Is MS SMS around anymore? I haven’t heard of it since its version 2.0 and just assumed it died a slow death – that or evolved to something else and is perhaps an integrated part of their Asset Center solution?

Thanks for what has been sent. I remember that at one time there was talk about the use of MS SMS to monitor the health of a Remedy server. But that was a long time ago.

There is a Patrol Knowledge module for monitoring AR System that might be helpful – you can plug that into your BPPM/PNET server. See http://documents.bmc.com/supportu/documents/90/10/219010/Output/09186a33806c5fe1.htm. I am not sure that the version in this document is the latest though, the best way would be to check out the available downloads you have on EPD to see what else is there.

So any ideas?

Scenario: 2 linux ARS servers in a group, add 1 windows ARS server and add

The windows server will be the Integration part / and reconciliation/ and

Requirement to run Windows Powershell scripts to do work on Exchange server

 4) Under these assigned to one individual common to all 3

Is that it? I think you could do that if this individual assignee was a

Patrick,
I have never heard of a requirement that all nodes of a server group must
be on the same architecture. Due to the fact that the server group is just
signaling communication between the servers, I don't see it as a problem.
The only time you would come against issues would be if your DB was
something not supported by all platforms, like SQL Server for example, but
as long as all nodes can connect to the DB, I can't see how it would be an
issue.

Question concerning Attachment Pool field

2013-05-15 Thread Shellman, David
I'm seeing something odd with Developer Studio. Not sure it's me or something
with Dev Studio.

Using 8.1 Dev Studio against a 7.6.04 server (Windows app server running on

We have a form that has two Attachment Pool fields on the form. I'm attempting
to move the fields to a Tab on a page field. Drag and Drop doesn't seem to
allow me to move the fields there. On a regular field, I can right mouse click
and use the Move field option. However with an Attachment field, I don't see
that option.

I can create a new Attachment pool field on the tab but I can't seem to move an
exist one.

Am I missing something obvious?

Re: Question concerning Attachment Pool field

2013-05-15 Thread Shellman, David
Mark,

If someone could verify it's a version issue or if it's an issue that also
exists with 7.6.04 that would be great.

We went through several discussions with Jason Miller before we upgraded. He
was assured by Dev Studio developers that using a newer version is backward
compatible.

We needed to upgrade to 8.1 to get us out of a corner that we had been painted
into with 7.6.04 Dev Studio. 7.6.04 had several shortcomings once an
unmodified form had an overlay added. Since the forms were home grown from
previous versions of the AR System we decided to go to convert them to custom
forms. 7.6.04 Dev Studio does not have the ability to delete an Overlay which
needs to be done before converting.

Re: Question concerning Attachment Pool field

2013-05-15 Thread Shellman, David
LJ,

Thanks for the confirmation. I just played around a little bit and what I
found is equally odd.

Base Mode

If I create an Attachment field off a Panel field, I cannot drag the Attachment
field to the Panel field. However if I create the Attachment field on a Panel
field, I can drag it off the Panel Field and then back on the Panel field.

Best Practice Mode

Similar to above but I cannot move the Attachment field created on the Tab off
the Tab. Which also means I cannot move it to another tab.

Looks like I need to talk to support.

Re: Midtier over Internet

2013-05-15 Thread Jason Miller
It is not part of the Mid Tier installer. The configuration of Tomcat via
the installer is minimal. You will need to configure Tomcat SSL after the
Mid Tier installer. BMC ships Tomcat as a convenience for getting Mid Tier
up and running quickly but is not a BMC product. Personally I always
install Tomcat from http://tomcat.apache.org/ before installing Mid Tier.

There are a number of resources on the web regarding configuring Tomcat for
SSL.

Here is a document that talks about a few SSL/encryption details: Remedy 8
- Digital
Certificateshttps://communities.bmc.com/community/bmcdn/bmc_it_service_support/blog/2013/03/13/remedy-8--digital-certificates

It doesn't talk about Tomcat but many of the concepts are the same and some
of the command examples might be useful.

Give configuring SSL by using some of the resources on the web. If you run
into any issues let us know, somebody here has probably encounter it before
:)

Thanks for the support.
The requirement is basically as below,

1) That these tickets were assigned to A, B and C support groups

2) They had individual assignees at that time.

3) Reassigned to support groups D, E and F

4) Under these assigned to one individual common to all 3

4) Now want to assign to D, E and F with the assignee as like in A, B and C

I have understood:-

1) That these tickets were assigned to A, B and C support groups

2) They had no individual assignees at that time.

3) You reassigned to support groups D, E and F

4) Under these you assigned to one individual common to all 3

4) Now you want to reassign to A, B and C.

Is that it? I think you could do that if this individual assignee was a
member of A, B and C as well.

If that is not the case and you want it to go to some other individual
assignee, are they a part of D, E and F? If not they would need to be.

If I have completely misunderstood, then you may want to further clarify as
to what you meant by 'previous assignee'.

That is the whole reason for having server ranking operations, that can be
disabled on some and enabled on some so each server has specific 'roles' for
the lack of a better word. Maybe 'tasks' is a better word.

Talking about your specific need - to dedicate one of the two servers for
integrations, I wish it was possible to have server operations for web
services specifically dedicated to a server or group of servers. That way I
could assign a higher process timeout to that one or that group of servers.

I must have missed that somewhere that it's a custom form.

Even if it is a custom form or object, (non OOTB), but if it was
accidentally created from the base mode, it cannot be modified from the Best
Practice mode, without creating an overlay.

So if you or some other developer did use the base mode at some point, to
create either that panel or the attachment field in a base mode, you will
experience what you are right now.

Even if it is a custom form or object, (non OOTB), but if it was accidentally
created from the base mode, it cannot be modified from the Best Practice mode,
without creating an overlay.

So if you or some other developer did use the base mode at some point, to
create either that panel or the attachment field in a base mode, you will
experience what you are right now.

When something doesn't work right on a complicated form I create simple forms
so I can take some of the complexity out of the equation.

If you're on 7.6.04 (server and dev studio) give it a quick test. That would
at least take the question of 8.1 Dev Studio against a 7.6.04 server out of the

Only created the ticket with Support about 3 hours ago. I haven't heard back

Re: ARS 8.1 Server Groups - but 1 outside slightly

2013-05-15 Thread Terry Bootsma
A couple of suggestions related to your architecture, but not necessarily
your question:

If you are adding the additional server as part of your server group to
handle admin, recon, interfaces, etc. (ie. a lot of heavy liftingi), and if
you have a load-balancer in front of these remedy servers, I would suggest
that the load balancer does not route client traffic to this additional
server. That way, you don't get clients ending up on your additional server
and complaining about response times. Putting it in as part of the server
group allows it to fail over in the event of an issue, which is nice.

You can also install a local midtier on the additional server so that you
can connect to it via the mid-tier directly, instead of through the load
balancer. It also allows you to have server settings that do not
necessarily correspond to other servers in your server group (like: Max
Entries via GetList, Allow unqualified queries, etc...) which the Admins
and/or interfaces would like.

HTH.

Depending on how the company handles DNS you may need to add an external DNS
entry to point to the server or possibly just enable external advertisement
of an existing DNS record. Depending on your network architecture you may
need to add a NAT and/or PAT translation on the firewall in addition to
opening the ports. If you are using an RFC-1918 private address for the
server then a NAT translation will be required but if not then you should
just need to allow the ports. Your network security team may be taking care
of all this for you in the background but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Hopefully for security reasons your public mid-tier server doesn't have a
public IP address (at least that's my opinion).

Personally I prefer using a private IP on the mid-tier server and putting it
into a DMZ, then allowing the required back-end ports through the firewall
to the application server which would live in the secure zone behind the
firewall. You could even run a separate mid-tier server in the secure zone
for internal users so that they don't have to bounce into the DMZ; going
that route you would probably want to use the same DNS name but associate it
to a different IP for internal versus external DNS.

Setting the ports the midtier communicates over is maintained in the tomcat
instance, in the server.xml file. Look inside and find where the port 8080 is
configured, there is typically a commented out section where it shows 443
configuration. However you need to create your keystore for your certificates
to enable SSL. That is a tomcat specific configuration.

Re: Question concerning Attachment Pool field

2013-05-15 Thread Jason Miller
I would like for you to take that out of the equation too :)

Have you tried removing the field from the view and adding it back? I am
wondering if that will give you the ability to place it elsewhere before
saving it in the view.

I just thought about it. We have Dev Studio 7.6.04 on the app our 7.6.04

https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/ars8000/Server+groups+overview

There are two notes saying
Servers with in a server group need not have the same OS but workflow
commands for invoking programs should be compatible with all OS.
That means you need to start writing workflow run if ($OS$ = Linux ) etc..
The other one saying the ARSystem and Applications in all servers should be
of same version and patch.

There might be some issues with FTS because you are mixing up unix and
windows filesystems to store index files.

Interested to see how seamless it would work when you mix OS in Server
Group in reality.

Re: Question concerning Attachment Pool field

2013-05-15 Thread Jason Miller
Ran some tests... I verified this is an issue with forms created as Custom
in Best Practice mode and Dev Studio 8.0 and 8.1. I think it has something
to do with not being able to overlay the view of a Custom form.

Scenario 1
AR System 7.6.04 SP4

   1. Created Regular form in *Base mode with DS 7.6.04 SP4*
   2. Created tabbed Panel Holder (PH) with two panels
   3. Created Attachment Pool (AP) with one Attachment Field (AF) outside
   of the PH
   4. Dragged AP to first panel (p1) on PH
   5. Dragged AP to second panel (p2) on PH
   6. *Switched to DS 8.0 in Best Practice mode*
   7. Created Form and View overlay
   8. Dragged AP off of p2
   9. Dragged AP to p1
   10. Wanted to try Move Field To but is not option with AP
   11. *Switched to DS 7.6.04 in Base mode*
   12. Move Field To is still not an option

When I started this scenario I thought this machine was 8.1 but didn't very
until the end. Scenario 2 is with 8.1 to since that is the 8.x version in
question.

Scenario 2
AR System 7.6.04 SP4

   1. Using *7.6.04 SP4* deleted overly from scenario 1 returning form to
   state after steps 1 - 5
   2. *Switched to DS 8.1 in Best Practice mode*
   3. Created Form and View overlay
   4. Dragged AP off of p2
   5. Dragged AP to p1
   6. Wanted to try Move Field To but is not option with AP
   7. *Switched to DS 7.6.04 in Base mode*
   8. Move Field To is still not an option

Scenario 3
AR System 7.6.04 SP4

   1. Created Regular form in *Best Practice mode with DS 7.6.04 SP4*
   2. Created tabbed Panel Holder (PH) with two panels
   3. Created Attachment Pool (AP) with one Attachment Field (AF) outside
   of the PH
   4. Dragged AP to first panel (p1) on PH
   5. Dragged AP to second panel (p2) on PH
   6. *Switched to DS 8.1 in Best Practice mode*
   7. *Cannot drag AP off p2*
   8. Duplicate View
   9. Remove AP and AF from original default view
   10. Add AP and AF back to original default view, field goes back to p2
   11. *Switched to DS 8.0 in Best Practice mode*
   12. *Cannot drag AP off p2*
   13. *Switched to DS 8.1 in Best Practice mode*
   14. Converted form to Base
   15. *Cannot drag AP off p2*
   16. Converted form to Custom
   17. *Cannot drag AP off p2*
   18. Switch to *Best Practice mode with DS 7.6.04 SP4*
   19. *Dragged AP from p2*
   20. *Switched to DS 8.1 in Best Practice mode*
   21. Converted form to Base
   22. Created Overlay
   23. *Cannot drag AP to p2*
   24. *Created View Overlay*
   25. *Can drag AP to p2

Re: POP3 email issue

2013-05-15 Thread Marathe, Shivdatta
Hi Rajesh,

First thing this exception is seen when two email clients (may be email engine
or any other mail clients) are fetching mails from the same mailbox (here also
deleting that mail from mailbox.). This happens when email engine is reading a
mail from the mailbox and at the same time another mail client/email engine
deletes that mail and due to that mail contents are no longer available on that
mail server mailbox.
Following things you can check:
1. Two email engines are configured for same email mailbox (on exchange server)
as incoming mailbox on same or different servers.
2. The mailbox is configured on the email client using POP3 whose basic
configuration is to delete the email from the mail server after download.

Re: [URGENT] - Need to clean up all INC/CR/PBI/SR records and set the counter from xxxxxxx01

2013-05-15 Thread J Lander
What you are asking for is possible but a very large undertaking. It also
relies on the person having decent SQL and Remedy ITSM skills. The suggestions
from others in this post are worth considering.

I have performed the data cleanse a few times in the past and it is not a
pretty job. It involves performing thorough in-depth analysis of every single
form using SQL (to identify test data both for main forms and their supporting
ones) and documenting what exactly will be removed and what needs to stay.
Forms which have a customer facing Ticket ID (e.g.
Incident, Problem, Change etc) would have their counters reset to a value of
“1” in the arschema table but the rest would not. You would also need to take a
full backup of the database before any data is deleted (obviously). Foundation
and Configuration forms should not have any data removed.

Please note that even if you did perform the above, it takes days to do. The
analysis itself is probably 2-3 days. The cleansing is also a further 1-2 days.
Most of it also needs to be done via the User Tool/Mid-Tier. This allows for
any workflow to fire that keeps referential integrity.

What you should have done, and is the recommended best practise, is to backup
the database when it was ready for testing, perform testing, remediate defects,
test remediations, export workflow/data, restore database, apply fixes, backup
database, shake test, cancel shake test tickets, backup database, move on to
next testing phase. This way you would always have had a database which contain
very few tickets but all config, fixes. customisation etc. It's a little
cumbersome, but it prevents the issue you are facing now.

Cheers,

J

Affirmative. Looks like my advice to use DS 8.1 has steered you wrong.

It works as expected with DS 7.6.04 but does not with 8.1. I too get the

I would like for you to take that out of the equation too :)

Have you tried removing the field from the view and adding it back? I am
wondering if that will give you the ability to place it elsewhere before
 saving it in the view.

I just thought about it. We have Dev Studio 7.6.04 on the app our 7.6.04
servers so I can try it out.

When something doesn’t work right on a complicated form I create simple
forms so I can take some of the complexity out of the equation.

If you’re on 7.6.04 (server and dev studio) give it a quick test. That
would at least take the question of 8.1 Dev Studio against a 7.6.04 server
 out of the equation.

Only created the ticket with Support about 3 hours ago. I haven’t heard
back from them yet. I will keep folks posted with what I learn.

I thought you might have exhausted all possibilities.

This must be some sort of a bug then. I wish I had a 8.x system to try
it out on but I do not. Keep us updated on what you find out.

 ** **

What does BMC Support have to say about it?
