catch the email before it is deleted

2012-07-12 Thread Remedy Maniac

dear list,

when an error occurs on email submission, the Email engine deletes the
message and logs an entry in AR System Email Error Logs.

I need to catch the email before it is deleted.
Is there a (simple) way to do so?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Do you mean deleted from the mail server?

You should have a copy in AR System Email Messages, right?

When a record has been created in AR System Email Messages, the original
mail is always deleted.

You might configure your email system to keep a copy of all emails in
another mailbox.

ITSM 7.6.04 Add Task form to Application List using the Landing Console

2012-07-12 Thread Phil
Hi,

I want to add the Task (Search) form to the Application list and make the
Task form open within the Landing Console like other forms.

Ok, I can make the Task form an Entry Point and then open it via the
Applications List but it then doesn't open in the Landing Console.

Looking at how other forms open via the Application list such as Work Order
Search I can't follow the workflow below. What I don't understand is what
triggers the Active Link WOI:WOI:AppListEntryPoint_Search as there are no
execution options.

I assume this Active Link must be triggered by an Active Link Guide but I
can't see this anywhere, is this trigger by something else?

Thanks

if i am not wrong in arsystem email messages configuration form you have an
option for setting outgoing mail do u want to delete or not
if set to know the mail remains in the email message form even if there is
error in transmitting it.

if the option is NO and still the message gets deleted then you probably
need to check for the workflow.

Hi Howard!

We've been using CRExport for years and have even developed a Remedy App around
it that schedules reports to be run and uses an escalation to kick off the
reports and optionally mail them out in .pdf attachments to users using the AR
Email engine.

Happy Friday to all,

I have a request to find a cheap way to run the BMC provided OOB crystal
reports that came with 7.6.4.

Since we use Hyperion for reporting, we do not need to create any new crystal
reports and are not looking to print them. Just run them and save off the file.

So I am looking for a cheap way of getting around the requirement to buy and
then build a crystal server.

Too bad that we can't use the user tool in ITSM 7.6.4.

Any ideas?

Also a Friday thought,

Only Robinson Crusoe had everything done by Friday. ~Author Unknown

Take care,

911: Trusted Dataset CMDB _ADDM 7.6.4

2012-07-12 Thread KathyMorris
Still stuck. Does anyone know how to create a trust relationship with the
BMC.ADDM dataset in CMDB 7.6.4? I have looked in several of the BMC
technical guides and what is written is not working. The guide states
Trusted datasets is listed in the Admin Console (Custom tab) under
Foundation - Product/Operational Catalogs - and I do not see Trusted
datasets there. Does something have to be installed first? Is there a
permission setting that I am missing. I checked the BMC forums - and no info
was there.

There is a form called PCT:Trusteddataset - so trusted datasets are
associated with the Product Catalog application. At first I was wondering
if certain patches or some software from the Product Catalog has to be
configured first in order to build the trust relationship. However, we have
another Test dataset that was set up as a trust already so I am thinking
we are configured correctly.

Interestingly, the BMC.ADDM dataset does show up in Atrium Core, when I try
to create a reconciliation job.

Hi,

We created the dataset BMC.ADDM as writeable. We are trying to build the

Application Administrator Console, I do not see 'Trusted Datasets' under the
Products/ Operational Catalogs section as described in the manual. I am
wondering why. When I open the 'Trusted Dataset' form directly - I do not
see the BMC.ADDM dataset that was created. I looked in NE:Dataset options

Any ideas why this is happening.

Issues w/round robin assignments not working

2012-07-12 Thread Rose Mancinelli
Server 7.0.01 patch 003
SunOS 5.10
Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 - 64bi

We're having issues with round robin/auto assignment for indivuduals in groups
that are
specified in the Support Group form to have auto assignment turned on.

Auto assignment/round robin has stopped assigning individuals for the groups
specified.

When I restart ARS, it starts assigning individuals again.

When I add a new group to be set up for auto-assignment, it never works for
them. Only
previously configured groups work.

Does anyone have any advice on the assignment engine configurations? I'm not
sure why
this has stopped working properly. We don't have Remedy support and they rely
heavily
on this round robin feature.

Thanks in advance.

Hi William

Thanks for sharing your experience. A couple of questions these parameters need
to set in all the AR Server or only on the secondary servers.

Secondly should be take the primary server out of the server group before
upgrading or it doesn't matter till we select overwrite during primary server
upgrade and server group option during secondary server upgrades.

Thanks

Okay, a couple of things..I have been in the middle of this in Linux and
experienced every problem imaginable.  Fortunately we now have a good path to
work from.

First, if you are upgrading in a server group only the primary server should be
running when ARS is upgraded.  All others should have the services COMPLETELY
STOPPED before you run the installer.

Second, you need to be setting two environment variables (usually by editing
the .profile for the user).  These lines need to go in the .profile:

BMC_AR_LOADAPP_SKIP=TRUE
BMC_LOADAPP_SKIP=TRUE
export BMC_AR_LOADAPP_SKIP
export BMC_LOADAPP_SKIP

This forces the ARS installer - and ALL of the of the application installers
(with the partial exception of CMDB) to only put the binaries on the other
server group servers.

This is awesome because your install time for something like ITSM goes from 10
hours down to 15 minutes.

Enjoy ...

Hi List

We are trying to upgrade our environment (5 ARS in a server group mode) with
email engine installed on all ARS servers. The problem we see is upgrading the
secondary servers if we select email engine along with the ARS server in the
server group mode.

Below are the steps we are following and the installer doesn't allow us to
install engine engine on the secondary server as it says port 1100 (this is
port on which email engine is running in our environment) is in use

- Stop all servers expect the primary server
- take the primary server out of the server group and we upgrade it along with
email engine - this works fine
- Take the secondary servers out server group - run the installer select
server group upgrade mode along with email - this gives us an error that port
1100 is already in use

We have tried stopping the email engine on the primary server still the
installer doesn't allow us to upgrade the email engine.

Any ideas what could be the issue or is there a different approach to upgrade
a server group environment along with email//

Please suggest

Environment details
ARS - 7.1 patch 5( server group of 5 servers) OS - Solaris 9 DB - Oracle

Re: how to change RMI port of email engine

2012-07-12 Thread jaya munjal
Hi Axton

Thanks.. yes that was an issue. In our pre prod environment we have multiple
ARS Servers and email engine running, therefore we got this issue. Once we
stopped the other email service and change the port it works.

Cheers

You can check if the port is in use using netstat.  For example. to see if port
1100 is available:

[user@server AREmail]$ netstat -na |grep 1100
      *.1100               *.*                0      0 49152      0 LISTEN

If you get a line back that says LISTEN, it means that the port is already in
use.

If you try to use a port that is already in use, I expect that either the email
engine will not start or it will start but not respond to admin requests.

Hi,

Yes, we can change RMI Port in emaildeamon.properties.

One of the cause of error could be new port number. Please check if new port
number is in use.

Also please check below steps.
1. Stop the AR Server services
2. Perform the changes in emaildeamon.properties file and save the file
3. Start AR Server services

Can we change char size of Organisation field across ITSM

2012-07-12 Thread Vikram
hi All,

I have a requirement where I need to change the char size of Organisation field
in ITSM from 60 to 254 chars. Is there any way where we can do this in one
place and it would reflect in all 300+ forms where this field is used.

It would be a bad task to do manually, do anyone know a tweak for this or
perhaps a utility for the same. There are 4 -5 such OOTB widely used fields
which we need to increase size of.

Thanks in advance,
Vikram

Jaya,

I would enable plugin logging through the ar.conf file. it sounds as if the
plugin is having issues connecting/communicating. Review all of your plugin
server alias lines in the ar.conf as well, to ensure that the server name is
correct (short name not FQDN) for all plugins. Additionally, double-check
the armonitor.conf to see that the path to java is correct in all the lines.
After that, restart the system and dig into the plugin log files to see what
is failing.

Good luck,

Re: 911: Trusted Dataset CMDB _ADDM 7.6.4

2012-07-12 Thread Peter Romain
I assume you want the CIs arriving in the ADDM dataset to create product
catalog entries automatically?

Personally I don't recommend this but it just depends on your processes to
fix the bad product catalog entries that arrive:

- proactively by them failing normalisation and not being allowed to be
reconciled then you fixing this using aliases or adding new product catalog
entries

- allowing the product catalog entries to be created automatically and
reconciled then weeding out the bad ones and updating the CMDB CIs

To allow CIs in a dataset to create product catalog entries you select the
'Allow new product catalog entry' option for the dataset in the
Normalisation Engine configuration.

Cheers

Peter

Jaya,
I agree with Matt, I've had this problem before and found the solution through
the plugin logs. The problem was that there was stuff on the form that didn't
work properly. I corrected by manually re-importing the Server Administration
def file from the upgrade and telling it to delete extra fields/views, this
cleaned up the form and allowed it to work properly.

Re: catch the email before it is deleted

2012-07-12 Thread patchsk

You should be able to find a form with name AR System Email Error Messages,
which is an exact replica of AR System Email Messages form, with additional
feature(button) to copy entry to AR System Email Messages form.
If you do not find it you can re import this form from the def file in the
email engine install folder.
If I understand correctly you want to catch email errors and reprocess them
as they occur without have to resend the email from end user.
We have a similar things.
We have monitors setup on Email log files and then this form AR System
Email Error Messages.
Anytime the monitor detects a new line or a new entry then we get alerted.
Then we go to AR System Email Error Messages form and look for the error
entry, correct the data and then click the button Copy To AR System Email
Messages Form. It will create a regular entry in Email form and email
engine will pick it up in the next pooling.

Re: Abydos: srd not showing up..

2012-07-12 Thread Kerman, Thomas
Hi Patrick,

Just to make sure I understand your issue, this is the procedure for creating
an Abydos based SRD..

1. You create an Abydos process, n the process properties, the request
field is set to SRM:Request.

2. Put the process into Live

3. On the SRM Service Catalog Manager console, create a new SRD

4. Give it a name and description

5. Click 'Select' to open up the select process dialog

6. You should see the 'Use Designer Process' checkbox in the top right of
the dialog. Checking this should give you a list of your available Live
processes for SRM

7. Select your process from this list.

Can you confirm that having following these steps you are unable to see the
process you created in this list?

2012-07-12 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Serouche,

You didn't state what version ARS. The AR System Email Error Messages form
was introduced in the 7.6.x version of ARS.

Unless you have custom workflow the default escalation leaves inbound emails in
the AR System Email Messages form for a couple of days before deleting them.
The original email is an attachment on the Advanced Options - Attachment
Alternatives tab

You should be able to find a form with name AR System Email Error Messages,
which is an exact replica of AR System Email Messages form, with additional
feature(button) to copy entry to AR System Email Messages form.
If you do not find it you can re import this form from the def file in the
email engine install folder.
If I understand correctly you want to catch email errors and reprocess them as
they occur without have to resend the email from end user.
We have a similar things.
We have monitors setup on Email log files and then this form AR System Email
Error Messages.
Anytime the monitor detects a new line or a new entry then we get alerted.
Then we go to AR System Email Error Messages form and look  for the error
entry, correct the data and then click the button Copy To AR System Email
Messages Form. It will create a regular entry in Email form and email engine
will pick it up in the next pooling.

retrieving enumerated (selection list) ID integer instead of value in filter action

2012-07-12 Thread Goodall, Andrew C

My integration partner needs the urgency and impact value ID passed to
them instead of the value/alias character string.

How do I do this in a filter action?

$urgency$ will always give me the value associated with ID=2000
(2-High), but I want it to return the ID value 2000.

Do I have to set urgency to a temp integer field first, to get the ID?

I would have thought it would have been something simple like
$urgency$.ID

AR Server License and HostID Question

Re: AR Server License and HostID Question

2012-07-12 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
While I can't answer the Win2k8 part I do know that some NIC adapters (I know
the Intel ones do) have the ability to accept a Locally Administered Address
for the MAC address. It is usually located in the Advanced tab of the
properties of the Network Adapter device.

** Hi All -

I am getting confusing information about the Remedy HostID for license keys. We
are running on Wintel 2K8 and VM ESX platform as a guest OS. The HostID that
shows up in the top right corner of the License screen is 00505688. In the
properties of the active NIC for the AR server, it reads: 0050568800FF. Does
Remedy interpret the FF as 00 in its HostID value? Our support partner is
telling me that we can enter any HostID into the NIC properties, which I don't
see as an available option.

Yep. We also had the same issue after upgrade to 7.5 from 7.01. Re-import

I agree with Matt, I've had this problem before and found the solution
through the plugin logs. The problem was that there was stuff on the form
that didn't work properly. I corrected by manually re-importing the Server
Administration def file from the upgrade and telling it to delete extra
fields/views, this cleaned up the form and allowed it to work properly.

 Hi List

We are upgrading our ARS 7.1 to ARS 7.6.04 SP2 , the installer runs fine
but we have noticed that most time the server information becomes blank.
The services come up and the host id is shown on the license console. But
server information remains empty, we have tried restarting ar server as
 well as ar plugin services.

But still the server information remains blank, anyone experience the same
 issue.

 ARS 7.1 upgrade to ARS 7.6.04 SP2

 DB - Oracle 10.2

 OS - Solaris 9

 Thanks

Re: retrieving enumerated (selection list) ID integer instead of value in filter action

2012-07-12 Thread Goodall, Andrew C
Thanks, that did work (force section into integer/numeric field).
Found another solution too - go against a View - the DB value is the integer,
but then all the date fields are integers too - :S

Andrew,
I believe if you do as you suggested and set it to an int field you will get
what you are looking forbut I also agree that a .ID type of thing would be
beneficial :)maybe submit an RFE...I would vote for it.

My integration partner needs the urgency and impact value ID passed to them
instead of the value/alias character string.

How do I do this in a filter action?

$urgency$ will always give me the value associated with ID=2000 (2-High), but I
want it to return the ID value 2000.

Do I have to set urgency to a temp integer field first, to get the ID?

I would have thought it would have been something simple like $urgency$.ID

VM Processors, one or two?

2012-07-12 Thread Drew Shuller
Good afternoon everyone. We're in the process of building a virtual server
for a very small ITSM/CMDB/ADDM installation. BMC's hardware docs state
that the server should have two processors. We're thinking that we can get
by with only one. Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

Re: VM Processors, one or two?

2012-07-12 Thread patchsk
The ITSM/CMDB is very bulky and there are lot of sub processes like
reconciliation,normalization, aie, fts etc...
I would suggest you follow BMCs hardware requirement to have better
performance in your production env.

The last time I spoke to our SA he told me that in a Virtual machine a CPU
cannot be compared to physical CPU on one to one basis.
In VM ESX basically the SA will create a number of logical partitions from
one physical CPU.
For example if the physical server has X cpus the SAs can logically make
them as 2X or 3X or nX virtual CPUs shared accross number of VMs carved out
from that physical server.
So only your SA can provide proper guidance on how good is your virtual
CPU depending on how he sized the VMs when he created those.
The good thing is even if you start with one and since there are VMs you
can easily add another cpu if you see bottleneck.

If it is version 7.6 or later the 4 Cores so one CPU with 4 cores will work it
also needs 4 GB RAM these should be dedicated. ADDM is an appliance and it will
need to have dedicated Cores and RAM, you need to check the ADDM manuals.

Re: VM Processors, one or two?

2012-07-12 Thread Axton
It all depends on how much time you want to spend waiting on the CMDB. You
can try 1, but if you start to hit timeouts (which, btw, probably means
some type of unrecoverable or a PITA to recover failure), I would suggest
you bump it up to 2. The installation process alone will probably time
out; if it does, start over completely, and bump it up to 2. With Remedy
and all the various subsystems, the server benefits greatly from multiple
CPUs, but the CPU's will spend a lot of time idle. Remedy, with the way it
is structured (esp. the ITSM subsystems), benefits from having lots of
resources available, when it needs them; otherwise it will appear to be
idle.

I can't believe that the server timeout (5 minutes, I think -- 300 seconds)
is still not a configurable parameter.

Re: 911: Trusted Dataset CMDB _ADDM 7.6.4

2012-07-12 Thread KathyMorris
Hi,

These are the exact steps that I was referring to.

The issue is that step #5 (below) does not exist.

It is not possible to select Trusted dataset is not under Product Catalog
- because it does not exist.

The question is why? Or where can I go to select the trusted dataset as
BMC.ADDM?

How do I create the trust relationship?

version 7.6.00 or later.

Checking the BMC.ADDM dataset configuration

When using ITSM 7.0 with a backwards compatibility patch, you also need to
ensure that the BMC.ADDM dataset is trusted. To do this:

1. Access the Home page from BMC Remedy User or a browser.

2. Access the Application Administration Console.

3. Go to the Custom Configuration page.

4. From Foundation, select Products / Operational Catalogs.

5. Select Trusted Datasets for Product Catalog and click Open.

6. Select the BMC.ADDM dataset for Dataset Name and save the record.

Hope that helps,

We are trying to build the
trust relationship between ADDM and the CMDB. However, when I log into the
Application Administrator Console, I do not see 'Trusted Datasets' under the
Products/ Operational Catalogs section as described in the manual. I am
wondering why. When I open the 'Trusted Dataset' form directly - I do not
see the BMC.ADDM dataset that was created. I looked in NE:Dataset options
also.

Any ideas why this is happening.

Weird Normalization behaviour

2012-07-12 Thread Anuj DUA
Hello All,

I have an issue while normalizing entries in product CI.

When I create entry through AIE tool, it does not normalize
When the same entries are created manually, they get normalize.

Here, I have checked all configurations -

1)Normalization configuration

2)NE:ProductAlias form

3)Product catalog entry

The entries created manually and via AIE are same. Kindly suggest what could be
the reason ?
