Re: error while sending emails

2008-03-27 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi!

You will probably find the specific outgoing message with an Error-status
in AR System Email Messages.

Try to resend it to see if something in the record is the problem.

Set the debug mode to truee to see exactly what happens if you are able to
reproduce the problem.

NetAct and Ventyx Integrations

2008-03-27 Thread Wayne Keenan
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any details on NetAct and Ventyx integration
with Remedy, product info or project related.
I'm comfortable with any sort of integration, be it DB, SOAP, RPC, C/Java,
etc, as I'm after details for ways of communication (transports, e.g RPC,
JMS) and the operations and message types (e.g. CStruct, XML Schema)
supported by each product.

Any added experience that you have of how that information was mapped to ARS
would also be of use. :)

Auto-Close Help Desk Problems (ITSM 5.6)

2008-03-27 Thread BROTONS Oscar
Hello,

I have seen that our Help desk Cases Type problem are not automatically
closed because the escalation HPD:HPD-AutoClose has ($TIMESTAMP$ >
'Auto-close Time') AND ( 'Status' = "Resolved") AND (( 'IncidentID' !=
"Original" ) OR ( 'IncidentID' = $NULL$ )) as condition.

It's standard or could be a customization?

If it's standard, it must be a problem manager who manually closes the
problems?

 Thank you.

CMDB Relationships

2008-03-27 Thread Kevin Murray
Hi All,

I'm trying to figure out how best to map some "relationships" in the
CMDB. If anyone has any guidance if would
be appreciated.

Scenarios:

We have two switches, both considered in-use at any point in time.
They are considered peers in one sense, but in another, one of the
switches is considered the primary switch for a business service, in
the event there is a problem with it, the second switch is considered
the primary switch for the business service. If you have this
scenario, how have you mapped it in the CMDB, in terms of the
relatioship between the switches to acknowledge this configuration?

On a similar vein, How have others mapped software clusters where
there is a active/passive configuration?

Have you had to add data attributes at the CI layer to describe these
scenarios more crisply, or have you used OOTB relationship types or
added your own.

Thanks,
Kevin

ARS6.3 + SQL Question (UNCLASSIFIED)

2008-03-27 Thread Bennett, Charlie CTR MDA/DOCC
Classification: UNCLASSIFIED
Caveats: NONE

Hi All!

I'm having a small problem getting my Remedy 6.3 app to talk to a remote
MSSQL Server 2K SP3 database running on a Win2k3, SP2 machine. My AR server
is running on a Win2k SP4 machine, with the AR System database running on a
MSSQL Server 2K SP4 database on the same machine.

I've created an active link to grab some user information stored in the
remote server upon Return/Table or Level Dbl-Clk in a Set Field (SQL) action
- it's supposed to go out, query based on the name entered into a submitter
field and find possible matches and populate related user info fields, or
display a select list if multiple matches come back. Here's a chopped down
and simplified version of the query I'm working with (I've simplified it as
much as possible, but to no avail):

SELECT FirstName, LastName FROM SERVERNAME.phonebook.dbo.vw_tbl_ARS TARS
WHERE TARS.LastName LIKE '%$Submitter$%'

I've verified that I've got DTC running on both machines. I've set the
remote server up as a linked server, with it set to impersonate with a
specific security context. I've verified this is working because I can see
the views/tables under the linked server in EntpMgr. I am able to run the
above query from my active link in QryAlzr just fine. However, when I go in
through the user tool and enter a name into the submitter field and fire the
active link, I get this error:

"ARERR [552] Failure during SQL operation to the database : The ROLLBACK
TRANSACTION request has no corresponding BEGIN TRANSACTION. (SQL Server
3903)
The preceding message occurred during the execution of active link
+NTFAR:050-Set Submitter Info - TEST -- action 1. (ARNOTE 1101)"

I'm at the end of my rope here. Hopefully someone has seen this before and
knows what's up. Perhaps I'm overlooking something embarassingly silly
here? - I hope so!

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Handling email replies to notifications in ITSM 7

2008-03-27 Thread Benedetto Cantatore
I set this functionality up at my last company. I know from previous
discussions on this that other admins have their own take on how to
implement. My method is this: Instruct users to not touch the subject
line. My workflow hinges on having the full 15 characters. I then key
off the 0 in the subject line. Its not full proof, but if user are not
tampering with the subject line, then this works fine.

Once I find the 0, I subtract 3 characters to get the start position.
I then retrieve 15 characters from the start position and store that in
a field. That should be your ticket number.

Use a like statement with the prefix to determine which module's
worklog you need to route to. Set up a push field action and push over
what you want to that worklog. Create a filter for each of the modules
that you'll do a push to.

Obviously I glossed over a lot of details, but that's the general gist
of how I did it. Hopefully that'll spark ideas on how to get it done
for your company. I'll be happy to respond to specific questions.

>>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 03/26/08 11:17 PM >>>

After over 7 years of running Rem-Mail with my Help Desk 4.0 and 5.5
systems, it will be hard to convince my users that there is nothing in
ITSM 7 to reply to. I have observed several lengthy "conversations"
about handling incoming email over the last year +, but have had to
ignore them while fighting other battles to get our system ready for
production. Since several of you have addressed this problem already,
what are your opinions on the best (and simplest) ways to turn a
customer's reply to a notification into a work log entry (which is
what
we do now in Rem-Mail)? Or is there a better tactic? I am familiar
with creating a work log entry for a specific Incident since we are
already doing that from follow-up service items in Kinetic Request.
Unlike the HPD:IncidentInterface_Create form (which works just fine
for
creating incidents), I have found that the HPD:IncidentInterface join
form is virtually impossible to work with (and endangers existing
data)
so that I would much rather work directly in the HPD:WorkLog form.

So, what has worked best for those of you who have already tackled
this
issue??

ARS and AREmail 7.1.00.002
ITSM 7.0.02/03.007
SLM 7.1.00
Win2K3 Ent x64
Exchange Server 2000 (yeah, really - I know I need to upgrade...)

I don't have to worry too much about people replying to the SLM
notifications, now that I know that the integration to Incident
Management was improperly designed and fails to send any of them to
assigned support groups; there damn near aren't any going out!! :(

Use an OPENQUERY in a local SQL View that points to the remote server.

CREATE VIEW dbo.uvw_MyRemoteView

Then in your workflow:

SELECT FirstName, LastName FROM uvw_MyRemoteView WHERE LastName LIKE

I was trying to upgrade our SQL 2000 server to SQL 2005 but I can't get it to
complete succesfully. So I tried to just uninstall SQL 2000 and install SQL
2005 and was successfull. My question now is it a bad idea to just attach our
ARSystem database from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 server? I just attached it and
seems like it's working fine but I just want to make sure if that is not going
to screw up later... I was told that I need to upgrade the database to SQL 2005
and I'm not sure if attaching the old database to SQL 2005 is considered
upgrading my database... Please help.

  Jason

Re: SQL 2000 database to SQL 2005 server

2008-03-27 Thread Baxter, Andrew

To the best of my knowledge, SQL 2005 will perform the upgrade as part
of the attachment. I have done this before where I was moving a
database to a new server and it was previously SQL 2000 and attaching it
to SQL 2005 worked with no issues encountered.

Thanks,

Andrew Baxter

I looked in the patch folders on the BMC site and can't find a patched

** Actually, there is no 'Red Hat' version -- just the Linux version of
arimportcmd and will work on SUSE as well as on Red Hat - check the

I suggest rebuilding the workstation. Obviously there's something

This error normally occurs when the table name that is being provided is
different from the actual name in the db. Check for the name, spelling of
the table in the database. The table name is case sensitive also. Hence take
care of that as well while providing the name of the table. Also make sure
that the table is in the aradmin d/b. Hope that helps.

First Contact Resolution (FCR) ITIL & ITSM 7

2008-03-27 Thread Kevin Pulsen
Hello all,

I'm trying to find information on FCR (First Contact Resolution) specifically
for the Service Desk person.

Is there a starting goal within ITIL regarding FCR?

For example... the Service Desk needs to meet a 35% FCR goal.

Or is this number subjective?

If anyone is using FCR, could you please let me know your goal is and what
factors you used to assess this goal.

Thanks!

Kevin P.

Re: View Forms

2008-03-27 Thread Brian Goralczyk
Not true. She doesn't need the T table. First off, if it isn't an ARS
table there might (probably won't) be a T table unless it was created
manually. However, you can still use the view instead. If it is a Remedy
created table, then the view name has a specific format. All none
alphanumeric characters are replaced with an underscore. Also, view names
in an Oracle (and I assume the others) database is only 30 characters long
if Remedy created the view. So if your view (form) name is longer than 30
characters just drop the exceeding characters. There is one other caveat in
case you have more than one view name that is the same until past the 30
character limit. The last letter (number 30) is replaced by a sequential
number starting with the second form and incrementing for each form. Check
out my examples but please don't name your forms as such or think that I
have mine named like this.

Form Name: CTM:People Site AP:Administration Join
View Name: ctm_people_site_ap_administrat

Form Name: CTM:People Site AP:Administration Role Join
View Name: ctm_people_site_ap_administra2

Please only use this as an example. I didn't verify my thoughts from off
the top of my head.

Also, if you want the list of views just run this: select view_name from
user_views order by 1

That will work in an Oracle db for sure.

Also, I have not found a case sensitivity for form or field names when
writing SQL queries.

HTH,

Brian Goralczyk

I think the space in the table (view) name is causing you a problem:

.vw_tbl_ARS TARS

The system has probably replaced the space with an underscore.

I think it's talking about the CMDB data model. Be sure that you've set up

Re: Installation Question...

2008-03-27 Thread Rick Cook
Each set of version combinations is a bit different in its quirks, so I'll
leave that to Support or to someone who's in the middle of the same thing
right now. You didn't mention specific version/patch info, but I would take
whatever you plan to use and run that combo past support to see if they know
of any gotchas.

One thing you might do is a DB backup after each stage (i.e. AR install,
CMDB install...), so that if the next stage gets hosed, it's easier to
restart.

Every company is going to be different - some companies I know give

Re: View Forms

2008-03-27 Thread Kemes, Lisa
These are not ARS tables. Just plain old tables from an Oracle
database. Our DBA was able to log into SQL developer with the aradmin
account and see these tables just fine. For some reason, my admin tool
must not be using the aradmin account for view forms? I'm connected to
our ARS database so it's working in that respect.

These are not owned by aradmin either, but it is in the permission
group.

Not true. She doesn't need the T table. First off, if it isn't an ARS
table there might (probably won't) be a T table unless it was created
manually. However, you can still use the view instead. If it is a
Remedy created table, then the view name has a specific format. All
none alphanumeric characters are replaced with an underscore. Also,
view names in an Oracle (and I assume the others) database is only 30
characters long if Remedy created the view. So if your view (form) name
is longer than 30 characters just drop the exceeding characters. There
is one other caveat in case you have more than one view name that is the
same until past the 30 character limit. The last letter (number 30) is
replaced by a sequential number starting with the second form and
incrementing for each form. Check out my examples but please don't name
your forms as such or think that I have mine named like this.

Form Name: CTM:People Site AP:Administration Join
View Name: ctm_people_site_ap_administrat

Form Name: CTM:People Site AP:Administration Role Join
View Name: ctm_people_site_ap_administra2

Please only use this as an example. I didn't verify my thoughts from
off the top of my head.

Also, if you want the list of views just run this: select view_name from
user_views order by 1

That will work in an Oracle db for sure.

Also, I have not found a case sensitivity for form or field names when
writing SQL queries.

Verify records prior to import of people

2008-03-27 Thread Daniel Weise
We are running AR System 7.01 connecting to an Oracle 10g database.
We are maintaining our people by importing the records from a view
against our Lawson HR data. We take this and populate a staging table
and then run Active links to look for and populate any changes to the
people records. We repopulate the staging table with fresh data
nightly. I want to verify there are records in the Lawson view before
clearing the staging table. Any ideas what I could do to accomplish
this?

Re: View Forms

2008-03-27 Thread Brian Goralczyk
If you can log into the database as ARADMIN and see the tables then you
should be able to create the Remedy view. It would seem to me that you
might just want to create a simple form that runs the query "select
table_name from user_tables order by 1" so that you can see the list of
tables (and any odd naming) that are available to the Remedy server. Often
times this is a simple way to make sure you get the name right. If you run
an active link with a set fields / sql command and make that your sql
statement, you can then populate a field with the table name so that you can
just cut and paste.

Re: Verify records prior to import of people

2008-03-27 Thread Brian Gillock
Have you thought about using the Atrium Integration Engine for this? We are
doing pretty much the same thing. The AIE gives several options for
creating and updating records.

Subject: Verify records prior to import of people

We are running AR System 7.01 connecting to an Oracle 10g database.
We are maintaining our people by importing the records from a view
against our Lawson HR data. We take this and populate a staging table
and then run Active links to look for and populate any changes to the
people records. We repopulate the staging table with fresh data
nightly. I want to verify there are records in the Lawson view before
clearing the staging table. Any ideas what I could do to accomplish
this?

** If you can log into the database as ARADMIN and see the tables then
you should be able to create the Remedy view. It would seem to me that
you might just want to create a simple form that runs the query "select
table_name from user_tables order by 1" so that you can see the list of
tables (and any odd naming) that are available to the Remedy server.
Often times this is a simple way to make sure you get the name right.
If you run an active link with a set fields / sql command and make that
your sql statement, you can then populate a field with the table name so
that you can just cut and paste.

Not true. She doesn't need the T table. First off, if it isn't
an ARS table there might (probably won't) be a T table unless it was
created manually. However, you can still use the view instead. If it
is a Remedy created table, then the view name has a specific format.
All none alphanumeric characters are replaced with an underscore. Also,
view names in an Oracle (and I assume the others) database is only 30
characters long if Remedy created the view. So if your view (form) name
is longer than 30 characters just drop the exceeding characters. There
is one other caveat in case you have more than one view name that is the
same until past the 30 character limit. The last letter (number 30) is
replaced by a sequential number starting with the second form and
incrementing for each form. Check out my examples but please don't name
your forms as such or think that I have mine named like this.

Form Name: CTM:People Site AP:Administration Join
View Name: ctm_people_site_ap_administrat

Form Name: CTM:People Site AP:Administration Role Join
View Name: ctm_people_site_ap_administra2

Please only use this as an example. I didn't verify my thoughts
from off the top of my head.

Also, if you want the list of views just run this: select
view_name from user_views order by 1

That will work in an Oracle db for sure.

Also, I have not found a case sensitivity for form or field
names when writing SQL queries.

2008-03-27 Thread Brian Goralczyk
Daniel,

You could create a display only field on a control form that would run a
query against the database returning only the first record or a record
count, and then make sure that the field is either not null or doesn't equal
0 before running the rest of the process.

Installation Order for ARS products and the ITSM Suite

Detailed Installation process for ARS 7.1 (Patch 1) with ITSM 7.0.2 (Patch
6) and CMDB 2.1 (Patch 1)

1. Humming Bird Search Engine. This is a part of the AR server download

2. AR Server 7.1 Patch 01, Remedy User, Remedy Admin, and JSDK (JDK
minimum of version 1.5.0.12).

3. Add all application and user licenses via the Remedy User Tool.

4. Take a database (db) backup then install Mid Tier 7.1

5. Take a db backup then install Flashboards 7.1

6. Take a db backup then install Approval Server 7.1 Perform a review of
the installation logs to verify 100% success

7. Take a db backup then install Assignment Engine 7.1 Perform a review
of the installation logs to verify 100% success

8. Enable Development Cache mode from the Admin Tool and restart AR Server
Service

9. Take a db backup then install E-mail Engine 7.1 Perform a review of
the installation logs to verify 100% success
For Windows environments please disable the E-mail Engine service for the
duration of the remaining installs to work around a known defect

10.Take a db backup then install CMDB 2.1 Patch 1 Perform a review
of the installation logs to verify 100% success

11.Take a db backup then install CMDB Help Files

12.Install CMDB Extension Loader (Select Web server IIS)
DO NOT set Admin only mode as the ITSM Guide states. This is a known defect

-navigate to the celsdk directory of the ITSM installation media (for
ex: Installs\ITSM\7.0\Service Desk\Incident

(CMDB structure) with ITSM attributes and classes.

*perform a review of the installation logs to verify 100% success.
These logs will be located under the local temp environment variable. An
example of this is C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local
Settings\Temp.

13.Take a db backup and Verify Dev Cache mode is still enabled

14.Incident Management 7.0.2. Install the First Commercial Shipment
(FCS) of the product first. The upgrade to Patch 6 will occur later. If you
are installing any other ITSM applications, do not select the DSL

Hi Lisa,

Most if this reply is for troubleshooting issue between difference db
servers. If not may it live long in the archives and be useful to somebody
down the road...

Are these databases on different servers? If so I think you have to link
the servers before you can create a view form (it's been a while since I
created a view form against a remote Oracle db). You said that the SQL
Developer was able to login and see the view with aradmin, was that on the
db server that the view resides on? If not make sure the view is accessible
from the Remedy db server using database tools before you getting into
troubleshooting the Remedy end. By the looks of the view name you supplied
it is not across servers or that is the problem, you are not telling the
Remedy db server what host/TNS name where to find the view. And of course
if they are on difference servers check firewalls, etc. Can you tnsping the
remove server from the Remedy db server.

arimportcmd error

2008-03-27 Thread Rick Cook
First, I can't believe that there are no Remedy KB entries for arimportcmd.
None. Wow.

We are attempting to use arimportcmd in an Active Link to import a small
number of records into a form. We have a mapping file that works just fine
in the Import Tool. When we attempt to run it from the Active Link or the
command line, using the same user/pw and mapping file, we get an error that
says that the Import command line is missing the schema option or has a
wrong format. There isn't even an arimportcmd parameter for the schema, so
I don't know what it's complaining about.

Any ideas to help us out? We verified the paths, file names, etc., and all
names match exactly, including case.

Rick

View Form not see a Key Field

2008-03-27 Thread Gary Dries
I am creating a couple of View forms to a SQL DB table from an Oracle DB
remedy system using a dblink. Via the DB Link I am able to connect to the
table and load all the fields but I do not see a column in the key field
drop down of the create view dialog.

In both tables the field I am wanting to use as the key is a 15 byte
varchar, Null not allowed, and it is not designated as a key in the SQL db.
On the first table the only column I see is a 4 byte int status field, and
on the second I do not see a column listed at all that table which only
contains varchars.

any ideas

Re: First Contact Resolution (FCR) ITIL & ITSM 7

2008-03-27 Thread Jason Miller
Our goal is 80% (was 75% until recently). Our HD has a lot of rights and
authority like Ty mentioned so they have a pretty high percentage. We do
not have the 1 hour rule like I have seen at other places. They have the
ability at any time to take the ticket back from the group it was escalated
to and turn it into an FCR in their name.

Also we have workflow in place that helps them track their FCRs. Such as if
they update the work log of a ticket, an FCR ticket is created and
automatically and resolved (there has been debate over validity/abuse of
this one in the past). We also put in place quick tickets where they can
select a canned subject (like transferred call, wrong number, walk up, info
given) that will automatically fill in the Description, CTI, assign it to
them self and resolve the ticket. We also have some of the support groups
using the quick tickets to track their volume of customer contacts.

Thanks, Joe. It will take the long format as long as the string is in
quotes - it worked for me yesterday. I'll keep that suggestion in my back
pocket, though, in case nothing else works.

Your response was much more helpful than the initial one from Support, which
was basically some script monkey in India saying RTFM. Gee, I hadn't

Could you let us know what the import command that you typed looks like? If
its complaining about the command, maybe there must be something in there
that is offending its syntax?

I've got feed like that from support ranging from have you read the manual
to you should go for training when I was working on the RKM product.. Almost
every other ticket I raised on RKM ended up being a software bug. So I'm
hardly likely to consider spending $$$'s for training myself on something
that is flaky in the first place! To add to that the documentation on that
product is far from 100% accurate.. Even the screen shots on some places are
inconsistent to what you actually see when you install the product (Version
7.1 patch 1 of RKM)..

long path format if you have it set like that..

** First, I can't believe that there are no Remedy KB entries for
arimportcmd. None. Wow.

We are attempting to use arimportcmd in an Active Link to import a
small number of records into a form. We have a mapping file that works just
fine in the Import Tool. When we attempt to run it from the Active Link or
the command line, using the same user/pw and mapping file, we get an error
that says that the Import command line is missing the schema option or has a
wrong format. There isn't even an arimportcmd parameter for the schema, so
I don't know what it's complaining about.

Any ideas to help us out? We verified the paths, file names, etc.,
and all names match exactly, including case.

Need help with EMail Attachments...

2008-03-27 Thread Payne, George
ENV:

ARS 7.0.01 P05

AIX 5.3

ITSM 7.0.01 P05

ORACLE 10g also on AIX

Ok...this is kind of the turn around to all the problems that we used to
have trying to send attachments successfully with previous versions of
the ARS!

We chose to disable the Notification Engine configurations for Incident
Management in favor of a nice set of NOTIFY FILTERS that use a set of
email TEMPLATES.

The trouble is, the Notification Engine Filters are still pushing the
WorkLog attachments into the AR System Email Association even when I
don't want them to!

I've tried leaving the Attachment out of the list of fields that are
being sent. I've tried setting the Attachment field to not be PUBLIC so
that it shouldn't be sent with email. The Attachment field is NOT a
part of the email template.

Here's the truly whacky thing about it to mein the Incident
Management system, they've gone to a lot of trouble to allow us to mark
a WorkLog entry was PUBLIC or INTERNAL and the default is "Internal"...

So why does it insist on popping out the ATTACHMENT with the email???
If it's supposed to be "Internal" it shouldn't go out on the email to
the customer.

Has anyone run into anything like this? I'd rather not send out any
attachments (at this point in time) than take the chance that I'll send
the wrong thing to someone...

Thanks in advance,
Gp

Hi Rick
i maybe barking up the wrong tree altogether, but I have got a suspicion that
your arimportcmd and the version of ARS are not the same.
have you tried being in the directory that arimport.exe resides in and
running the command? so go to the c:program files\arsystem\admin directory
and try running the command from a DOS box, does that work properly? is so
then there is a problem with your mapping file, try the command without a
mapping file, you will need an arx or xml file for that, but it will at least
tell you if there is a problem with the command itself or the format.
let me know if you can
generally if you have the command and associated files and the mapping file
with the import file in the same directory and you run the import command
from there, it should work

Could you let us know what the import command that you typed looks like?
If its complaining about the command, maybe there must be something in there
that is offending its syntax?

I've got feed like that from support ranging from have you read the manual
to you should go for training when I was working on the RKM product.. Almost
every other ticket I raised on RKM ended up being a software bug. So I'm hardly
likely to consider spending $$$'s for training myself on something that is
flaky in the first place! To add to that the documentation on that product is
far from 100% accurate.. Even the screen shots on some places are inconsistent
to what you actually see when you install the product (Version 7.1 patch 1 of
RKM)..

** Thanks, Joe. It will take the long format as long as the string is in
quotes - it worked for me yesterday. I'll keep that suggestion in my back
pocket, though, in case nothing else works.

Your response was much more helpful than the initial one from Support, which
was basically some script monkey in India saying RTFM. Gee, I hadn't thought
of that. If there was any troubleshooting data in the docs or the KB, I
wouldn't have needed to make a ticket. sigh...

Try putting a 8.3 format DOS path in the path instead of the regular
windows path.. If all else as you say is correct, it may be not liking the long
path format if you have it set like that..

** First, I can't believe that there are no Remedy KB entries for
arimportcmd. None. Wow.

We are attempting to use arimportcmd in an Active Link to import a small number
of records into a form. We have a mapping file that works just fine in the
Import Tool. When we attempt to run it from the Active Link or the command
line, using the same user/pw and mapping file, we get an error that says that
the Import command line is missing the schema option or has a wrong format.
There isn't even an arimp

Subject: Question: SYS:Notification Messages - Missing ?

I have two Notifications - the Notification Message Tags are:

CHG-APR-GroupApprovalOLAResolutionEscalation
CHG-APR-IndividualApprovalOLAResolutionEscalation

I have exported ALL Filters and I am unable to reference any Filter to
these two Notifications.

Do these even exist?

Thanks!
