It's odd that a WS call would blow up the server - I suspect there's more
going on. Since it's the actual AR server blowing up it has to be trying

Hi Amit,

I think I need to take my statement back, I previously thought its plugin
related question that you are asking hence I decided to suggest you to have
webservice plugin running on a dedicated RPC socket (thread) like this,

plugins
plugin
  nameARSYS.ARF.WEBSERVICE/name
  pathelement type=locationC:/Program Files/BMC
Software/ARSystem/pluginsvr/websvcjava81_build001.jar/pathelement
  classnamecom.bmc.arsys.ws.plugin.WSPlugin/classname
  userDefined
   RPCRPC
   timeout40/timeout
  /userDefined
/plugin

However, I see you are looking for something from client side, as far as I know
inbound Webservice don't use a plugin. So there it's just client - midtier -
ARserver, no plugin involved. So whatever the client you are using to trigger
the call to remedy , that client should have RPC Thread aware. But in current
design I don’t see that is possible.

Kiran

Amit,
When a .NET application is consuming a Remedy web service, it is published
through Mid-Tier server. Mid-Tier has ability to specify a specific RPC
Port to communicate onso, the answer to your question is Yeseither
configure your Mid-Tier to use the specific RPC Port you want, or you could
even stand up a 'special' Mid-Tier just for Web Services, and utilize this
Mid-Tier to specify the RPC Port in question...

Either way, yes, you can do exactly what you are looking for.

the call to remedy , that client should have RPC Thread aware. But in current

Time to Install ITSM 8.1.2

2015-03-09 Thread Tanner, Doug
Dear List,
Looking for some feedback on Installation times for ITSM Suite.
I know there are a lot of variables and different system configurations, etc.
I installed CMDB, Atrium Integrator and then ITSM (8.1.2) suite over the
weekend on a Sandbox. Just trying to gauge if my installation time was
typical/average.

My Question for the List - If you have installed ITSM 8.1.2 -
How long did the install take?

P.S. Are there any tips/tricks that can reduce the installation time?

Thanks in Advance, Doug

2015-03-09 Thread Abhijit Hendre
I suggest to enable API SQL logs and see what's happening there when you
try to consume web service. It may be possible that fast list threads are
over utilized , in that case you will need to increase number of threads
for 390620 390635 RPC queue. You can use log analyzer to understand
thread utilization.

You need to turn on logging and find out what that person is actually
doing with the web service. You need to make sure their data is all coming
 in formatted correctly too.

It's odd that a WS call would blow up the server - I suspect there's more
going on. Since it's the actual AR server blowing up it has to be trying
to process something that it really can't handle.

Dear List,
Looking for some feedback on Installation times for ITSM Suite.
I know there are a lot of variables and different system configurations, etc.
I installed CMDB, Atrium Integrator and then ITSM (8.1.2) suite over the
weekend on a Sandbox. Just trying to gauge if my installation time was
typical/average.

My Question for the List – If you have installed ITSM 8.1.2 –
How long did the install take?

P.S. Are there any tips/tricks that can reduce the installation time?

Thanks in Advance, Doug

Unable to specify Company for uploading Location, Support Group, People DMT sheets v8.1

2015-03-09 Thread Terri Lockwood
Has anybody else run into this? Apparently in 8.1 BMC removed the Company
field from the foundation data spreadsheets. They say

The Data Management loads are single tenant. The Company is driven from the
Data Management job. All of the data that is loaded by the Data Management job
is associated with the company that you selected when you created the Data
Management job. This means that you must create a separate spreadsheet for each
company. In addition, you must create a separate Data Management job for each
company spreadsheet. This is a design decision taken by Product Development
based upon a few security concerns. With 8.1, a security vulnerability was
closed by removing the direct ability to allow update to companies other than
the one in which the user running UDM resides. This was deliberate. This
prevents the risk that a user may insert/modify records in companies to which
they should have no access to.

That's great if you are single tenant but for those of us who are VERY
multi-tenant (thousands of companies) it's a problem. I don't want to have to
load this data 3000 times so any suggestions are appreciated ;)

Re: Naked ARS (was: The ~! for filter names)

2015-03-09 Thread Omega LiPO
Totally agreed that the strength of remedy is the workflow engine. BMC just
don't see the value, which is sad.

I am searching for an equivalent product for SME. Was thinking the remedyForce
was one ... But.. From this group, it is not.

Sigh

** Hello List,

Looks like I'm not the only one with the same idea . :-D.

I have been working with Remedy since 1997 (yes, the previous century ...),
beginning with version 2.3. Like everybody, I have seen AR System replaced
by ITSM/CMDB and I cried out loud

I have recently been working on projects more at the ITIL level, where the
supporting tool had already been chosen. This gave me the opportunity to look
at a number of other ITSM software packages, both from the end-user point of
view and under the hood (admin and developer). As far as I am concerned, AR
System is miles ahead compared to other tools, while the ITSM/CMDB sold by BMC
is just another app on the market.

If I may add something along the same line: applications such as ITSM8 have
become too complexe (and too big) for the European market (where companies are
not as large as in the US). I know for certain 3 customers who tried to move
from a previous version of Remedy ITSM to ITSM8 and after a year of effort gave
up and have now completely dropped Remedy :-( :-(. And there are more going
down that path as we speak. If large applications make sense for large
companies, it requires less consulting time to build a small ITSM app than to
configure a large one, so offering AR System as a workflow engine makes a lot
of sense to me (perhaps with a basic HelpDesk Template ).

Also, the ITIL market has offered a flourishing field to do business the last
15-20 years or so (remember back in 1998-1999, when Remedy had a 50% market
share ). I think that the market is now mature, and all customers have
what they need, so propose AR System as a more general workflow engine could be
a step to diversification

Cheers,

Kaïs.

Hi All,
The decent workflow engine what we called ARS is backbone of these suits and It
was really disheartening when BMC announced ARS will not be sold individually.
I mean this a great platform where we can design custom apps and more modular
apps that's help any organization. I still feel ARS should be sold solely, it
was and it is the best platform for creating custom applications quickly.
My vote is for naked ARS.

AMEN!
I can't belive how short sighted bmc has become in regard to pushing itsm/cmdb
and the rest of the licensed oob apps. Especially at the expense of pushing out
custom development (essentially not supporting it).
The true irony, in my opinion, is that in the decade+ that we've been
struggling with converting the aruser GUI paradigm to a Web interface, the
world has come full circle.
Today, it's all mobile apps, and Web interfaces are on the way out. Static
dimension, single window grid layouts are back in a huge way.
I know what I could do with a naked arserver, and an aruser client that works
on ios and android. With a few tweaks to the GUI elements to make them mobile
friendly and client side plug-ins to give access to the camera, accelerometer,
messaging framework and the rest ...
holy moses, I know exactly what I could do with that! Change the world. That's
what.

Thanks. The whole point was that some people don't even KNOW that the engine
is, well, an engine unto itself. There seems to be a trend (marketing?) to
present the image that Remedy is ONLY CMDB/ITSM.

It's always challenging to explain to customers that those are just apps
running on a (very nice) workflow engine underneath. I'm all for canned apps
where they make sense. Ease of upgrade path, support, etc etc. However, small
steps seem to keep happening in the product evolution over the last few
versions to slowly close off the custom-build path and I'd just like to ask
for the server/engine to be made available *without* the suite. As great (or
not great) as anyone might feel the suite is, there are plenty out there who
want something simpler, or more modular, or (insert complaint here). It's part
of why other products (especially those that start with S and end with W) get a
lot of migration. There needs to be more flexibility.

It also lets you push back on customizers from a support perspective. It won't
be quite as ridiculous to have support tell you that's been customized, we
don't support it because if you want custom, you should buy the naked product
and build your own.

I'm not pretending it's is any big magical answer. The

Has anybody else run into this? Apparently in 8.1 BMC removed the Company
field from the foundation data spreadsheets. They say

“The Data Management loads are single tenant. The Company is driven from the
Data Management job. All of the data that is loaded by the Data Management
job is associated with the company that you selected when you created the
Data Management job. This means that you must create a separate spreadsheet
for each company. In addition, you must create a separate Data Management job
for each company spreadsheet. This is a design decision taken by Product
Development based upon a few security concerns. With 8.1, a security
vulnerability was closed by removing the direct ability to allow update to
companies other than the one in which the user running UDM resides. This was
deliberate. This prevents the risk that a user may insert/modify records in
companies to which they should have no access to”.

That’s great if you are single tenant but for those of us who are VERY
 multi-tenant (thousands of companies) it’s a problem. I don’t want to have
to load this data 3000 times so any suggestions are appreciated ;)

 Amit,
When a .NET application is consuming a Remedy web service, it is published
through Mid-Tier server.

 Hello All,

We have inegration with third party apllication built in .NET with
Remedy. This integration uses web services to create request in remedy

Is there any way to configure private queue directly or indirectly for
 web services?

Hello LJ,

Is it like i have to configure AR server RPC value on mid tier config page
under AR server setting section? One more thing i would like the share here
is we have configured production application LB name here in AR server
setting so is it going to work ?

I am mainly confused about actual configuration of this change.

LJ,

Why don't you just use the Zoo Project in the BMC doumentation?
We used this at a previous company I worked for on all the junior newbie's

 All,
I'm training up a newbie on Remedy Development, and we have reached the
point where I think he's ready for a 'test'I remember going through my
7.x RAC class, and they gave us a small 'requirements doc' for a fairly
simple, yet complex enough application that needed to be built...the guys
that were in the class with me all built different applications of course,
but they all met the application...it was a good exercise and helped hone
the blade so to speak on all of our skills...I was wondering if anyone
happened to have something like that laying around that I would be able to
 use

It doesn't need to be related to any particular industry, etc...just a
couple of pages of requirements for an app that requires a few forms, and
some description of functionality, but of course, not how the functionality
 needs to be built

If anyone is willing to send me some stuff, either on or offline, I would
 appreciate it.
