 Has anybody tried changing the Remedy Notification Method in
 the NTE:CFG-Notification Events form from Alert to Email?
 Does that actually work and change all the defaults for all
 users to email?

 I know that I can do it on an individual basis by configuring
 a user based notification rule to use email, but since the
 company uses email for everything, and we have over 6000
 users, doing it all manually for each user is unreasonable.

Wondering if this may a weird thing with my PCs, or has anyone else had this

Out of Hours Flag not working

2008-02-11 Thread Shawn Stonequist
Greetings List!

We are trying to setup something to identify tickets/requests which are
entered out of hours.

We are using Remedy 6.3. I tried enabling a Business Calendar, however, the
second tab never shows the fields- as if they are hidden waiting for an
action before they display. I'm afraid of changing any workflow for fear of
breaking the entire thing.

When this didn't work, I tried creating my own, however, the TIME Keyword
didn't work on just time (or rather the time entered to compare TIME again
didn't work- it changed it to a full Date/Time, which of course it ALWAYS
fires after that date).

Does anyone know how to work around this?

Huge thanks in advance!

 Hello,

 7.0.1Patch 6) in order to provide spell-checking on a specific form.

 I am wondering if anyone else has successfully setup this program and
 implemented it with Mid-Tier.

 Here is what I have done so far:

 - Placed the jspellhtml2k4.war file into my Tomcat-webapps
 directory and was able to test the spell checker successfully with
 http://hostname/jspellhtml2k4/test.html

 - Loaded the form I wanted to implement spell-checking with in
 the admin tool and clicked on EDIT WEB HEADER CONTENT and added the header
 content specified by the help file:

 script language=JavaScript src=jspell.js/script

 script language=JavaScript

 !--

 function getSpellCheckArray() {

 var fieldsToCheck=new Array();

 // make sure to enclose form/field object reference in quotes!

 fieldsToCheck[fieldsToCheck.length]=document.getElementById('arid55012154');

 return fieldsToCheck;

 }

 var language;

 //--/script

 - I also added the content specified to trigger the spell check
 in the active link for the spell check button I have on the form.

 My problem is that Mid-Tier is actually sticking the SCRIPT
 type=text/javascript language=javascript (and so on) /SCRIPT
 information in the body of the document instead of the head of the document,
 so my call to functions on the form from the activelink does not seem to be
 working. Furthermore, the javascript in the activelink does not seem to
 see the form it is running on.

 For example, in the activelink, if I choose RUN PROCESS and type:

 Javascript alert(document.getElementById('arid55012154').value)

 I get Object null

 arid55012154 is specified on the form itself when I view the form as an
 html page, right-click, and go to VIEW SOURCE.

 There is a field, for example, that says textarea id=arid55012154

 I'm hoping that someone can either tell me how to ensure that my SCRIPT
 tags are being put into the HEAD section of the document instead of the
 BODY, or give me other suggestions as to how to properly setup JSpell to
 work with Remedy.

 Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Company Dropping Remedy

Is there any interest in using Remedy in a Software as a Service model? If
the software was available on a quarter by quarter lease basis with support

others ask if we can take the rest of IT too :).

Just curious what the thoughts are about that. (Sorry if this got posted

Replicating production to report server

2008-02-11 Thread Fossett, Darrel
Some in our company want to use database replication to copy production
to a report server. This means that we would have two separate
instances of remedy on separate databases.

I went through a little work of trying this a while back but we had
trouble with performance and the database replication did not like the
Request Id field as the unique identifier. I don't remember the
specifics it has been a little while back.

We need to have both servers up at all times for reporting needs and
live production system.

Has anybody ever done something like this?
If so what platform and apps did you use to do the transfer?

I just want to make sure that someone has done this before so that I
know that it can be done.

Re: Configuring JSpell with Mid-Tier 7.0.1 Patch 6

2008-02-11 Thread Timothy Powell
Here's what we did to get it to work for multiple fields on the same form:

ARS 6.3 with MT 7.0 Patch 2

1) Using at least a 6.3 Admin Tool, on the form where we wanted to check the
spelling.
Go to the Form/Current View/Properties and the Appearance tab.
Add the following to the web header portion:

script language=JavaScript
src=http://servername/jspellhtml2k4/jspell.js;/script
script language=JavaScript
!--
var fieldsToCheck=new Array();

function ourSpellCheck(fieldName)
{
 fieldsToCheck=new Array();
 fieldsToCheck[fieldsToCheck.length]=fieldName;
 spellcheck();
}

function getSpellCheckArray() {
 return fieldsToCheck;
}
//--
/script

form name = Helpdesk

2) On the web footer we added the following:

/form

3) We created a button on our form for each field we wanted to check.

4) We added an active link for each field we wanted to check.
The AL fires on click of the button created in 3 above.
Run If: $CLIENT-TYPE$ = 9
If Action: Run Process
Command Line: javascript
ourSpellCheck('document.yourformname.aridxxx')

NOTE: xx = the arid of the field you want to check

5) In JSpell, on the popup.html form, we added the following line:
body onload = window.focus()

Tim

Re: User Form ARS 7.0.01 (UNCLASSIFIED)

2008-02-11 Thread Wheeler, Dylan
I've had some patches blow out User form changes over the years from
using the executable to patch the server. So if you patch by using the
binary files you shouldn't have a problem. If you patch by the
executables then keep that in mind that you might lose the field and
it's data.

If it was me I'd create another small regular form to hold the region
and then create a join when you want to access the regional data. That
way you don't have to worry about losing anything. I try and stay away
from making User form changes whenever possible.

I agree with John Rosquists response. Use the People form. ITSM 7.0.x
has become very specific and you want to minimize the customizations or
hire someone intimate with the underpinnings (there are not very many of
us around and we are costly).

North, South, East and West could be set up using Company. Just allow
the people which criss-cross companies to be in each others Company.

I am thinking of adding a field to the user form to help with sorting

OT: Strauss / Outlook 2003 CrashingNo problems here either receiving
Strauss's email...

However, sometimes I do notice I do not get ALL emails.. I know this as I
have a yahoo account ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) that I use too and sometimes
mails I receive here on this account - I don't on yahoo - and vice versa..
accounts for about 1% to 2% of mails.

I wonder if its because of timeouts or something during the actual
distribution of mails where the distribution fails on some email addresses??
I receive no header nothing.. As if the mail was not sent at all to that
address...

Anyone having 2 accounts on the ARS List have noticed this?

  Hi All,

  Odd question, but the last couple of posts Strauss has sent to the ARSList
don't open on either of my PCs, either in a preview, or by double-clicking
them. I haven't noticed this with anyone else's posts.

  When I try to open them, Outlook crashes. Both PCs are running Outlook

  Wondering if this may a weird thing with my PCs, or has anyone else had
this problem?

It could be the fonts. Outlook 2003 replies to HTML using Arial font.
Both the Outlook 2007 I put on my Mac with Office 2007, and the new
installation of Outlook 2007 the University has distributed since the
campus converted to Exchange 2007 default to two odd fonts when replying
to HTML - Calabri for the body and Cambria for the heading. This is the
default Outlook 2007 behavior - I don't waste time twiddling with such
things. I can't wait to see what Entourage 2008 in Office 2008 for Mac
does to my postings! Pine, anyone?

How about this one? It is from Outlook 2003 on XP. Sometimes I post

You need to create your own soap-plugin to support this...

It certainly has gotten less difficult now that we can create Java-based
plug-ins (in 7.1); however, it's still a whole lot easier to do this kind of
thing with the XML Gateway.

Shameless plug:  http://www.javasystemsolutions.com/jss/xmlgateway

It also neatly solves the problem of consuming incoming simple XML documents as
well as complex incoming SOAP messages.

** Good Morning and happy Friday,

I have been appointed to to ping the ITSM 7 community on new employee
on-boarding methodology.

By using only the following modules -

ARS 7.x
Mid-Tier 7.x
CMDB 2.x
Incident 7.0.x
Problem 7.0.x
SLM 7.x
and maybe Change 7.x

Where are you starting to create the main record?
Incident, then create child-tasks?
Change, then create child-tasks?

Please keep in mind that the Service Desk will only be handling on-boarding
process
.
I know of SRM and third party products that will handle on-boarding, I just
need to see how other companies are defining it without them.

Thanks for your input and have a great weekend.

North, South, East and West could be set up using Company. Just allow

Has anybody ever done something like this?
If so what platform and apps did you use to do the transfer?

I just want to make sure that someone has done this before so that I
know that it can be done.

Re: Replicating production to report server

2008-02-11 Thread Mike Wallick
We do this (not for every form, however).

There are a subset of forms that we replicate to another SQL server
using standard SQL server replication for reporting and the like. We
don't run ITSM, but we do run Customer Support and several other
home-grown apps.

For example, we don't need reporting (currently, anyway) for the
entire support app, so we just replicate SHARE:Company, SHARE:Account,
SPRT:Product_Owned, SHARE:Person, SHARE:Contact_base,
SHARE:Employee_base, and SPRT:Issue. This seems to work well, SQL
server doesn't seem to care about the Request ID field, just as long
as it's tagged as a primary key column. Performance doesn't seem to be
an issue (CS seems to be inherently slow anyway).

Again, this works well for us, but we're not even close to replicating
every form from the Remedy server.

SQL Server 2005 (replica/data warehouse server)

 **

 Dear All,

 I have a query regarding ARSystem services on a unix server.

 I have a requirement wherein the remedy database needs to be shutdown for
 a particular task. I have a shell script in place for this. It does the
 following:

 1) The shell script shuts down ARS services, checks for the message:
 Action Request System shutdown process complete

 2) Shuts down the DB, performs the task and restarts the DB.

 3) Once the DB is up, ARS services is started and checks the message:
 Action Request System initialization is complete.

 I am not sure if the above steps are an efficient way to detect ARS
 services. Is there a better way of checking ARS services from within a shell
 script?

 Thanks,

 Prashant

Sorry for the mis-interpretation. If your system is custom, you can
pretty much do what you want. Just add a field for Geo-Location in
addition to any other Location type fields. If you plan to go to ITSM
you will have to do it with more strict constraints.

Again, even on a custom system, you may have issues with people who
criss-cross different Geo areas. An example may be a manager which needs
to be able to access both North and South. My rule of thumb has always
been to make sure the field is 3rd Normal Relational Form. In other
words it is only updated in one and only one place.

I agree with John Rosquists response. Use the People form. ITSM 7.0.x
has become very specific and you want to minimize the customizations or
hire someone intimate with the underpinnings (there are not very many of
us around and we are costly).

North, South, East and West could be set up using Company. Just allow

 don't open on either of my PCs, either in a preview, or by double-clicking

 Wondering if this may a weird thing with my PCs, or has anyone else had

Re: Newbie: form with links to frequently accessed forms

2008-02-11 Thread Eric Cleereman (IT)
Stephen,

Thanks for providing this approach. Since reading this, I've tried this, and
it works beautifully.

I have a lot of forms I need to access on a regular basis. This method allows
me to quickly drill down to whichever form I need, on whichever server I need,
using whichever view I need. This really speeds administration up a lot.

A couple tweaks I added to this were as follows:
 - Search / Submit mode buttons to allow opening in either mode. In
   Search mode, all fields are blank, in Submit mode, they are default
   values.

 - Server Dropdown list, for choosing to open on an alternate server.
   Done from a lookup form, as Dev, QC, Prod, etc...

 - Workflow to populate form name based on display name or vice versa.
   Done using Application-Get-Form-Name or Application-Get-Form-Alias.

 - Workflow to populate VUI field with default VUI.
   select DEFAULTVUI from ARSCHEMA where NAME='$Form Name$'

 - Attached menu for selecting VUIs for a given form.
   select VUINAME from VUI where SCHEMAID=(select SCHEMAID from
   ARSCHEMA where NAME = '$536870916$')

I also start the names of the most frequently used forms with a space, so they
sort to the top of the table.

Thanks again.

Subject: Re: Newbie: form with links to frequently accessed forms

Ravi,

Here is another approach, something I implemented here. I have about 80 forms
that I frequently need to open and search. Using the Find option in the Object
List (Ctrl+O, Find, enter text, click Find) is not convenient to me.

I use a Table Field on a display-only/control panel form that points to a
Regular form containing the names of forms I wish to open. I use an active
link that opens the form when I double-click a row in the Table field.

Regular form fields:
'Display Name' A friendly name for the form.
'Form Name' ARS form name, or URL.
'VUI Name' ARS VUI name.
'URL' Checkbox if the entry is a URL.

The Table Field shows the 'Display Name' and 'Form Name' columns. The URL field
is included but hidden.

On double-click the active link opens the form, or if the 'URL' checkbox is
checked then it opens the URL.

For opening ARS forms (not URLs) the Open Window command uses $SERVER$ for the
Server Name field, $col Form Name$ for the Form Name field, and $col VUI Name$
for the Form View field. The Window Type is set to Search and the Target
Location is set to New.

For opening URLs, I use this Run Process command:

rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler $col Form Name$

I only need this for Windows User Tool. You could use the Run Process command
PERFORM-ACTION-OPEN-URL new to open URLs in mid-tier.

Creating this only took about 30 minutes and I use it every single day for my
administration. Anytime I find myself opening a form that is not in this list
of forms I just add a record to the Regular form field (described above) and
from them on all I need to do is double-click in the Table field and it's
opened for me.

To enhance this you could add a checkbox to open the form in New mode instead
of Search mode. I seldom need to open in New mode so when I need to, I first
open in Search modem then select Edit Copy to New.

If you have the People form, you should use it. You should be able to modify
the region menu to accomplish your goals. Another one might be the site group.
Alternatively, add a menu item to the people form.

Modifying the core form is strongly discouraged. If you are really insisting
on using the user form, you can, but be careful and use good programming
practices. Pay attention that your customizations on all future patches and

Re: 7.1 Server License Question

2008-02-11 Thread LJ Longwing
The back and forth I have gotten on this is as such. If you upgrade your
7.0 server to 7.1, the 7.0 license will work just fine. If you however
delete or need to re-apply the license you don't have sufficient fields in
the License form to apply it properlyso you either need to import the
LIC file that has it all configured properly, or get a 7.1 license for the
same server...but you need to get your rep involved...because a simple purge
won't do it.

Re: 7.1 Server License Question

2008-02-11 Thread Easter, David
It doesn't have to be re-issued, but it does have to be converted. The
conversion will happen as part of an upgrade - or you can import your
pre-7.1 license file using the Admin Console (NOT Admin Tool).

The format of the keys changed between 7.0.01 and 7.1.00 - so you cannot
use the same key across versions. That may be where the confusion is
coming from... so it is correct to say you can't use a 7.0 server
license key for a 7.1.00 server, but it is incorrect to say that it has
to be reissued.

Subject: Check ARS services from Unix shell script

**

Dear All,

I have a query regarding ARSystem services on a unix server.

I have a requirement wherein the remedy database needs to be shutdown
for a particular task.

I am not sure if the above steps are an efficient way to detect ARS
services. Is there a better way of checking ARS services from within a shell
script?

Thanks,

Prashant

Re: Consuming Complex Web Service

2008-02-11 Thread Ajit Patil
Hello,

Remedy does not provide such container/field which will hold the multiple
values (like array).

You can see your result in Mid-Tier log file where it shows each individual
result.

There is no mechanism in Remedy to collect those results.

Instead you can write your own container in Java or whatever you like to
collect those results.

Hope this'll help you...

Thanks

Re: 7.1 Server License Question

2008-02-11 Thread Joe D'Souza
While we are on this topic, is there a good reason why the license
functionality along with some other functionalities like Server Information
etc. partially deprecated and disabled from the Admin tool???

We had a problem not so long ago where we had an issue with AR plugin, and
could not access these functionalities from the vendor forms on the user
tool till we fixed the plugin problem..

Is it possible to re-enable these functions from the Admin tool where they
seem to work better and faster than from the Admin tool?

Re: Replicating production to report server

2008-02-11 Thread Rick Cook
I know that it can be done (at least on Solaris/Sybase), but to do it right,
you need to have a DBA who is willing to be a part of the Remedy team.
(S)he will need to understand Remedy architecture enough to know what to use
and what to leave alone, and have a significant time commitment to invest
into the constant changes that are part of most Remedy environments.

Java 7.1 Form Information

the form type so I know it's in there somewhere. Any assistance is

Configuring JSpell with Mid-Tier 7.0.1 Patch 6

2008-02-11 Thread Latter, Kris
Hello,

I'm having an issue in trying to setup the JSpell program that has been
recommended on this list with: (Server, Admin Tool, and Mid-Tier all
7.0.1 Patch 6) in order to provide spell-checking on a specific form.

- Loaded the form I wanted to implement spell-checking with in
the admin tool and clicked on EDIT WEB HEADER CONTENT and added the
header content specified by the help file:

script language=JavaScript src=jspell.js/script

script language=JavaScript

!--

function getSpellCheckArray() {

var fieldsToCheck=new Array();

// make sure to enclose form/field object reference in quotes!

fieldsToCheck[fieldsToCheck.length]=document.getElementById('arid550121
54');

return fieldsToCheck;

}

var language;

//--/script

- I also added the content specified to trigger the spell check
in the active link for the spell check button I have on the form.

My problem is that Mid-Tier is actually sticking the SCRIPT
type=text/javascript language=javascript (and so on) /SCRIPT
information in the body of the document instead of the head of the
document, so my call to functions on the form from the activelink does
not seem to be working. Furthermore, the javascript in the activelink
does not seem to see the form it is running on.

I'm hoping that someone can either tell me how to ensure that my
SCRIPT tags are being put into the HEAD section of the document
instead of the BODY, or give me other suggestions as to how to
properly setup JSpell to work with Remedy.

Any help would be appreciated.

7.1 Server License Question

2008-02-11 Thread Howard Richter
I hope everyone's day is going well.

I need to verify something on the 7.1 server licenses. Does a 7.0 server
license need to be reissued if you upgrade to 7.1.

One BMC support person said yes and another said no.

Thanks and have a great week,

 2003, one is Windows XP, and the other is Windows XP SP2.

 Wondering if this may a weird thing with my PCs, or has anyone else had
 this problem?

Re: Strauss / Outlook 2003 Crashing

2008-02-11 Thread Wheeler, Dylan
Maybe they're using the -MessWithJoe argument in the subject line :)

I have two accounts, haven't noticed it but don't watch my home one much
unless I'm off sick from work.

Just logged in to home
Work email - 1709 since 01/01/2008
Home - 1716 since 01/01/2008

However, I have deleted a few of the I don't disable myself from the
list when I'm on vacation emails from my work computer lately so it
could be pretty even.

No problems here either receiving Strauss's email...

However, sometimes I do notice I do not get ALL emails.. I know
this as I have a yahoo account ([EMAIL PROTECTED]
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ) that I use too and sometimes mails I
receive here on this account - I don't on yahoo - and vice versa..
accounts for about 1% to 2% of mails.

I wonder if its because of timeouts or something during the
actual distribution of mails where the distribution fails on some email
addresses?? I receive no header nothing.. As if the mail was not sent at
all to that address...

Anyone having 2 accounts on the ARS List have noticed this?

Joe

Re: User Form ARS 7.0.01 (UNCLASSIFIED)

2008-02-11 Thread Mayfield, Andy L.
Sorry guys, I should have been more specific. We use just the core ARS.
We do not use ITSM or any of BMC's canned products.

Good Morning All,

I am thinking of adding a field to the user form to help with sorting
technicians by geographical areas (North, South, East, West). Does
anyone know of any gotcha's with this? Are there any reasons why I
should not do this?

Thanks,

Re: Patch 006 Question.....

2008-02-11 Thread Joe D'Souza
The patch level of the User tool has very little to do with the upgrade of a
patch level of your ITSM application. And if you are using ARS 7.0.1, the
user tool and the ARS Server is still on Patch 3.. If you are on ARS 7.1,
the latest patch is Patch 1.

Its only the ITSM applications 7.0 that have got 6 patches released till
date..

  **
  Hey Gang,

  I am about to install AR Server, Mid-Tier Server, Email Engine,
Flashboards, Approval Server and ITSM patch 006 of version 7.0.01, in
production. Can my users still use patch 005 of the User Tool for a bit or
do I need to update them with patch 006 of the User Tool at the same time I
am patching my system?

  Any help would be great.
