Re: [arr] ARR Database Interface Design

2010-08-27 Thread Aravind AM
Hi Rakesh,

The design looks neat!! Good job, dude! :)

The database project is really taking off now, and I'm excited! :)
With a DBA  (Roshan) at the helm, I think the search capabilites are gonna be
really good! :)

I think I can drop my ARR database project now...  No point in duplicating the
work!!

Roshan, I'll send u the files that I've been working on... may not be exactly
in the same format...  I have the data already normalised, with separate tables
for songs, singers, directors etc... Will send you the excel file shortly
dont know how useful it will be, though...

  Dear All,

I am keeping track of the ingoing discussion and work done by members about a
full ARR movie and dongs database, in that regard, i have designed the front
design of a movie details. Please note that some details given a not correct,
as i am not very aware of the ragas, but can have an idea about how it looks.

Since its sole purpose is about ARR Movies, I have made a bigger search bar
where anything can be searched, with some category thrown in ..

My plan is to design the following pages

1. Main Movie page - shows detail about a particular movie ( as attached)
2. Year page
3. Singer
4. Language - year wise listing of movie
5. Director
5 - Actor / Actress ( Since the db is about ARR, i think details about the
actor/actresses is sufficient)

Any other you guys can
 suggest.

Suggestions are welcome

Re: [arr] [Endiran dissapointed thread] All post here

2010-08-27 Thread kishore parayath
Gomzy..
THe elements seen in Hollywood scores were matched by ARR through his
songs. Eg: Veerapandi Kottaiyile BGMs. So there is nothing wrong in relating
scores to songs. Secondly; the film is hyped to be a sci-fi thriller.. NOt a
regular 'Rajinikanth movie' as u said. Normally, in Rajinikanth films, the
story is made for Rajini. But in Endhiran, Rajini portrays the protagonist
of a pre-written story.
My comparison is right in every sense here. I dont think more justifications
are required.

I dont know whether i am the only one to think this way but i find all the
songs from endhiran exciting and so unique. I am pretty sure once the movie is
released every one will realise that endhiran is as good as "indian" .

[arr] ARR Database Interface Design [1 Attachment]

2010-08-27 Thread rakesh kumar

Any other you guys can suggest.

Suggestions are welcome

Hi Fameeb,

well "one mans meat another mans poison" i love the songs and i cant stop
hearing them.

i think this is Rahmans greatest  effort in recent times and boy you should
listen in a system that can produce the scale and the emotion. if you listen in
your car or a mini combo  then i am sorry to say you dont know what you are
missing friend.

i luv them all. there are time l liked some of Rahman's work but the recording
is crap and thus the effort is wasted but Robot is pure magic whether you take
performance or recording!

BTW , VTV is a classic and Puli was good ( so truely commercial )

Endhiran is constantly getting played in order to like it. But somehow,
still am
not liking it that much .

It may be because of personal taste. Waiting to see the movie , may be I will
like it.

Thanx for your comment.

2010-08-27 Thread Gayathri Chandrakasan
Look on the bright side, probably by having a specific thread such as this will
prevent members from throwing words at one another.

Members who are disgruntled about the album will have room to voice out their
opinions without being "bashed", while members who love Enthiran, will now have
the option of not reading the mails associated with such a title (thereby
keeping their blood pressure in control!).

While I accept the fact that some people may have disliked Endhiran,
majority thought it was a great album on the wholestarting a complete
thread to prove the disappointment about Endhiran is like inviting people to
share and spread negativity purposefully...There is no such need...if people
don't like it, they can always send in the review on what went wrong
musically...without any gross statement directed against ARR

I may be wrong but this is just my humble opinion...

[arr] Ek Lo Ek Muft - The Fusion Rock version

2010-08-27 Thread wiredbeats
Hey all,

Just few days ago someone from this gang posted in facebook a rock version of
Urvasi Urvasi played by a Kolkatha band. Parts of it were super.

Then i remembered i once did a version mix of Ek Lo Ek Muft which i left half
cooked for 6 months..

Actually,Sometime ago, there was a track of Rod Stewart playing on the radio
when i accidently played Rahman’s song Ek Lo Ek Muft from Guru. They both
sounded great together, as in the groove of the song changed but the feel was
very interesting.I felt a rock mix of that kind would be great, so decided to
give it a shot. Heres how i think a Rock fusion mix of that super original
track
from Guru sounds like.

I hope you like it guys. Its just for fun...with respect

Don't worry about it, Fameeb. Enthiran is something which can be regarded as
avant-garde- it may not be everyone's choice of music but it's definitely very
experimental and unconventional. There's no need to feel sad or hurt for not
liking it. Who knows, maybe you'll enjoy the songs once you watch it on screen.
And even if that doesn't work, just wait for ARR's next albums. I'm sure you'll
find what you're looking for in them. Take care :))

Hey AJ,

Shall I ask you to stop accusing people and to work on the content instead?.
I don't think that there are only 10 members in this group.

I agree that there are only 10-20 guys (including you) actively sending
emails and that there are a few members who wrote in different names &
switched to a new identity in the past (who knows how many ids they changed,
even many were referring to someone called Ajit) but don't assume that
everyone would do that even just to express his disappointment.

So, my advice to you would be to respond to the content and not to waste
your time on deciphering the source which is not worth (in this medium)

Thanks.

[arr] Raavanan : Usure Pohuthey

2010-08-27 Thread Indmov Buff
Listening to Usure for the 'n'th time now and those butterflies are still
fluttering in my stomach! Wow WOw Wow! Raw, eccentric and passionate.
Vairamuthu hasn't been better than this in recent times!

"En kattaiyum oru naal saayalam
En kannula un mugam pohuma ", he makes Veera ask.

And that's exactly how the movie ends!

This song is like an amazing rollercoaster ride for me: the way it builds up
gradually in tempo from "theku marak kaadu" to "usure pohuthey" and then back
again to the "indha olahathil". Then the jamming that goes on during the
"pambha
viludha" lines. Haunting stuff.

This song is my definition of a perfect song: soul stirring music by AR,
complemented beautifully by Vairamuthu's lyrics and Karthik's vocals. A Perfect
package.

Gomzy, seems we disagree again on this also.

I think after 18 years of association of a fan with ARR, it becomes
imperative on the fan to introspect what is in this song/ album that
he is not liking, when he has liked some 100 albums and 1000 songs of
the man.

Whoever does that introspection with feel relieved himself, on finding
the specific point about the song/ album that are not to his own
liking. This way, he retains confidence that it is the genre that he
is not liking, and he still likes ARR phenomenon and he will like
ARR's next album whenever ARR gives songs in the genre that the fan likes.

ARR has given us unbounded divine pleasure 100 times with his albums.

What we have given him back?

What can we give him back?

I think we can give him back an honest feedback of our views and
feeling on his albums instead of an unbalanced hype or endless criticism.

Gayathri, exactly how I feel about Raavanan, Mani, VTV and Goutham! Well said !

I share the same feelings too. Not only the soundtracks and bgms, but even as
the respective films are concerned, I would pick Raavanan (haven't watched
Raavan yet) rather than VTV. There was something eccentric, mystifying yet
enriching in the film. ...not sure why it didn't fare too well at the
box-office. Then again, I also loved Dilse and it bombed at the box-office
too.Probably not everyone's choice of films, I gather.

VTV didn't hold the same sort of excitement for me (well, maybe I'm a weird
person, thus I tend to have weird tastes in films) like Raavanan did. The songs
are nice and I loved them at the time it was released. But after watching them
on the screen, only Manipaya (weird placing in the film-my humble opinion) and
Aaromale stayed close to my heart. Can't say much about the bgm though. I've
only watched the film once and not surprisingly, I can't remember any of them
now.

Ok, this maybe a dumb question, but isn't it kinda weird to compare Maniratnam
with Gautham Menon? And what's the meaning of "his kind of music"? I. for one
thought that being diverse and unpredictable is what makes ARR, ARR?

Re: [arr] [Endiran dissapointed thread] All post here

2010-08-27 Thread Indmov Buff

I don't think anyone should be forced to write about why they didn't like the
album. Or even forced to. Perhaps the titles should not include "all post here"
But if someone feels like sharing why they didn't like the album in a sensible
manner, then I guess a thread like this is useful without having to resort to a
new mail everyday saying "sad about endhiran", "disappointed with endhiran" etc
which really brings a lot of negativity into the group. People who have
constructive criticism should be encouraged to share their thoughts on a thread
like this for any album. I hope it is not misused. As for your comment about
"not touching you", I agree. Sometimes that's the only reason and that was the
case with this album for me. Not my cup of tea.
