Re: 7.0.1 WUT Against 7.1.0 Server?

2008-06-18 Thread Kurniadi
I've just upgraded my WUT to 7.1 patch 3 to access ARS 7.1 patch 2.
I get a problem on Status History, the status history list will be
displayed only for the first call. The next reload, it will show only
blank form.

Does it happen on your Remedy client too?

The DSL forms are installed as part of the other ITSM apps, there is no
separate installation.

The data, however, needs to be loaded. This can be done during an ITSM app
installation (one of the options is to install DSL data).

If you look at the Remedy patch download page on the BMC site you can find
DSL data patches there.

Unable to retrieve data from a form

2008-06-18 Thread Ankur Gulati
Hi Listers,

We have a form which has 5 BLOB fields. There are around 67000 records
and it takes around 3-4 hrs to search for a single record. I search on
the request_id. We do have couple of other indexes in place apart on
Request ID field.

The actual workflow is that an AL does a push field and creates a new
record in a form and then second Set field is fired in same AL which
opens this new record in modify window. So this is where it fails to
open this new record and even if I open the form and search for any
record it takes forever to show up and usually it freezes.

I have rebuild the indexes but no improvement. On another form without
no BLOB data and 100+ fields, it takes less than a sec to search a
record.

Logs doesn't show anything. AL, SQL and filter log just shows the
perfect creation of new record and then on Display it does show the
opening of the form in SET Operation.

What all should I check?

CI Relationship Viewer Error

2008-06-18 Thread AR_User
Hi All,

Whenever I try to see the CI relationship viewer I get the following error:

"CMDB libraries are not available. Please install the CI Relationship Viewer
on the Mid Tier server."

But the fact it is installed properly and all the APIs (cmdbapi20.dll,
cmdbapi20.jar, cmdbjni20.jar) are already in the WEB-INF/lib directory.

I am on ARS 7.0, CMDB 2.0.1, Mid-Tier 7.0.01 and Apache Tomcat 5.5...

Is anything there that I am missing? Please update me...

Thanks in advance...

Re: move of the mail server ... what needs to be changed for the email engine?

2008-06-18 Thread Remedy Maniac

ho yes, of course.
I am sorry I ddin't mention.
We are using MBOX on Unix.
We have procmail reading /var/mail/email_engine which is actually an
alias for mailhost:/var/mail
On emails, procmail copies the files onto a directory where the email
engine picks them up.
So I thought that just by changing the DNS entry of the mailhost, it
should do.

As far as the outbound is concerned, it is set at the moment to smtphost.
So I believe the same logic will apply.

Any comments on this is welcomed.

Thank you
Serouche

Ankur,

Try turning off the table refreshes on open and see if it
still takes a long time. If it's the tables, then you need to look at your
table qualifications and try to slim the results down or chunk them. And
what I would do if it is the blobs that's causing your problem is move them
off to another table with an ID field to reference them. But, I'm
relatively new to this game, so I'm sure there are other, better ways.

If you can make it to Charleston SC, you have got to check out Melvins

by Emiril Lagasse on the Food Network website. Also a newer kid on the

I had paid for it. I think it tasted good, though - I couldn't even

On a side note, we kicked around taking a tour of the ballparks around

You need to look at what the table field(s) are doing on that form. My guess
is that they are pulling every record from the underlying table which is why
it takes so long and often hangs.

Top 10 Reasons to Attend BMC User World

2008-06-18 Thread Benjamin Trimmer
If you were tasked to make a top 10 list - what would some of your reasons
be?

Some of mine would be:

Learn new useful tips
Learn things I could put into place right away
Learn more best practices for use of the software
Find out where BMC is heading with their software

What about you?

Also remember if you are on 7.1, that the licenses are now keept on the
database and check the CAI application Registry form to make sure its

What table do you have on the form? It still sounds like an index
problem (Either you are missing an index on the B table or your
selection query for your table on the form is not using an index).

Since you are on Oracle I have a script you can use to verify if all
tables have their primary (Remedy defined), and User defined indexes.

Hi Listers,

We have a form which has 5 BLOB fields. There are around 67000
records and it takes around 3-4 hrs to search for a single record. I
search on the request_id. We do have couple of other indexes in place
apart on Request ID field.

The actual workflow is that an AL does a push field and creates
a new record in a form and then second Set field is fired in same AL
which opens this new record in modify window. So this is where it fails
to open this new record and even if I open the form and search for any
record it takes forever to show up and usually it freezes.

I have rebuild the indexes but no improvement. On another form
without no BLOB data and 100+ fields, it takes less than a sec to search
a record.

Logs doesn't show anything. AL, SQL and filter log just shows
the perfect creation of new record and then on Display it does show the
opening of the form in SET Operation.

What all should I check?

Re: Top 10 Reasons to Attend BMC User World

2008-06-18 Thread Pierson, Shawn
Here are a few more:

* Talk to vendors that have other software and services that may
be useful for your implementation.

* See demos of new products.

* Get answers to technical questions from other Remedy
developers/administrators and the engineers from BMC.

* See how other companies are using the products and get ideas
that I can apply at my company.

* Take shortened classes to learn more, rather than spending an
entire week on just one topic.

* Get ITIL certified (if you aren't already, although you can
probably do that cheaper at another place locally like I did.)

I'm sure you can come up with more, but if you're trying to justify
going there to your boss you have to look at it from a financial
perspective. Perhaps there's a big project that would be saved money
because you would be able to implement it faster by attending the
conference? Perhaps there is some software you have a project to build,
but can discover a cheaper out of the box solution from a third party
vendor you wouldn't otherwise know about if you weren't at the
conference? Or, if you are generally unhappy with the job and attending
the conference would make you more likely to keep working there, let
them know that. With the retirement of the baby boomers starting, a lot
of employers are freaking out over employee retention and will make sure
to do things like this to keep you around.

Good luck,

Shawn Pierson

Seriously
1. Putting faces with names (It's nice to meet ARSLIST people in person)
2. Learn from other people (Birds of a Feather sessions need to be
beefed up a little)
3. Hear BMC\Remedy direction
4. Do face to face with the products designer and learn why they
approached it the way they did. It's nice to talk to Doug Mueller
one-on-one.
5. Attend sessions that you think your company will be getting into in
the future.
6. I always come away with several new ideas from everyone I meet.
7. Short courses are nice, but I think I have attended most of the

Re: OT: BBQ tour

2008-06-18 Thread Joe Castleman
I gather that (Non-Memphis) Tennessee BBQ (i.e. pulled pork, vinegar-based
sauce) is similar to Carolina BBQ, but I've never been to the Carolinas.

If you are in or around Nashville, Whitt's has several locations. East of
Nashville, there are several Burr's restaurants, I've visited this one:

Burrs Old Fashioned BBQ (615) 758-5499 2736 E Division St, Mt Juliet, TN

http://local.yahoo.com/details?id=24505887

&lsrc=results&p=Barbecue+Restaurants&csz=Lebanon%2C+TN

I think there are one or two other Burr's.

In Austin, TX, Phil already mentioned the places in nearby Lockhart, but in
Austin itself I always liked the following:

Sam's Barbecue

http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Guides/Location?oid=oid:45854

Ruby's (a bit non-traditional, but very good: I loved the chopped beef)

http://rubysbbq.com/

Stubb's in downtown Austin isn't the best, but I am obligated to mention it,
because the waitress called me "honey" and always gave me free cobbler or
banana pudding every time. (Now we have Stubb's sauces way up here near
D.C.)

** My son just graduated from HS, and will leave for the Marines in October.
Sometime between now and then, he and I are going to drive cross-country on
a BBQ tour. We'll start and end in Seattle, but we intend to hit all of the
areas of the country famous for BBQ: Texas, Louisiana, the rest of the
South, North Carolina, Memphis, Chicago, and Kansas City.

We're still planning the specifics, and here's where all y'all come in:

I would love to know THE places to go in your part of the country (assuming
it's one I mentioned above - this will be almost entirely SOUTH of the
Mason-Dixon line) for outstanding BBQ, whether they're famous or a
hole-in-the-wall. We'll stay away from big chains for the most part (we
have Famous Dave's up here), unless it is a local/regional one with a good
local reputation.

Thanks in advance for sharing!

In our case, we have a mix of 7.0.1 patch 6 and 7.1 patch 3 user tools against
a 7.1 patch 3 QA server, with ITSM 7. I am doing some more testing before
upgrading the production server to 7.1 patch 3 and asking the users to upgrade

users that have the user tool, most use the mid-tier, so upgrading these users

How can I use SQL to provide a list of all Data Fields

2008-06-18 Thread Gavin Coleman
Hi List - I'm trying to write a query builder tool for users to build
their own complex queries and save multiple queries. As part of this, I
would like to provide the user with a list of all data fields on a form.
(I.e. Excluding trim fields, table, column, display only fields). I've had
a look around the database system and believe it should be possible to use
a SQL menu to provide this.

Does anybody have a query that would provide what I'm looking for? I've
looked at the Database table - FIELD and the other related FIELD_ tables,
but can't find the marker that would tell you whether or not it's a data
field.

Any help appreciated! If it's not possible, then I can always use a Data
Dictionary menu, but this also includes Display Only fields.

Thanks,

SQL to find missing records

2008-06-18 Thread Eric Cleereman (IT)
Hi All,

I have a form containing sequential Case IDs as follows:
HD1
...
HD00100

When I run an SQL count on this, it only returns a count of 999,997
results:
SELECT COUNT(CASE_ID) FROM BGI_SDHP_Modify

97

I have an export with all 1,000,000 records, prior to 3 of them going
missing. I'd like to find which 3 records are missing, so I can
reimport just those 3.

Does anyone have an SQL statement which would return the Case IDs of the
3 missing records?

ARServer is 6.3, Patch 21 on AIX 5.2. The database is Oracle 9i as a
local database.

Fred - thanks for the quick response! That's perfect - I realised just

just wanted to make sure.

I keep forgetting to check the ar.h files. There's a ton of useful

9280 - Server not present in configured servers list

2008-06-18 Thread William Rentfrow
I know a bunch of people have gotten this error already for a known bug
with qualifications/URLs. This is not that issue.

We have a new server on a development domain. The domain has no DNS and
is pretty restricted in usage.

The server/mid-tier is accessible by IP only and the default web path is
set in the format http://100.100.100.100/arsys

When I try to open flashboards I get the 9280 "Server XYZ is not found
in the configured servers list".

This is actually correct - that server name is NOT in the configured
server listthe thing is - the name it is giving for XYZ is not
configured anywhere!

If I put that server name into the Mid-tier config I of course can not
route to it because there is no server with that name - but the error
message does change. So for some reason it is expecting to see that
server name and I have no idea where it is getting it.

Does anyone know where/how the flashboards display finds the server name
it is expecting to connect to in IM 7.03?

Re: SQL to find missing records

2008-06-18 Thread Thomas Bean
If you are just querying the BGI_SDHP_Modify view, I don't think you can
query for case IDs that don't exist in the source table. You would have to
cross-reference the view with your export, since that is where the missing
case IDs would exist.

However, if you simply set your 'Duplicate Request ID' handling preferences
in the Import tool to "Reject Duplicate Records", you should be able to
import the missing entries from the full export file. Any entries that
already exist should not be affected.

Try something like the following (This is off the top of my head)

declare
  intLoopVar integer;
begin
  for intLoopVar from 1..100
  loop
Select intLoopVar from dual where (Select CASE_ID from
BGI_SDHP_Modify where CASE_ID =  'HD' || LPAD(intLoopVar,13,'0') ) IS
NULL;
  END LOOP;
end;

Re: Changing Server Names

2008-06-18 Thread Shellman, David
Ben,

You have to be aware of all the places that ServerAAA is used. Desktop
clients and any hard coded url's that you may have.

If you are making the change, it is best to make ServerBBB an DNS alias
that points to the real server name. This will save you a lot of time
and grief the next time you need to change the server name. Also works
great for fail over (hot standby).

Re: On-Call notification/assignment config question

2008-06-18 Thread Rabi Tripathi
On-Call feature delivers a lot less than meets the eye
or I should say suggests the name.

On-Call feature is about who in a group is paged when
a ticket is assigned to the group, but to no
individual (assigned person is blank). That's it.
Nothing more. Even when doing this much, there are
caveats and weirdest bugs as of the last time I
checked.

Picking a person within a group for assignment, based
on the on-call info for the group...well, that would
be where your customization expertise comes handy.

In other words, OOB, there is no connection between
picking assigned person and the on-call feature.
On-call feature only does exactly what I stated above.

Lesson I learned after a long analysis: don't
extrapolate and imagine that it does what you or
anybody else would have the feature do, if you were
building it, or what the name implies.

Regards.

Question: ITSM 7 - Process Flow Bar - Disabled Items

2008-06-18 Thread T. Dee
I'm trying to set some of the items from the Process Flow Bar for the
Status of Pending to "Offline".

So I opened "VIS:ProcessFlowStructureSetup" (Process Flow Structure
Setup) and searched for Form = HPD:Help Desk. In the 3rd table
located at the bottom I found the accelerator item 'Support Contact
Hold' for the Stage of 'Investigate and Diagnosis' - I clicked the
VIEW button and from the Accelerator Item dialog window I changed the
status to Offline and hit the SAVE button. However, I received the
following error:

This record already exists. Please verify or reselect your field
entries and try again (ARERR 4).

Can anyone shed some light on this? Am I doing something wrong?

THANKS!!!

Re: 9280 - Server not present in configured servers list

2008-06-18 Thread BMax
If this is "limited" domain you can always use hosts file
(C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc).
Put computername (server name) and it's ip there

Also you should configure midtier with correct settings(servername you've
saved in hosts file) on General settings page.

Re: 9280 - Server not present in configured servers list

2008-06-18 Thread Guillaume Rheault
the "arp -a" command gives you the hostname of that server responding to that
IP Address, you can use a network sniffer to see who is replying that.

This problem could be as easy as a sys admin having made a type in a hosts
file, entering that IP address in question instead of the right one, or even a
possible NIS, NIS+ or DNS (or WINS or any other method) misconfiguration in the
name resolution system.

Subject: 9280 - Server not present in configured servers list

HD00100

When I run an SQL count on this, it only returns a count of 999,997
results:
SELECT COUNT(CASE_ID) FROM BGI_SDHP_Modify

I have an export with all 1,000,000 records, prior to 3 of them going

Does anyone have an SQL statement which would return the Case IDs of the

Re: 9280 - Server not present in configured servers list

2008-06-18 Thread William Rentfrow
Yes - checked all that.

I am still not sure where it is getting the wrong server name from.
We've found a workaround to the issue by just making a new hosts entry,
etc. But as far as I can tell the server name came out of nowhere -
it's not specified in any of the conf files or mid-tier config (or the
default web path).

How to integrate Remedy with JD Edwards

2008-06-18 Thread Sokol, Brian
We have a purchasing system developed in Remedy. I want to create a two
way integration between Remedy and JD Edwards which is our finance
system. I believe Edwards is in DB2. We want our end users to use Remedy
as the front end to create a Purchase Request. Once it has routed
through the proper approvals it is sent to our purchasing dept. They now
click on a link that opens a Help Desk ticket for the installation of
the product. I want that link to also push the line item and purchaser
info into Edwards. Edwards will create a Purchase Request and send the
PR number back to Remedy. Has anyone done this before or can you steer
me in the right direction?

Thanks

We have a form which has 5 BLOB fields. There
are around 67000 records and it takes around 3-4 hrs to search for a
single record. I search on the request_id. We do have couple of other
indexes in place apart on Request ID field.

The actual workflow is that an AL does a push
field and creates a new record in a form and then second Set field is
fired in same AL which opens this new record in modify window. So this
is where it fails to open this new record and even if I open the form
and search for any record it takes forever to show up and usually it
freezes.

I have rebuild the indexes but no improvement.
On another form without no BLOB data and 100+ fields, it takes less than
a sec to search a record.

Logs doesn't show anything. AL, SQL and filter
log just shows the perfect creation of new record and then on Display it
does show the opening of the form in SET Operation.

Stop SLM Emails on Dev?

2008-06-18 Thread Phil Murnane
Folks:
When we clone a production server running SLM 7.1.0 patch 1 to our dev server,
we go through a process where we disable the Email Engine, change all user
records' Default Notify Mechanism to Alert, and delete any pending AR System
Email Messages.  All ITSM emails stop being generated except for some SLM
notification.
Any suggestions about what we can do to stop all the SLM notifications?
Thanks,

Overview Console Missing Incidents/Tasks

2008-06-18 Thread Jase Brandon
Hello All,
Has anyone experincied the below:
ARS 7.1 Patch 002

Incidents created are displayed in the Incident Managment Console, but are
NOT displayed in the Overview Console.
I have checked all settings regarding 'Application Preferences' and 'Console
View' and we have no customizations on the Overview Console.
After we installed 7.1 Patch 002, this problem occured immediately after.
I am getting endless requests for log files after several meetings of
demonstrating the problem.
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem.

Thanks,

Jase

Re: SQL to find missing records

2008-06-18 Thread Thomas Bean

Here's an MS-SQL equivalent for anyone who's interested...

declare @intLoopVar as int;
declare @caseid as varchar(15);
set @intLoopVar = 1;
while @intLoopVar <= 100
begin
 set @caseid = (select 'HD' + REPLICATE('0',(13 - LEN(CAST(@intLoopVar AS
VARCHAR(13) + CAST(@intLoopVar AS VARCHAR(13)));

 if not exists (select * from BGI_SDHP_Modify where case_id = @caseid)
print @caseid;
 set @intLoopVar = @intLoopVar + 1;
end

Try something like the following (This is off the top of my head)

declare
 intLoopVar integer;
begin
 for intLoopVar from 1..100
 loop
Select intLoopVar from dual where (Select CASE_ID from
BGI_SDHP_Modify where CASE_ID =  'HD' || LPAD(intLoopVar,13,'0') ) IS
NULL;
 END LOOP;
end;

Hi All,

I have a form containing sequential Case IDs as follows:
   HD1
   ...
   HD00100

When I run an SQL count on this, it only returns a count of 999,997
results:
   SELECT COUNT(CASE_ID) FROM BGI_SDHP_Modify

   97

I have an export with all 1,000,000 records, prior to 3 of them going
missing. I'd like to find which 3 records are missing, so I can
reimport just those 3.

Does anyone have an SQL statement which would return the Case IDs of the
3 missing records?

ARServer is 6.3, Patch 21 on AIX 5.2. The database is Oracle 9i as a
local database.

Christopher:
Thanks for the reply.  That does work, but part of our customer's requirement
is to do acceptance testing on the new version SLM, so we can't leave all the
Service Targets disabled.  I'm guessing SLM somehow caches the user's Default
Notify Mechanism in the records of some form, and this cache is not getting
updated when we make the changes to the User records -- I just don't know where
to look for this data.
Thanks Again,

LIKE qualifications in 7.0

2008-06-18 Thread McManus Michael A SSgt HQ 754 ELSG/DOMH
We're in the process of upgrading our AR System Server and Clients from version
5.1.2 to 7.0.01 and I've run into a bit of a problem. I was asked to upgrade
my User and Admin tools to 7.0.01 on my PC for testing purposes, and to draft
an implementation plan. Our server is still 5.1.2 but I was under the
impression that the WUT is backwards compatible and I generally do very little
day-to-day work in the WUT anyway.

Anyhow, I upgraded with no problems and was able to login with no problems. I
did a cursory examination of some workflow and everything seemed okay. This
morning, I got a request to change the Group of a user. I went to the USER
form, made the required changes, and clicked a button to Add them as a System
POC and received an error:

"Before attempting to add a System POC, their Group List must be set to System
POC or System POC Manager. (ARERR 75001)

The preceding message occurred during the execution of active link USER:Add A
New POC -- action 1. (ARNOTE 1101)"

The first line is the Message action in the Else action of the above Active
Link. The problem is, I did in fact change the Group List of the user to
System POC. I went to the Admin tool and checked the Run If qualification for
that Active Link:

( 'Group_List' LIKE (( "%" + "System" ) + "%" )) OR ( 'Group_List' LIKE ((
"%" + "Admin" ) + "%" ))

Just to make sure I hadn't screwed up somewhere along the line, I had one of my
coworkers attempt the change on his 5.1.2 WUT and it worked perfectly. To make
sure it wasn't a backwards compatibility problem, I tested the workflow on our
7.0.01 dev server and received the same error.

I looked through the Release Notes as well as the "What's new in 7.0.01" docs
and didn't see any issues about LIKE qualifications being interpreted
differently in 7.0.01 versus 5.1.2 and I checked the patch notes for 7.0.01
just to see if it was a possible bug. No luck.

I asked an old coworker of mine who now works on a 7.1 server if he'd
experienced anything like this, and he mentioned that I could change "%" +
"System" + "%" to "%System%"

That's all well and good, but this is only one active link in a fairly large
beast of an application. Did something change in the way the WUT interprets
LIKE qualifications?

Thanks much,

Sometimes the CI viewer doesn't automatically install. The installer files
are loaded onto your server, though, so you can find them and run it
manually. Pay attention to the installation order when doing this.

Once issue I have seen - We have 7.1 Server and 7.0 WUT.
The password managment functionality will not work unless you upgrade the

I am currently waiting to do an SMS push of 7.1 to all users so the Password

SRM Integration install

2008-06-18 Thread Drew Shuller

Hello all.

I just did a clean install of SRM 2.2 and the SRM Integrations to Change,
SLM, and Incident, with the sample data. Can someone tell me what to look
for in ITSM to see that sample data?

Before the integration and sample data install, my SRM Request Entry
console at least had a few Additional selections for the categories found
there, even though they didn't do anything. But now, after the integration
install, the additional selections are no longer there. Have I gone
backwards?

Re: Stop SLM Emails on Dev?

2008-06-18 Thread Viswanathan Balakumar
Phil,

You can also change the field "Remedy Notification Method" to "None" for the
appropriate Notification events (like "SLA Resolution Escalation" for the
Notification Type as "System Default" ) in the "NTE:CFG-Notification Events"
form.

I have not tried "None" option but I have tried changing it to "Alert" \
"Email" and that works fine, so this way you can turn of ONLY the
notification for that Notification Event, I believe.

Thanks,
VB

Re: Walking table, reading and setting hi-liting rows

2008-06-18 Thread Dwayne Martin
Thank you, Frederick, Andrew and Frank, for your replies. I got waylaid and
hope we haven’t lost our train of thot.

What I am trying to do is:
1. Let the user hi-lite some rows in a table. When the entry is saved, write a
list of hi-lited rows into a field, which is saved with the record.

2. When the record is displayed, read the field and use the value in the field
to hi-lite the same rows that were selected in the previous session.

The first step turned out to ridiculously simple. All I had to do is have an
Active Link call a guide that does a table loop and “Table Loop Selected Rows
Only,” and it creates a neat little list of hi-lited rows.

I think Step 2 is impossible. As Frederick has pointed out “you [can] not set
the highlite on multiple rows thru workflow,” The “Workflow Objects” 7.1
manual, p223 shows how to select a row by setting the value of the table field
to the desired row number. But it says nothing about selecting multiple rows
(ie simulating a cntrl-click).

It also appears that you can’t even read a table on Display. My storage field
keeps a list based on an “Entry ID col” field in the table. I set up an Active
Link to set the table to 0 on Display (un-hilite the first row), then call a
guide that walks the table, and if the field where I was storing the values is
“LIKE “%” + $Entry ID col$ + “%”", display a message with the value in the
“Entry ID col”. The message displayed for every row, whether the values
matched or not, but the “Entry ID col” value was null. The table didn’t fill
till the messages stopped displaying, and when it did, the first row was
hi-lited. It appears that the “Display” Active Links fire before the tables
are filled, so you really can’t get any info from a table when a record is
displayed.

I am used to telling my customers that “Remedy can do anything!” But it looks
like I have hit a dead end this time. Could someone please prove me wrong.

Dwayne Martin

Re: Stop SLM Emails on Dev?

2008-06-18 Thread David Sanders

You could add a filter to your AR System Email Messages form to set the
'Send Message' field on Submit to "No" for all records where the 'Message
Type' is "Outgoing".

This will stop the messages being sent out, but the records will still be
present in the messages form so you can check what notifications were
generated.

Alternatively, use a filter On Submit to change the To address to a test
mailbox (and perhaps append the original To value to the message body so you
know who it would have been sent to). You can then monitor the Test mailbox
to see what messages were generated without spamming your users.

Thanks for the reply.  That does work, but part of our customer's
requirement is to do acceptance testing on the new version SLM, so we can't
leave all the Service Targets disabled.  I'm guessing SLM somehow caches the
user's Default Notify Mechanism in the records of some form, and this cache
is not getting updated when we make the changes to the User records -- I
just don't know where to look for this data.
Thanks Again,

Re: On-Call notification/assignment config question

2008-06-18 Thread David Sanders
The On Call notifications feature in ESS controls who notifications are sent
to for support team notifications outside normal business hours.

First, each support Team can be associated with Business Time records to
define their normal operational hours. If the application generates a
notification to Team members in working hours, it is processed normally. If
it is outside normal working hours the notification is only sent to people
in an On Call role, by email, pager, voice notification, or whatever
mechanism is defined for that notification/person.

Isn't that how ITSM7 is meant to work??

Regards.

Hi Jase,

There are two places where I would check to make sure this is not a
"preference/data configuration" issue.

- In the overview console, on the blue link bar, click on "Select Status

- in the overview console, in the blue link bar, make sure the user selects

Incidents created are displayed in the Incident Managment Console, but are

I am getting endless requests for log files after several meetings of

I still see the RegularView.xml and Dialogview.xml files on my hard
drive that they used - but I do not know if they are there from a
previous version of the admin too or not.

This is Admin 7.1

Re: 9280 - Server not present in configured servers list

2008-06-18 Thread Guillaume Rheault
Let me reword this better, since I typed the reply pretty fast and by reading
it it is not very clear.

the "arp -a" command will display the current resolution table between IP
addresses and MAC addresses. Based on the MAC address, you can figure out the
host that responded to the arp request.
In that host, look at the hosts file and any naming resolution method in use
that could point to a misconfiguration.

the "arp -a" command gives you the hostname of that server responding to that
IP Address, you can use a network sniffer to see who is replying that.

What happens if you run your qualification in the Advanced Query bar on

Subject: LIKE qualifications in 7.0

We're in the process of upgrading our AR System Server and Clients from
version 5.1.2 to 7.0.01 and I've run into a bit of a problem. I was
asked to upgrade my User and Admin tools to 7.0.01 on my PC for testing
purposes, and to draft an implementation plan. Our server is still
5.1.2 but I was under the impression that the WUT is backwards
compatible and I generally do very little day-to-day work in the WUT
anyway.

Anyhow, I upgraded with no problems and was able to login with no
problems. I did a cursory examination of some workflow and everything
seemed okay. This morning, I got a request to change the Group of a
user. I went to the USER form, made the required changes, and clicked a
button to Add them as a System POC and received an error:

"Before attempting to add a System POC, their Group List must be set to
System POC or System POC Manager. (ARERR 75001)

The preceding message occurred during the execution of active link
USER:Add A New POC -- action 1. (ARNOTE 1101)"

The first line is the Message action in the Else action of the above
Active Link. The problem is, I did in fact change the Group List of the
user to System POC. I went to the Admin tool and checked the Run If
qualification for that Active Link:

( 'Group_List' LIKE (( "%" + "System" ) + "%" )) OR ( 'Group_List'
LIKE (( "%" + "Admin" ) + "%" ))

Just to make sure I hadn't screwed up somewhere along the line, I had
one of my coworkers attempt the change on his 5.1.2 WUT and it worked
perfectly. To make sure it wasn't a backwards compatibility problem, I
tested the workflow on our 7.0.01 dev server and received the same
error.

I looked through the Release Notes as well as the "What's new in 7.0.01"
docs and didn't see any issues about LIKE qualifications being
interpreted differently in 7.0.01 versus 5.1.2 and I checked the patch
notes for 7.0.01 just to see if it was a possible bug. No luck.

I asked an old coworker of mine who now works on a 7.1 server if he'd
experienced anything like this, and he mentioned that I could change "%"
+ "System" + "%" to "%System%"

That's all well and good, but this is only one active link in a fairly
large beast of an application. Did something change in the way the WUT
interprets LIKE qualifications?

Thanks much,

Re: Stop SLM Emails on Dev?

2008-06-18 Thread Jason Miller
Hi David,

Do you have it working where setting the Send field to No suppresses the
email from being sent? I have tried over the years with various versions to
do this but the filter doesn't seem to take effect. The Send field is
always set to Yes any ways. I figured the email engine was setting it to
Yes after my filter was firing.

My workaround has been to create a filter has a set fields action that adds
the contents of the To: field to the end of the subject (so I can see who it
should have went to) and another set fields action to chance the To: to my
email address. You can take this a step further and add a flag field
somewhere (I used the User form, never had a problem with upgrades/patches)
that you can set for people that you expect to be testing and allow the
email to go to that address.

You probably wouldn't want to send all of the emails to yourself if it is a
really busy email engine. One advantage of sending all of the emails to
myself is that I find email actions that I never knew about and can see when
people that I didn't expect to be testing are testing.

I liked that feature too...
The replacement of that feature is a combination of both these features:

Layout -> Size Fields -> Label
Layout -> Size Fields -> Value

And the Layout -> Space Fields ... (with the 4 combinations under it)

Once you get used to these new features, which are very powerful, I
think you'll be able to do anything that you did with the previous auto
layout feature (and more)...

Re: Overview Console Missing Incidents/Tasks

2008-06-18 Thread Jase Brandon
Hi Guillaume,
Thanks, I have done all the checks on "Select Status Values" and "Console
View" and it should be working.
but when I create an Incident, no new incidents display since the upgrade to
7.1 patch 002.
I hope this is a defect as I am perplexed. :)
Waiting on BMC to confirm, I just sent them a plethora of log files.

Thanks,

Jase

Re: Walking table, reading and setting hi-liting rows

2008-06-18 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Like I said I could not highlite multiple rows thru workflow.

My solution was to do the following:
Add a Display Only field on the form (I used a 3 character field)
Add this Display Only field as a column in the table (Yes you can add
Display only fields from the form that holds the table as columns in the
table). I called my column "Selected"
In your Display workflow do the following
  Refresh the table
  walk the table
while walking the table
if 'your storage field' like "%" + 'Entry ID col' + "%"
then set the display only field to "Yes" and set the column to
"Yes"
else clear the display only field

I also changed it so that users double click on a row instead of
multiple selecting and that set's the Selected column to "Yes" for that
row (If Col = "Yes" clear the col and the Display Only else set both.

Subject: Re: Walking table, reading and setting hi-liting rows

Thank you, Frederick, Andrew and Frank, for your replies. I got waylaid
and hope we haven't lost our train of thot.

What I am trying to do is:
1. Let the user hi-lite some rows in a table. When the entry is saved,
write a list of hi-lited rows into a field, which is saved with the
record.

2. When the record is displayed, read the field and use the value in the
field to hi-lite the same rows that were selected in the previous
session.

The first step turned out to ridiculously simple. All I had to do is
have an Active Link call a guide that does a table loop and "Table Loop
Selected Rows Only," and it creates a neat little list of hi-lited rows.

I think Step 2 is impossible. As Frederick has pointed out "you [can]
not set the highlite on multiple rows thru workflow," The "Workflow
Objects" 7.1 manual, p223 shows how to select a row by setting the value
of the table field to the desired row number. But it says nothing about
selecting multiple rows (ie simulating a cntrl-click).

It also appears that you can't even read a table on Display. My storage
field keeps a list based on an "Entry ID col" field in the table. I set
up an Active Link to set the table to 0 on Display (un-hilite the first
row), then call a guide that walks the table, and if the field where I
was storing the values is "LIKE "%" + $Entry ID col$ + "%"", display a
message with the value in the "Entry ID col". The message displayed for
every row, whether the values matched or not, but the "Entry ID col"
value was null. The table didn't fill till the messages stopped
displaying, and when it did, the first row was hi-lited. It appears
that the "Display" Active Links fire before the tables are filled, so
you really can't get any info from a table when a record is displayed.

I am used to telling my customers that "Remedy can do anything!" But it
looks like I have hit a dead end this time. Could someone please prove
me wrong.

2008-06-18 Thread Thad K Esser
Dwayne,

Your original post said you are on version 7.1. I haven't played with it
much, but page 368 of the Form and Application Objects manual says you can
change the colors of rows in tables based on selection fields. If you
combined that with Fred's suggestion below, you could set the foreground
color to white and the background color to black when the status was
"Yes". It wouldn't truly be a selected row, but it would look that way to
the user. I don't know how well that would play out in practice for what
you are doing, but its crazy enough that it just might work.

Re: LIKE qualifications in 7.0

2008-06-18 Thread Thomas Bean
Michael,
I don't think this has anything to do with the way LIKE qualifications are
handled between version 5.1.2 and 7.0.1.

Even if you change "%" + "System" + "%" to "%System%", the issue is most likely
related to the fact that the 'Group List' field does not actually store
explicit group names -- it actually stores a semicolon-delimited list of Group
IDs.

I tried a similar search on my User form, using the Advanced Search bar with a
LIKE qualification:

  'Group List' LIKE "%Administrator%"

This returned NO results. However, the following query will return all Users
in the "Administrator" group (group ID 1).

'Group List' LIKE "1;%" OR 'Group List' LIKE "% 1;%" OR 'Group List' LIKE
"%;1;"

AFAIK, this has always been the proper method to search the 'Group List' field
(see attached document titled "How To Query On The Group List Field", circa ARS
3.x). I'm pretty sure this is still valid.

Now, I am curious why this seems to have worked differently in ARS 5.1...
Perhaps this version allowed searches on the 'Group List' field with explicit
group names, or maybe it was only possible in the "Run If" statement on an
Active Link???

What happens if you run your qualification in the Advanced Query bar on your

  Subject: LIKE qualifications in 7.0

We're in the process of upgrading our AR System Server and Clients from
version 5.1.2 to 7.0.01 and I've run into a bit of a problem. I was asked to
upgrade my User and Admin tools to 7.0.01 on my PC for testing purposes, and to
draft an implementation plan. Our server is still 5.1.2 but I was under the
impression that the WUT is backwards compatible and I generally do very little
day-to-day work in the WUT anyway.

Anyhow, I upgraded with no problems and was able to login with no problems.
I did a cursory examination of some workflow and everything seemed okay. This
morning, I got a request to change the Group of a user. I went to the USER
form, made the required changes, and clicked a button to Add them as a System
POC and received an error:

"Before attempting to add a System POC, their Group List must be set to
System POC or System POC Manager. (ARERR 75001)

Just to make sure I hadn't screwed up somewhere along the line, I had one of
my coworkers attempt the change on his 5.1.2 WUT and it worked perfectly. To
make sure it wasn't a backwards compatibility problem, I tested the workflow on
our 7.0.01 dev server and received the same error.

Modifying Old Records

2008-06-18 Thread Kathy Morris
Hi,

I created a filter that executes on Submit and Modify.
If operation = Modify

Push to HPD:HelpDesk
(if Assignee="Bob Smith")

Push x to tmpfield
Push "Headquarters" to Group field

I am just trying to modify all old records.? It's not working.? I tried if the
operation is equal to Set and Set All.

How do you modify all the old records?

I've owned my own company since 2003. I also did it as a "We Own" with
Remedy PSO from 1999-2001 before they changed their consulting model.

Re: On-Call notification/assignment config question

2008-06-18 Thread Rabi Tripathi
See this earlier post. It's long, I have to warn you.

Subject: Re: ITSM 7: "On-Call" and "Shift"
Functionality question...RESOLVED

I have resolution(s)...kind of.

Yes, the intended design is that once a group's "On
Call" flag is set to "Yes", when an Incident is
assigned to that group:
1) only on call pages go out. Emails/alerts and even
pages about assignment, based on member's preference
on their profile STOP.
2) on-call pages do not honor any setting on on-call
member's profile. only the pager address is used
3)'Pager Email' is not used, only real pager address.
4)you can NOT get around this by doing anything on the
SYS:CFG-NotificationPreferences form. The "System
Default" and "User" records there are ignored,
contrary to what I said in earlier email.
5)one caveat: while looking for on-call members to
page about assignment, in case system fails to find at
least one person to page (say the only on call
person's pager address is missing), system will try to
be helpful and WILL trigger the regular
emai/alert/page notifications.

If you are testing this stuff, you will be thrown off
by 5 above and also by the fact that notifications
take upto something like 11 minutes to get to
"NTE:Notifier Log" form and will take longer to get to
inbox, pagers. And by various other settings that
drive notifications.

If you want regular emails/alerts/pages to go out
based on member's preferences, in addition to on-call
pages, disable these three filters:
NTE:NTG:NoOnCall_260_Group
NTE:NPC:GroupNotification_051
NTE:NTG:OnCall_105

Shift functionality is unfinished, so useless, as
somebody mentioned before. Better to hide it on
notification preference pop up.

You wish this were the end of the story, don't you?
Hang on, this is ACT I, Scene I.

ACT II Scene I
What happens if an incident is assigned to an on-call
group and also to a member at the same time? No
on-call page to the individual. Also no
email/alert/page based on his/her notification
preference. I am still processing this one in my mind.
Doesn't seem logical. The guy needs to be yanked out
of bed. Who's going to do that?

ACT II Scene II
Having a twisted mind, I also asked myself: what
happens if incident is assigned to a group only now,
and LATER assigned to a person?

The answer is bad. It pages ALL currently on-call
members of the group saying "incident has been
assigned to YOU". Imagine a group of people in
pajamas, eyes barely open, getting all mad.

A bug report has been created: SW00278274
This is a really bad one and is going to be very
common, so I need to fix this myself.

ACT II Scene III
On some of my tests, Owner group and/or Owners were
paged. I haven't been able to reproduce this recently.
The intended design, I am told, is that Assignees
receive on-call pages, not owners. Fine by me, if
that's how the code behaved.

Finally, there's a bug so that group assignment pages
(regular or on-call) do not go out properly to people
with numeric pages. Fix is to modify this filter
HPD:INC:NTAsgGrp_805_SetTag to have this included in
its set field: z1D NT Pager Message Numeric =
$Incident Number$
I haven't reported this one yet.

agree, it checks group member's user defined
setting on NTE:NotificationEvents form and if it finds
one, then takes into account his/her notification
preferences on CTM:People form

My installation does NOT do this--never--if the
group is flagged as on call. But you're right, it
would be logical if it did.

This would be logical, but it does not do this in
my installation.

This is what happens.

Scenario (A) Group flagged as on call:

1)On call page settings for the group on "CTM:Support
Group On-Call" are processed. Pages go out if
appropriate, regardless of member's preferences on
"CTM:People". Only thing used from CTM:People is the
paging address.
2)No matter 1 results in pages or not, checks group
memebr's "user" notification settings on
NTE:NotificationEvents. Any resulting notifications DO
take into

2008-06-18 Thread Rabi Tripathi
Been doing it for 2 1/2 years. It's a mixed bag.
Overall, I'm happy. For the longest time, I had no
company, just did 1099. Just last year got a LLC.

If you don't understand the last two sentences, you've
got a lot to learn to operate as an independent. It
took me quite some time to learn the terms, the math,
the tricks, the caveats and so forth. The paperwork
and the regulations and the taxes etc. And
negotiations, contracts. Most importantly, avoiding
the bad ones who won't pay. Still learning.

It's a different life/different "job". If you crave
stability, certainty, you probably won't like it
because it's really like an adventure with its ups and
downs and you are on your own in many ways. Call it
freedom/opportunity or call it chaos/risk. It is more
demanding than, in my opinion, a permanent job
especially a non-consulting one. Just my personal
opinion, so please don't shoot me. Say, I don't want
to be doing this till retirement.
