[arr] Re: Aaromale Female Version (FULL)

2010-05-14 Thread DineshVaidya
I downloaded this version and made my friend ( who is hardcore smooth-jazz fan
) listen to it. He enjoyed the track immencely and wanted to know whether some
a or b or c or z from the American jazz circuit had composed it ?

He was full of admiration when he was "proudly" told that ARR has composed it
and decided to listen to his tracks more in future..

VTV is cerrainly a great Tamil album but Aaromalee is THE BEST for its
radically different music arrangement,

Absolute SMOOTH JAZZ !

I have always maintained that ARR is a true Jazz style composer / Musician (
unstructured and absolutely from the heart ) and to be one is a very very
gifted thing !

Thanks Pratap for this great piece of song.

2010-05-14 Thread Anish Gupte
Hello Taimur,

I personally don't think there is any need for you to apologize to anyone.
Your opinions are your own, and you are completely entitled to them. You
don't have to agree with anyone just for the sake of it.

Having said that, one cannot expect others to agree with your thoughts
either. If you haven't liked Raavan, and others have, so be it. You have
your reasons, if others dont agree with them, or have a different point of
view, accept it, and move on. You don't have to change your opinions just to
satisfy others.

Even I have not liked Raavan's music much. I wrote my own review about it a
few weeks ago, and since then I have hardly posted anything about the album
on this group. I realize most ppl will not agree /get worked up etc . I dont
want any of that. Sometimes the best thing to do is to keep quiet and not
comment much, esp if u realize ur the minority. (in this case, most ppl have
fallen in love with the music of Raavan, so we are kind of the minority).

BTW: u mentioned sun ri sakhi---> awesome song..i just heard it after a long
time.

Yes! I was there! :)

What an evening! I'm still so excited! :)

Awesome experience! This was the best Audio launch I've been to!
Lovely evening, very well planned, and very well organised ... The format of
the show was very much similar to the Raavan (Hindi) audio launch... The
beautiful forest set on the stage was also similar! :)

Actor Karthik and Priya Mani were MCs for the evening. Actors Prithviraj,
Prabhu, Vikram were called on to the stage, one by one, separated by
performances. .

Singer Karthik's Usurey Pogudhey was the first... Awesome
performance singer Karthik and Dr Narayan with
live strings (Srinivasa Moorthy sir conducted it)...

The second performance was dance by Vikram and co for Kodu potta song...
The third one was bigger!! AR and Vairamuthu came up to the stage for the
"unreleased" song "Naan Varuvaen"! AR mentioned that this was done after all
songs were closed, a very late idea struck them, which led to creation of this
song. He also mentioned that this song is used during an important part of the
movie...

Kalvarey was the only full song that was screened therehalf of Kodu potta
was shown, and a montage of clips of the movie was shown with usurey pogudhey
and Veera as the background. And the trailer was also screened...
I loved the way Kalvarey was picturised.. . only Mani sir can do it! So simple,
but elegant Most part of the song is shot in a house - on the porch, in the
kitchen, in the bedroom, as ash is shown dancing throughout moving about the
house along with Prithviraj!

My expectations are raising higher and higher! Cant wait for the movie

Here are some pics that I clicked at the event! :)

[arr] Re: HT Interview

2010-05-14 Thread jayram
Dear Rawat,

I partially agree to your concern. Its real pity if some master pieces by ARR
does not get incorporated into the movie.

Another problem is that some songs might be placed in totally unnecessary or
unusual part of the movie and thereby weakening the whole impact of the song.

The first time I saw Kannathil Muthamital, I was shocked when "Vezhai Pookal"
was played in the background when Nanditha and other Srilankan Tamils are stuck
in a storm during their journey from Srilanka to Tamil Nadu. I was imagining a
totally different place for the this wonderful song. Also only part of the song
was played.

But overall, we need to be thankful to Maniratnam Sir. No other director has
given so much life and visual treatment to ARR sir's songs.

How can we forget songs from "Alai Payudey" or "Dil Se", which were pure visual
treat ? Mani Sir's visualization took these songs all together to a different
level.

Maniratnam and ARR is always a rare-combination.

Jai Ho,
Jayram

[arr] Re: HT Interview

2010-05-14 Thread Rivjot
Agree with Rawat for most of the parts. Directors/producers come and say make a
song... ARR spends days/weeks making that song, lyricist gives words, singers
come to sing, and then mixing etc (rest of the stuff that is to be done for the
song).. after everything is ready, director comes and says we dont need that
song anymore; it doesnt fit our story (did you not know this before?). It can
get annoying (imagine urself working on some project or assignment for weeks
and then getting to know that there was no need to do it) especially for an
'overworked' and busy person (like ARR).

Imagine the time he must have spent for 3 songs of Mani sir's movie.. only if
he wasnt asked to do these extra songs and if he had taken some rest, spent
time with the family.. or if not, worked on some other project (e.g. Rajiv
Menon's project *sighs*).

I am amazed and appreciate the humbleness of ARR : "It's not about having done
a great song or having worked hard on the music. It's always about what's good
for the movie." - in that case directors/producers should know what exactly
fits the movie instead of making a person 'overwork'

The three Oscar winners, A R Rahman, Resul Pookutty and Gulzar, who took
India to the Acadamy Awards with their contribution to the award-winning
Slumdog Millionaire, were seen once again sharing the same platform.

Only this time, it wasn’t for Danny Boyle! It was a literary do in honour of
sound expert Resul and the legendary musician Rahman and lyricist Gulzar
graced the event where the Governor of Maharashtra K Sankaranarayan was the
chief guest.

It’s not often that you get to see the trio together, what with all three of
them leading such busy ‘musical’ lives. So to watch them and support Resul,
many celebs turned up on Friday evening at a suburban five star hotel. S
Sreesanth, Parvati Omnakuttan, Priyanka Shah,

Tisca Chopra, Raj Zutshi, Aditya Hitkari with wife Divya Palat, and others
were present too.

2010-05-14 Thread V S Rawat
ARR had said that Mani gave him "minimal" guidelines for developing
any song, just a rough situation, and leaving remaining to ARR to come
up with the song. So, I think Mani is not interfering in the song
creating process, that might be a connotation of being the boss.

Still, he has to fit song in the film and if he got 3 songs developed
that he couldn't fit in the movie now, that is just poor utilization
of his skills and resources that he has got a genie called ARR who
will create great music for him, so he misuses ARR talents and makes
him develop songs that has no place in the film.

He didn't put thayya thayya in dil de. that was the smallest song of
the album, just one stanza, how long was it? 3 min? 4 min? and how can
he couldn't find a 5 min slot for such a great song in his film? He
could have shown at least the location where he wanted to put this
song, the way Bose had just first two lines of that female lori.

I think Mani doesn't take ARR's music seriously if he wastes 3 songs
of ARR.

I don't think anyone felt bad at your criticism of Ravan

because we all ravan lover know in our heart that ravan is great and
we are happy to get our vintage arr of 90s back after a decade in ravan.

I think only those feel bad on criticism who have some iota of doubt
in their mind about the quality of a song. When we are absolutely sure
that it is great song, we don't feel bad at criticism, we feel pity on
the persons who don't get to like such a great album.

Hello Taimur :)

1st of all you're excusing all Rahmaniacs for "your" criticism on Raavan
music again you're asking apology to those Rahmaniacs who felt bad about
"your" frequent down ratings of Raavan.

I can really understand your conditions here and got traumatized looking at
your sense and sensibilities. .. I think ironically you have a dual state of
mind based on which you listen to music and compose emails... and others got
confused...

Pls excuse me or I ask you apology if you feel bad (however I'll not dare to
excuse you if I say something BAD)...

'Bombay Dreams' heads to big screen
Webber musical features music by 'Slumdog's' A.R. Rahman

By Gregg Kilday

May 14, 2010, 12:02 PM ET
CANNES -- "Bombay Dreams," the stage musical produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber
with music from Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman, is getting the big-screen
treatment via Beverly Hills-based production company Marquee Pictures.

Deepa Mehta will direct the film, Marquee's first theatrical release, from a
screenplay by "Monson Wedding" writer Sabrina Dhawan.

The musical hit the London stage in 2002 and ran for two years. In 2004, it
was produced on Broadway, where it picked up three Tonys.

Marquee, established with an eye toward transferring stage musicals to film,
is headed by former Universal executive Jeff Segal, former ICM agent and
producer Steve Waterman, Arclight Films president Gary Hamilton and Azure
Media Group chairman Steve Wilkinson. Jack Crosby, former chairman of the
Sundance Film Institute, serves as Marquee chairman.

The "Bombay" film adaptation will be produced in association with Webber's
Really Useful Group and also is expected to take on an Indian production
partner.

Principal photography of the Bombay-set romantic tale is set for 2011 in
Mumbai.

Arclight is repping sales of the film outside the U.S.

Floodgates finally open for Kapur's 'Water' Oscar-winning director secures
$30 mil for pet project

By Stuart Kemp

May 14, 2010, 12:51 PM ET
RelatedShekhar Kapur plays Russian Roulette with
'Water'
CANNES -- Oscar winner Shekhar Kapur will direct "Paani" (Water) from a
script by David Farr, having secured the $30 million budget from Swarovski
Entertainment and Adlabs founder-turned-producer Manmohan Shetty.

The project idea has occupied Kapur's mind for 10 years and, after pressure
from fellow filmmaker Danny Boyle and Shetty's insistance that "he gets on
and makes it before it's too late," Kapur plans to shoot in November with
additional backing from Walk Water in Singapore, Dubai and on large
purpose-built sets being designed by John Myrhe.

Boyle will get a producer credit of some kind for his efforts, Kapur said
and the project also marks the first full-length feature backed by
Swarovski's start-up entertainment arm.

A. R. Rahman has written two original songs for the project, Kapur said.

The project is a love story set in a mega city in a future where precious
H20 has all but run out and corporations go to war over its control. The
city is divided into two conflicting halves, in which the upper city hoards
all the water and drip feeds the slums of the lower city. A girl from the
upper tier meets a water rat boy and falls in love against this backdrop.

Swarovski backed the project after Kapur wrote and directed short film
"Passage" in Buenos Aires last year as its first project. Kapur said he
plans to make the $30 million budget look like $150 million and will aim to
seal a negative pickup studio deal with the aim of ensuring the finished
film is seen by as many people as possible.

[image: More Cannes
coverage]
"We want and have to get this story out there as widely as we can," Kapur
said. "Luckily, with the partners we have now, we can go and make it without
needing to go to the studios to get money, but will want it on lots of
screens. Water conservation is an important issue for me so this is a film
very close to my heart."

One of the key drivers behind the project is an aim to bring the growing
global issue of a world without clean, drinking water and the threat to
humanity it reps to the top of the global political agenda. "Blue Covenant"
author Maude Barlowe is aboard and hopes Kapur's film will play a part in
taking awareness to a whole new level.

That song was panned from the very beginning, although many liked it. For me,
it has its moments, but definitely one of the weaker songs from ARR in recent
times.

2010-05-14 Thread AJ
So, there you go...those who are complaining of Raavan's music, keep these
2 things in mind from this ARR interview:

1) "Mani is the boss"
2) "It's not about having done a great song or having worked hard on the music.
It's always about what's good for the movie."

Period.

2010-05-14 Thread Arijit Debnath
Hello Taimur :)

1st of all you're excusing all Rahmaniacs for "your" criticism on Raavan
music again you're asking apology to those Rahmaniacs who felt bad about
"your" frequent down ratings of Raavan.

I can really understand your conditions here and got traumatized looking at
your sense and sensibilities... I think ironically you have a dual state of
mind based on which you listen to music and compose emails... and others got
confused...

Pls excuse me or I ask you apology if you feel bad (however I'll not dare to
excuse you if I say something BAD)...

[arr] Singers in Jai Ho concerts( London O2)

2010-05-14 Thread Indmov Buff
Does anyone here know who will be accompanying AR at the Jai Ho concerts in
terms of singers? Especially in London. Would be grateful for any info on this.
Trying to sell the event to non-ar fans so would be useful to be able to name
a few singers to entice them in ;) and then when they come they'll know what
AR's music can do to you.

Thanks

song, supposedly an unreleased song from Raavan, is authentic or not? I haven't

[arr] Mannipaaya - Have to read this [1 Attachment]

2010-05-14 Thread pratap
Please download the attachment:) Listen carefully to how AR sings this part. It
is the last line he sings in the song. When he sings "yenna seiven", you can
hear a mild chuckle (in a sad way). It's like he is really complaining/asking.
What I am trying to say is, the way he sings this particular part really brings
out the emotion the lyrics is trying to trigger in the listeners.
Unfortunately, in the audio, the music is a little too loud for this to be
noticed... I really hope you guys get what I was trying to say. :)

 YUVAN IN RAHMAN’S MUSIC

May 14, 2010 Home > More
news The
theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held in Coimbatore
in June 2010 will be composed by A R Rahman. The composing work is underway
and Rahman, true to his style, is creating a symphony of sorts for the theme
song. The list of singers who would render voice for the song gets longer
every single day.

Latest heard, singers who will be part of the song include Hariharan,
Nityasree, Chinmayi, G V Prakash and Rehana. Besides, it’s also learnt that
Yuvan Shankar Raja is also singing for the theme song, which also brings the
legendary TMS in front of the mike after decades. MP Kanimozhi is also
involved in discussions with Rahman regarding the composition, we hear

[arr] Rahman: Honour from home

Rahman: Honour from home

Tomorrow’s function to launch the theme song for the
World Classical Tamil Conference has got a new highlight now. For the
State government has decided to honour A R Rahman, who has composed
music for the song, for bringing home the Oscars and the Grammy.
An official communication said Chief Minister M
Karunanidhi, who has penned lyrics for the theme song ‘Pirapokkum Ella
Uyirkkum….’ will felicitate Rahman at the function to be held at the
Centenary Auditorum of the Madras University.
Besides, there will be a concert by Drummer Sivamani
at the event to be attended by music legend L Subramaniam, filmmaker
Gautham Vasudev Menon (director for the song’s visual version), Central
and State Ministers, top officials and Tamil scholars.
The song is said to be quite an audio-visual treat,
besides being a fine tribute to the classical language. Over 50
top-notch artists from different genres, including playback music,
Carnatic, folk and Sufi have participated in this rare, special
confluence.
The song would be played at theatres, on television
channels and other forums in the run-up to the conference to be held in
June, in Coimbatore. According to Rahman, he only saw this opportunity
as a boon to pay a tribute to Tamil through the anthem.

finale and jaye na joru bin (male chorus) , joru abhi kamsin(female chorus) ,
kanya ko bulao (wierd male chorus) just loved this part its the best.
