The unit members broke a Poosnikai the traditional way to complete a film. Now what remains is mixing and other technical work which will take only a week for the first copy to be ready. Ravikumar who has gone to US for some preliminary work of his next film Dasavatharam is expected to be back in Chennai by May 15. The movie is releasing the may 3rd week and it was delayed due to the other movie of ajith that released last week . But the movie has huge competation from Dr PadmaShree Kamalhasssan's Vetiayadu Villayadu (Music Harris Jeyaraj ) and Selvaraghavan's Pudhupettai (Music Yuvan shankar raja) . Interesetingly all the songs are hit and Gautham's Vetiayadu Villaydu is expected to be a cracker . so we have to wait and watch the response for God father. Hi guys,in the recent edition of tamil weekly ananda vikatan, director KSR was being interviewed and according to him, the movie is going to a be treat for ajith fans since it has 3 ajiths. Also its slated for release on May since one song need to be picturised. Further he guarantees all the necessary items for the success of the movie by remarking 'lateaa vandhalum latesta varan Godfather' (meaning eventhoughGodfather is releasing late, but its packed with latest things). Lets hope for the movie's release and KSR further stresses the importance of the music in the film and overall value of the film due to ARRs music. Also he is busy with dasavataram with kamal. A lot of thought has gone into its design, and it shows! So here's a huge, huge, kudos to those behind it (Sumeru Design house must be a major fan of ARR to have poured so much love into this package). I only wish I had a scanner so that everyone can see this beauty. The manufacturing quality is top-notch (thanks to Agi Music who seem to be leagues ahead from other Malaysian music labels like Alai Osai, Five-Star, etc).At S$12.50, it's considerably underpriced compared to international CDs which are normally not less than S$18. But I guess the price will be of some concern to the non-discerning buyer (used to the S$10 or less Malaysian versions) who may not see much value in the package. It's a risk, but a justified one. Hi Guys, My friend told me that godfather might be released on 8th or 10th March. He got the info from a guy working in colliseum. Not really sure about it. Anyone have better info on this.( as far as i know it's posponed to may but now...) If it's really released now, im very sure that the sale of Godfather cd (songs) will be even greater. [arr] Godfather Audio CD (International Edition) - Kudos!
Just wanted to say a HUGE THANKS to the team behind the international edition of the Godfather CD. God knows how long we've been waiting for something like this - that one of our group members (Vijay Iyer, MASSIVE THANKS!) was involved is extremely heartening. I couldn't wait to listen to the songs so I went ahead and bought the Indian edition first, which in its own weird way was attractive (appealing to the target audience in TN I am sure, though the '8th Wonder of the World' tag was patently unnecessary - gosh the extent ppl will go to sell their stuff). But the International version - God almighty! - I couldnt recognize it at first on the shelf at Oli's M3 in Singapore, 'cos I was looking for the usual garish cover; but then, there it was, extreme right of the first row - stunningly elegant, and oh-so-totally-cool! For the first time in a long time, I felt good about buying a Tamil audio CD in Singapore (which usually gets the horribly designed cover versions from Malaysia). As if the picture of ARR in a trance-like smile on the back cover was not stunning enough, the superb poster of Rahman behind the lyric sheet is an invaluable bonus. But let's not forget the immaculately designed package as a whole - well-chosen fonts, clear, crisp printing, eye-pleasing colours, cool montages of Ajit, and the elegant CD label artwork - the whole package looks and feels like a production from an international record label like Sony-BMG or Warner Records. A lot of thought has gone into its design, and it shows! So here's a huge, huge, kudos to those behind it (Sumeru Design house must be a major fan of ARR to have poured so much love into this package). I only wish I had a scanner so that everyone can see this beauty. The manufacturing quality is top-notch (thanks to Agi Music who seem to be leagues ahead from other Malaysian music labels like Alai Osai, Five-Star, etc). At S$12.50, it's considerably underpriced compared to international CDs which are normally not less than S$18. But I guess the price will be of some concern to the non-discerning buyer (used to the S$10 or less Malaysian versions) who may not see much value in the package. It's a risk, but a justified one. I only hope Agi and KM Musiq make a tidy profit so that they can keep up the great work. Here's to more such! PS. I would hesitate to add this, but I think the 'appeal to respect copyright' message could be avoided in future productions - it's the only 'unprofessional' aspect of the CD - but perhaps an understandable one considering it's the first such production. The film supposed to release on February 24 has now been postponed! Last Friday night, music director A.R.Rahman, Crazy Mohan and Ravikumar watched the entire film at the director's home theatre in his office at West Mambalam. Those who saw the film including Rahman says that it has shape out extremely well. Rahman has started the re-recording which will be complete by the end of this week. However a song is yet to be canned. The trouble is that, there is an agreement between Ajit, AVM and the Tamilnadu film distributors federation that Godfather can only release 50 days before or after the release of Tirupati scheduled on April 14. February 24 was the cut-off date and does that mean that Godfather will release only in June? But Balasubramaniam, the Coimbatore based distributor and satellite rights holder of the film says: "Come hell or high water, we will try to release the film by March 17 as Crores are locked in the project. I saw the rushes of the film which is outstanding and is a sure super hit". Now Godfather distributors are putting pressure on Ajit and AVM to postpone Tirupati to May 1, the actor's birthday. Upon a first round of listening to the songs, my favorite was Kamma Karaiyil, a kuthu song with ARR's own special touch setting it apart from the rest of the multitude of such songs being released now...a good song to choreograph a film dance for which is what we are going to do at my UC Berkeley's culture show. Please guys, dont get influenced by these reviews. After about 2 days of constant listening, i was beginning to think that the songs werent that good, so i decided to not listen to it the next day and oh man was i bothered! Each songs took turns playing in my head, and each song began to haunt me, and then i realized the true power of God Father. Please guys, continue listening to this wonderful piece. Lets make this a hit by following our instincts. And also Gopal please dont take the message, that someone from this group wrote seriously. He was just a bit too angry. Deepavali -- ARR has reverted to his prev styles like chikku bukku raile and kuchi kuchi rakkama, by using kids in song..the song is quite good.it grows on you.3. Innisai -- ARR literally teaches Harris Jayaraj how to use a carnatic based tune in commercial cinema compare this song with iyengaaru veetu azhakeARR simply the best.4. Hi all,Did u all notice that lots more of processing and additional effects have been added to the song from the earlier video song version which was there in KM Musiq??The second BGM - after SPB's humming sounds totally different!!! hi friends.. i grabbed my copy of gf cd this afternoon...at first listenin i felt that only innisai and theeyil were great...the others were that kind a songs which would take time to grow..but on the very second listenin i started likin all songs i listened to them so repeatedly that till 7 in the evenin i was listenin again and again...evey time i heard...the more i was drawn to the album..i got instantly addicted... katrilbeautiful hauntin melody which is peppy and foot tappin and grows in u after 3 listenin kamma-surprsin song from rahman...a sure chartbuster...heavy beats combined with the high pitched voice of the female singer works out wonders...with rahman touch.. ilamai-foot tappin and a peppy number which impresses u instantly..another sure hit deepavali-folk number ..typically rahmanish...the children voices add to the flavour of the song... the female voice especially at high pitches is great...superb song innisai-my pick of the album...a brilliant composition...no words to describe...mahathi and naresh s voice are apt and the song gives hair raisin moments theeyil-another awesome song to the list of rahman sung songs..his voice suites the mood so pefectly that the song haunts u for a long time overall...superb album which is a potential hit...will grow in u only after a couple of complete listenings...but will make u hooked to it.. i think that the reason behind why there were so many remixes!!! jai rahman!!! A few observations:The rights for the Indian release was with the producer, who in turn sold it to Star Music, even before KM Musiq came into the picture. This is why the Indian release has none of the goodies that are part of the international release. This has to be the shoddiest packaging ever for an ARR release in his 14 year long career. After a long wait Godfather hits the stalls. All songs potential hits. my favorites songs in order from great to good are 1) Ilamai and its remix are catchy and would be on everyone's lips after one hearing...especially thathimthomthom thomthikithkikithom... 2) Inisai is a great carnatic song after the sangamam days...i luv the chorus version...it has a heavenly feel in it... 3) deepavali...after a longtime ARR came up with a fun song...i like the video tooo...good song 4) kaatril...amazing melody once again...his melodies are top notch, however i feel hey hey sahiba seems to be out of place...but we never know...remember theekuruvil song from kangalal kaidhi sei. it had that yedhoma aama start which i thought was out of place, but in the end that made that song very special. 6) our Boss's song..theeil vizhudha..kalakkal song...its on the lines of mera yaar milade saahiba...sometimes he sounded similar to ilayaraja...if ARR sings in any album, then that album would surely be a great hit...thats been the case always.. 5) and finally ..kamma kamma...this song wud gel well with masses...i still havnt listened to it totally as i'm completely hooked with other songs.. hey guys, i have the Indian Version but the track listing is wrong and i am not sure which one is radio version. I have three different versions of Innisai. One of them is sung by female singers, another has the different kinds of genres like western and dapanguthu, and the third one is the one that is 5 something minutes. So guys just please clarify which one is which, i remember there is a radio mix. Like most of us on this forum, I was waiting for AR Rahman's Godfather with great impatience. We can't get enough of his music, and when Godfather FINALLY came out today, the excitement was immediate. Seeing the previews and trailers is one thing, but listening to the music up close and personal is an entirely different matter. This movie has suffered from endless delays largely due to financial problems. Release date after release date came and went, but no soundtrack. But here we are, February 17, 2006.with the pleasure of unwrapping another gift from our beloved Rahman.the soundtrack for GODFATHER. Rahman has been criticized for abandoning the Tamil audience. I think his fans in the South will be pleased with his latest offering. My first impression was that it certainly had a Tamil flavor, and Rahman is certaining trying to please the masses with this soundtrack. Ilamai and its remix will be instant hits, with fast-paced beats and an infectious hook. Innisai and the 'remix' have a heavy Carnatic feel to them. Katril Oru Vaarthai is a midpaced track that doesn't take many chances, but is catchy all the same. Thotapuram sounds like 'old school' Rahman and is a song that targets the TN audience. All in all a welcome addition to the Rahman library of soundtracks. Like most of his work, one gets to appreciate and enjoy it even more upon subsequent listenings. The song WITH the dapangguthu wester beat is the RADIO MIX [not used in movie but ARR just release it in the audio ] :D i think i got it right...and i believe Sandhavi only sang for the chorus part in Innisai not the whole song as the credit shows. I listened to the Godfather music today, thanks to the RAAGA.COM lead given by a group member. My Pick of this album are these two songs Theeyil Vizhundha Katril. The first one is classic ARR song and also sung by him very well, in the category of Kannathil Muthalmittal. Gives you that 'uneasy' feeling within you. Outstanding BOSS ! The second one Kathril has an arabic touch, which is, I think 3 songs on the trot for ARR. Sung well by Sadhana ( I am biased for Sadhana, know her since ages ! ) and supported well by the great SPB and others. All in all a good album, with these two gems, it is a ++ album. This is why the Indian release has none of the goodies that are part of the international release. This has to be the shoddiest packaging ever for an ARR release in his 14 year long career.
