F5/Refresh removal

2008-10-21 Thread Barber, David
All,

Got some strange behaviour - we've got the F5/Refresh functionality being
disabled under specific circumstances - its fine when opening an incident from
a table form, or from some workflow, but do a search over a form, double click
on one of the results, it opens up, and the F5 button is not available. This
happens on all forms, from simple group definitions through to considerably
more complex incident forms.

How do you go about disabling/enabling F5? I've gone through workflow logs,
and there's nothing thats particularly obvious. We're running on ARS 7.0.1
(patch 006)/Solaris/Oracle, no ootb applications.

Regards

Dave

Problems calling java api from filter.

2008-10-21 Thread Sergio Tomillero
Hello People

I have a strange problem with an java api. The api is correct but it only
runs from active link.

If I execute the api from the server's command line, it runs correctly, but
if I execute it from a filter, it does not run returning ARERR 341.

I have reviewed all logs (arerror.log, arapi.log, filter.log, sql.log) but
they do not show anything special about the problem.

As example, the instruction in the server's command line, that runs Ok,
should be like this:

  java -Dentorno=D remedyServer.Access aaa RA111 password JOT000
0012345 00098765 Error DSE UA111 S JA2008

The instruction in the same in active link or filter, as it islike this:

$PROCESS$ @@:java -Dentorno=D remedyServer.Access new $field1$ password
$field2$ $field3$ $field4$ $Description$ $field5$ $field6$ $field7$ J
$field8$ $Field9$ $Field10$

As I have mentioned, from an active link it runs, but from a filter fails.

The configuration is ARServer 5.1.2, Windows 2000.

- Is it normal that the same instruction runs from an active link and does
not run from a filter?
- How can I find the error? What should I trace?

Thanks in advance,
Sergio Tomillero

Webservice: CHG_ChangeInterface_WS: ITSM v7

2008-10-21 Thread Khalil
Hi Listers,

I successfully generated the out of box CHG_ChangeInterface_WS WSDL using
.NET WebService Studio. However, when I run the Change_Query_Service (Get)
operation, input the Infrastructure_Change_ID and run (invoke) the WSDL, it
appears to run ok but the record returned is not the one I was expecting.
Most of the fields are null, date values are set to 01/01/0001, and
selection fields have their first value in the list populated.

I would like to be able to modify several fields on a change record in ITSM
v7. Not too sure about what I am missing, any assistance will be kindly
appreciated.

api connections to localhost fail after upgrade from v6.3 to v7.1

2008-10-21 Thread Urban, Robert (, externer Mitarbeiter)
Hi Folks,

on a Solaris10 (Niagara2) system we upgraded from v6.3p20 to v7.1p004. Now
I can no longer (using arsperl ars_Login()) get an API connection to
localhost. If I explicitly use the network-name of the system I can
establish a connection. Has anyone else seen this? We always configure
ars to use a specific port (3311), and a telnet to this port is successful,
which indicates that the connection is getting as far as the application-level.
Most network-applications I've seen explicitly provide a configuration
parameter to control which interfaces an application will listen on.
I know of no such parameter for ars.

Any ideas?

Re: BMC Elite?

I'm guessing that they did an initial 'Harvest' of the ARSList for email
addresses. If you have opted out, and are receiving the emails again, it
is my guess that maybe one of the people who signed up on the site has
invited you. There is a handy Invite link where you can invite a friend
to join.

I joined. The ARSlist is more useful, but I like being able to put a
name with a face, as you can do with the website in mention.

Thanks,

Gary

Re: Problems calling java api from filter.

2008-10-21 Thread Atul Vohra
Sergio,

When you call the code from the command line the environment variables are
based on your profile but when it is called from the filter it is based on
variables set in remedy.

Try this out -

Write a shell script (ex: javaapp.sh) that would call your java application. In
this script echo the environment variables.

Run from command line
javaapp.sh envcommand.out 21

From the filter call the following:
javapp.sh envremedy.out 21

Compare the 2 out files and see the difference. Then set env variables as
needed in the shell script

Re: api connections to localhost fail after upgrade from v6.3 to v7.1

2008-10-21 Thread Ben Chernys
Hi Rob,

Long time no see. Send me an email on my private email (below).

localhost should work fine. Ars you setting the server port in the perl
script? Try
export ARTCPPORT=3311
and then your perl script.

If that works than you haven't called the ARSetServerPort f(). There will
be an ARSperl equivalent f().
Do this right after ARInitialization - before any REAL f().

As far as I know, when you do a listen on a port on a machine that listen
should work on all interfaces of that machine. ARS Server has no
configuration for which IP/IF it will listen on and any IP used will connect
to the server.

Re: problems w/jakarta for mid tier on 64-bit W2003 Enterprise

2008-10-21 Thread Matt Reinfeldt
Donald,

It sounds like you're on the right path with this. You do need to set IIS
to run as 32-bit and get the asp.net updated. However, you should be
loading a newer version of MT, IMHO. Try this: go to Add/Remove Programs
and uninstall both Tomcat and the Jakarta ISAPI Redirector (not Mid-Tier).
Go to Windows Explorer and delete the d:\program files\apache. folder and
sub-folders. Now, run the ARS 7.1 patch005 MT Installer. Choose IIS and
Tomcat, and 'reinstall' your MT. It should reinstall both the Jakarta and
Tomcat for you. You'll get Tomcat 5.5.25, which is now bundled with
patch004 and patch005.

I've used the above method several times on Windows 2003 x64 with success,
but it would not work if the IIS had not been changed to 32-bit and
restarted first.

Good luck!

Subject: problems w/jakarta for mid tier on 64-bit W2003 Enterprise

**

So far, we've been unable to bring the Mid Tier up using Jakarta on our new
64-bit W2003 Enterprise server. We've been working with Support for a week
now, they're pointing to Jakarta as the problem. Here's what we've tried so
far:

- successfully loaded ARS 7.1 p002 on MS Windows Server 2003 Enterprise
Edition, 64-bit to D:/Program Files, received no errors.

- ran the command that enables 32-bit mode: cscript
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET
W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1

- found the ARSList post re: D:/Program Files vs. D:/Program Files (x86) but
according to Support, the Mid Tier is registered as a 32-bit application so
Windows knows how to deal with it.

- ran the command that installs the 32-bit version of asp.net to clear the
ISAPI filter error:
%SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i

- downloaded fresh copies of Tomcat and Jakarta directly overriding those
provided during the Remedy install. Tried both 32-bit and 64-bit versions
of Jakarta.

- Mid Tier simply won't come up under IIS using Jakarta Redirector. We
turned on logging, the debug log shows: jk_isapi_plugin.c (1417): [/arsys]
is not a servlet url.

- Able to use Mid Tier under Tomcat without issue, but we must use IIS.

- Loaded ServletExec, Mid Tier works under this as well so it may an option,
albeit an expensive one.

If anyone has run into a similar problem, any insights would be most
appreciated. Thanks. - Don

I use vista x64 on my laptop, and the only issue I've run into with the
Client Tools is with the AR System ODBC Driver. It is not too stable in
64-bit environments (nor does BMC claim it will be, btw). Other than that,
the Admin, User, and Import tools all seem to function with no issues for
me.

Good luck,

Re: api connections to localhost fail after upgrade from v6.3 to v7.1

2008-10-21 Thread Axton
If you upgraded remedy, and your perl scripts are expecting the remedy
libs in a certain location/version, and they are no longer available
in that format, arsperl will not work. Upgrade arsperl, compile it
against the version of the api's available on your server. An
alternative approach would be to place the 6.3 api somewhere, then set
the ld_library_path so it reaches the 6.3 api prior to the 7.1 api in
the sessions where you use arsperl.

establish a connection. Has anyone else seen this? We always configure
ars to use a specific port (3311), and a telnet to this port is successful,
which indicates that the connection is getting as far as the

Most network-applications I've seen explicitly provide a configuration

I know of no such parameter for ars.

 Any ideas?

I'm somehow on their list and getting their emails even though I

the
way they went about gathering members is what people are having an

I don't think so.. I haven't received anything from them personally.
If
they were harvesting addresses, my guess would be that there would be
more traffic and/or complaints. The only exposure that I have had to
them is here on the list. With that being said, I am *highly* amused
when one does come through. The whole notion of an 'elite' is
questionable at best (unless they are in the business of proving their
members as such) and affixing the letters BMC on the front is just
icing
on the cake unless they are sactioned. Heh. IMNSHO - they could have
used the name 'remedy monkeys/guys/cyborgs/people/whatever' and got

Bala,

I saw this on the 25th of every month when I was with Navy Medicine. Some
months it would affect the inbound email processing, some months it would
affect the outbound email processing, and some months it would affect both.

Our workaround was to restart the ARServer process on the 27th of each month.
BMC thought it might have been a java inconsistency causing it, but never
solved the issue.

We were running ARServer 7.0.1 on MSSQL, Java version 1.5_12; Inbound emails
IMAP, Outbound emails SMTP.

Bala,

I saw this on the 25th of every month when I was with Navy Medicine.
Some months it would affect the inbound email processing, some months it
would affect the outbound email processing, and some months it would
affect both.

Our workaround was to restart the ARServer process on the 27th of each
month. BMC thought it might have been a java inconsistency causing it,
but never solved the issue.

We were running ARServer 7.0.1 on MSSQL, Java version 1.5_12; Inbound
emails IMAP, Outbound emails SMTP.

Hi,

Has anyone experienced the email engine being able to receive inbound
emails, but not process outbound emails? Outbound emails are sitting in
the AR System Email Messages form without any errors. The AREmail
process is up and running and outbound emails just stop being sent out
at random times. The only way to fix the issue is to restart the email
engine. I don't see any errors in the debug logs and am trying to come
up with a way to troubleshoot this.

Environment

ARS Server Patch24
Email Engine Patch 24
OS: Solaris 9
Oracle 10

Outbound Emails: smtp

Hi,

Yes, I see that it lost connection to the smtp sever. I would think that if
the email engine would have an issue with connecting then it would try again
per the polling setting.

Thanks,

Re: problems w/jakarta for mid tier on 64-bit W2003 Enterprise

2008-10-21 Thread Savant, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Matt:

Thanks for the assistance, it is much appreciated. I followed the steps you
outlined but although Jakarta was loaded with the p005 'upgrade', it still
didn't appear as an ISAPI Filter for the web site. In the past, we've added it
manually but another ARSLister had previously pointed a step from the
installation guide that does this for you:

4. From the command window, run the following command:
cscript.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\iisext.vbs /AddFile C:\Program Files
(x86)\Apache Software Foundation\Jakarta Isapi
Redirector\bin\isapi_redirect.dll 1 jakarta 1 jakarta
This step adds and enables the Jakarta Isapi Redirector web service extension.

Unfortunately, we get an odd error from running this command: Error while
configuring application or extension. You were not connected because a
duplicate name exists on the network. Go to System in Control Panel to change
the computer name and try again.. I'm running it down with our server folks
because it makes no sense.

Thanks. - Don

Good luck!

Thanks. - Don

I used the OLE spell check described in Integrating with Plug-ins and
Third-Party Products Guide 700 pg272. It works just fine with ARS
7.0.1p004 WUT and MS Word 2003.

It transfers contents of any selected field to MS Word; spell check is
performed by MS Word pop-up and values returned to the specific field.
IIRC there was an option to have the spell checker show or work in
background.

Web users can rely on Firefox, or download ieSpell plugin for IE(free)
or download and customize solutions like Keyoti RapidSpell (free for
trial). Please feel free to contact me if offline if you have any
questions, thanks,

Re: Using Military Time

2008-10-21 Thread Mike White

Display in date/time fields on forms as records are displayed?

Time display is a function of the workstation (Windows). Control
Panel=Regional and Language Settings=Customize=Time.  Set HH:mm:ss for
24-hour time (hh:mm:ss for 12-hour time). Single characters will
zero-suppress, if that's what you want.

Hello,

I have perused the archives quite a bit looking for a way for Date/Time
fields, by default, to display a 24 hour time instead of an AM/PM.

This is on solaris 9, AR 6.3 patch 22.

I have tried the following:

Setting my env variables ARDATE, ARDATEONLY, and ARTIMEONLY and
restarting the server.
Setting the variables inside the /etc/init.d/arsystem startup script
Setting the variables as Environment variable: ARDATE= inside both the
armonitor.conf and ar.conf files. I have tried both the windows and
unix formats.

None of these methods has worked.

Here is what I have tried to set my variables to:

ARDATE=%m/%d/%y %T
ARDATEONLY=%m/%d/%y
ARTIMEONLY=%T

Environment-variable: ARDATE=%m/%d/%y %T
Environment-variable: ARDATE=MM/dd/yy HH:MM:SS

I've also checked the user preferences form but there does not seem to
be a custom time format section, just custom date format.

Has anyone gotten 24-hour time working on a solaris environment?

1. Set field tmpSpellCount toLENGTH($Description$)
2 Set tmpSpellCount to $tmpSpellCount$ - 2 (for some reason it
only works correctly if I subtract 2 from here)
3 Set Description to LEFT($Description$, $tmpSpellCount$)

All,

I just looked at the Compatibility Matrix and did not find where SQL
2008 is supported, yet. Does anyone know if SQL 2008 will be supported
when ARS 7.5 is released?

What I had to do to get this to work was create a temporary Integer
field.  I called it tmpSpellCount.   After the spell check finishes, I
do  3 set fields in the active link.

 1.  Set field tmpSpellCount   to    LENGTH($Description$)
2   Set tmpSpellCount   to  $tmpSpellCount$ - 2   (for some reason it
only works correctly if I subtract 2 from here)
 3   Set Description   to   LEFT($Description$, $tmpSpellCount$)

 Hope this helps.

2008-10-21 Thread Sokol, Brian
Can anyone offer a suggestion? I have tkts open with BMC and BO but I am
not getting anywhere. I can pull up a report but get a generic error
when I try to print it. I can not even find any kind of error to check.
It simply says an error has occurred on the server would you like to
view the error information? If I click Yes it just opens another copy of
the report.

I have been trying to get this resolved for weeks and have run out of
ideas.

This saga continues with BMC saying this is a Business Objects problem
and BO saying it is a BMC problem. By default we are using the DHTML
viewer. You are forced to use an activex print control. That is what is
failing. The BO server is using SSL and BMC feels that may be causing a
problem. The BO support folks were involved in a webex yesterday and
here are their thoughts:

We just had a call with BO support. Their first reaction was that, since
BMC is using their own viewer that's deployed during the installation,
they will not support.
BO uses the following directory to view the reports
D:\BOEIXR2\common\3.5\crystalreportviewer115.

During the webex demo they were able to successfully view and print the
same PO report through BO Infoview.

Anyone out there have any ideas? Here is our environment. Does anyone
have a similar setup? BMC claims that all their customers are using BO
11.5. Not sure if that is a true statement.
BO Server: Windows server 2003/BO Enterprise 11.5/IIS and New Atlanta.

You are having quite a saga with this. I don't have the server in front
of me right now. I didn't copy everything - just that directory. Sorry I
didn't read all of your email. I just saw the error message and jumped
in. You have dealt with this message.

Maybe try this. I'm using the dynamic HTML viewer and it works well. I
don't think it has an activex print function. If you switch your BO
system to another viewer maybe this will help. For me changing my viewer
preferences does nothing. I think it takes the default from within the
BO system itself.

Hi Rod,

Yes that is what I did as well. My report would not even load on screen.
Now since I copied reportadd.exe over to the C drive the report loads
OK. My problem now is it will not print. When you click on the print
icon in the report it loads an active x print control and then throws
that same error. I think it is still looking in the wrong directory. BMC
is saying I should copy the entire BO directory to the C drive.

Did you copy all the folders to the C drive? I just copied the one exe
and two related DLLs.

the D drive so it didn't work and threw the same error you have (from
memory). I merely copied this program from the location it was installed
in and the other files in the same directory to the specified directory

I suspect that the integration is hard coded with the default install
location. I couldn't find anywhere that I could change this so had to
use the workaround above.

What I had to do to get this to work was create a temporary Integer
field. I called it tmpSpellCount. After the spell check finishes, I
do 3 set fields in the active link.

1. Set field tmpSpellCount toLENGTH($Description$)
2 Set tmpSpellCount to $tmpSpellCount$ - 2 (for some reason it
only works correctly if I subtract 2 from here)
3 Set Description to LEFT($Description$, $tmpSpellCount$)

Hope this helps.

when I try to print it. I can not even find any kind of error to check.
It simply says an error has occurred on the server would you like to
view the error information? If I click Yes it just opens another copy of
the report.

I have been trying to get this resolved for weeks and have run out of

They are using SSL on this server

Hi Brian,

Re: Email Engine stops sending Emails

2008-10-21 Thread strauss
I would call it clueless as well as stateless; we have had plenty of trouble
with it (7.1.00.002 and 004 on Win2K3 Ent x64). If the service crashes it can
be set to restart (at the service level), but more often than not it crashes
the java and the service hangs in a state where it cannot stop, much less
restart properly. As far as connecting to the mailbox, it will lose its
connection (MAPI) to my Exchange server whenever that service stops to run a
backup, and note the error in the AR System Email Error Logs, but since the
service is still running it just picks up the connection again on the next
polling cycle.  The service has to be running, or it will not try to reconnect;
there isn't anything like the armonitor that is trying to restart the aremaild
if it dies. The problem is always when the aremaild process hangs with a java
error, usually without crashing the Windows service so that it can detect the
stop and attempt a new start.

Support has us on a debug build of 7.1.00.004 right now that behaves strangely,
but is not crashing unless I induce that by sending it one incoming email
message that has proven deadly (why that one, we don't know - we think it has
hidden characters in it or something).

Re: CM - Performance Rating Field

2008-10-21 Thread Chowdhury, Tauf
I haven't used it yet in my environment but I believe it is used to rate
the Change Manager on the Change Request. Based on the rating, you can
base your Risk configuration to look at Performance Rating when it
calculated the Risk level of the change. I am not sure where in their
Mean Average algorithm this falls into. The idea is if a Change Manager
has a consistent poor perf rating, then the risk of the change becomes
higher.

I think this is explained in the ITSM Change User Guide.

It would be great if someone who has used this functionality can respond
as to how effective it is or how it is calculated with the OOTB
algorithm for Risk.

Re: ITSM 7.0.3 -Installing Knowledge Management Module

2008-10-21 Thread Alan blake
It depends how you want to manage your knowledge. If you want to have
static word documents be your repository of knowledge then you would simply
utilize the legacy data feature of the KM module that allows you to drop
them into a folder called general that RKM can read and index and be
usable in your KM search results.

Alternatively, you convert your legacy data to RKM formatted solutions that
can be maintained with an authoring workflow and through the use of KM best
practices become more useful and effective knowledge to your organization.

2008-10-21 Thread Meyer, Jennifer L
Have you installed your RKM database yet? If so, create a short knowledgebase
article using RKM, then go look at the .xml file it creates. You need to save
your Word documents in a .xml file that matches the format the RKM database can
read. Most likely, you'll end up creating a macro in Word to format all of
your old documents into the new .xml format and copy them into your RKM
database.

They are using SSL on this server

Hi Brian,

I just copied the one exe
and two related DLLs.

do  3 set fields in the active link.

 1.  Set field tmpSpellCount   to    LENGTH($Description$)
2   Set tmpSpellCount   to  $tmpSpellCount$ - 2   (for some reason it
only works correctly if I subtract 2 from here)
 3   Set Description   to   LEFT($Description$, $tmpSpellCount$)

 Hope this helps.

$application$ null

2008-10-21 Thread Brien Dieterle
I'm adding a little report problem button to a lot of our custom forms to
basically submits a bug report for the form. I am capturing the Form, View,
etc. I wanted to captured Application but it is null unless you open the
actual application, which we apparently have not been doing :-)

From the manual:
$APPLICATION$: The name (not label) of the currently running application. On
the web client, this keyword is set to NULL when the form is opened from a
URL that does not include the application's name. In BMC Remedy User, this
keyword is set to NULL when the form is opened outside of an application.

Ok, so, have we been using (local) Applications all wrong? We set the Entry
Point on the Primary Form for each application so that it shows up on the
Home Page application list. Clicking these actually bypasses the
application mode completely and is like opening and independent form.
Everything in the manual seems to suggest than an Application List (such
as on the homepage) is composed of links to Applications and yet... they
are not.

From the manual:
Presenting applications to users:
The typical or default method to present an application to users is to
define entry points that appear in a home page, as explained in Chapter 9,
Defining entry points and home pages.

Are there any suggestions for enforcing $application$ usage rather than
direct forms? I couldn't see any way to get a true application link to
appear on the Home page.
for instance here is an actual application URL:

http://server/arsys/*apps*/server/AR+System+Administration

but the link on the Home Page is to the *form*:

http://server/arsys/*forms*
/server/AR+System+Administration%3A+Console/ARSystemConsole/

As always, if there is a better way to skin this cat (bug reporting) I am
all ears!

Thanks!

Brien

Time Segments and Outages

2008-10-21 Thread Scott Philben
I was looking at the outage functionality in ITSM 7.3 and wondered
whether it was possible to see all outages upcoming somewhere besides
the actual outage form. Is there some sort of console place where

I know you can see the outages for a CI when you open the CI or the

know that there is an outage for a specific CI in the first place?

Am I asking too much? Is this something I will have to make myself?

Re: Using Military Time

2008-10-21 Thread Rod Harris
Hi Paul,

There are AR user preference fields for date and time formats that will
override the windows client settings. There are two fields for the mid tier and
a separate combined field for the windows user tool (WUT). From memory you may
get issues in ITSM if you drop seconds from the time display but the change to
a 24 hour clock shouldn't be a problem. You could use workflow to default a
user's preference setting to a 24 hour clock. I've done this sort of thing at a
couple of client sites recently. One was all web and the other all WUT so it
should work for both.

In Australia we set our WUT date time format to
dd/MM/ HH:mm:ss

You were on the right track when you found the date format setting in the
preference field. It can actually includes formats for both date and time.
