper ad announcing the start of the shoot of Sivaji with a tagline -The boss. Umm, now thats a great thought.. by Ramasamy...imagine if we can hear the songs exactly has it was intended sound by the music maker.. imagine when you play a song your player automatically sets the equalisers according to the music maker's setting.. now, I guess thats a technology not yet invented.. Hi, The problem is in ur cd-player. U try the same cd on different player---u'll not find problems. I have 4 cd-players, and sathiya doesn't play correctly in my cd-man, taal doesn't run well in Sony GRX9000. I told it to Sony---they admit that it's a code problem related to players.
