My environment is:

Also, does remedy need to be re-installed after the upgrade?

Re: ERROR [330] You do not have write access to field - ITSM 7.1 Suite of Applications

2009-04-06 Thread Lammey, Peter A.
I think you need to add the person to the General Access group in the User form.
Usually the person is added to General Access once you set the person as
Support staff but we have on occasion have seen this group removed (possibly
when we term their account and have to re-enable a account).

After you add the group General Access to their Group List on the User form
then it should correct their issue.

We did exactly what you are doing (although we were on a different ARS patch) a
year or two ago and everything went smoothly. There is no need to reinstall

Yep, never do a != on a status field. Also if you go into the admin
tool and limit the number of records returned to 10k or so, then that
will reduce the memory growth. Do a status = open or something like
that, a not equal to will do a table scan every time.

How much memory does your system have, and how large does the arsystem
executable grow to? On the table that you are hitting, how many rows
are in that table, and how many open tickets are in this table? Lastly,
what query is your escalation using to find the open tickets?

CMDB Federation with CMDBf

2009-04-06 Thread Rick Cook
I am looking to Federate a 7.5 CMDB with another data store, and am looking
at using the CMDBf adapter that BMC provides (JDBC is not an option,
unfortunately). Does anyone have any tips to share regarding its use? The
manuals are kinda sparse on it, and the BMCDN has been NO help. I have read
about the history and architecture of the CMDBf protocol, but am looking to
see if someone has actually USED it, and how that turned out.

Re: Finding LArgest free block in a table grid

2009-04-06 Thread Nicky Madjarov
Your best bet is to maintain this information in separate content table (like
your file system does). When you occupy a block, you go and update your content
table. This way you can allways select MAX() and have the largest block. You
can certainly write some complicated sql statement to do so as well, however if
there are lots of shelves your query will take forever.

Adding an Incident field to SRM

2009-04-06 Thread SCOTT PHILBEN
All:

SRM 2.2 patch 002
ITSM 7.3 patch 009

I recently was tasked to add an Asset Tag field to SRM that would ask the
User for his Asset Tag and then pass the data to the Incident and create a
relationship to the affected asset (if there is one) on the Relationships Tab.
I was able to use some temporary display only fields to do the work (since I
didn't want to add any fields to the form) on the HPD:Help Desk form (plus a
couple of filters) but when I tried to create a field in SRM to capture the
data and pass it on to Incident, I got nothing but errors (ARERR 311 to be
exact). So I worked with BMC to find out why. It turns out that not only do you
have to configure SRM to use a specific field on the Incident form, which is
fairly not straightforward, you have to update the HPD:Help Desk staging form
(which sits between SRM and HPD:Help Desk) and update a Filter that pushes the
staging form data to Incident.

Needless to say, none of this is documented. And (shocker!) BMC doesn't even
follow its own recommendations when it comes to staging forms or filter
creation (they have the Matching IDs option for a reason).

So, to make it less painful for the next person, I wrote it all up in a little
document which I would like to attach to this post. But I can't. So if anyone
else out there would like a copy of the Word doc, let me know.

Window User Tool 7.5 and ARS 6.3

2009-04-06 Thread Marty.Thorin
Good afternoon:
We are in the process of migrating from ARS 6.3 to ARS 7.5. For
a short time we will have both systems running. We will be using the

We are worrying about the Windows user tool.

We would like to present the users with only one user tool. Has anyone
used the 7.5 Windows User Tool with a 6.3 server? Did you have any
problems?

You could build just one AL that is shared on all the forms you wish to
restrict on. Only way I can think of doing it, sure others will chime in

Report on # of users currently log in to server by client

2009-04-06 Thread Andrew Fremont
Hi,

Via the admin tool, we can see the list of users who are log in to the
server ; File--Licenses--Manage User Licenses.
However, we also want to know which client they are using- either Window
user tool or Web.

Is there a way we can get this information?

Thanks,
Andrew

What if the user logs on to both? I'm wondering what would be the value of this
information even if you could get it. You can get it by having some sort of a
check box information available for each kind of client, to be checked if the
user is on it nor not and set this during logon using workflow that can be
created on logon.

ARServer group and the ports that require load balancing

2009-04-06 Thread George Jungle
Guys,

Wondering if you can help me out.

We've got an issue with the Plug-in server running within a high available
environment of Remedy (2 Midtiers, 2 AR Servers, 2 DB Servers) with each
tier separated by a firewall. There is one load balancer in front of the
midtier servers and another in front of the AR Servers. So, basically the
AR Servers are running within a Server Group.

When we try to open up a Remedy form, such as the Server Information form,
we get an error saying :

ARERR [8939] The AR System Plug-In server is not responding. Cannot connect
to the system at this time. Contact your AR System Administrator for
assistance. : RPC: Timed out

Currently the only port that is load balanced is the TCP port that the users
access the AR Servers by.

Should we also need to load balance the Plug-In port? (9000)?

All help is appreciated.

Below are some emails I've dug up just from searching the web...

Thanks.

George

You probably need to review the BMC documents about plugins behind a VIP
or firewall without a portmapper. Using a Hardware Load Balancer with
BMC Remedy Action Request System 7.0 page 9, and others that I can't find
at the moment.

Here's an example of some lines from one of our ar.conf's (this one from a
server group, but relevant since we don't use portmapper either)

Plugin-Port: 9000
Register-With-Portmapper: F
TCD-Specific-Port: 8639
Server-Plugin-Alias: ARSYS.ARDBC.CONFIGFILE ARSYS.ARDBC.CONFIGFILE
ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: ARSYS.ARDBC.LDAP ARSYS.ARDBC.LDAP ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: ARSYS.ARDBC.PREVIEW ARSYS.ARDBC.PREVIEW ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: ARSYS.AREA.LDAP ARSYS.AREA.LDAP ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: ARSYS.ARF.WEBSERVICE ARSYS.ARF.WEBSERVICE
ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: BMC.ARF.CMDBCONSOLE BMC.ARF.CMDBCONSOLE ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: REMEDY.ARDBC.APPQUERY REMEDY.ARDBC.APPQUERY
ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: REMEDY.ARDBC.FLASHBOARD.FORM
REMEDY.ARDBC.FLASHBOARD.FORM ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: REMEDY.ARDBC.SERVER.ADMINISTRATION
REMEDY.ARDBC.SERVER.ADMINISTRATION ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: REMEDY.ARF.CAI REMEDY.ARF.CAI ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: REMEDY.ARF.CBDATA REMEDY.ARF.CBDATA ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: REMEDY.ARF.OMFOBJIE REMEDY.ARF.OMFOBJIE ksms562:9000
Server-Plugin-Alias: REMEDY.ARF.SLASETUP REMEDY.ARF.SLASETUP ksms562:9000

You may not need the alias lines, but you certainly need the Plugin-Port.

hth,
tony

RPC: Unable to receive

Hello listers.

ARERR [8760] Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System
Plug-In server : bmcstage : RPC: Rpcbind failure - RPC: Unable to receive

This is what I got in RUT when I move my ARS server behind the firewall,
uncheck Register with portmapper, assign static TCP port and shutdown
remedy portmapper service. And restart my windows box of course - a shut
in a head 8).

This error appears only in Problem Management Console on window open.
Other consoles - incident, asset, cmdb -
appear without any errors.

No errors in arerror, armonitor, arplugin logs and no errors on client
side logs too.

When I change environment back (no firewall restrictions at all) and move
to portmapper - everything is fine again.

Why (and which?) plugin try to register himself in portmapper? Or maybe
the cause is something else?
