4. K J Yesudas had sung for all the songs in Yodha, so its difficult to say

Re: [arr] ARR sings the first line of oh yaaro, yeh india bula raha hai

2010-08-18 Thread Ram Motipally
Ramesh, in the past I have admired your views and sense of humor, but in this
case I will disagree. And my point is much larger than just this interview, I
chime with what AR said. It is a given that the organizing committee has messed
up, we all know it, and much thanks to the media to have focussed on it. But,
the media also has a selfish interest in this. They want to sensationalize it
and milk every drop of advantage out of this. Given that the games are still 45
days away, and the games have not been cancelled in India, there is still hope.
Any country which hosts this games is proud of what they can do and we too
should be proud. Infact our media also is a part of our country and they should
at some point stop the negativity about the org committee messing up and play a
constructive role in the games being successfull eventually. That is not
happening and this lady reporter is also in the same mould. She still wants to
milk and overzealously report the negativity, when the need of the hour was
some
positive reinforcement that we can still do it !

AR pointed exactly this out when he said he was in London and felt the media
reporting to be just conveying a negative tone whereas he himself has seen a
lot
of positives in what is happening. This is my larger point.

For what it's worth, I think she asked valid questions. Perhaps her tone could
have been more respectful. The preparations for CWG have been in shambles.
Here's an article that sums it up. And if the media was informed that the song
would be presented, then they have every reason to be disappointed and
uncharitable in their reporting if the song was not ready.

It's not honest reporting to paint a rosy picture when the ground realities are
something else.

she was just wailing like a baby I think she took offense to what AR said
that there is a lot of negativity from the media and he humbly requested the
media to be a part of the games and project a positive image globally. She
started off by saying that the games preparations were in shambles only 45 days
away and now even the song is not being released...blah blah...later she says
the invite to the press said that the song will be unveiled and that is not the
case and why are they just saying the media should be positive when they are
not
doing anything on time.

[arr] [Semi-ARR] 127 Hours

2010-08-18 Thread $ Pavan Kumar $
Fox has announced that Danny Boyle's next movie 127 hours is all set to release
on Nov 5.

I was wondering if any news is out on who is the composer?

The sites below mention Rahman as the composer :

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/07/30/fox-searchlight-sets-november-5-release-date-for-danny-boyles-127-hours/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/127_Hours

Also, I found this movie review in IMDB..by someone who had watched the early
test screening of the movie :

http://www.imdb.com/news/ni3289229/

[Early Test Screening Reviews] Danny Boyle’s ’127 Hours’
13 July 2010 10:47 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »
One of our readers was lucky enough to attend the very first test screening
for Danny Boyle‘sSlumdog Millionaire follow-up, 127 Hours. The film tells the
story of Aron Ralston (James Franco), the mountain climber who had to amputate
his own arm with a dull knife after a 2003 hiking accident. Check out their
reaction below.
Todd McCarthy wrote of the Coen brothers A Serious Man, “This is the kind of
movie you get to make after you’ve won an Oscar.” The same can be said of Danny
Boyle’s latest, 127 Hours. In telling the true story of a climber who is forced
to amputate his arm after being trapped for five days, Boyle and James
Franco certainly do a lot with a little. The cinematography by Boyle
regular Anthony Dod Mantle and Enrique Chediak is beautiful and inventive. The
score bySlumdog Millionaire composer A.R Rahman is strong »

Hi Gopal and the rest,

I have read many e-mails containing useful data in this group before. Just
like
Arvind's unique list of intro songs for singers there have been other lists
such
as Mother songs, child singers lists, raaga based lists and several other
extremely interesting lists. I strongly feel that we should have all of this
documented as part of the group? Any suggestions on how this can be done?
Database? I am happy to put in time to dig out useful data from old e-mails.

Those guys having an site themselves for ARR can create a database like
that of cricinfo.com ...all the records in all possible angle should be kept in
that database ... !! that would be an awesome thing to do !! will take a hell
lot of time at first but when done it wont take much time to update it with
latest album releases !

[arr] Revisited Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

2010-08-18 Thread AJ
As Abbas T's next Jhoota He Sahi approaches with music by ARR, the same team
that worked on Jaane Tu, I revisited Jaane Tu and found the musical experience
to be just as refreshing and bright as when I first heard the album. I still
love that album for many reasons.

I feel that Jaane Tu was a necessary album in ARR's career to showcase how he
can score music for a relatively light, mainstream, romcom film without
compromising on class. Yes, the music is lighter and more poppish than what
we're used to hearing from ARR, and for some people, it was a turn off. But,
to me, it showcased, once again, ARR's incredible versatility as a musician to
know when to put the brakes on..light treatment to musical arrangements,
reduced instrumental density, more breathing room to the songs, more
conventionally structured songs with hummable melodies. And yet, the music to
me had that unmistakable ARR stamp without musical acrobatics.and to
methat is the genius of ARRhis signature can be felt in more
subtle, lighter forms without the need for high octane musical adventurism.
For me, knowing when to put the musical brakes on is a hallmark of a true
genius artist, as ARR has shown before too through minimalism. But, this was
minimalism in a more poppish and less spiritual form and to me, it hit the
bullseye within that genre. And boy did the music take off with the youth!!!
CDs sold like hotcakes and the music went on to win awards. Other MDs too
raved about the soundtrack.

The production and sound value of Jaane Tu was brilliant to me too. The
arrangements were crisp and bright.

My favorites on that album are Kabhi Aditi, Jaane Tu (Both male and female),
Kahin To, and Tu Bole. Tu Bole had the most amazing trumpet improv jazz that
totally blew me away when I first heard it. That song is one of my
favorites!!!

I will also need some input in choosing the domain

I thought of some

ARDB.in

arrinfo.org

i tried some domains that has ar rahman in the name, but they all seem to
have been taken.

As for hosting and domain, I don't mind paying for it. I have a dedicated
server where I host my clients.

so, to sum it up

1. website as a database of information on ar rahman and his music.

2. categorized, search-able contents like Reviews, Information, Singers,
Instrumentalists, Instruments Used, Places performed, Debuts, quotes,
interviews etc.

3. Quality contents from the group. like awesome reviews of AJ and Gayathri
and the rest of those people who write good contents. of course, with
credits and links to their blogs / websites etc, if they have any.

please contribute your suggestions.

well said aj. i find jtyjn a masterpiece. sadly it wasnt well used or
atleast not used properly. the songs needed a college story and not a post
college story.

As Abbas T's next Jhoota He Sahi approaches with music by ARR, the same
team that worked on Jaane Tu, I revisited Jaane Tu and found the musical
experience to be just as refreshing and bright as when I first heard the
album. I still love that album for many reasons.

I feel that Jaane Tu was a necessary album in ARR's career to showcase how
he can score music for a relatively light, mainstream, romcom film without
compromising on class. Yes, the music is lighter and more poppish than what
we're used to hearing from ARR, and for some people, it was a turn off. But,
to me, it showcased, once again, ARR's incredible versatility as a musician
to know when to put the brakes on..light treatment to musical
arrangements, reduced instrumental density, more breathing room to the
songs, more conventionally structured songs with hummable melodies. And yet,
the music to me had that unmistakable ARR stamp without musical
acrobatics.and to methat is the genius of ARRhis
signature can be felt in more subtle, lighter forms without the need for
high octane musical adventurism. For me, knowing when to put the musical
brakes on is a hallmark of a true genius artist, as ARR has shown before
too through minimalism. But, this was minimalism in a more poppish and less
spiritual form and to me, it hit the bullseye within that genre. And boy did
the music take off with the youth!!! CDs sold like hotcakes and the music
went on to win awards. Other MDs too raved about the soundtrack.

The production and sound value of Jaane Tu was brilliant to me too. The
 arrangements were crisp and bright.

My favorites on that album are Kabhi Aditi, Jaane Tu (Both male and
female), Kahin To, and Tu Bole. Tu Bole had the most amazing trumpet improv
jazz that totally blew me away when I first heard it. That song is one of my
 favorites!!!

The Common Wealth Games’ theme song, which
was set to tune by Oscar winner A R

has been titled Swagatham. Speaking at
the
press conference about this song, the
Mozart
of Madras said, “When you hear the song
you feel like India is calling you. I
want
the crowd to sing along. We have put in
a lot of hard work and we are all very
excited
to turn it into a memorable experience.
I am still working on it and am curious
to know how older, intelligent people,
who
have years of wisdom, will react to it.”

The song is sung by AR Rahman along with
other singers. It is predominantly in
Hindi
with some words in English. The musician
said that the song has been approved by
the group of ministers. He added that
Swagatham

Glad to see this outpouring of enthusiasm. Hopefully, it will sustain. I,
among others, have tried various forms of this previously that did not
culminate in anything (beyond my discography, which too hasn't been updated
in a year) as time turned out to be a major constraint. Some of the modes we
have considered includes static web lists, wikis and databases. In my
opinion, a database at the backend is probably the best with front end forms
for querying. Depending on how simple or complex it turns out, something
like Zoho Creator might work too. What's needed is the involvement of people
who are well versed with database design AND those that can source
information. If we can do a good enough job of this there is potential to
make it official. Next steps perhaps include forming a core team,
identifying the types of information we want stored, design the schema and
then create and populate.

I said it earlier as well. Its better we have it one single website.
Already we have arrahman.com . Another good site rahmanism.com run by a
rahamanic. If we can just get the song and singer details as a CSV/excel, we
can port it to any website easily.
First step should be to get a excel with detail about each song.
Details like songname, album name, director name, genre, ragaa, singer(s) etc shd be
included. From there developing a webpage and then pushing it into any of the
two sites shouldnt be difficult.

Gops, thanks for your reply.

Sustaining this enthusiasm is certainly what is more important.

But, I have been plannings something like that for a while. I didn't want to
do it on my own as it will end up nowhere. I am bad in maintaining web
sites. In addition, i think a website like this should belong to this group.

Database is definitely the way to do it. static websites will be nearly
impossible to edit and update.

like you said, the main thing is not just the technical side of the project.
we will need people to collect these information, segregate and sort it in
what ever order that is necessary for each type of data that we are going to
save.

When I first posted about it, I was thinking of using WordPress as a back
end. It is a blogging platform. but it can be modded and made to work like
what we have in mind. in addition, it will also help in posting reviews and
articles whenever necessary.

Like I said, those are technical side of it and they are not what is the
most important part. it's the willingness of people and how long it will
last.

While artists work on multiple terrabytes of commercial loops

Coming to the Iruvar intro part, yes, they both are similar, but

I think what I was after initially was a database that belonged to the group
instead of an individual member but for this we need Gopal's approval and of
course everyone else's time and efforts. I think there are enough and more fan
sites for AR out there but I think it would give credibility if it were part of
this group which for me was the first meeting point in history for all AR fans.
More like a collection of informative e-mails that has come through into this
group over the years but sorted out accordingly for research purposes.

similarity or a co-incidence.
The SAME musical piece of MEMPHIS STOMP is played in the prelude of Hello
Mr. Ethirkatchi. Exactly the same piece of notes for atleast the first 20
seconds. 100% same!
Maybe, it was a result of jamming with the keyboard player..and maybe ARR
liked this piece played by the player. (ARR might not have known that it is
an existing piece).

But the rest of the song is ARR's own GEM!! Always remember, in ARR songs
such inspirations are very very rare. If u take his predecessors, they have
lifted complete songs. ARR never has one such song in his 18 year
old career!
ARR is legendary.

Coming to the Iruvar intro part, yes, they both are similar, but
 certainly not Memphis Stomp.

Re: [arr] Database for group of contents from useful e-mails

2010-08-18 Thread Farzad Khaleel
I would prefer Joomla @ backend, if you are going for it, because it is one
of the finest opensource Content Management System. Wordpress could only
give you a blogging platform, and I think the feature are much limited in
it.

Adding approved authors/publishers in Joomla, can help in building up a good
database. But the main hindrance, is the time factor as we couldnt spent
much time behind it.

Also, when it comes to ARR, it must be perfect and a uniformity in design
and credicility of data is most important of it.

I could also give in a help, regarding the technical side of it. And yeah,
Amith Chandran is the man. This is one of his dream project, I guess.

 Gops, thanks for your reply.

Sustaining this enthusiasm is certainly what is more important.

But, I have been plannings something like that for a while. I didn't want
to do it on my own as it will end up nowhere. I am bad in maintaining web
sites. In addition, i think a website like this should belong to this group.

Database is definitely the way to do it. static websites will be nearly
 impossible to edit and update.

like you said, the main thing is not just the technical side of the
project. we will need people to collect these information, segregate and
sort it in what ever order that is necessary for each type of data that we
 are going to save.

When I first posted about it, I was thinking of using WordPress as a back
end. It is a blogging platform. but it can be modded and made to work like
what we have in mind. in addition, it will also help in posting reviews and
 articles whenever necessary.

Like I said, those are technical side of it and they are not what is the
most important part. it's the willingness of people and how long it will
 last.

[arr] [Semi ARR] Rockstar, yes, but dancing, no

2010-08-18 Thread satish_srini

Posted On Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 02:03:14 AM

One will see Ranbir Kapoor doing the head bangs and playing the guitar but
don't expect the Kapoor boy dancing in Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar. The director
strictly feels that Ranbir shouldn't be dancing in the film as it is contrary
to the image of a rockstar.

In the film Ranbir plays a huge Jim Morrison fan. While songs in the film will
evoke the vibe of the swinging rock genre, Ranbir will not be doing any
Bollywood jhatkas, the staple of choreography in tinsel town.

A source reveals, Director Imtiaz feels that no rockstar has ever danced and
it will look very weird and not in character. He has strictly said no to dance
moves.

Imtiaz wants Ranbir to get under the skin of the character and not merely
behave like one by only playing the guitar.

The source continues, There is a song with his co-star Nargis Fakhri, but
whether he will dance remains a mystery. Imtiaz is yet to figure out the
`dancing' aspect of his film. At the moment they have shot for a gypsy song
with montages of Ranbir coming in.

Imtiaz had given Ranbir a few videos of rockstars from the past, so that Ranbir
could cultivate their style and habits. Ranbir had been learning guitar to play
the part of a crooner.

Both Ranbir and Imtiaz remained unavailable for comment.

[arr] ARR at number 25 among 50 most creative Indians

2010-08-18 Thread AJ
http://www.naachgaana.com/2010/08/16/50-most-creative-indians/#more-50693

Frankly, ARR should be in the top ten. His creative powers remain
underestimated. Vishal B was ranked higher than ARR for his films mostly.

Hey! Vijay Iyer came in at number 16...higher than ARR! How about that!

50 Most Creative Indians
Some are famous, some are not. You may agree with the list, you may not. But
these are in our view the most imaginative men and women in the country. In no
particular order.

1. ARUNDHATI ROY
Voted third on Forbes' list of `30 Utterly Inspiring Role Models', the author
of God of Small Things is a voice you ignore at your own risk, one as audacious
as it's eloquent in raising questions.

2. VISHY ANAND
The first Indian world chess champion, formidably fast on the board, inventive
with tactics and strategy. He has grown better with age, and there remains no
perceptible weakness in his game. A master of player psychology, in the past
two world championship matches held recently, he spontaneously adapted his game
to the man across the board.

3. AMIT HERI
Audiences at the Berlin, Montreux, London and Paris jazz festivals have been
bowled over by this guitarist-composer. He's jammed with Angelique Kidjo,
Robert Miles and Zakir Hussain, but oddly enough this Bangalore artiste's jazzy
riffs remain alien to most Indian ears. For a desi listen, try Jhoola, his
album voiced by Kota, Mizo and Uttarakhandi chanters.

4. JITEN THUKRAL AND SUMIR TAGRA
Pop went the easel, video and installations in the hands of this Punjabi duo,
affectionately dubbed TT. Ever since the 2005 debut of these communication
designers, they've artfully trotted out enough material to turn even Elton John
into a TT collector. The duo, who've shown at London, Berlin, Sydney and
Shanghai, explore HIV and consumerism with safe-sex chaddis and dinosaurs
designed from strawberry-syrup bottles.

5. SACHIN TENDULKAR
Sachin was the cherub of the team when Kapil Dev took up a bet with him: You
must play ten years for India. He played 20. He is still playing. Earlier,
bold strokes were Tendulkar's unique selling proposition (USP). Now, it is the
way he rations his experience, body and skill to climb peaks only he can.

6. SABYASACHI MUKHERJEE
When he graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology in 1999, he
was heralded as the future of Indian design. In subsequent years, he has lived
up to expectations by crafting a series of stunning collections. By using
indigenous techniques like bandhani, gota work, block printing and hand dyeing,
Sabyasachi creates modern silhouettes that carry a rich aroma of India in them.
His kalidaar kurtas, lehengas and saris are in heavy demand across the world,
and his label thrives in countries like the US, UK, UAE, Greece, Germany and
Singapore.

7. SIDDHARTH BASU
The original quizmaster of India, he made general knowledge fashionable among
youngsters. Starting off with Quiz Time on Doordarshan, he went on to host and
produce programmes like Master Mind India and India Child Genius. Basu's
biggest success came in the form of Kaun Banega Crorepati , a show that not
just marked Amitabh Bachchan's debut on the small screen, but also redefined TV
viewing in India. Through his company, Synergy Communications, Basu is now
working on various reality TV formats like Dus Ka Dum¸, India's Got Talent and
Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

8. PRASOON JOSHI
As a poet, lyricist, award winning adman and Aamir Khan's chief creative
officer, Joshi wears many caps. His `Thanda matlab Coca-Cola' campaign, which
won a Golden Lion at Cannes, was fizzy enough to guarantee his role as his
advertising mentor Piyush Pandey's spiritual successor.

9. JAGGI VASUDEV
Some say he's the coolest spiritual guru since Osho. `Sadhguru', who often
swaps his trademark beige robes and turban for denims and Orkleys, and enjoys
the occasional volleyball game, dubs his brand of spirituality `inner
engineering' and `software for the soul', making him the go-to saviour of
sanity for millions of stressed out infotech professionals in South India. Now,
his Isha Foundation is taking the franchise route to reach a suburb near you.

10. DAKSHA SHETH
Over the last 45 years, Daksha Sheth has created an entirely new dance
vocabulary by blending Mayurbhanj Chhau, Kalaripayattu, Kathak and the
spectacular aerial techniques of Mallakhamb. Not one to shy away from the
unknown, Daksha enjoys moving into fresh territory. Some of her famous works
include Search for My Tongue, Mahisasur Mardini, Kalia Daman and Sarpagati.

11. SUBODH GUPTA
Bihar once had Nalanda. Bihar also housed this artist from Khagaul until he
stormed the art world with his cowdung installations, steel katoris (bowls) and
kattas (country revolvers). With a sensibility shaped by his home state,
Gupta's hands have converted clanging cooking vessels into gargantuan God-faced
installations which have hung over Venice. When he exhibited gigantic

Hi Gopal,
I think the best way to target is to have it officially hosted on arrahman.com,
with full blown filter criterias. If hosted on arrahman.com, the information
posted would obviously sound very authentic. Infact, in all the recent albums,
I do see a lot of credits posted and that probably could also be the sourcing
fileds with more additions like Genre, Raagas etc., Infact, if there could also
be a column with sales information(updated periodically from sources), it would
also help understand the humongous success of an album.

According to me, anything that AR does has to be ON TOP OF THE WORLD. With that
said, if these kind of valuable information gets hosted on arrahman.com, I'm
sure the whole world would be on it finding information, day in day out, which
would also make arrahman.com the most trafficked website, adding another
feather to our BOSS'es success.

Plus, I would also love to see this application to find its place in apple
store, so it would be one of the most downloaded app in iTunes.

Also, it has been my long standing wish. I would love to see HD videos of AR
working during some of his compositions in his studios, his memorable
experiences while working on some of the songs, movies, his achievement along
the way, his childhood life etc., If these get put together in a DVD or Blu-Ray
for the public to buy, I'm sure it will sell like HOT CAKES. All the collection
could be attributed to AR.Foundation. I always think it would be much more of a
value to both the fan base and the foundation. Again, the video could also be
sold on iTunes and the reach would be purely global. I'm sure that every fan of
AR(which is in billions) would love to see the videos of AR and the magic he
creates from all the studios he works around the GLOBE. I think such a
documented video of AR has never been out and I think its time to have one to
be professionally crafted and distributed.

JMHO.

Jai Ho !!!

try Jhoola, his album voiced by Kota, Mizo and Uttarakhandi chanters.

Pop went the easel, video and installations in the hands of this Punjabi
duo, affectionately dubbed TT. Ever since the 2005 debut of these
communication designers, they've artfully trotted out enough material to

Berlin, Sydney and Shanghai, explore HIV and consumerism with safe-sex
chaddis and dinosaurs designed from strawberry-syrup bottles.

  5. SACHIN TENDULKAR
Sachin was the cherub of the team when Kapil Dev took up a bet with him:

  only he can.

  9. JAGGI VASUDEV
Some say he's the coolest spiritual guru since Osho. `Sadhguru', who often
