Re: server crash ARS 7.0.1 web services ORACLE 10 Solaris

2008-11-04 Thread Axton
It's a defect in arserverd.  Log a ticket with your support channel;
they are the only ones that can fix the issue. Generate a core file
to include with the ticket, as this will expedite the resolution of
the issue from the vendor. The data is as important as the stack
trace when debugging.

http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-0434/gbpjz?a=view

You may request a patch 8 debug build, then generate the core file;
this will cause the core file to include debugging symbols. You can
check whether the build of arserverd you have is stripped or not using
file(1).

name of our hot backup server. Anyone have to do this before? Since we
backup the production db and restore it to the hot backup server, we are
wondering how this will effect changing the name of the server.

The obvious problem is that shafqatayaz becomes 123456 in the submitter

Re: On Call System

2008-11-04 Thread John
Just wondering -- would you like to provide visibility into the
schedules of the people on-call?

Example:
A person might want to see their schedule in a calendar format for the
week?

A manager might want to see their groups schedule for a week?

If so - please take a look at Kinetic Calendar.
http://www.kineticdata.com/Products/KineticCalendar/index.html

The original goal of Kinetic Calendar was to be able to view On-call
schedules for Remedy. However, we built it much more generically than
that - and most people use it to view change management information.

We actually have a writeup on how to use Kinetic Calendar to view/
manage/change your on-call schedule of people for ITSM7 -- if you have
interest - let me know.

Thanks,

-John

What we do here is give the user's start and end fields so we don't
have
to have a record per day. A group that may have 1 person on call
for a
week would only have 1 record instead of 7. When displaying the on
call

we show any record whose start = $TIMESTAMP$ and end = $TIMESTAMP$.

To validate on Submit or Modify we check that the Start Date/Time = an
ending Date/Time for the same group (or this start is in between
another

records start/end dates).

Showing it in a calander is a bit trickier but can be done.

RSP 7.X?

2008-11-04 Thread Kemes, Lisa
I'm thinking about taking the BMC Remedy AR System 7.x: Application
Requirements Analysis, Design Development class and getting my RSP
certification. If anyone has taken it, what's the level of difficulty in your
opinion?

I was going to take it in March, but at the end of 2008, simply taking the
What's New in 7.x is not going to be good enough anymore.

Here's what I've taken so far:

BMC Remedy AR System 6.x: Administering - Part 1 (WBT)
BMC Remedy AR System 6.x: Administering - Part 2
BMC Remedy AR System 6.x: Administering - Part 3
BMC Remedy AR System 7.x: Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting

If I take Remedy AR System 7.x: Application Requirements Analysis, Design
Development and take the test before 2008, I'll only have to take the What's
New in 7.x WBT (which I think I already took)

After 2008, you have to either take 7.x Part 1, 2, and 3, or take an
equivalency exam for Part 1 and 2 (and still take the class for Part 3) for 7.x.

So now I'm going to have to take this class in December and I was hoping for a
nice holiday with no studying, but I guess that's not going to be.

When studying for this exam, are the books the main resource?

Thanks everyone!

Subject: RSP 7.X?

**
I'm thinking about taking the BMC Remedy AR System 7.x: Application
Requirements Analysis, Design Development class and getting my RSP
certification. If anyone has taken it, what's the level of difficulty in
your opinion?

After 2008, you have to either take 7.x Part 1, 2, and 3, or take an
equivalency exam for Part 1 and 2 (and still take the class for Part 3) for
7.x.

So now I'm going to have to take this class in December and I was hoping for
a nice holiday with no studying, but I guess that's not going to be.

When studying for this exam, are the books the main resource?

Thanks everyone!

Re: RSP 7.X?

2008-11-04 Thread Opela, Gary L CTR USAF AFMC 72 CS/SCBAH
Lisa, I found all of the classes fairly easy and straightforward. If
you've been developing remedy solutions for awhile, especially if you
have much custom experience, then the classes should be cake for you.

The final class, where you actually earn your RSP, involves spending
around 3 or 4 days creating an application. They will give you a little
to start with, and then you finish the rest. The people in my class
ranged on their abilities. We had two people finish a day or day and a
half early, and then, from what I understand, a few people finished on
the last day.

Mainly go in it with confidence, and don't get freaked out. They are
good classes and the RSP is worth it.

Not so much difficult technically, it really just helps to round out your
'consulting' skills.
All about how to best conduct the full life cycle of the software
development process.

Back when I took them, The RADD class was basically a shorter version of the
RAC class.

Re: PL/SQL function call via set fields.

2008-11-04 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
You may want to default the value in your get_hash function in Oracle

Try something like
   CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION GET_hash (in_value VarChar2 :=
'somedefault') return VarChar2 is
for your function definition

This way if Remedy does not have a value for current_field when you call
the function it will use the default value

Another thing you may look at is to see exactly what Remedy is sending
to the database by looking in the SQL logs.

Hey B,

I think this is the same error I get whenever an attempt is made to use
the SELECT on the first attempt. But, it works on the second attempt
and every other attempt until Remedy server is restarted. The Oracle
error is basically saying that Remedy is not defining the variable
before it is getting to Oracle.

Greetings ,

we've a small function in Oracle 10g to return a transcoded/hashed
value for its input parameter., and are trying to use it for setting
the transcoded values into the DB.

we're running ITSM 7.0

my filter Set Fields SQL looks like this -

select get_hash('$current_field$') from dual;

the return value is assigned to the current field -

current_field = $1$

But whenever the filter is triggered, I see the following error. Any
idea how to get this fixed?

ARERR [552] Failure during SQL operation to the database : ORA-24374:

My sqlplus prompt gives the correct response value for the function
call using the select statement.

Re: Microsoft MapPoint

2008-11-04 Thread LJ Longwing
I worked on a system once that needed GIS Located points on a map for
incidents. What was basically done is that each site that could have an
incident built against it had its lat and long loaded into a table, and I
published a web service for MapPoint to poll on a specified period, this web
service provided them basic information that they wanted in mouse hover
events and they placed the ticket data on the map based on the lat and long
stored for that site...

Re: Prefix on Request ID

Hi,

If you want to change the prefix of old records, RRR|Chive can do this for
you.

https://www.rrr.se/cgi/rrrchive/main

Sample config to change the prefix:
source_server = myserver
source_user   = Demo
source_password   =
source_form   = HelpDesk
target_server = myserver
target_form   = HelpDesk
qual  = 1=1
transfertype  = MOVE
entryidmode   = ABC
logfile   = rrrchive.log
loglevel  = INFO
progressbar   = YES

Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://www.rrr.se

* RRR|Log - Performance issues or elusive bugs? Analyze your Remedy logs.
* RRR|Translator - Manage and automate your language translations.
Find these products, and many free tools and utilities, at http://rrr.se.

 Okay, I need to add a prefix to my request id. I did it in test, and all
 looks fine. Can anyone think of anything I might need to test?

 As far as I know, we don't use the request ID field for anything
 specific.

 Thanks,

Re: Changing Login Name

2008-11-04 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

If you need to change the data in your current system, you can use our
free RRR|LoginConv tool.

You need a conversion file in the following format:
mizm = 12345
shafqata = 54321
axtong = 2

https://www.rrr.se/cgi/tools/main#rrrLoginConv

It will go through all (or the specified) forms and change all character
fields with an exact match. It will also fix diary-data and status-history
to the new login name. It will even change the User-form record.

The newest version of RRR|LoginConv handles the 60xxx fields if you have
user names in there.

Re: ITSM install: ASI import fails

2008-11-04 Thread Raido Oja
Tina,

Looks like you have not loaded the ITSM CMDB extentions. You will find them
in the celsdk/extensions folder on the install media. This is not the case
for me as these forms clearly do exist.

..and no, I have not been able to figure it out yet. I was able to manually
import forms from asi_deplapp.def on another server though, the only
difference being that the one where the import fails is unicode. I have
compared the BMC forms that make up the AST joins and they are an exact
match.

The obvious problem is that shafqatayaz becomes 123456 in the submitter

round it.

2008-11-04 Thread Bulls-n-Bears
I've checked in SQL Logs that the value of my current_field is being
passed on fine to the select Get_Hast('current value') from dual;.
Doesnt look like null value is a problem,

as the Filter qualification itself filters out null values.

checking out other suggestions on the thread.

 You may want to default the value in your get_hash function in Oracle

 Try something like

 for your function definition

 This way if Remedy does not have a value for current_field when you call
 the function it will use the default value

 Another thing you may look at is to see exactly what Remedy is sending
 to the database by looking in the SQL logs.

 my filter Set Fields SQL looks like this -

 the return value is assigned to the current field -
