F5/Refresh removal

2008-10-21 Thread Barber, David
All,

Got some strange behaviour - we've got the F5/Refresh functionality being
disabled under specific circumstances - its fine when opening an incident from
a table form, or from some workflow, but do a search over a form, double click
on one of the results, it opens up, and the F5 button is not available. This
happens on all forms, from simple group definitions through to considerably
more complex incident forms.

How do you go about disabling/enabling F5? I've gone through workflow logs,
and there's nothing thats particularly obvious. We're running on ARS 7.0.1
(patch 006)/Solaris/Oracle, no ootb applications.

Regards

Dave

Problems calling java api from filter.

2008-10-21 Thread Sergio Tomillero
Hello People

I have a strange problem with an java api. The api is correct but it only
runs from active link.

If I execute the api from the server's command line, it runs correctly, but
if I execute it from a filter, it does not run returning ARERR 341.

I have reviewed all logs (arerror.log, arapi.log, filter.log, sql.log) but
they do not show anything special about the problem.

As example, the instruction in the server's command line, that runs Ok,
should be like this:

  java -Dentorno=D remedyServer.Access aaa RA111 password JOT000
0012345 00098765 "Error DSE" UA111 S JA2008

The instruction in the same in active link or filter, as it islike this:

$PROCESS$ @@:java -Dentorno=D remedyServer.Access new $field1$ password
$field2$ $field3$ "$field4$" "$Description$" $field5$ $field6$ "$field7$" J
"$field8$" "$Field9$" "$Field10$"

As I have mentioned, from an active link it runs, but from a filter fails.

The configuration is ARServer 5.1.2, Windows 2000.

- Is it normal that the same instruction runs from an active link and does
not run from a filter?
- How can I find the error? What should I trace?

Thanks in advance,
Sergio Tomillero

Hi Tristan,
But if I can execute the instruction from the command line of the server, I
suppose the patch and classpath are correct, aren't they? Or may be I should
indicate something additional in Remedy Configuration? The ar.cfg are

Webservice: CHG_ChangeInterface_WS: ITSM v7

2008-10-21 Thread Khalil
Hi Listers,

I successfully generated the out of box CHG_ChangeInterface_WS WSDL using
.NET WebService Studio. However, when I run the Change_Query_Service (Get)
operation, input the Infrastructure_Change_ID and run (invoke) the WSDL, it
appears to run ok but the record returned is not the one I was expecting.
Most of the fields are null, date values are set to 01/01/0001, and
selection fields have their first value in the list populated.

I would like to be able to modify several fields on a change record in ITSM
v7. Not too sure about what I am missing, any assistance will be kindly
appreciated.

Is there any product or plug-in to connect
Control-M and Remedy 7 (to say, create incidents when jobs fail)? If not,
what would be the better way to do this? what would be the right solution

api connections to localhost fail after upgrade from v6.3 to v7.1

2008-10-21 Thread Urban, Robert (, externer Mitarbeiter)
Hi Folks,

on a Solaris10 (Niagara2) system we upgraded from v6.3p20 to v7.1p004. Now
I can no longer (using arsperl "ars_Login()") get an API connection to
"localhost". If I explicitly use the network-name of the system I can
establish a connection. Has anyone else seen this? We always configure
ars to use a specific port (3311), and a telnet to this port is successful,
which indicates that the connection is getting as far as the application-level.
Most network-applications I've seen explicitly provide a configuration
parameter to control which interfaces an application will "listen" on.
I know of no such parameter for ars.

Any ideas?

Re: BMC Elite?

2008-10-21 Thread Opela, Gary L CTR USAF AFMC 72 CS/SCBAH
I'm guessing that they did an initial 'Harvest' of the ARSList for email
addresses. If you have opted out, and are receiving the emails again, it
is my guess that maybe one of the people who signed up on the site has
invited you. There is a handy Invite link where you can invite a friend
to join.

I joined. The ARSlist is more useful, but I like being able to put a
name with a face, as you can do with the website in mention.

Thanks,

Gary

Re: Problems calling java api from filter.

2008-10-21 Thread Atul Vohra
Sergio,

When you call the code from the command line the environment variables are
based on your profile but when it is called from the filter it is based on
variables set in remedy.

Try this out -

Write a shell script (ex: javaapp.sh) that would call your java application. In
this script echo the environment variables.

Run from command line
javaapp.sh >> envcommand.out 2>>&1

>From the filter call the following:
javapp.sh >> envremedy.out 2>>&1

Compare the 2 out files and see the difference. Then set env variables as
needed in the shell script

Re: api connections to localhost fail after upgrade from v6.3 to v7.1

2008-10-21 Thread Ben Chernys
Hi Rob,

Long time no see. Send me an email on my private email (below).

localhost should work fine. Ars you setting the server port in the perl
script? Try
export ARTCPPORT=3311
and then your perl script.

If that works than you haven't called the ARSetServerPort f(). There will
be an ARSperl equivalent f().
Do this right after ARInitialization - before any REAL f().

As far as I know, when you do a listen on a port on a "machine" that listen
should work on all interfaces of that machine. ARS Server has no
configuration for which IP/IF it will listen on and any IP used will connect
to the server.

Cheers

"localhost". If I explicitly use the network-name of the system I can
establish a connection. Has anyone else seen this? We always configure ars
to use a specific port (3311), and a telnet to this port is successful,
which indicates that the connection is getting as far as the
application-level.
Most network-applications I've seen explicitly provide a configuration
parameter to control which interfaces an application will "listen" on.
I know of no such parameter for ars.

Any ideas?

Subject: Using Military Time

Hello,

I have perused the archives quite a bit looking for a way for Date/Time
fields, by default, to display a 24 hour time instead of an AM/PM.

This is on solaris 9, AR 6.3 patch 22.

I have tried the following:

Setting my env variables ARDATE, ARDATEONLY, and ARTIMEONLY and
restarting the server.
Setting the variables inside the /etc/init.d/arsystem startup script
Setting the variables as "Environment variable: ARDATE=" inside both the
armonitor.conf and ar.conf files. I have tried both the windows and
unix formats.

None of these methods has worked.

Here is what I have tried to set my variables to:

ARDATE=%m/%d/%y %T
ARDATEONLY=%m/%d/%y
ARTIMEONLY=%T

Environment-variable: ARDATE=%m/%d/%y %T
Environment-variable: ARDATE=MM/dd/yy HH:MM:SS

I've also checked the user preferences form but there does not seem to
be a custom time format section, just custom date format.

Has anyone gotten 24-hour time working on a solaris environment?

Re: problems w/jakarta for mid tier on 64-bit W2003 Enterprise

2008-10-21 Thread Matt Reinfeldt
Donald,

It sounds like you're on the right path with this. You do need to set IIS
to run as 32-bit and get the asp.net updated. However, you should be
loading a newer version of MT, IMHO. Try this: go to Add/Remove Programs
and uninstall both Tomcat and the Jakarta ISAPI Redirector (not Mid-Tier).
Go to Windows Explorer and delete the d:\program files\apache. folder and
sub-folders. Now, run the ARS 7.1 patch005 MT Installer. Choose IIS and
Tomcat, and 'reinstall' your MT. It should reinstall both the Jakarta and
Tomcat for you. You'll get Tomcat 5.5.25, which is now bundled with
patch004 and patch005.

I've used the above method several times on Windows 2003 x64 with success,
but it would not work if the IIS had not been changed to 32-bit and
restarted first.

Good luck!

**

So far, we've been unable to bring the Mid Tier up using Jakarta on our new
64-bit W2003 Enterprise server. We've been working with Support for a week
now, they're pointing to Jakarta as the problem. Here's what we've tried so
far:

- successfully loaded ARS 7.1 p002 on MS Windows Server 2003 Enterprise
Edition, 64-bit to D:/Program Files, received no errors.

- ran the command that enables 32-bit mode: cscript
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET
W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1

- found the ARSList post re: D:/Program Files vs. D:/Program Files (x86) but
according to Support, the Mid Tier is registered as a 32-bit application so
Windows knows how to deal with it.

- ran the command that installs the 32-bit version of asp.net to clear the
ISAPI filter error:
%SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i

- downloaded fresh copies of Tomcat and Jakarta directly overriding those
provided during the Remedy install. Tried both 32-bit and 64-bit versions
of Jakarta.

- Mid Tier simply won't come up under IIS using Jakarta Redirector. We
turned on logging, the debug log shows: jk_isapi_plugin.c (1417): [/arsys]
is not a servlet url.

- Able to use Mid Tier under Tomcat without issue, but we must use IIS.

- Loaded ServletExec, Mid Tier works under this as well so it may an option,
albeit an expensive one.

If anyone has run into a similar problem, any insights would be most
appreciated. Thanks. - Don

Re: api connections to localhost fail after upgrade from v6.3 to v7.1

2008-10-21 Thread Axton
If you upgraded remedy, and your perl scripts are expecting the remedy
libs in a certain location/version, and they are no longer available
in that format, arsperl will not work. Upgrade arsperl, compile it
against the version of the api's available on your server. An
alternative approach would be to place the 6.3 api somewhere, then set
the ld_library_path so it reaches the 6.3 api prior to the 7.1 api in
the sessions where you use arsperl.

I'm guessing that they did an initial 'Harvest' of the ARSList for

it
is my guess that maybe one of the people who signed up on the site has

Just because more people aren't complaining doesn't mean its not true.
I'm somehow on their list and getting their emails even though I

the
way they went about gathering members is what people are having an

I don't think so.. I haven't received anything from them personally.
If
they were harvesting addresses, my guess would be that there would be
more traffic and/or complaints. The only exposure that I have had to
them is here on the list. With that being said, I am *highly* amused
when one does come through. The whole notion of an 'elite' is
questionable at best (unless they are in the business of proving their
members as such) and affixing the letters BMC on the front is just
icing
on the cake unless they are sactioned. Heh. IMNSHO - they could have
used the name 'remedy monkeys/guys/cyborgs/people/whatever' and got
the

'elite'

emails, but not process outbound emails? Outbound emails are sitting in
the AR System Email Messages form without any errors. The AREmail
process is up and running and outbound emails just stop being sent out
at random times. The only way to fix the issue is to restart the email
engine. I don't see any errors in the debug logs and am trying to come
up with a way to troubleshoot this.

Bala,

I saw this on the 25th of every month when I was with Navy Medicine. Some
months it would affect the inbound email processing, some months it would
affect the outbound email processing, and some months it would affect both.

Our workaround was to restart the ARServer process on the 27th of each month.
BMC thought it might have been a java inconsistency causing it, but never
solved the issue.

We were running ARServer 7.0.1 on MSSQL, Java version 1.5_12; Inbound emails
IMAP, Outbound emails SMTP.

2008-10-21 Thread Darrell Reading
I would check the /var/adm/syslog/mail.log equivalent to Solaris to see
if outgoing mails continue to go out via other mechanisms when the
ARmail process is having issues.

Hi,

Yes, I see that it lost connection to the smtp sever. I would think that if
the email engine would have an issue with connecting then it would try again
per the polling setting.

Thanks,

Bala

Re: problems w/jakarta for mid tier on 64-bit W2003 Enterprise

2008-10-21 Thread Savant, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Matt:

Thanks for the assistance, it is much appreciated. I followed the steps you
outlined but although Jakarta was loaded with the p005 'upgrade', it still
didn't appear as an ISAPI Filter for the web site. In the past, we've added it
manually but another ARSLister had previously pointed a step from the
installation guide that does this for you:

4. From the command window, run the following command:
cscript.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\iisext.vbs /AddFile "C:\Program Files
(x86)\Apache Software Foundation\Jakarta Isapi
Redirector\bin\isapi_redirect.dll" 1 jakarta 1 jakarta
This step adds and enables the Jakarta Isapi Redirector web service extension.

Unfortunately, we get an odd error from running this command: "Error while
configuring application or extension. You were not connected because a
duplicate name exists on the network. Go to System in Control Panel to change
the computer name and try again.". I'm running it down with our server folks
because it makes no sense.

Thanks. - Don

Good luck!

Matt Reinfeldt

Thanks. - Don
