Re: [arr] Disappointed
Yeah right. You must be very proud of how ATM got him fame. Such beautiful tacks were wasted. I think he must choose his Tamil projects carefully, like for Mani, Shankar or Gautam. Not debutants and stuff. And anyways choosing 10 of his best movies is difficult for all of us including him :) On 11/20/07, anishshreya [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Guys, I am quite saddedned by the fact that when asked to name 10 best scores..boss..just named Roja and Kandukonden for tamil. [arr] RAJOURI GARDEN CONCERT
http://jaiarjun.blogspot.com/2007/11/rahman-at-rajouri-and-delhi-metro.html Rahman at Rajouri At the *A R Rahman* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._R._Rahman concert in Rajouri Garden last night: after one song had ended and before the next began, the maestro walked to the edge of the stage, gave an admonishing look to the audience and said in a very strained voice, Please do stop taking videos with your cellphones and cameras. The next thing we know, you'll be putting these videos up on YouTube. The exclusive rights for this show are with [such-and-such channel], so kindly cooperate. Thank you. Then he walked back to the side of the stage where he'd been standing at what we thought was a keyboard – but clearly he'd been surfing the net all along, checking YouTube updates. Jokes aside, I understand the position Rahman is in (as an artiste with copyright issues to deal with in the problematic age of the Internet, and probably facing pressure from his corporate partners) and why he needed to give that warning. But something about the incident – the slightly grouchier-than-necessary tone and the way it disrupted the flow of the proceedings (we were looking forward to the next song, and after this tear in the curtain between the performer and the audience it took us some time to get back into the zone) – made it representative of the show for me. The concert was good on the whole, but it wasn't spectacular. Something was missing, the vital connect between the star and his audience that live-music buffs sometimes call The Vibe. Rahman looked a little bored and distanced at times, and I'm not sure this could be put down to his natural introversion; he seemed not to be entirely satisfied about something. (He did cheer up towards the end, though maybe that was *because* the show was ending!) Also, there was a coordination problem in some of the group numbers – some members of the troupe, Aslam Khan for instance, didn't appear to be in sync with the others. The songs – all very good in their own right, of course – came and went randomly and there wasn't much of an effort to maintain a flow from one to the next; the conclusion of nearly every number was followed by a 30-40-second pause while the musicians prepared for the next. (This was in stark contrast to *the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy show*http://jaiarjun.blogspot.com/2006/10/at-qutub-fest.htmlat Qutab last year.) There also wasn't much of an effort to extract maximum mileage out of the songs that are obvious crowd-pleasers: for instance, Paathshala (from *Rang de Basanti*http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rang_De_Basanti) came and went in the blink of an eye, and so did Chaiya Chaiya. (Personally speaking, I was divided between relief that everyone around me wasn't waving their arms around and leaping up and down – very phobic about these situations – and the feeling that things were a little too subdued. I know Rahman's best work is more the grow-on-you variety than S-E-L's instant-appeal chartbusters, but some attempt at a buildup would have been nice.) Anyway, some of the good things now: a great solo performance by percussionist *Sivamani* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sivamani, some excellent singing by *Hariharan*http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hariharan_%28singer%29, *K S Chithra* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K._S._Chithra, *Sadhana Sargam*http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadhana_Sargam, *Kailash Kher* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kailash_Kher and Nidhi Mohan (a relatively new member of the Rahman troupe), and Rahman's own rendition of the rousing orchestra piece from the *Guru soundtrack*http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guru_%282007_film%29#Music, Jaage Hain. (Though his oeuvre is too large and varied for him to fit all his career highlights into a three-hour-show, I did miss one of my all-time favourites, Ae Ajnabi from *Dil Se*http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dil_Se#Soundtrack.) Also, the visuals on the screen in the centre of the stage were consistently freaky: a montage of sinister-looking flowers opening and closing their buds as if to devour any living being that got within reach, a goofy silent-movie scene of a couple necking ardently (when the romantic songs played), sundry other colourful things. *P.S.* We were in two minds about going for the concert – it meant a one-and-a-half hour trip each way at a time of year when Delhi's traffic is worse than usual, and these shows are often chaotic affairs, even if you have what are amusingly referred to as VIP passes (once the show is in full sway and people start standing up and moving around, any privileges that come with a Rs 5,000 ticket as opposed to a Rs 500 one quickly disappear – must have something to do with music being a great leveller). But once we'd made up our minds, we decided to do the *Delhi Metro*http://www.delhimetrorail.com/commuters/index.htmlthing. Parked the car at Connaught Place, took the train to Rajouri Garden. It was very pleasing to see the well-maintained underground station; could even

Fortunately or unfortunately, my wife liked my new look.. she insisted that I should keep it. (Laughs) I had no other alternative but to listen to my wife. Does your style of composing music change when you do an international project like Elizabeth: The Golden Age? The music for Elizabeth.. has been co-composed by me. When Shekhar started the project, he wanted to make it very artistic and dark. But then, he decided to make the film more entertaining.. and the music more pulsating. As a composer, I'd say music stems from one's emotions. So, there's absolutely no difference in my approach, whether I'm composing for Jodhaa Akbar or Elizabeth. When you look back, how do you assess your music? Roja set the standard for me as a composer. And frankly, I can't guage where to go after Elizabeth. Let's see.. at this very point of time, I'm very excited about my next international album - The Lord of The Rings which will be released on December 10. It has many as 15 tracks. As much as 2 pounds would be spent a day on the orchestration. I believe you have started your own music company. Yes. It's called K M Musiq. I'm really kicked about it. All these years, I was being commissioned by others.. now I can commission others. But it seems you now insist on royalty foreverymusicscore..whichiswhyyou couldn't compose for Om Shanti Om. In life, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You have to take certain risks to reach your goal. Which have been your most vital steps ahead? Undoubtedly Vande Mataram and , the score for the stage musical Bombay Dreams. What do you find wrong with the Indian film music industry? There are several problems. The saddest thing is that no one takes acoustic instruments seriously. Most musicians just prefer to work on keyboards. But I've stopped getting angry One should . be true to one's own self.. because one candle can light a million. Do you still work like an owl all night and sleep by day? That's rubbish! If that was true, I wouldn't be sitting here with you doing an inteview in the afternoon. I work at night, occasionally , whenever I'm dealing with a jet lag situation, not otherwise. How busy are you as a music director right now? I'm into a somewhat more relaxed pace now. There was a time when I'd be doing six Tamil and two to three Hindi films a year. How many Tamil films are you working on at this point of time? (Laughs) Ha! That's a good question. I wish I knew the answer. I'm doing two Tamil films â Sultan, the animation film being made by Rajnikant's daughter Soundarya and Prabhu's Sakkarakkatti. And Hindi films? Well, let me see. Gajini, Ada, Jaane Tu Naa Jaane Naa, Delhi 6, the Hindi dubbed version of the Rajnikant movie Sivaji, Subhash Ghai's Main Hoon Yuvraj and Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar. You were against the idea of composing for dubbed films. So, how did you make an exception for Sivaji? You're right there.I don't encourage the dubbing of my songs in other languages. Yes, so Sivaji is an exception. It has beaty foot-tap , ping music which should connect on an all-India level. You are often accused of working for big production banners at the cost of small films. Sorry, that isn't true at all. Otherwise, I wouldn't be doing Sakkarakkatti which is a small film. Are you composing the music for an animation film called Cockroach being planned by Shekhar Kapur? Yes. I'm excited about that. Animation films allow your imagination to take flight. What do you like about your music? That's a tricky question. If I say I like my music, I'll be blowing my own trumpet. And if I say I don't like my music, I'll sound disgruntled. Some film producers in the South have accused you of recruiting Hindi singers to do the playback for your Tamil films at their cost. I will gladly plead guilty of that. Because I don't believe in parochialism. On the other hand, if I feel that a Tamil singer

A special mention abuot blaaze,in one word,he is just an amazing guy..he is an original peice :) He was so down to earth and was so fun to talk...when press guys came to him and asked for an interview,he was talking to us,he made them wait and he continued our conversation..he was absolutly great..and he gave us something special, which i cant disclose :P During Reharsals we were very much near the stage. When the first song was about to be reharsed,we were at backstage..Then we heard Jodhaa Akbar song..the first peice was just played,we realised tht it was from JA,we ran towards the stage..They had a 2 huge speakers..and as i neard it..they started it..azeemon shan shensha...mahrabaaa...wow...it was just amazinggg...unbeleivable..as it proceeded, and i thought it would end with rahman singing Jalaludin akbar then i got a shocker..the drums played on..with chorus singing ...0(Rukmani song,Roja)...then another shocker..rahman started Verapandi Kottayile...and beleive me it was amazing moment coz the way rahman mixed these 3 songs was just superb..cant describe it in words..Then...other songs were performed,i had tears in my eyes when i saw rahman reharse Tere Bina..amazing... During reharsals, hariharan was messing up with Yun hi Chala song(in concert also he messed it to an extend),rahman had problems with chorus singing of Chayyian Chayyian..and it was around 11.30,rahman said that we will have a break now..we went to backstage, hoping to meet rahman. At 11.50pm rahman came down..and as he was singing a autograph,i saw him for first time.he was just near me..and as he heard tht we were from yahoo group, his eyes lit up and he saidoh is it? ..tht was amazing...he was damn busy and tired...still i cudnt resist asking rahman for a pic..i asked him sir..oru photo edukulama,he was kind enough to sayellapa, rombo velai eruku,approma...i had no regrets...talking to him was such a great thing for meAlso it was great to see the respect of each and ever crew member for rahman..tht was great.. The Concert Day : 17th November. The day had finally arrived.First we all started out to meet vijay and gops. They both had gone to rahman's hotel to arrange a meeting for us fans..but rahman had gone to dargah..to it didnt materialise. Then as rest of guys came..shiva,sirish,ravi..we all went to concert venue..Gops and vijay got a backstage pass,we guys moved to 1500 place. We were eagerly waiting for the show to start and it did a 1 hr late.Well am not going to tell about each and every song..the whole performance was rocking one..the best moment for me was tht triple combo of Jodhaa Akabar-Roja-Thiruda Thiruda..tht was amazing man. People were crazy for Athiradee..but we at 1500rs place had a rocking time..shouting,dancing...singing along..it was amazing..I had a lady near me and she is a great fan of arr.she was a north india, when they played chandralekha song.tht lady unaware of it..asked me ,is this song from any rahman's new movie..i said..madamji this song was released before 12 yrs :P .The sound effects were great, the show was for me an error free...ARR was at his amazing interactive best,he was like a rockstar... Vijay and gops went on to stage to release pray for me brother Colouring books. It was one of the best moments for me..i have never enjoyed like this in my life before and am sure this,i wont have another day like this again in my life..coz it was was special..somethin special. We had a great time..jumping..and the crowd went crazy as soon as RDB title track was played.Everyone were dancing like somethin..i had taken loads of pics..with help of sirirsh cam.I took about 260 pics :P We werent able to see Vande Matram coz we had to run to backstage as soon as possible to have any chance of meeting rahman, but we were late. Those stupid police guys didnt allow us..they messed it up,as soon as we went in,rahman moved out..Yes i was sad,but i was happy

Regarding 'Ada', I got this interesting brief info from arr4music.com... Cast - Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar Director - Tanveer Ahmed Presenter - Jhamu Sugandh - all songs recorded. - 1 qawwali by Richa Sharma - Its a generational family drama which spans four generations. Dilip Kumar will represent the first generation and Amitabh the second. It is said that one of the Khans will be signed to play the role of the third generation, while newcomers will represent the fourth generation. - Ada is a film about four generations. Dilipsaab and Amitji fit into their roles very well. Now, I have to sign on two more people for the other roles. A.R.Rahman has done a wonderful job with the music. He has recorded six songs, all of which are potential chartbusters. : Tanvir Ahmed. - It's true that Rahman has recorded all the nine songs at a go. Normally, he records one or two songs in the beginning and the balance songs subsequently, but he decided to complete all the songs at a stretch this time. - Tanveer Ahmed. CURRENT STATUS - Rahman has completed all the songs for this movie. But nothing has been heard about this movie since the initial announcements. Recent reports in Tamil media says that Tanveen Ahmed is doing a film titled Khazan with music by Rahman. His forthcoming film is called Kazan. It is said to be a sex and crime thriller directed and produced by Tanveer Ahmed. Almost eighty percent of the shooting is over. Three new girls make their debut in this film. [arr] Maestro from Madras
A. R. Rahman, the stage and screen composer, is one of the top selling artists in the world today. He talks to Paul Sexton about his career, his inspiration and why he’s not averse to a bit of Deep Purple. Many of the London neighbours of A.R.Rahman probably have no idea there’s an artist in their midst whose sales worldwide are estimated at an astonishing 100 million albums. But even those with no particular affinity with Indian music, or the 50-plus films in which Rahman’s work has featured, may have enjoyed his compositions at the Theatre Royal in London’s Drury Lane. Rahman is the composer who, along with Finnish folk act Värttinä, has brought Middle Earth to musical life, writing the score of the West End smash The Lord of the Rings. Rahman, who has lived in London for a decade and has just joined PRS from Indian society IPRS, already has 15 years of film soundtracks to his name, not to mention his music for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 2002 stage blockbuster Bombay Dreams. As I chat to the Tamil composer, who plays keyboards, guitar, harmonium and percussion and also sings, he starts to list his current projects, but loses me after the first half dozen. But in November, we’ll hear Rahman on the big screen again as the co-composer, with Scotland’s Craig Armstrong (Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge), of the biggest release of the year, The Golden Age. Directed by his fellow Indian Shekhar Kapur, who made the 1998 movie Elizabeth, it’s the story of the relationship between Queen Elizabeth I (played by Cate Blanchett) and Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen). Rahman’s work on the silver screen has led to frequent international touring in which he plays his film hits to huge live audiences. Earlier this year he played one of his regular US tours, accompanied by a touring troupe that he says has slimmed down a little — it used to comprise 130 people on stage, now he travels with a mere 70. ‘Most of the numbers are hits from my films, and people have grown up with those songs, a whole generation,’ he says. ‘So for them it’s nostalgic.’ Last year, Rahman and orchestra played the Hollywood Bowl. ‘That was one of the most exciting things for us,’ he smiles. ‘There it was, an almost 80 per cent white American audience, and the response was amazing. At the end they were all dancing. That can open up your mind. ‘My American audience is mostly Asian, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi; people who grew up in the US. We get this particular group from Japan as well. 12 people who come everywhere, and they have T-shirts saying: “Rahman come to Japan.” We’re looking at it.’ His voyage to such prominence may look like a cruise, but it came through choppy waters, and Rahman himself initially thought his soundtrack career was over almost before it had begun. He had studied at Trinity College, Oxford, graduating with a degree in Western classical music. When he returned home, his first steps in soundtracking were uncertain, but they produced incredible results. ‘The first film I ever did, I got paid £250 for working for six months,’ he says of the 1992 Tamil language release Roja. ‘It was 25,000 rupees. The producer said “This is the amount I give every composer when they start.” I didn’t have enough money for petrol for my car. I survived by doing commercials, and playing as a session musician. ‘The first soundtrack was a very strange mindset, I thought it was going to be my last film. I felt completely drained, I said: “I can’t write another note of music”. But it became a huge hit and crossed over to the north, then people keep calling you to write more. I couldn’t think, then slowly things started coming, and I started working with different people.’ That first score was recognised at the country’s National Film Awards, where he became the first composer to win with a debut soundtrack. Rahman has won the award three times since. Last year, Roja was selected by Time magazine’s Richard Corliss as one of the five best soundtracks in cinema history. ‘This astonishing debut work parades Rahman’s gift for alchemising outside influences until they are totally Tamil, totally Rahman,’ he wrote. ‘He plays with reggae and jungle rhythms, fiddles with

[arr] Blog comment on Delhi concert
Neeti Mohan, member of the A R Rahman troupe, is a member of the indipop band, Aasma. This was the second band selected by Channel V after VIVA. She was a dance instructor with Asley Lobo dance Academy earlier. The other member of the troupe you've referred to is Aslam Mohammad. I've also heard that members of his troupe include Sukhwinder and Udit Narayan too though I'm not sure whether they accompany him for all shows. Kailash, I know for sure, makes it to most of his shows. I personally thought that the show was in itself divided in two categories; the veteran singers (Hariharan, Sadhna and Chitra) and the newer lot (Kailash, Naresh Iyer, Aslam, Neeti etc). The ones in the new bracket clearly hadn't done their homework and in Patshala which was actually a group song it was very evident. Everyone looked lost and fumbled with lyrics. Yuhin Chalachal Rahi, from Swades, wasn’t up to the mark especially as Hariharan and Kailash looked lost at one point while the music continued. That said, Kailash’s impromptu “aalaps” were fantastic and his voice range is his biggest asset. Rahman is a huge brand and his music (not the “shosha” attached) is the only reason why people attend his live shows. He doesn’t believe in embellishing live shows with too much drama and I went fully prepared for it -- though I thought that the colourful stage will end up having completely electric (partly in reference to Doell’s comment). And though I agree that Rahman’s very shy and awkward with crowds (he hardly gives interviews, works best at nights, in seclusion), my problem with Delhi’s show was that it didn’t have a neat finish. I can’t think of a good reason why a show shouldn’t be packaged well. And somewhere it is a necessity (especially in such live shows) for some sort of connection with audiences. In the Delhi show, Hariharan managed to achieve that partly though it was Sivamani who eventually managed to pull off a fantastic conversation with the audiences. Sivamani doesn’t talk in Hindi or Punjabi and I remember meeting him long ago and he seemed very uncomfortable chatting even in English. But in shows (I’ve seen him perform thrice with Louis Banks) he invariably ends up giving people a damn good time. He has a jugalbandi directly with the audiences and even this time he simply let his music do all the talking. A major problem with the show was that there was simply no continuity. It is criminal to have such frequent breaks in a 180-minute live show. There’s obviously no comparison but still I’ll mention Euphoria. I’ve attended innumerable Euphoria shows and though Palash goofs up all the time on “sur”, his energy level, his voice range, and his connection with audiences is pretty remarkable. My music teacher had attended a Euphoria show with me and hated it. “Not one song was in ‘sur,’ but if audiences are enjoying and if he’s singing non-stop it is commendable.” she had said. And I’ve seen Euphoria do innumerable Rahman songs too in their shows. They weave songs after songs in one show and package it nicely. Which is what Rahman, despite having the best music in the industry, failed to do. So we didn’t hear O Humdum, or Humma or Rang De Basanti or Chalka (unless he sang all these in the last 15 minutes of the show, which I had to miss unfortunately). Another observation, despite having some wonderful, classical-oriented songs, the show in the middle began to drag profusely. Sadhna, for instance, gave a beautiful rendition of ‘Chupke se’ -- her hit from Saathiya. But after the mukhda and the first antara, some other singer should have taken a cue and started another song. Unfortunately this song dragged till the very end and then we had other few rounds of mellow numbers... The mood, from an audience point of view, should change continuously -- which once again brings us to the problem of continuity. From what I’ve seen and heard of how select few bands approach live shows (most of this obviously happens backstage) they do a mock rehearsal, have a piece of paper ready (usually with the keyboard player because he/she needs to change keys and tempo first for other musicians (guitarists, percussionists etc) to eventually follow. Everything happens continuously and you’ll see lead singers and musicians constantly interacting with each other on stage even if they’re jumping and doing their own thing. That’s what was missing here. I don’t think singers even knew which song was coming up next (At one point Rahman even said dully, “Okay now I’ll play another song. This should be able to excite you...”). Rahman’s own voice though is like a wonderful reverb, having a lot of volume, a lot of depth. I loved every minute when he began singing -- Naresh’s Rubaroo rendition sounded even better when Rehman sang (so what if they were just the chorus lines). But yes, on the whole, I would agree that the concert wasn’t superlative. Looking at the stage I thought it would be completely electrifying. But when I looked closely, I saw there

After a series of lies and saving up money-I finally reached Delhi. And the first thing we see when we landed was this huge AR Rahman Live In Delhi hoarding!! It was convincing that the event was going to be big!! Thanks Varun for the wonderful hospitality, can't be greatful enough for your sweetness. The afternoon I met the group co-ordinator of the group Pawan (Pawancumarr). Needless to say another sweetheart-Thank you Pawan for all that you did, on behalf of the group let me thank you for receiving us well in Delhi and entertaining us ( Vijay, smile please!!). Varun and Pawan, to the two of them this was the first concert and the excitement was obvious, so was mine-but having worked in the Bangalore concert-I knew that much more than the actual concert the rehearsal day is more pleasant for the fans. It seemed like we were entering some fantasy land then-or should I say, It was a fantasy-to be walking and talking with the people who together with ARR give us what we get to hear and to be under this wonderful community. Forgive me again for writing this on a very personal viewpoint, but I hope you guys understand what it is to be with such people. The first one in the list was Sayanora Philip. Thankfully acquainted with her-the entry into the musical camp was even easier. We spoke for almost an hour-snapped photos, one of the best ever! For those who are not familiar with this name-Sayanora is the voice behind Sivaji's Athiradee and a few other popular non ARR numbers in both Malayalam and Tamil. We got introduced to Tanvi Shah- the stunning voice that sang Fanaaa fron Yuva/Ayutha Ezhutu complimentary to ARR's high pitched voice and numbers like Jillunu oru Kadhal to name a few. A few more clicks. A few more smiles and poses. Tons of satisfaction. But most importantly, it's the feeling that Humbles you down-that people who share the stage with ARR, are here with us for an hour or more-talking about our group, Rahman, the malls and the dust in Delhi!! I'm sure Varun and Pawan agree-it was almost like we knew Tanvi and Sayanora for ages. Artists entered one after another-Aslam, Hariharan, Blaaze, Murtaza and Qadir, Neeti, Kailash Kher and the rest made entry one by one. Most of them we were able to catch up with, talk to and take snaps with-while the others were just too busy rehearsing. Blaaze recognized me-all I had to say was Yahoo! And Bangalore and almost like lightning he comes up with Aah Dude-Yo! I remember! How can I forgot you guys!?? He spoke to for us a long time again-and more interesting trivia on ARR-how he works and how he makes things work. He spoke about how he unexpectedly made his debut with B to the A to the B .and no looking back after that-rightfully as put by some newspaper BLAAZE-Blaazing with Rahman!! Guys don't shoot me for this one-Blaaze showed us and spoke to us about some upcoming surprises by ARR!! All I can say is I can't wait! And as promised to Blaaze, we won't talk about it. And let it all come as a surprise-worth the wait! By this time we were all lost in a new world-dashing shoulders with singers and bumping into media people who would just have one question Has ARR Arrived? Almost half past seven-A Black 5 series BMW, sleek and long makes an entry. And quietly putting his left foot down was the man whose music features in TIME's all time top ten, whose music lists as multiple entries in the oscar and the same man who brought us all together- AR Rahman. The first thought was-I can die right now and I'll have no regrets, the happiness you get when one sees this man is multi-himalayan in heights! But No! Wait for the rehearsals. The stage was not completely ready- the production team was working-hammers and tools. The musicians were busy tuning their instruments and Mr. KJ Singh and H Sridhar were busy checking for minute specifications, whilst ARR dressed in a black Formal Blazer supervised the whole stage. It looked chaotic- everyone one stage running about-the mics kept on and you can hear commands in Hindi English and Tamil. There is a sudden silence and there was a familiar sound-it sounded like JA-or was it running in your mind-again it played and yes it was-Marhaba!! 40 drummers and a huge chorus lead by Rahman played this masterpiece Marhaba-over and over again. [arr] Rahman's magical spell in the capital
The music wizard A.R. Rahman was at his magical best. His first ever live concert held in the capital city on last Saturday (November 17), was a grand success in terms of its mesmerizing effect on the audiences. Music maestro A.R. Rahman cast a magical spell over his audiences, as he sang some of his all-time popular compositions, including Khalbali and Pathshala. The grand stage had LCD screens flanking both wings, scores of steps leading up to a tiny balcony on one side, and was lit up by colourful lights. Rahman captivated the audience with a rare musical fare that had songs ranging from 'Roja Jaaneman' (from the film Roja) and 'Kehna hi kya' (Bombay) to more recent hits like 'Khalbali' (Rang de Basanti), and 'Barso re Megha' (Guru). The hit numbers of the latest blockbuster 'Sivaji' and a musical score from the yet-to-be-released 'Jodha Akbar', too were sung to the delight of the audience. The pony-tailed Hariharan, Chitra, Madhushree, Sadhna Sargam and Delhi's own boy Kailash Kher, accompanying Rahman in the concert. Ace drummer Sivamani enthralled the audience with his incredible marathon-drumming spell. The sets changing with each song, and the dancers performing alongside the crooning maestros provided some spectacular visual treat to the musical show. Rahman, who was dressed in a white sherwani, changed into a dull purple kurta mid way through the concert and sat on the piano to perform his English number 'Pray for me brother'. It is a melodious song that appeals people to fight poverty. I hope you will support me in my fight against poverty, Rahman said. He also launched a set of colouring books, the earnings of which will go to his foundation that works for humanitarian causes. Though the open-air venue at Rajouri Garden in west Delhi was not packed due to the huge pricing of tickets (between Rs.500 and 5,000 per ticket), the concert was memorable for the ones who were present there. The sight of the crowd giving standing ovation while Hariharan sang 'Bharat humko jaan se pyara hai' was an emphatic sign to show that the fare was a hit. I hope you enjoy the concert, Rahman said to the audiences, who were spellbound and screaming for more. http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/34753.html

Undoubtedly Vande Mataram and , the score for the stage musical Bombay Dreams. What do you find wrong with the Indian film music industry? There are several problems. The saddest thing is that no one takes acoustic instruments seriously. Most musicians just prefer to work on keyboards. BTW, what do you say anything about Humma Humma picturization, 1947, Meenaxi songs? :) Anish: I would rather see 'Bombay', 'Dil Se' and 'Guru' as tamil movies So 5 : 5 :).. As someone said, ARR does not write lyrics. Pretty good point. Also, see, the same tune sounds good in both Tmail Hindi (for e.g. Dil Se). If it were composed for a particular language, it should not have been good in tamil right? ARR may have chosen movies based on his satisfaction. After spending months composing music for a movie, if the movie does not do well (Because of story / screen play / heroism, ...), one would definitely get disappointed. For him, probabaly, to feel satisfied, the movie needs to do well in BoxOffice also. Thiruda Thiruda, Mr. Romeo, May Madham, Duet, En Swasa Katre songs were major hit here. But then those movies flopped in BO. It's natural for anyone to feel disappointed. Recent example being SOK. Don't say songs were not recognized. Everyone loves those songs... But If the movie had succeeded, they would have got more appreciation. Did you hear that Rahman liked the movie and said that it was a good entertainer that he watched after a long time (said by director bharhathan in an interview)?
