[arr] Re: songs database

2010-08-24 Thread Subramanian
Hey Roshan,

I tried to enter a song into the Songs database but I got an error message.

"The following errors occured while processing your form input.
You did not enter one or more of the required fields. Please go back and try
again."

I did enter every single required field. Why am I getting this error?

Also I can't see what others have entered. I would like to check before I enter
a song to see if it has already been entered.

[arr] Re: Ponnar Shankar

2010-08-09 Thread Subramanian
Yup its a film written by Tamilnadu CM M.Karunanidhi and directed by
Prashanth's ('Jeans' 'Thiruda Thiruda' fame)father Thyagarajan starring
Prashanth and Sneha. Its supposedly a Period epic war film. Really sounds
exciting since it will be Rahman's first period film after Jodhaa Akbar. But
its gonna take at least one more year for the film and its music to take shape
as Prashanth and his dad are busy making another film. I personally don't think
this Thyagarajan guy is capable of making good films at all and he is probably
gonna make a joke out of this epic war film. Anyway, its gonna take a long
time.

I am really looking forward to NAIR SAN. Any idea about the film, anyone? Its
been in the making for years...Still no news about it...I hope someone knows
something about it.

May be our views on Enthiran differ but I totally agree with you on this. I
disliked 'Maham Maye' initially thinking there is nothing great about the song.
I skipped it after the first minute 3-4 times. Then, I listened to it again
fully and i was blown away by the strings interlude. It was just too grand and
out of the world. And just for that portion, its one of my favourites in Puli
now. I still dislike the Powerstar song though.

[arr] Re: Endhiran for kids only

2010-08-05 Thread Subramanian
Taimur,

what exactly do u mean by immature and outdated? Most of us don't see
immaturity anywhere in the album. Can you please enlighten us?
Most of us can visually feel the situation of all songs and all songs are
already giving us a feel of the movie, which is exactly what the music must do!
You can't have some Balleilakka type intro song here. :|
and what exactly is robotic music, forget 1980s robotic music. Kindly give me a
few examples of 'robotic music'.
I would agree if you did not like Kilimanjaro since its the only misfit in the
album. Every other song, music wise, lyrics wise gives the feel of the movie.
Yet, you like Kilimanjaro the best. Seems like there is a confusion in what you
are looking for.

Kishore,

If you say stuff like "u are totally unable to interpret what we mean" and use
terms like "Innovative Equivalence", it doesn't make us intellectually
inferior to you... nor would we doubt our intellectual capacity and start
disliking the album just because you dont like it . The point is Enthiran is
World class! If you are unable to appreciate it, just accept it, state it if
you want and move on... instead of trying to make us feel like we are a bunch
of dunderheads for liking the album...
God Bless!

[arr] Re: Front Runner for National Awards 2010?

2010-08-03 Thread Subramanian
well, i really don't know what's the criteria for National Award for Best Music
direction. If VTV deserves a national award, then I am sure Delhi-6 deserved it
last year and Rang De Basanti deserved it the year before. There couldn't have
been a better album than Delhi-6 . In fact, I was predicting a national award
for it 100% more so because AR brought home the oscars, so as a token of
appreciation i thought the committee would give the award to him. Sadly, it did
not bag the award. The award went to a more classical music oriented album. If
classical music is what the committee is looking for, then I see no reason why
Minsaara Kanavu bagged the award and Taal failed to bag it.

I beg to differ with your view points on Irumbile Oru Idhayam. Its not a
masterpiece and its not my favourite in the soundtrack, yes but it is
definitely not noisy or weak. In my opinion, its a typical AR techno song like
Yaakai Thiri or Shano Shano and I like the feel of it.
Trust me I hated both Yaakai Thiri and Shano Shano when I first listened to
them. Though Shano Shano just managed to become a song I liked in the album,
Yaakai Thiri became my favourite in Aayitha Ezhuthu. Just listen to Irumbile
Oru Idhayam a few more times. I am sure it'll grow on u.
And looks like AR has created this to satisfy one major portion of the Rajini
fan following- Kids. I am sure kids would get addicted to this song..

2010-06-28 Thread Jagdeesh Subramanian
I haven't checked the other video yet, but an asian a cappella group from
Georgia Tech of which I was a co-founder and performer also did Dil se. Its the
second song in the video. Its our humble attempt at a tribute to ARR's
brilliant composition. Its actually a mix of Chalka (saathiya) and Dil se. The
first song though is a cover of Penn Masala's Aicha.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXc-cg5XtVY

As a matter of fact, this video was shot as an audition to open for Rahman's
Atlanta performance in 2007. The organizers then agreed to show this to him but
then the concert got postponed and the whole attempt fizzled out. The group is
still there, has gone from strength to strength.

Re: [arr] Great NYC concert

2010-06-13 Thread Jagdeesh Subramanian
The songs were very well received atleast in NYC not sure about other venues.
Its only the native indians who have been following his music for eternity
would have been a tad disappointed. But now that I recollect the song list, it
was about 40 songs so there will be several songs that you would not have seen
performed.

I did however hope with Alphonse sir, they would perform Aaromale and one full
song from VTV and Rahman. Vijay Prakash sung Hosana bit in telugu during their
unplugged portion of the concert and the crowd went crazy.

Its tough to appease such a large crowd and thats a problem with any performer
once you have that kind of a song bank.

[arr] Great NYC concert

2010-06-13 Thread Jagdeesh Subramanian
Wow what an experience.

If you are going to the Jai Ho tour with the expectation that it will be the
same as last time you will be in a different treat. The reason being this time
the focus is more on India for western audiences as stated BY Rahman himself.

To begin with no Sivamani, but there was no Rashid Ali or Keith Peters either.
However Naveen Kumar did come to enthrall the audience with his mastery in
flute. But the asian drummer did an awesome job so did the other drummer who
doubled up on the dhol and conga.

Singers, I couldn't recognize everyone, but last time I did meet up with Vijay
Yesudas, Blaaze, A R Raihana and Naresh Iyer. This time also Blaaze was there
but so was Hariharan. 3 more male singers I wasn't so sure about, one sang the
telugu songs, the other was more of a back up vocalist and the 3rd was a
punjabi who did the electric guitar and sang RDB. Among females it was again
Neeti muhan and Shweta pandit and one other female who sang Ek Onkar and
Chaiyya female part very very well.

I felt as if I saw Alphons sir in the midst also during the Khwaja mere khwaja
song backup vocals.

The performances were good and I was ecstatic to see almost all songs being
performed live including instruments and not on tracks.

The video projection of Lataji singing Lukka Chuppi and Rahman sir singing live
was a brilliant idea. In general the dancers, choreography, the slide shows,
sets were a treat. Very different treatment to a full-on energy concert last
time.

Gopal was in ATL last time but not sure if he made it thru this time.

Mani Ratnam had earlier decided to screen his Raavan in the prestigious IIFA
this year. However, with the event being held in Sri Lanka and the issue
snowballing into a controversy, the director has decided against it, we hear.
There is even an official confirmation from Mani’s office that Raavan has
nothing to do with the IIFA. All this, apparently, after the Tamil industry
ignored the invitations from the IIFA.
Earlier, there were plans to picket Mani’s home and office in Chennai, should
the director not change his stance and go ahead with the
screening.http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movie-news-1/apr-10-04/mani-ratnam-raavan-30-04-10.html

I must say I am not impressed with Gulzar saab's lyrics in this song. First 2
couplets (female + male) are not his words; as correctly, it has been credited
to Baba Bulleh Shah.

"Ranjha Ranjha Kardi Ve Main Aape Ranjha Hoyi
Ranjha Ranjha Saddo Ni Mainu Heer Na Aakho Koyi

Ranjha Ranjha Na Kar Heere Jag Badnami Hoye
Patti Patti Jhar Jaave Par Khushboo Chup Na Hoye"

Then the lines that follow -

"Sotey Sotey Bolta Hoon, Kabhi Bolte Bolte Sota Hoon
Kya Jaane Kya Hota Hai, Kabhi Jalti Aag Dadolta Hoon
Ek Baar To Aake Dekhe Woh Bhi"

they dont flow with the compisition at all!! seems like just tucked in there..
rest of the lyrics seem fine though.

There hasnt been any song by Rekha Bhardwaj that I didnt like, and this one
composed by ARR - has to be a special one. So far I have listened to this song
only 3-4 times.. and I am dead sure that I will fall madly in love with this
song in upcoming weeks. Just wanted to write how I felt at the start..

[arr] Now I'm confident about doing more Tamil movies: Aishwarya Rai

2010-04-26 Thread Ganesh Subramanian
By indiaabroad
Monday Apr 26 1:45 PM
Mumbai, April 26 (IANS) Aishwarya Rai started her film career with Mani
Ratnam's Tamil film 'Iruvar' in 1997, but says she feels 'confident' about
doing more Tamil films only now after the multilingual 'Raavan' with the
National Award winning director.
'I understand a bit of Tamil and speak a bit of it. For me, it is very
important that I understand the meaning of my dialogues before I deliver them.
I can't just mug up the dialogues. So for 'Raavan', I made sure I knew what I
was saying and yes, I have improved a lot on the language and I am confident
about doing more Tamil stuff in future,' Aishwarya said.

'After 'Raavan', it was like - 'Come on! Bring on 'Robot' (now 'Endhiran'),'
she told reporters at the music launch of 'Raavan' here Saturday.

'Raavan' is Ratnam's much-awaited project and also stars Abhishek Bachchan,
southern superstar Vikram and Bhojpuri star Ravi Kishan. The movie has been
simultaneously shot in Hindi and Tamil, with a slightly different cast.

Aishwarya plays Ragini, a classical dance teacher. The first look into the
movie shows her dancing gracefully in a song where she has been picturised
getting cosy with Vikram, who plays her husband in the Hindi version of the
film.

One mention of how beautiful the dance moves looked, and Aishwarya said:
'Aww...Thank you so much.'

Talking about her role, she said: 'This was an extremely challenging role for
me. To shoot it in Hindi and Tamil at the same time was quite a task. But the
experience was so wonderful that if Mani sir asks me, I am ready to do it all
over again.'

According to the 36-year-old, her role was a discovery and a mystery.

'Ragini is a strong woman and very relatable to the modern Indian woman. She
speaks her mind. I say discovery because we kept discovering fantastic
locations and got to see so many places. We used to trek every morning to be on
the sets...

'The role remained a mystery because I was playing the leading lady and there I
was with no make-up, no fancy clothes and all drenched in rain with mud all
over. But that's what Mani sir expects from us to keep it all as real as it can
get,' she said.

Aishwarya says they used to give shots with 'snakes a whisper away' and that
they 'must have donated blood to 300 leeches'.

'All in all, it was an incredibly original experience. It was almost like being
on a 'Fear Factor' show,' she added.

The movie, co-produced by Reliance BIG Pictures and Madras Talkies, is expected
to release June 18.

Sony Music grabs Raavanan audio!

By Moviebuzz  | Thursday, 22 April , 2010, 19:35

One of India’s leading music companies Sony Music has grabbed the audio rights
of Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming Raavan’s Tamil version Raavanan and its Telugu
dubbing Villain for a record price.
Sources close to the development said: “The Tamil Raavanan audio launch will
take place a few days after the Hindi Raavan audio which is to be launched on
April 24. It will be a red carpet event as Chennai is the home town of Mani
sir, ARR and Vikram. All of them will take part in the event, details are being
worked out as the launch will happen on or before April 30.”
The music of Raavan is composed by Academy Awards winner AR Rahman. Sony Music
had lost out the Hindi audio of the film to T-Series, so they were determined
to grab the Tamil and Telugu rights of the film. Remember Sony Music has the
best AR Rahman library and is also close to the Oscar winning music director.
Raavanan in Tamil and Telugu has an impressive star cast- Vikram, Aiswarya Rai,
Prithviraj, Priyamani, Prabhu, Karthik and others. Mani Ratnam is the biggest
brand name in south Indian cinema after Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan. The Mani
Ratnam- AR Rahman combo has never failed, and Raavanan is sure to be a
chartbuster.

Continuing its tryst with A R Rahman's titles, music giant T-series has managed
to lap the audio rights of his latest mega project Raavan. The music major has
acquired the audio rights of the Hindi version of the trilingual saga directed
by Mani Ratnam starring power couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai

According to reports, Sony Music was tipped to acquire the music of the film

the label has been the favoured label of the maestro's body of work.

The music of the film will release in April (2010) and the movie will hit

Raavan audio in April!

By galatta
Tuesday Mar 30 4:50 PM It's official! The audio of ace director Mani Ratnam's
much-awaited Tamil-Hindi bilingual Raavan will be launched in April. Sources
say the director has retained the title Raavan for all the versions. There is
no need of any introduction when it come to Mani Ratnam, because his very name
pulls crowds to theatres. Raavan, said to be the modern adaptation of the epic
Ramayana, revolves around Raavana, the ruler of Lanka, who kidnapped Sita. The
story culminates with Sita supporting Raavana instead of Rama, who suspects her
chastity after having spent so much time in Raavana's custody. Vikram plays the
villain. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are the lead pair in Hindi, while
Vikram will play the lead opposite Aishwarya in Tamil. Music is by Oscar winner
A.R. Rahman. The film is expected to grace theatres in June.

completed and will be released in June with Audio release in April.

We saw this movie Last Sunday night 7:30 pm - Naz Theatre (Now -Big Cinemas).

I wasnt too excited about the movie hall or the price of the ticket...not a big
fan of Naz..especially the hall is more like a stock room ...

Hubby & I just gobbled something at the Masala Grill next door and rushed for
the theatre

I was pleasantly surprised about 2 things

1.Hall was totally empty and I hadnt expected that
2.There had been some renovation and the hall no longer looked like a stock
room. I was impressed!

Now...we wait for the movie to begin..both of us, a little nervous. We have
been waiting for this movie for a while...we were fell in love with the album!
The room gets filled, and I move around to get the best seat..for the best view

and...the title rolled ...we were sold!

the concept of rolling names in tamil, and its shadow on water (in english)
brilliant... movie started with bgm of something similar to lathika's theme and
mannipaya..awesome. .(yes, we screamed too..when ARR's name rolled)

after that it moved to aaromale super awesome...!

I read some reviews that only Hosaana was shot well, but I actually like Omana
penne...the song literally makes your pulse go faster towards the end..with
each beat, the lovers seem to get closer...

the chemistry in the scene was palpable...I havent seen a movie (hindi/tamil or
english) in recent past that made me feel this way..it was as if I was living
this love story.

Kannukkul kannai went so well with the emotions of the scene, i understood why
ARR put all the beats (which I initially thought drowned Naresh's voice)..but
the situation demanded it to be so bold and there it wasloved the Cello!

Jessie's Theme - well I read in the forum that it was too loud.. I dont agree
with that...when your heart wants to scream at the foolishness or arrogance
displayed by people you love..i am sure it will be this loud.

Some say...the second half was slower..but I felt that it had the right pace
and momentum...we came out of the hall thinking, is it true that this Story is
based on Gautam's real life story?
I really wanted the story to have a happy ending, so when Trisha turned to
Simbu and explained that why she couldnt talk to him in NY..my heart broke!

Overall...both of us came out of the hall..loving every bit of the movie...I
cant recall a single scene that was out of place or a single bgm piece that was
unwanted or loud.

LOVED IT...and we are waiting for the DVD release!

Good Show by the entire cast and crew of VTV!

Details of Gautham- Ajith film

By Moviebuzz  | Friday, 05 March , 2010, 11:00

It’s confirmed that Gautham Menon and Ajith are coming together in Dhyanidhi
Alagiri’s new untitled film.
Gautham in an interview said: “I have to complete the low budget thriller with
Sameera Reddy and newcomer Veera, which will take a month. Then I will start
work on my film with Ajith towards the end of May”.
Gautham denied his Ajith film has been titled Thuppariyum Anand. Says Gautham:
“Yes I have written a script called Thuppariyum Anand, about a detective in
1920’s Madras and given it to Mr. Kamal Hassan and Mr. Aamir Khan. I’m hoping
that one of them will do the film.”
Added Gautham: “Once and for all I would like to say that the Ajith film is
untitled and it is a mass entertainer. All technicians who worked with me in
VTV will be a part of this new film, while I’m on the lookout for a heroine.”
Meanwhile Ajith has signed up for one season of F2 racing. The star is quoted
saying: “ Since Gautham wanted some more time to complete the story and
scripting, I decided to indulge in my passion, as I want my 50th film to be a
win-win situation for all involved in the film.”

Gobi Kanadasan

VTV - HOPELESSLY ROMANTIC

Home > Visitor Column

By Behindwoods Visitor K.ANANTH

The views expressed in this column are that of the visitor. Behindwoods. com
doesn't hold responsible for its content.

After proving his mettle with some unforgettable cop flicks and psycho
thrillers Gautham Vasudev Menon seemed all set to make you fall in love, with
love. In the end however you have to say that he has managed to do quite the
opposite.

Karthik (Silambarasan) an aspiring film director, falls head over heals in love
with Jessie(Trisha) at first sight. The problem? He is a Hindu, she is a
conservative Malayali Christian, she has a job and is settled while he is still
at the crossroads of life, trying to find a footing in cinema, having given up
his studies already and to top it all she is a year older than him.

Despite having a great recipe for a classic romantic flick Gautham gets it all
wrong. For starters this movie is a big time overdose of romance with very few
enjoyable moments that you would like to relive over and over again. The
initial sequences between the lead pair seem so artificial and contrary to the
voiceovers Karthik gives at many points during the film. There is no real
chemistry between them, at least for most part. It may be safe to blame the
writing for this which summed up in one word is, unimaginative.

To top that there is nothing innovative about the script and the meandering
screenplay just makes things worse. After a point in time the movie becomes so
much of an ordeal and a test of patience that you manage to easily look through

some genuinely good moments towards the end.

However to Gautham's credit no one would have foreseen the twist in the climax.
Yes it was practical and had that element of surprise but does he expect the
viewer, subjected to almost 3 hours of romance, romance and more listless
romance to walk out of the theatre having been swept off their feet?

Performances wise Trisha single handedly lifts the film up. Sexy and classy she
easily manages to overshadow Silambarasan. Cinematography is one big reason why
this movie passes muster. Very surprisingly there is very little to write home
about AR RAHMAN's background score but he sort of makes up for it in the songs.

If only this movie had more than just love in it (Some healthy humor for
example), if only it had packed in some more interesting events to get rid of
the dryness, if only it had not been so long, if only...if only..There are just
too many of them.

VERDICT: - STRICTLY FOR THE DIE HARD ROMANTICS.

Stars - 2/5.

[arr] VTV-really a pure magic of love!!!

2010-02-27 Thread Ganesh Subramanian
First, we must thank Goutham Vasudev Menon for giving a refreshing and feel
good cinema in the era of useless action masala. Vinnaithandi Varuvaya is
really a pure magic and works a lot with the viewers who easily identify their
own flashback or current memories while watching the lead pair.

oneindiain121:http://entertainment.oneindia.in/tamil/reviews/2010/vinnaithandi-varuvaya-review-270210.html

Karthik (Simbu), a Tamil Hindu mechanical engineer with the dreams of making
films, meets Jessy (Trisha), a Malayalee Christian girl, who is an IT
professional. And yes.. it is love at first sight! She lives on the top floor
with her strict father (Babu Antony), mother and an aggressive brother, while
Karthik and his family have rented out the lower portion of their house.
Karthik’s passionate wooing melts Jessy, who finally succumbs to his ardent
love. But her family and religion stands in the way of true love. Whats
happening for their love is explained in a different way in the climax.

Silambarasan... a great performer! He is really awesome and has done his role
with fantastic touch. His way of expression and his tears in the climax are
really classic. In fact, he exposes his action in a very cool and controlled
manner, which portrays him big. Keep it up Simbu!

And Trisha looks good and has delivered fine performance and even overtakes
Simbu in few scenes as a confused and excited girl with real love. She is
perfectly exposing her possessiveness over Simbu and inability to overcome her
parents in the second half. The chemistry between the lead pair is looking real
and mind boggling.

The character of Ganesh (one of the producers of this film), who appears as a
cameraman cum hero's friend in the film, is really interesting.

The picturisation of the songs is simply remarkable and AR Rahman steals the
hearts with his soothing, mesmerizing melodies like Mannippaya, Hosanna. Manoj
Paramahamsa's camera work is a major plus point of the film. Antony’s editing
without using any gimmicks makes the narration silken smooth.

However, the film Vinnaithandi Varuvaya is having few minor flaws. The slow
phase of the second half and frequent use of bad words (Chennai Tamil) are
major minuses in Goutham's narration. But these are all not preventing one to
enjoy the content of true and painful love of the film!

Cast: Silambarasan, Trisha, Gnanesh

Music: A R Rahman

Camera: Manoj Paramahamsa

Editing: Antony

Art: Rajeevan

Direction: Goutham Vasudev Menon

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya: Celebration of love
Kaanchan [February 6, 2010, 10:33:46 AM]

He swept us off our feet with Minnaleand then waltzed into our hearts
withVaaranam Aayiram. And now, Gautam Menon is all set to woo us
withVinnaithaandi Varuvaaya.
Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya is a celebration of love because:
1. It's a love story and does not pretend to be anything else.
2. We hear that there are no true villains in the movie. At last, the baddies
let love alone!
3. A.R. Rahman has spun some magical melodies, like love portions that make the
stoniest of us wanna fall in love!
4. Trisha looks like the sweetest thing ever -- the truly vulnerable and
absolutely adorable gal that every guy is looking for...
5. Simbu has cleaned up his act. Whoever thought the actor had lost himself in
mass action flicks and punch dialogues, must surely be surprised at his
mellowed-down, sophisticated look in this flick.
6. Gautam Menon has a way with romance. There is something charming, even
though in a very filmi way, about the romantic sequences in his
movie. Vinnathaandi Varuvaaya promises to be the crowing glory.
The movie is a melodic romance that takes us through the love story of a young
couple. Opposites attract, but it's up to the two people to keep that
attraction alive for eternity. These two find out how; watch the movie and be
inspired to fall in love...
It may not be a Valentine’s Day release, but then we don’t need to celebrate
love only on the 14th of February, right! Watch out for Vinnaithaandi
Varuvaaya, releasing on February 19th…

http://www.behindwo ods.com/tamil- movie-news- 1/jan-10- 01/vinnai-
thaandi-varuvaay aa-gautham-menon- 01-01-10. html

Gautham Menon is back again with yet another sizzling and highly anticipated
flick, Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaayaa (VTV), a romantic movie produced with an
international audience in mind. Silambarasan and Trisha Krishnan adorn the
leading roles. The music is scored by the Oscar Winner, the one and only,
A.R.Rahman. 'Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya' is the first audio launch in Tamil for
Rahman after he brought home Oscars and the Golden Globe and expectations are
high among audiences. The lyrics are by Thamarai and the editing done by
Antony.

The film was shot in many picturesque locations including the beautiful Malta
islands near Italy and various locations in the U.S.A including the Big Apple,
New York City, and various scenic spots in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The
audio of the film first rocked the public on a calm Saturday, 18th December in
London at a glamorous function presided by A.R.Rahman himself with playback
singers giving live performances to a full theater. It was received very well
by the public and is sure to raise the anticipation levels. “The music is
really great, so are the visuals in the songs. I expect it to be a blockbuster”
– says Shanker Koladi who attended the audio launch in London.

The movie is scheduled to release on 12th February 2010, very close to
Valentines Day. Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya has seven songs as part of its music
album. The music will be available exclusively on Sony Music and will be
released on January 7th, 2010 internationally. Two95 Entertainment, Inc has
bagged the distribution rights and will be releasing the movie in major cities
of US, Canada & Europe on February 12th. Since it is releasing during the
Valentines season, distributors are expecting a huge opening for VTV.

expect only this type of melodious n pleasing music from u again n again

oscar winner rahman who disappointed us very much in BLUE..on hearing that
promo songof VTV i really felt that my old rahman of ROJA is again back to
satisfy his hardcore south indian fanz..
my hard request to rahmanji is that the western n international culture shud nt
intervene in ur music at any cost for whatsoever becoz u have a laid a genuine
path for urself n u must stay back to it..pl pl pl dont blend ur international
music flavor in our tamil films like VTV,endhiran, raavan etc.becoz it
really sounds so odd in its feel which i felt on hearing BLUE music..
n pl do anyone confirm te audio dates of VTV,raavan n endhiran as early as

[arr] Re: Just watched Couples Retreat!

2009-10-12 Thread Jagdeesh Subramanian
I watched the movies too and its just the typical cues you would have
for any hollywood movie. I actually liked the movie. I don't know if you
watch Vince Vaighan and Will Ferrell movies but this is along the same
lines. Ofcourse not Brat Pack but definitely worth a laugh. Sajna was
used in the first half in the background albeit to a very small extent.

On the whole its Nana that figures in most places.

And Kailash Kher for that song mmm not so sure if that was a good
choice. It was to sound latina american but sounded more indian .

My 2 cents, must watch went with a group of 6 folks (ARR induced
interest) and if you know Vince Vaighan's movies you will love this one
too.

Re: [arr] Agree or disagree?

Completely agree. It is like the difference between Federer and the rest of the
pack. There are some good players in the men's tennis circuit but Federer is
the artist. Similar parallells can be drawn with Golf ( Tiger Woods) and
Cricket ( Sachin)

Very basic difference between AR Rahman and all other MDs in India

AR Rahman is the most artistically successful MD.

Don't get me wrong, there is lots of talent out therereally great music
from other MDs and they need to be applauded for their works. Bu while there
may be better musical entertainers, MDs that sell more commercially, etc. etc.,
I don't think anyone matches the pure artistic sophistication in their music
like AR Rahman and none emphasize the true art of creativity in music better
than AR. Right or wrong?

Artist and entertainer are not mutually exxclusive qualities, but exist on a
continuum. Every MD out there has both qualities. I am saying that AR is the
highest on the artistic side of the continuum. And lest not be said, AR is no
joke when it comes to entertainment value in his music either! AR can rock the
house like anyone's business too!

Rahmaniacs!
As always : No disrespect. Only Respect. Original is king
Funny. I made this mix some 5 months ago and was thinking of ways to make it
sound cooler. I could not find a way to end it by infusing more fun, until I
heard Chiggy Wiggy from BLUE. Rahman has managed a seamless transition from a
R&B groove to bhangra without the feel of two songs stuck together.
This mix of mine is from the movie Alaipayuthey, later made in Hindi called
Saathiya. A simple melody with freshness that does not seem to die out.
Inspired by Chiggy Wiggy, I gave a Gansgta hip-hop groove and finished with a
bhangra ending and I think I managed a smooth transition just like the Chiggy
Wiggy track!
Hence the name, Chiggy Wiggy inspiration edition. I am sure you will love it.
Please dont judge from Laptop speakers!
So here you go.

Guys,

AR has been belting out some great music of late with many songs that stay with
you. Lot of beautiful melodies too in recent years. But, one achievement that I
want ARR to succeed in again is to create a song with such a haunting,
impactful, touching melody that entire India and many abroad would tear up, be
moved, and would consider that song to be one of the greatest melodies of
Indian film song history. Of course, the lyrics and singing of that song would
need to be equally powerful as the melody and the music.

One example of this type of song is "Maa" from Taare Zameen Par (SEL). Shankar
won the national award for it and the song itself was praised to no end by
young and old alike, north, south, east, west. The closest recently that ARR
has come to this recently is Tere Bina from Guru, Khwaja Mere Khwaja from
JA.pan India appreciation and beyond.

I know ARR is capable of this. He just needs the right opportunity in a film.
Who knows, maybe Raavan will be the film

For now, the Blue theme is my favourite. If the sequences are well shot, this

Still loving Blue to the max. Have no problems with CD sound overall. Liking
Chiggy more than I did first. Still can't choose a favorite song! Amazed and in
awe at the mindblowing arrangements and musical intricacy of this album.

Which ARR song helps to get you going in the morning, sparks energy, reduces
tiredness, get you pumped for the day?

Ru Ba Bu from RDB and Masakali from D6 do it for me, not only because of the
music, but lyrics too!

I agree with this 200%
The first time I heard the song, I sort of felt the transition is abrupt
into the bhangra part sung by Sonu but that maybe bcoz they wanted to
edit for the promo. But I must say, I have heard this promo about 10
times now and can't stop myself going overboard.

I so hope this is a full on commercial album. I personally feel ARR
needs that recognition coming out a commercial album and a masala film
to get that mileage. For a long time now its been more of class albums
appeasing connoisseurs and admirers of his music, lets see him hit the
chord with masses too :)

[arr] A R Rahman to take part in 'giving week'

2009-08-14 Thread ramakrisha laxmana subramanian siva gopala acharya iyer .aiyooo amma idli wada dosa sambar chatni .
An estimated two crore Indians — celebrities, corporate leaders and common
citizens — are expected to come together and pitch in with anything they can
give back to society as part of a unique 'Joy of Giving Week' scheduled to
begin on September 27.

Organised by Mumbai-based NGO GiveIndia, the event hopes to tug at the
heartstrings of the country, cutting across all divides, and has already got
commitments from a cross-section that includes Sachin Tendulkar, Azim Premji, A
R Rahman, not to mention government ministries and city civic bodies, Mumbai's
dabbawalas and Chennai's auto unions.

"People can give something back in any manner they choose fit, and there are no
stipulations," said Venkat Krishnan N, director of GiveIndia. "From a
millionaire writing a cheque, to a slumdweller sharing one of his three rotis,
any act of giving is welcome. The aim is to hold it annually in the week of
October 2, with the hope that it continues to grow to become a festival that
all Indians plan for."

Although the event has some parallels such as the Red Rose Day in Britain, the
New York Marathon and the Giving Week in Australia, they are not on the same
national scale as the proposed 'Joy of Giving Week', said Krishnan, an
IIM-Ahmedabad graduate who set up GiveIndia in 2000 to create a "giving
culture" in India by providing people with opportunities to contribute to good
causes, with high standards of transparency and accountability.

The list of names who have endorsed the event and pledged to contribute reads
like a who's who of the country: sports icons such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul
Dravid, Geet Sethi, Prakash Padukone and P Gopichand; Bollywood and regional
film celebrities such as Farah Khan, Rahul Bose, Madhavan and Nagarjuna;
film-makers Anurag Kashyap, Imitiaz Ali, Nandita Das and Maniratnam; music
maestro A R Rahman, and corporate leaders such as Azim Premji, N R Narayana
Murthy, Deepak Parekh, Adi Godrej and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit has committed full participation and support
from her government, reaching out to all schools in Delhi and promoting the
week through the Bhagidari newsletter, and having 'Joyboxes' in all Delhi
government offices. She has also agreed to provide visibility to the week
through bus shelters and at metro stations.

Sachin Pilot and Ambika Soni have offered Telecom, Information and Broadcasting
support to the week. The mov-ement has also found endorsement from West Bengal
Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi, the Bangalore and Ahmedabad city corporations and
the Andhra Tourism Board.
