Drift Management Job Fails - Plugin Server Terminated

2010-03-08 Thread Vivek Sanckar N
Dear Listers,

We have just installed Drift Mgmt 7.5 and the installation went on smoothly

We are able to run comparison and snapshot jobs, However occasionally job
gives out the status as Failed, with Status Description as Plugin Server
Terminated (under Job Run history)

Using Drift for the first time. So any help in this regard would be much
appreciated.

Regards,
Vivek

Re: Question about Atrium Core console on 7.6

2010-03-08 Thread Differ, Alfred W CTR NAVSEA, 210
No luck yet. The Atrium Console opens well enough and the little widgets for
the applications are visible and lead to where they go. The product catalog
one even works. So does the Reconciliation one. 8)

I am running Tomcat 6.0.24 and java 1.6.0_18.

I'm thinking I messed up a path statement somewhere or a port is blocked
somewhere. They run things tight around here. Does the atrium core console
talk to the app-tier on a special port (besides the plug-in or regular one used
by the thick client)?

Marcelo,
If this is still relevant...see these filters:
CHG:CSG:NewApprovalNotification-ParseApprovers-NotifySupport`!
CHG:CSG:NewApprovalNotification-ParseApprovers-NotifyNonSupport`!

These need update. In addition, you will have to update...add really...filters
that look for the field tag (such as #field tag#) for the new field(s) and
replace them with the value sent by the above filters. Similar to this filter
you mentioned:
NTE:SHR:TranslateNotificationMessageAPR_135

Good luck.

Server recommendation

2010-03-08 Thread Dennis Ruble
Hello list,
We are planning an AR System/ITSM 7.5/7.6/... upgrade and replatforming
project for next fiscal year. I'd like to hear any hardware
recommendations you might have for our move to Wintel.

Current situation is this:

* - AR System 7.0.1
* - ITSP 4.0(pre-atrium CMDB)
* - 500 incidents/day
* - 20 changes/day
* - 1 problem/day
* - 50,000 CI's in CMDB
* - 200 concurrent users
* - AR System server is HPUX PA-RISC SD32B with 3 cores and 16Gig of RAM
* - Database is Oracle on seperate HPUX Itanium SD and will remain in this
configuration.

Can anyone recommend a Wintel configuration for the AR System server to
replace the HPUX server?

Thanks in advance,

Dennis Ruble

Re: Intergation Of Remedy with MS Outlook

2010-03-08 Thread Rabi Tripathi
Sumit, I would take it to be similar to opening a web page and play with the
"mailto:"; URL syntax to encode "from", "subject" etc. Default mail program in
the client should open up. See this page for URL examples:
http://email.about.com/library/misc/blmailto_encoder.htm

On windows, Run Process with the following value will open the default mail
client:
start mailto:

You can try it manually on a command line. If you have Mid-tier, this won't
work, as Run Process doesn't work on the web. Plus it of course won't work on
non-windows machines.

One trick I would try is to create a "View Field" (hidden), and set it to
"mailto:...";. It should cause the default mail client to open up in Remedy
User, in any browser, in any OS.

If your users are Windows/Remedy User only, you could also try DDE/OLE instead,
but the view field solution is the best in my opinion.

Lastly, why Outlook? If they just want to be able to send email from within
Remedy, have them type the values on a remedy form and use Notify action on a
filter.

I just saw your subsequent comment on ARSLIST. This part of the menu qual is
likely tripping you:
'Form Name' = $SCHEMA$

You need to add records on the form with 'Form Name' field set to name of the
other form you are trying to have the menu work on.
The easiest way may be to export the records on the form that have 'Form
Name="HPD:HelpDesk", open the exported file in a text editor and do a
search/replace to change "HPD:HelpDesk" to name of the other form. Then
reimport the file, making sure you don't map the request id (or entry id,
whatever the field with ID 1 is called).

I posted this over in BMCDN:

I am trying to reuse the status reason field from IM in a form in order to
build some dynamic workflow. I copied over the field and verified that the
menu was the same. I also copied over the hidden status reason field and
duplicated the 2 Active Links (that I could find) that were related to these
fields. For some reason I can't get the status reasons to load when I set my
status to Pending or Resolved. The ALs were:
HPD:SHR:OnDisplay_100_SetTempStatusReason and HPD:SHR:SetStatusReason_100.

What am I missing? Why is it these issues don't exist with other fields like
the Assigned Support Group fields?

Any help would be great!

And then another block with the error reply after I OK the error message

The cmdbjni21.dll library is in that directory on my mid-tier and the path
variable includes that directory (windows 2003 as my OS).

So... What is 'remoting service'?
Does this look like an error in some other dependent library? Is the
midtier trying to set up something else?
If I do this thing a few times I eventually get complaints that it can't
initialize a CMDBProxy class (NoClassDefFound exception).

Anyone have any ideas on how I can put and end to this error? What is the
viewer trying to do when I open the class manager and get this message?

Question about Atrium Core console on 7.6

2010-03-08 Thread Differ, Alfred W CTR NAVSEA, 210
Hi all,

I'm trying to open the class manager on the Atrium Core console (ITSM 7.6) and
getting an unsatisfied link error. I've looked through the tomcat error log
and the first exception confuses me a bit. I don't know what the console is
doing, so I figure I better ask. 8)

[Flex] [ERROR] [Message.General] Exception when invoking service:
remoting-service
With message: Flex Message (flex.messaging.messages.RemotingMessage)
operation = get Root Classes
clientID =
destination = cmdbclassservice
messageID =
timestamp =
timeToLive =
body = null
hdr(DSId) =
hdr(DSEndpoint) = my-secure-amf
exception: flex.messaging.MessageException: D:\Program Files\BMC
Software\ARSystem\midtier\WEB-INF\lib\cmdbjni21.dll: Can't find dependent
libaries

I get a stack trace after this complaining about a Root Cause:
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: [exception message from above]

And then another block with the error reply after I OK the error message dialog
(nothing new here).

The cmdbjni21.dll library is in that directory on my mid-tier and the path
variable includes that directory (windows 2003 as my OS).

So... What is 'remoting service'?
Does this look like an error in some other dependent library? Is the midtier
trying to set up something else?
If I do this thing a few times I eventually get complaints that it can't
initialize a CMDBProxy class (NoClassDefFound exception).

Anyone have any ideas on how I can put and end to this error? What is the
viewer trying to do when I open the class manager and get this message?

I wanted to see if there is any undocumented best practice for a 7.5

miss out on anything and run into problems.

Re: Refreshing the DB for ITSM 7.1.0

2010-03-08 Thread Sabyson Fernandes
Hi Shyam,

Sorry, I mis-understood what you were looking for. I have worked at a few sites
where the DB copy was mainly done so that the test environment had production
data to be tested with. Sorry, but at least you know of rrrchive if you didn't
earlier.

For DB copies with ITSM 7.0.3 (AIE, Incident, Problem, Change, Asset and CMDB)
these are the tables that I am aware of that hold server name references. I had
written a stored procedure that took a search string and traversed through all
tables and columns within the tables of a specific database and returned the
table name followed with the column name. This gave me the tables and columns
referenced below.

Report (field name: Server)
BMC.CORE.CONFIG:BMC_FederatedInterface_ (Field name: ARServerName)
EIE:ApplicationSettings (field name: Help File Path)
EIE:DataExchange (field names: Instance Name, zTmpInstanceAlias)
EIE:BackUpLoadFlag (field names: Host, Internal Instance Name,InstanceName)
EIEORA:RuleHelper (field name: Path) - holds the path to the EIE bin directory
so may or may not have the server name referenced here depending on how you did
your install.
CAI:AppRegistry (field name: Server)

In addition to these there are also meta-data tables like field_table etc. that
may need server references removed.

Hope this helps.

Re: Reusing the Status Reason field

2010-03-08 Thread Lyle Taylor
If you follow the existing implementation, it's not more dynamic now than if
you manually enter all the values in a drop-down list, because that's really
how it's implemented. Any time you want to add or change a value to the
existing list, you both need to add it to the config form, and add it to the
hidden status reason field, which is a selection field. If you fail to add a
value to the selection field, you can't use it. It will show up in the menu,
but it won't save.

I would recommend not trying to implement it the same way that ITSM does it.
Instead, figure out the essentials of the menu qualification, adapt it for your
new form, and drop the hidden status reason field. Don't copy over the
workflow related to setting the hidden status reason field. If you display the
visible status reason character field as a drop down list, then you won't have
people entering invalid values in the field.

Yes, I just copied the fields to a different form, didn't alter IM at all. I
looked at the SYS:Status Reason Menu Items form, and I am still trying to
figure out why the menu won't load. If I load a different menu it works, but
is missing some of the items I need from the Incident form. I could load the
values into a drop-down list manually, but it wouldn't be very dynamic that way.

I think he's trying to add the status reason functionality to a completely
different form, not repurpose its use on Incident.

Robert, have you looked at the "SYS:Status Reason Menu Items" forms. The
records there control the values in the display-only version of the menu (and
are form-specific) and have to match the attributes of the hidden field.

Robert Fults

We use it to assign Groups and Technicians. We have a "Work Action" field
with options like, "Assign to Group", "Assign to Tech Same Group", "Assign to
Tech New Group", etc. Based on what you select, a list of groups, techs
or groups/techs appear.

This is the only place that I can think of where we display a list.

Re: Refreshing the DB for ITSM 7.1.0

2010-03-08 Thread John Kelley
We refresh our DEV and TEST environment frequently.
We want our Test environment most like production to reduce issues, come
time moving DEV customizations over it makes it more thorough.
If they fail in TEST they will fail in production, or at least you can
get your steps noted and mastered for the import to production.
Here are the steps I take.

Steps prior to a DB refresh
1: Export the Licenses to a file.
2: Note Email mailbox configurations and settings. (server user and
password, etc)

Steps after a DB refresh
1: Copy Production REMEDY DB to Server B on correct port (our Oracle DBA
does this step)
2: Restart AR Service
3: Reimport the correct ARSYSTEM.LIC file from Backup License file done
in Steps prior to a DB refresh.
4: Change the Server Name information on forms CAI Application Registry,
CMS Configuration Management
5: Change AR system Email Mailbox Configuration ? Change the incoming
configuration server user to correct Test or DEV mail user and password.
Double check the Outgoing mailbox address to make sure it reflects the
TEST email instead of PROD.
6: SYS:Attachments form ? Change the Survey Link to show correct server
names.
7: AP:Notifications - Check any custom notifications with Server links..
8: EIE:Applications Settings form
9: Restart all Services that are automatic.
Don't forget Midtier
10: Log into the Midtier Configuration console and Flush Cache.

Hopefully this helps.

Shyam,

There is no real formal list to such forms if you ask me. It really
depends on what you got installed.

I wish every application really did have that kind of a list *you would
think that this should have been a part of admin documentation* but
welcome to the real world. The real world is that there are some obvious
areas you should be looking at, in terms of form data such as AIE
configuration SRM configuration, etc.

The rest is like fire fighting. Fire fighters do not get a documented list
of steps you should be performing to complete their rescue operation. Its
just enough to expect problems for a while - you can only hope that the
precautions you have taken based on your knowledge and that of what others
had to share so far have minimized the occurrences of those problems.. A
similar thread this month listed some data forms.. That should be a good
beginning point to reduce these problems by about 75 to 80%. Maybe 100..

But it never helps to screen definitions by taking def files and looking
for hard coded server references even while you nail things down on
application /configuration data. In my experience XML exports are ideal
for this, as you can replace server references found with @ directly
without really having to account for the string length. In fact I rely
solely on XML exports ever since I realized with one of the team I have
worked with in the past, that it is a really safe and ideal way of doing
so..

Hope this helps

Cheers

Customizations to the app are best moved with Migrator. You can build a
fresh test server, migrate the customizations to it from development or
production, then apply a patch or run an upgrade to see how it affects
those customizations. Then later you can apply the same patch (or
upgrade, but good luck with that) to development or production and then
migrate the customizations back over from test.

Typically I refresh development from production by restoring the db from a
backup of production. Then there is a LONG list of places you have to
update the clone on development to remove server and mid-tier references
to the production environment (and remove notifications that are waiting
to go out). Next

Hey,
We have done this to 4 different desktops/laptops -- all are the same (2
issues).
Tried to bring up the java console so we can see what is going on.. did not
really do anything.
Found a firewall prompt that java was not allowed and unblocked it.. but it
is doing this everytime.
Also we do not have command prompt tools even as admin, it is in a different
location.. so there are a few possible issues here. The same patches install
on a non-hardend desktop/laptop -- like mine at home just fine.. We have
tried Patch 3 and patch 4.. 1 person tried patch 0 but no difference.

strange.. It must be something simple..

Re: Filter error when adding Remedy user SOLVED

2010-03-08 Thread Martin, Dwayne
Thanks for the suggestion, Joe. It sparked another idea.
True, the offending filter wasn't in the Admin Tool filter list, but it was in
the User form Login Name field Related Workflow. So I opened it and tried
disabling it, but still got the "Form not found" error. (You can't even
disable a filter if it can't find the form it is pushing to.) Fortunately I had
exported a definition of the SHR:People form before deleting it, so I
re-imported it, disabled the filter, deleted SHR:People, and now I can add new
users to the User form.
Thanks again,
Dwayne

Try deleting that record from the filter table and all other entries
filter_ tables that have the same filter Id and then cache the server..

However before doing this, backup the database just in case that breaks
something else..

Also since you encountered an error such as this, I would run queries on the
database to check of there are other workflow objects that exist that are tied
to schemaid's that do not exist, and evaluate on case to case basis whether
they ought to be deleted.

However if you find that the workflow you find is shared between forms, some of
which still exist on the server, things change a little.. Make sure that your
query considers that it is querying for filters that are not shared between
forms. Clean those first.. If there are workflow objects that are shared and is
referencing a deleted form, things change a little... Then you need to only
remove the mapping record.. and not any other..

Dear List,
We owned the Asset Management module and deleted it, but its ghost lives on.
Now when we add a new user to the User form, we get "ARERR [303] Form does not
exist on server."
The filter log shows that "COM:PGP-SyncUserToPeopleAdd01" is trying to push the
new user to the "SHR:People" form which no longer exist. But
"COM:PGP-SyncUserToPeopleAdd01" is not in the Admin tool list of filters. It
is, however, in the Filter table.
Would there be any unforeseen consequences of deleting the filter record from
the Filter, plus the other filter tables?

1. Go to c:\temp & delete any temp files left by the Remedy

2. If it still doesn't work, repeat step 1. Copy the install
