The specified plug-in does not exist. : REMEDY.ARF.CAI in ars 8.1.02

Hi all,

I get the error The specified plug-in does not exist. : REMEDY.ARF.CAI ARERR 
8755 in arerror.log, when I start submit a service request in SRM 8.1.02 SP4.

Also, I am unable to view the SR process view to debug errors as it throws 
error Error on loading the document and could find any incident created for 
the service.

I have the below entries in my ar.conf file. Attached the ar.conf file of my 
dev server.


Server-Plugin-Alias: REMEDY.ARF.CAI REMEDY.ARF.CAI WEMBMCREMEDY01:

Plugin-Path: C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr

If you are planning to remove records from HPD:Associations, you will lose the 
linkage between Problem, change and know error relations if available any. 

If you planned to remove, then you can consider Problem association and change 
association forms as well.

Hi Misi, 

Could you please explain bit elaborate on updating the form definitions. The 
last update on the form .def was happened on June month. 
Today, I have captured few logs and it shown the timestamp as yesterday.

My unix admin has explained me on this error like the funtions starts with 
00237544 defined in runmacro are not executed because of some memory issue 
(smalloc, malloc)...

The vfc apparently compares your currrent def-version-timestamp to the one of

Hi Misi,

You are right...!

The problem is with macro file format of opening the .arq file. In windows, 
.arq file content would be readable only when we open it in notepad, word pad 
etc...

In such cases, if unknowingly, we checked the option Always open using the 
selected program then it will start open all .arq files in notepad window.

Once removing that file type assosiation with the selected program and FTP it 
to unix box, works as expected ;-)

Small thing.. taken a while figure it out.

My next challenge would be how to encrypt the password / to find is there any 
way to avoid giving direct password in command...

The error might not be related to the ARExport-call at all, but that is the
last API call that is done.

The ARValidateFormCache that is called will compare the date to the FORM and
all related ACTL:s, ACTL-GUIDE:s and MENU:s. If any of these has been updated,
a new version needs to be retrieved.

If runmacro indeed uses cached files, I would suspect they ar named .arf/.arv
as the old user tool did. Have you tried to find these files? Maybe you can
delete them before you run it again?

The most likely problem to me would seem to be the macro itself. Does other
macros work for you? Have you tried to record any other simple macro against a
small regular form to see if it works?

Maximum limit in search bar

In 7.0.03 ITSM, when I attempt to use Copy to New option to copy an incident 
content from a saved incident (assigned status), it throws a strange error.

The value doesn't fall within the specified limits
(maximum limit 255 characters) - Search bar

How does the search bar comes here when the incident form in New mode? Any 
idea...

Fortunately, this is the only case reported.  :) I had a recheck in audit log, 
it was reopened and resolved again. So, the down elapsed time was updated 
properly. (thanks andres..!)

account of all the time which the measured was stopped, no only the exclusion 
clause.
so if you move an incident to resolved status then go back to in progress

Joe,

The system was not set to update automatically. It is a standalone system with 
local Network.  The system earlier working with patch 8 with JDK 1.5.0.15 
(minimum recommended 1.5.0.12). The version is still the same. The issue 
history includes some changes in arsystem startup script as well. We have given 
the java path manually in script as 
/usr/java/jre/lib/sparc/server:/usr/java/jre/bin. Earlier, it was 
/usr/bin/java, which is not helping us to start up arsystem after patch 9 
upgrade.

We have some confusion to update the java path in environment variables of 
solaris. The system has 32 bit and 64 bit java. But, which is the right path to 
point in what variables is our confusion. Can anybody guide for setting up JDK. 
?

You probably may have not deliberately changed anything but might have set your 
server for automatic upgrade, which might have altered the path of your JVM and 
hence it cannot find it anymore.

Have you checked to see that your JVM path is consistent with the configuration 
settings in Remedy, particularly the process that starts the plugin service?

Effect of SLM Business Time segment changes in older Incident

Hi All,

We got an urgent business requirement to configure SLM Business Time Segment 
(BTS) with revised Week ends (Non- SLA days) as Reoccurring in weekly basis 
with frequency 1. We have to deploy this change by tomorrow evening (Friday).

Existing Available BTS -  Having non SLA days as Thursday  Friday  with 8:30 
AM to 5:30 PM - (Available with Level 1)

New requirement  for BTS - For this week, three days are declared as weekend  
(27 -thu, 28 - Fri ,29 - Sat  of June) and from next week onwards Friday  
Saturday should be the week ends.

I taught to configure by this way, Since both the BTS has Friday as common Non 
SLA day.


1)  Changing the existing BTS end date and time as 06/28/2013 5:30 PM and 
save it.

2)  Create a new BTS with same entity ID available in existing BTS with 
start date and time as 06/29/2013 8:30 AM and end date 1/1/2038 5:30 PM with 
Level 3 and save it.

3)  Relate the new BTS with old Business entity.  Now, old Buz. Entity will 
have two BTSes.

4)  Rebuild all SLAs by selecting the old business entity once again.

My concern is, What would be the effect on old incidents whose SLA due date was 
set based on Old BTS. What are the pros and cons of this. Nowhere I found a 
concrete answer in any docs/blogs.

As per my understanding, Level 3 would override level 1. On rebuilding of SLAs 
would recreate new milestone filters and will exclude the calculation on 
Saturday (29th). The due date will be recalculated in SLM:Measurements form 
accordingly for older tickets. Also, the new tickets would act as per new BTS.

happens. To get group notification, incident has to be saved with group 
assignment first. Post to individual, would trigger direct to assignee.

Is there any OOB feature to get both at same time, when incident assigned to an 
assignee.

The business case is like,

Our help desk guys assigning incidents to an individual directly sometimes. If 
the particular support staff is not aware / not having a check in IM console 
often, it left unanswered sometimes  rather immediately where customer expects 
to do so.
In such cases, if it gets notified to entire group, the other sup. Staff would 
answer soon.

There is a way to trick the system into doing this but it adds an 
administration overhead. You can create a dummy people record and put that 
record in the support group. Then, you can put the email address as the address 
of an email distribution list that has the members of that support group. Now, 
when you assign the incident to that dummy user, the entire group gets the 
email.
This is not very efficient or that useful in my opinion unless you wanted to 
notify people in the distro list that were not in the support group.
If I may ask, what's the business case for wanting the feature you are asking 
about?

Yes Joe, I have checked by running the plugin start up command thru command 
line separately. It brought up the Webservice and other plugins as well ☺.   
The problem happens when I get HPI library error while restarting it.

Apart from your class path examine the plugin startup command in the armonitor 
file. Try to start it from the command line and see what is the error you get, 
assuming for some reason it has not started.

HPI library error. We have a case  opened with BMC. As per their suggestion, 
after exporting Application installtion dir/bin in LD_LIBRARY_PATH, tried 
separately initiating  Arplugin process, once arsystem is up which loaded Web 
service and other plugins properly. For this activity, we have commented the 
arplugin line item in armonitor.conf. 

But can’t able to figure out, why we  are getting these ARERROR 8755 and HPI 
library error only when we start the ars with uncommenting arplugin line item 
in armontior.conf.  What is the cause for these errors which is not appearing 
on separate initialization of arplugin..?

I hope this will help incase if you want to resolve the pending incidents. You 
can try using relationship tab. Go to the incident A which you want actually to 
resolve and relate all the pending incidents using original of type like 
below.  On resolving incident A, it will resolve all the pending incidents. But 
pls check your Filter API timeout. There is an unsaid constraint on the number 
of incidents to relate for resolving related incidents. I tried this in 7.1 for 
resolving 240 incidents but ends with Filter time out error.

Pavan,

You can relate a pending incident with any incident. But I guess if you have 
related with one incident using original of / duplicate of, the same incident 
you can't relate with other one.  I just tried now and it resolved the related 
incident without any error.

You have not mentioned in which version you are trying this.

In 7.1, you can use the menu item called Copy to new available under edit 
menu. It will copy all the details of the previously created incident and save 
it. But, this is a manual work.

Depending on what it is you want to accomplish you might want to consider 
either tasks or work orders. I would think having workflow create an Incident 
when you create an Incident might be difficult to control and result in an 
endless number of Incidents.

Is there any possibility on this scenario like opening a record in two windows 
or clients. One console gets the change and triggered the filter A on save. And 
if the user tries to make the same changes in second console and click save. 
The second save will have the transaction values which qualifies for filter 
Runif to trigger. I am not sure. But it would throw an error like This form 
was modified by another user and making changes and save would override it. 
Pls correct me if am wrong.

I have been looking into one scenario to reproduce in test env but I just 
confused more on this. It is like I have a filter with below syntax,

Filter name  : Filter A
Filter runif:  field1 = abdc AND field2 = No
Actions :  Set field  - field 2 = Yes
   Set field   - Trigger 3rd party webservice.

After firing the filter A for first time, field2 was set to the value Yes and 
triggered the wbs request to a middle ware app for a record.  After few 
minutes, the same request has been triggered thrice with the intervals of 
milliseconds which make me to think, after the value change in Runif field2, is 
it possible to trigger the filter again? :( From the user tool wise, there is 
no track of changes in the record and we don't have logs as well. I suspect 
this can't be by user action, since it of milliseconds interval.

Does any come across in ARS 7.1 patch 8 in solaris box.?  Any solutions/ ideas 
are much appreciated to reproduce/resolve.

Fred,

I have run the ARS as non-root only and it fails when I run ./arsystem start 
from the bin directory.  Even if I run with root user, I still get the below 
error and java process didn’t started at all. This happens with not root user 
as well. Also,  i haven't change the java version in the server.

Are you running ARS as non-root?  

When the startup fails is it when running ./arsystem start  (from your bin

Mark, I have run thru the logs which triggers filter A and checked the WBS 
response by triggering it externally. There is no such filter runs after the 
response of WBS call. To say it accurately, this is the final filter which runs 
for a record. Also there is no looping filter to change the Field 2 value 
again, once it sets to YES.

I have been looking into one scenario to reproduce in test env but I just 
confused more on this. It is like I have a filter with below syntax,

Filter name  : Filter A
Filter runif:  field1 = abdc AND field2 = No
Actions :  Set field  - field 2 = Yes
   Set field   - Trigger 3rd party webservice.

After firing the filter A for first time, field2 was set to the value Yes and 
triggered the wbs request to a middle ware app for a record.  After few 
minutes, the same request has been triggered thrice with the intervals of 
milliseconds which make me to think, after the value change in Runif field2, is 
it possible to trigger the filter again? :( From the user tool wise, there is 
no track of changes in the record and we don't have logs as well. I suspect 
this can't be by user action, since it of milliseconds interval.

Does any come across in ARS 7.1 patch 8 in solaris box.?  Any solutions/ ideas 
are much appreciated to reproduce/resolve.

Apart from Application installtion dir/bin in LD_LIBRARY_PATH, I have found 
only one path updated for java: /usr/java/jre/lib/sparc/client. I am not sure 
after installation, is it updated or needs to be updated correctly. Can you pls 
guide me what to look out in CLASSPATH.

Yes Joe, I have checked by running the plugin start up command thru command 
line separately. It brought up the Webservice and other plugins as well :).   
The problem happens when I get HPI library error while restarting it.

Apart from your class path examine the plugin startup command in the armonitor 
file. Try to start it from the command line and see what is the error you get, 
assuming for some reason it has not started.

HPI library error. We have a case  opened with BMC. As per their suggestion, 
after exporting Application installtion dir/bin in LD_LIBRARY_PATH, tried 
separately initiating  Arplugin process, once arsystem is up which loaded Web 
service and other plugins properly. For this activity, we have commented the 
arplugin line item in armonitor.conf.

But can't able to figure out, why we  are getting these ARERROR 8755 and HPI 
library error only when we start the ars with uncommenting arplugin line item 
in armontior.conf.  What is the cause for these errors which is not appearing 
on separate initialization of arplugin..?
