New Idea in BMC Developer Communities

2018-11-26 Thread Grooms, Frederick W via ARSList
https://communities.bmc.com/ideas/19399

In AR 9.x BMC has discontinued the arfork log file. You'll notice from the
following link the arfork log is not described and in the screenshot it is
grayed out and unavailable:

https://docs.bmc.com/docs/ars91/en/setting-log-files-options-609073755.html
The log option does not appear on the Logs tab in the later releases
because it is no longer used

The arfork log file was the place to find the execution of an external Run
Process command
Tue Nov 20 07:54:49 2018 Received record marker.
   Tue Nov 20 07:54:49 2018 Spawning child, shell "", command "{FULL
COMMAND LINE}".
   Tue Nov 20 07:54:49 2018 Spawned "{FULL COMMAND LINE}" as pid 56744.
Tue Nov 20 07:54:49 2018 Awaiting record marker.
Tue Nov 20 07:54:49 2018 process id 56744 has exited with status 0x0.

This idea is for BMC to bring back logging the external run process actions
in some log file (my preference would be the Thread log file if they do not
wish to use the arfork log again)

Please vote up

When I do a new action for Change Field It comes up for Field Name.
Somehow your default seems to have changed to Field Value. That does sound
like a corrupt workspace cache

Thank you Keith, good to know.

1. We’re not windows.

2. We don’t have more than one server defined in the mid-tier

I rather thing that it’s related to a ARS bug which attacks when we use our ARF
Plugin.

RE: Phase 3 Filter action threw ARERR and deleted record from form

2018-03-07 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
>From your description, as long as nothing else but the Filter that calls the
>Run Process is executed on Submit then the record in your staging form should

This is the same methodology we use for all of our external interfaces.

- External system inserts record in Interface/Staging form as "New"
(Usually thru a web service)

- On Submit filter does Run Process action to call external utility to
change status to "Ready". (This filter should not have the `! )

- Filters to process data run on Modify/Merge when status is "Ready"
(and when complete set status to "Complete")

If there is an error in processing the data the Interface/Staging record is
still there as "New". The other main reason we use this method is if we are
working with a complex web service call (with child forms), this will allow the
AR System to save the child records (in the phase 2 of the web service process
from the external system) so they are available when we go to process the data.

Hi,

I was under the impression that if a Phase 3 action on a submit filter met with
ARERR error, then the submitted record will still be present on the form , will
not get deleted or rolled back. However, I observed quite the contrary on ARS
8.1.02. Have you come across this before and how did you overcome?

I have a custom form on ITSM 8.1.02. Another system creates records into the
custom form by consuming Remedy's web service [USER: webservices.user]. A
filter on submit on the custom form has a Run process action that executes a
batch file. The batch file uses BMC javadataimport utility to import status
into the same record that was just submitted [User: import.user]. Merge filters
fire when that particular status value is set. One of the merge filters met
with ARERR. After that the record submitted also got deleted ! Is this expected
behavior?

RE: Macro Questions

2018-01-08 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Since you are on 8.1.2 you can always query the form “AR System Metadata:
actlink_macro” for what is in the system.
ShortText + LongText should give you the actual macro.
Using the actlink ID against the “AR System Metadata: actlink” form will give
you which Active Links they exist in.

Personally if there are not too many I think it might be better to recreate
what they are doing instead of converting.

Hi,

Well, on my Ubuntu-machine it apparently defaults to the Swedish format
"-MM-DD HH:mm:ss". One of my clients using that same program are
successfully using the format "M/D/ h:mm:ss a"...

I tried changing my LANG environment variable without success. It seems to pick
up some other system setting.

My standard setting:
locale
LANG=sv_SE.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=sv
LC_CTYPE="sv_SE.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_TIME=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE="sv_SE.UTF-8"

LC_ADDRESS=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=sv_SE.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

I reset LC_ALL and get this, but the parseQualification still uses the same
-MM-DD format:
locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=sv
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"

It concerns controlling the date+time format when the Java-API program is

In a C-API program, you just set the environment variable ARDATE before running
it, and it will use the specified format.

So how can you control this before running a Java-API program?

Hi, Experts!

I have a primary ticket form and a secondary form that has just an attachment
pool. The primary form has a table that lists the entries in the secondary
form associated with the current request. I can see the list and successfully
call the secondary form from the primary one in order to add additional
attachments. For users to view the attachments, I could simply leave the table
drill down option to True. This would simply open up the secondary form and
the user would then click on the Display button. I wanted to make it a bit
nicer than that by having the user just double-click on the entry in the table
and display the attachment.

I currently have a separate view created for this purpose. I've tried it with
just an empty view and I've tried it having the attachment pool and attachment
field in the view. I have an active link that checks the $VUI$ value to match
the view in question. If it matches, I have a Set Fields action that calls
"$PROCESS$ PERFORM-ACTION-OPEN-ATTACHMENT 536880912". The AL fires off, but
I'm getting a failure code of 2.

I'm not sure if there's a server-side log that I can turn on to see what may be
causing this. If you think that I'm misunderstanding the purpose of the open
attachment action, please let me know.

This is on ARS 9.1.02.

We are seeing a strange issue in ITSM Incident on MT 9.1.03.001 where looking
up the Customer doesn't seem to fire all of the AL workflow. The workflow sets
the field to the CTM:People record ID when choosing a name and the other AL
workflow fires and eventually replaces that with the name of the person. What
we sporadically see is the record ID doesn't get replaced (like the rest of the
workflow isn't firing).

So far we have only seen it in Chrome; which is our primary browser so it
probably hasn't been tested or experienced in any other. It happens
inconsistently so it has been hard to track down what is really happening (or
not happening). At this point we are likely just going to wait for SP 4.

I've tried installing it on Windows 2016 using Java 1.6 as the installer
would not recognize 1.8x or 9x.
Noted during the install, the installer did not list IIS for the web server
but continues the install only to fail in the long run. I've also added the
IIS 6 compat packs and retried the install but get the same results. The
installer does not see IIS, and the redirector does not get setup.

I've tried to manually setup the redirector but again Remedy install fails.

Has anyone migrated to Remedy ARS 7x to Windows 2016 successfully? If so can
you share your setup process.

Where is there a difference in the time to create the next ID
   UPDATE ARSCHEMA SET NEXTID = NEXTID + 1 WHERE SCHEMAID = x
   UPDATE ARSCHEMA SET NEXTID = NEXTID + 100 WHERE SCHEMAID = x
It is not like the database goes 1+1+1+1+1+1… with a save to the file each
time.

My db bottleneck was pure ARS workflow. Legal required an audit trail on some
15 fields of the main form. One user doing an update on the main form could
then generate 15 new child records in an audit table. Multiply that by 200
users and you get a possibility of 3000 new records at a given time for a
single table. Actual results in the SQL.log showed that in a 5 minute
timeframe the Set NEXTID was called for the audit table 23 times when the size
was set to 20 (460 new records in the audit table in 5 minutes from 1 ARS
server). Bumping the size to 100 eliminated the Oracle db_lock contention
errors.

Abhijeet, my results were repeated and conclusive. Here is the only logical
explanation for my findings that makes sense:

There is a time cost to the DB call for Entry IDs. The cost increases
incrementally the more that are requested at once. The thought is that 100
individual requests will take substantially more time than retrieving 100 IDs
in one request. That thought has been proven to be correct - it's why the
feature was added. However, the difference in time was tested against a system
that had multiple sources (NMS) attempting to grab multiple Entry IDs at the
same time, not a normal system without those multiple outside requests, because
it was the first environment that was reporting the problem with performance.

On a system where the volume of IDs is high enough to cause a system bottleneck
at the DB ID request, which requires multiple simultaneous requests from
different sources, that bottleneck costs more additional time than is lost by
the increased time it takes to request multiple IDs at one time. However, on a
system that is not bound by the Next ID calls to the DB, or has only a single
source (AR System) requesting IDs, there is no advantage gained by the multiple
requests, because the time "gained" by having a cached ID is negligible - too
small to even notice. And, as my testing proved (to my surprise), there was an
increasing net cost to system performance as the number of IDs requested in a
single call grew. This must be because the time it takes to gather, say, 100
records in one call is actually *higher* than it is to do 100 individual calls
- IF AR System is the only source of those calls. The simple correlation is
that if AR System is the only thing generating new Request ID requests to the
DB, you don't need, and will not benefit from, a number larger than 1. If you
have multiple outside entities creating large number of records at once, you
very well may benefit from it.

My tests that showed decreasing performance as the Next Id block grew were
creating about 1.5 million records, but, and this is important - all were from
the same source - AR System workflow. There were no other simultaneous demands
on the table, and few on the system. Therefore, the system of generating one
ID at a time had a cumulatively lower transaction time than it did when it had
to wait for multiples to be retrieved and then allocated individually. The BMC
Engineer, who I know to be very smart and experienced with Remedy, had no
explanation for my results. I believe this to be that BMC didn't test against
a control (normal) system, and therefore had no data on its effect on them.

Why then, they chose to recommend that setting to all customers, is a mystery
to me.

Rick, I do not think that is accurate.
Logically, if the block size is 100 then the server will access the DB once to
retrieve the next block id every 100 records. If it is 1, then the server goes
to the DB for every record.
Later cannot be faster.

Further, to answer the original question, returning the next id in an API call
would mean preventing creation of ids by anyone other than the caller until the
id has actually been used -- otherwise the information might be obsolete before
the client receives it. That is the reason for not exposing it via an API

wasn’t on the primary form, it was on a child form (something like the Worklog

Here's the skinny on that. I got this from the engineer who built that
feature, btw.

The problem was that system performance was being constricted around the action
of getting the NextId for a record when multiple sources (say, Netcool and
HPOV) were throwing tons of requests at the (Incident) form at the same time.
The process of getting each Next Entry ID in individual DB calls was
bottlenecking the process of creating the records. So that's why BMC came up
with a way to pre-allocate those in bulk, so that only every N times (whatever
the number is set to) would an actual call to the DB to get Next IDs be
necessary. The transaction time to retrieve 1 or 100 wasn't much different,
and those customers with multiple programs requiring many simultaneous record
creations saw a marked performance increase. It was, and is, a good feature
add.

So (then a miracle occurs) and BMC announces that this particular corner case
had a solution that everyone should benefit from, and announced that the number
should be 100 for *all* customers. I tested this back in 7.6.04 against a RH
server, with settings at 1, 10, 100, and 1000, and found that performance was
actually NEGATIVELY affected the higher the number was set. It wasn't a huge
difference (10%~), but it was a clear, repeatable one for which BMC's engineer
had no explanation. It is why I have always advocated that unless a customer
has the specific set of circumstances that caused the feature to be beneficial,
there is no real benefit to setting the number larger than 1. And there are
minor drawbacks to doing so, the current subject being one of them.

Every time I ask someone from BMC to justify a larger number to the average
customer, they repeat the party line, unaware of the history behind the
feature. I will continue to tilt at this windmill until someone at BMC shows
me some performance testing numbers that justify this setting for the entire
customer base.

Apart from that, I really don’t understand why BMC makes such a fuss around the
nextID. Why can’t they just provide a special command GET-NEXTID?

Hello List,

according to Server Information

in ARS 7.6.4 we had the setting: de_DE@euro;WESTERN

in 9.1.03 swe have: de;UTF-8

According to these articles:

https://bmcsites.force.com/casemgmt/sc_KnowledgeArticle?sfdcid=kA21400dAcECAU

https://bmcsites.force.com/casemgmt/sc_KnowledgeArticle?sfdcid=kA21400dCHzCAM

we should be able to change this setting. So we added to arserverd.conf:

jvm.option.17 = -Duser.country=Germany
jvm.option.18 = -Duser.timezone=Europe/Berlin
jvm.option.19 = -Duser.language=GER

Unfortunately the display on Server Information did no change.

What else can we do?

Hello Listers,

at the moment I do ARS upgrades from 7.6.4, 8.1.00 and higher to 9.1.03 for
various customers. OS: Linux and Solaris.

Not a single system that just worked! I'm really not sure how to move to
production under this circumstances...

What's even worse: the BMC support in India has zero clue and just keeping us
busy with their ideas and requests. In all the month not a single hint with
substance! BTW, talked to some partners and customers which I do not work for -
same issues! But BMC support always pretends they never heard of any issues.

The logs of my recent
installation:https://s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/miskiewicz/arslist/INC112333.tar.gz
Maybe one of you has an idea what is going on.

Basically the job went like this:

1. Clean and working 8.1.00 installation.
2. Installer 9.1.03 runs.
3. Installer 9.1.03 cannot start the server it installed and gives up.
4. Result: A messed up ARS 9.1.03 installation that doesn't start, but is
trying to do a gazzilion of inserts into various tables and is violating the
unique index at the same time.

I restored and started from scratch. Same result. Not sure what to do. The only
comfort is BMC doesn't know either. I feel less stupid.

Hi All

This is one of those case where I did something years ago and can't remember
how I did it. Hoping someone can assist.

Have 10 records and the First Name field contains Joe, Joe, Bob, Joe, Mike,
Joe, Bob, Mike, Joe and Bill.

On the same field I want have a menu that searches on the First Name field and
displays Bill, Bob, Joe, Mike.

If I create a new record I could use the existing names or type in a new one.
If the new record was for Mary, after submit, the menu would contain Bill, Bob,
Joe, Mary, Mike

I just know this is simple enough to do, but it was about 10 years last time I
did it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There has been a change in where the LDAP component settings are stored but
it's the Centralized Configuration forms and not the CMDB. See

The upgrade should have migrated the settings from the ar.cfg to the new

9.1.3 they are stored in the CMDB? Can someone confirm this for me. If that is
correct, then I assume the CMDB needs to be set up and functional in order to
access the info. The reason I am asking is that we currently do not use the
CMDB. We have it installed but it is not configured correctly to work. When I
did the upgrade from 8.1 to 9.1.3 we lost all the settings for the AREA LDAP

I’ve got a ticket at BMC for this, but I thought the ARSlist might have some

I am attempting to upgrade ARS 8.1 to 9.1.3 (or 9.1.2 – same problem).
Both versions complain that the ‘AR System Server Admin’ user fails
authentication.
I’ve verified that ‘Demo’ and my ID can login to the server with the same
passwords entered into the upgrade dialog.

BMC support has requested LOG files from the install, but after extensively
searching the disk, no log files are found.

Anyone bump into this before?

John,
In this case I would impose the 'management' rule. Does the company want to
stay on a supported platform, on a supported version of that platform?...if so,
they need to move on from the long ago unsupported tool and move forward into
the futurehorses were great at the time, but we moved on as a world...yes,
some people still use horses for transportation, but most of the modernized
world has moved onto something else. The current and supported client for
Remedy is Mid-Tier, and that's the client they need to use if your company
wants to be on a supported platform.if on the other hands, like many, your
company doesn't care about that, then they can stay on the client until the OS
they run doesn't work with it and they can't install it

And they don’t rely on type-ahead because they are on the WUT. When they test
the browser client they cite “muscle-memory” as the reason for having
difficulty adapting to a web based system.

I may hide the menu icon on type-ahead fields to act as a reminder.

Oh and I tried the SET fields action with Display a List option but you have to
set the Results list for the form where the menu data are “just right” to get
any kind of keyboard response. (Some of our menus are large, hence the multiple
levels.)

I was thinking of using a modal or dialog panel and a tree table field to
display the results and then just SET the value selected into the main form
field.

Joe, type ahead might be a good thing, as it is usually faster than navigating
a big char menu (expanded or not).

You might also be able to create a solution with a table field or maybe an
navigation field. Using a display only form dialog could also help.

Hi Folks,

I have a customer using what I think of as a first. An Oracle DB with charset
DB_CHAR_SET := (11) iso-8859-15

This is against ARS 9.1.00 201610281101 running on Linux
2.6.32-573.3.1.el6.x86_64 against Oracle 12.1.0.2.0 - 64bit Production.

I issue a Query and the response includes the default Form based list of query
fields. There apparently is no way to request none. You can override the
default which is the obvious work-around and will be tested shortly.
Presumably, you may say the client is using the same character set and get
around the issue being thrown by the translation dlls.

In this case the form's query fields includes those with umlauts. When such a
record (containing an umlaut in a form specified query field) is queried, the
ARERR 91 occurs. When said query returns records with no umlauts in the
generated "short description", there is no error.

The client (Meta-Update) is running under Windows and is compiled with 9.1
libraries. An 8.1 library version also suffered the same problem. The Linux
version has not yet been tested.

I would tend to think it is a client api responsibility - given the plethora of
modified character translate open source dlls - but the fact that both the
8.1.2 and 9.1 compiles behave the same way (with changes in these supplied
dlls) - makes me want to think of the server.

I guess after spending some hours, I am quite curious. I believe I have an
enhancement that may work (to define the character set as above in the
ARControl block) and one that most likely will work (to request an override to
the form's configured fields).

So,
1) Anyone ever experienced this? We have not tried the Windows driver at
this point.
2) Does anyone NOT use UTF-8 on their DB with anything above 7.6.04?
3) Any comments?

Thanks a bunch in advance for your efforts!

Re: Server Alias Production and COOP

2017-05-17 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
The way we handle it here is to never use the real server names, always use an
alias for both the web server and the AR Server.

In the AR System you can add the IP-Name entries to the ar.conf (ar.cfg for
Windows) so the AR System will recognize both names as the same server
i.e.
Server-Name: name1
IP-Name: name1.fqdn.com
IP-Name: alias1
IP-Name: alias1.fqdn.com

We typically also add the alias to the hosts file so from inside the server it
will resolve the alias to itself always

We have a number of integrations with our remedy environment using web
services. We want to seamlessly switch between Production and COOP without
impacting the integrations, since the remedy application server name is in the
mid-tier url. I'm assuming we can setup a DNS server alias and then just mess
with DNS when switching between environments. How have other people managed
this and are there any things to lookout for? Ideally I would like to be able
to swap in and out of environments without the integrations or end users
realizing we are switching.

Current sample settings, names changed to protect the innocent:

https://coopmidtierserver/arsys/forms/coopappserver/...

Would like both to use:

Mark,
I don't believe so, the reason being is that even back in the old days of
'modify all' in the user tool, you selected the records you wanted to modify,
then the user tool did a loop through a list of request id's and did the same
update to all of themfrom an api perspective, when doing a set entry,
'which request are you updating, on which form' is the primary information, of
course it also needs to know what you are changing...but you need to know
exactly which records

So, if you are trying to do it via 'query', you'll need to write a query
routine to get the request id's in question, then push an update to each one
respectively

Alternativelyyou could push a query to an 'interface' form with the query
as one of the inputs, then have a filter to the execution of the query and
update for you :)

Re: External Email Restriction and Validation check

2017-05-08 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
The easiest way I can think of is to do the following

Filter 1
Action 1: Set a Display Only character field (for this example I am calling
it zTemp1) to UPPER the TO email address field.
  Action 2: Set zTemp1 = REPLACE($zTemp1$, “@TEST.COM”, “”)

Filter 2: If zTemp1 like “%@%” show error

Basically after removing all occurrences of @test.com in the string if you have
any @ left then there is at least 1 address that does not meet your criteria.

We can have a AL on button "Send Email Now" on this form (CTM:Email System) ..

Success means it was able to call the Java executable. My guess is Java is not
able to find the SampleClientPost1 file.
When you run it from the command line, where are you running it from?

As for debugging That would be whatever you have put into your

John,
BMC themselves went away from Diary fields for the most part (certainly in the
work log process) many years agothe down side, as you pointed out is
storing the diary in individual records causes issues with reportingthis is
easily worked around in a sufficiently advanced reporting tool allowing you to
create sub-reports reporting all of the diary entries from a second
tablethe fact that they can't be pulled in the same entry is the only down
side that I know of...with plenty of up sides.

Since diary fields don’t show up in Mid Tier Web reporting I was looking into a
way to replace the diary field for reporting.

We actually have reports that get created in csv format for Excel that use the
Diary.
Occasionally we have a diary so large it breaks the cell character limit in
Excel.

I was contemplating using a table field to display records from a work activity
form and then using either a join or some other temporary means to gather the
activity into a report.

Can I use an unlimited Display Only field to dump the diary during the report
process?
Is there a better mouse trap for collecting large amounts of data and reporting
it?

As always, thanks in advance.

The only thing I can think of why your developer studio stopped responding was

Hello All,

I created an index on customized form from developer studio. Form stopped
responding when I saved it.
I had to force close dev studio and restart ARS service.
Once the service was back up, I opened the form again from developer studio and
my changes were in place but the db went out of sync.
New index was not in database.
I then deleted the index from dev studio and saved the form.
Changes were saved pretty fast.
I manually created index from db query. Query was successful and I was able to
see the new table index from db but now dev studio isnt showing that index on
the form.
I reopened it several times. Even restarted ARS service.

What could have went wrong?
Please suggest.

grant alter session, create cluster, create database link, create sequence,
create session, create synonym, create table, create view, create procedure,
create trigger, query rewrite to ARole_arsys;

Anybody know what other permissions I need to have granted for ARS 9.1 to run.

I am on Red-Hat Linux 7 with Oracle 11g and the installer did not complain
about any missing privileges.

Re: Defined Searches

2017-01-30 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
User searches are stored in the AR System Search Preferences form.
You could do some process to clone the search record you create to additional
users (i.e. Copy to New on that form).

Another point about the Form defined searches is that you can only have 16 (I
think that is the number) on the view of the form.

Well that's not good. I have multiple companies using the system and was
hoping to use a backend form to control the searches without doing a whole lot
of customization. I was hoping it pulled off the AR System Search Preferences.
They want to run a bunch of searches based on an start/end date. I want to
set this based on permissions. They also want to be able to export this data
as needed to a csv file. Just doing reports won't work because they may only
want to drill into the individual ticket data, in which they would only need
the search and not need the report. Back to the drawing board.

Hi,

If you export your filters to a def file, you can just search for the server
name to find the locations. The server name is typically not used that much for
other stuff.

You can even use RRR|DefSearch to get a list of matching objects:

SERVER keyword in Filters

2017-01-20 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
We are in the process of moving our servers to new hardware.

Old OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.11(Linux
2.6.18-400.1.1.el5)
New OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.2 (Linux
3.10.0-327.36.1.el7.x86_64)

We have the same version of ARS (8.1.02 201408260235) on each server (Once we
are on the new hardware we can upgrade). Both servers are pointing to the same
database.

On the old hardware the $SERVER$ keyword in filters is reporting the short name
(i.e. devars01).
On the new hardware it is reporting the FQDN (i.e. devars01.myxyz.com).

The environment variables and ar.conf are all the same between the servers.
Does anyone know what setting I can change to make it report back with the
short name?

Check your path to make sure it can find echo
Since you are on linux you can turn on the arfork log to see the command being
executed and the actual results

You may have to use /bin/echo in place of just echo
And if you have tabs, returns/new lines you may want to doecho -e so the

Thomas,

THAT is the tradeoff. You get the current values when you override phasing.
You cannot say, phase for this attribute to get the final value but not for
that attribute. That is where you need to make the call about what your
specific situation is and choose the right option.

If you are modifying, then the requestID is available. If you are creating,
then it is not until phase 3….

Dustin,

There are three options that I can think of for you to consider.

1) Don’t NULL the value – the notification runs in phase 3 and will pick
up the FINAL value of the field not an intermediate one. This stores the value
in the field.

2) Put the value in a display only field (as suggested) – This stores
nothing to the DB, but the value in the display only field is available
throughout the phases of the operation.

3) Override the filter phasing. End the name of your filter (yes, this is
a naming convention rather than a filter option, and there is lots of history
for why this is this way, but it is….) with `! (that is a BACKQUOTE followed
by an exclamation point). This will override the phasing of the filter for
this filter and cause the notification to be executed NOW not in phase 3. OK,
honestly, it just takes a snapshot of all the values and saves then for the
notification rather than actually sending the notification right now but the
result is the same…This would use the CURRENT VALUE AT THAT TIME of the
field not the value at the end of the transaction. This should work for your
situation (a quick test would confirm it).

For your situation, you may find that the third option is the simplest solution
without needing extra work or handling.

Not knowing how the field value is getting set, I’m going to guess that it’s
set/input by the tech at transaction time.
That said, If you only need the contents of this field for the

just use a Display Only field.

I have figured this out, but I would still like some advice. What was causing
my issue is that I was setting the field in question to $NULL$ after the Notify
action within the filter. I even tried setting the field to $NULL$ in a
different filter step with a later execution order. I suppose this is due to
filter phases. (https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/ars91/Filter+phases).

Aside from emailing the contents of this field, the contents are also copied to
one of two other fields, depending on the tech's choice, that are also saved to
the database. Thus I don't need yet another copy of the field's contents. For

Based on the workflow that I started with below I end up with something like
this

{
"MultiRequest":  {
"data":  [

   {
  "host": "Server ABC.34190",
  "duration" :"1440 minutes"
},
   {
  "host": "Server Z.34190",
  "duration" :"1440 minutes"
}
  ]
}
}

Is there way to push this into a file and then attach the file to a record? The
file would always have the same file name.

Thanks
Mark

Hi,

The LJ solution is the simplest one. But you can do what you originally tried
to if you add one more double quote making it four, not three:
( + "hosts:" + + $Server Name$)

Hi All

I need to do a set field where there is text in quotes and the a field
reference. Result would be like

“host:” server1

Tried “”” + “hosts:” + “”” + $Server Name$ but that doesn’t work. I know it is
something simple but it has been a long time since I have tried it.

There are a few ways to correct depending on what you need ...
   a. You can reset the NextID in the ARSCHEMA table
   b. You can adjust the max by changing the size of the Request ID field in
the form

Could this be an issue with generating a requestId? I'm not having any issue

Hello!

We're looking to create a room booking system which would also integrate with
Outlook. We're on Outlook 2007 and Remedy 8.1.

My preference would be to use web services because that is tried and tested in
our environment.

Has anyone else tried this?

What we've tried so far is connecting to the Services.wsdl in SOAP UI. If I
just put the wsdl URL in "Initial WSDL" field it prompts me for a username,
password and domain and after entering that, I get this error:

Error loading [https://webmail.access.uk.com/ews/Services.wsdl]:
org.apache.xmlbeans.XmlException: org.apache.xmlbeans.XmlException: error:
Unexpected end of file after nul
I get EXACTLY the same error if I intentionally put in wrong credentials.

The email team have created a user for me to test with, and that user has
"exchange impersonation rights". Is that necessary or should it also work if I
connect as myself (i.e. a normal outlook exchange user).

Any pointers? I feel like this should be a straightforward operation but maybe
it isn't...

Thanks!
Isabel

re-license with the new host id.

Fred,

The key is to not have the keyword interpreted as you prepare the command line
to be run.

As entered by Dave, there were no “” around the keyword – as there should not
be to work as a keyword. But, as it was just the keyword, it was being
expanded as the run process was being created rather than staying as a keyword
to be processed in the qualifier as the command ran.

It would expand into the timestamp value. Without quotes, you get one error –
a syntax error. With quotes you get another syntax error of a character string
being subtracted by a number (or if it auto converts, likely you get the month
as an integer and that is involved in the arithmetic operation).

The key is to keep it from expanding as the command line is being built so that
it is a true keyword when the command is run and it is passed on to the process.

Dave,

All the other suggestions about archive and escalations and the like apply as
different ways to get this done.

But, to tell you why what you were doing below doesn’t work and to help any
other users having issues with qualifiers in run processes.

Use $\TIMESTAMP$ instead of $TIMESTAMP$ in the qualifier.

The extra \ is to escape interpretation of the value. As entered, the
TIMESTAMP keyword is expanded as it is processing rather than being a keyword
so you get the syntax error. Putting in the \ will keep it a keyword and your
qualifier should do what you wanted. This syntax is needed only for situations
where you are putting a qualifier inside the logic of an operation (not in the
RunIF but in places where normally the keyword is expanded during as the
operation proceeds).

(and I think it is a \. If not, try /…..)

NOTE: Still using the archive or escalation or other mechanism may be the best
answer for your specific situation. I just wanted to explain the reason that
you were having the issue with the qualifier below.

Trying to keep an "archive" of emails - we have a requirement to keep 6 months
worth in the system (audit trail, proof of sending, etc.), and the form was
actually turning out to be the largest on the system (over 7 million records -
I manually deleted the older ones via the user tool, that is not fun!).
In an active link, just trying a simple
 $PROCESS$ @@:Application-Query-Delete-Entry "AR System Email Messages" '3' <
($TIMESTAMP$ - (86400 * 75))
The 75 is related to a test system and the data that is on it (would obviously
be changed on live). The query itself is fine against the email messages form,
it just comes up with a qualification error when run via the active link.
Any suggestions? I could try an alternative using Application-Delete-Entry

in comparison to Application-Query-Delete-Entry.

Re: Limit Time Of Day a Filter Runs

2016-08-12 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
I have used something like this in the past ( Substitute $TIMESTAMP$ or
$SERVERTIMESTAMP$ for 'Create Date' )
Example of between 1 AM and 5 AM
('Create Date' - "1/1/70" ) % 86400) >= (1 * 3600)) AND ((('Create
Date' - "1/1/70") % 86400) <= (5 * 3600

The Logic is as follows
Take the date/time and subtract the constant of the first date allowed. This
converts the date/time to an integer internally in seconds.
MOD the date by the number of seconds in a day (This gives you the time of day)

You can then do your comparisons

If I do then what are the values for the fields in the record: Name, Status

someone with ITSM look in the Resource Definitions form and tell me the records
you have for Type = "BIRT Library".

Hi Frederick,

If you are not interested in other things on communities, it is very easy to
set it up in a similar way as it works now.

You get an email for each post, and you can reply to the post using email.

To get the complete thread you click on a link in the email to read it.

Or the thread view, in my email reader, also works fine on the communities
emails.

It is easy to create a mail-sorting-filter on the subject of the email to get
all future ARSList emails into a separate folder, just as I get my current
ARSList emails sorted :-)

So if you do not want things to change, it can stay more or less as it is now.

I think that Dan has made sure that something similar to the digest emails
will also be available. Right Dan?

Since it is owned by root then only root can modify

You will need to contact your system admin (whoever can login to the server as
root) to change the permissions/owner

If root has given you rights to run the chown command you could do
   sudo chown login.jsp

a member of a specific support group. Easy enough so I created an active link
to make the field required. Everything works as it should on submit, but even
though the lable is bold and has the asterisk, the system is not treating the
field as required on Modify. After doing some active link logging I decided to
disable my active link and make the field required on the HPD:Help Desk form.
Same behavior, it is enforced on submit but not on modify. Could this perhaps
be built in functionality for Remedy? If so are there any suggested work

Thanks all for the help so far. It appears that possibly the AR Server service
was up on 1 or more boxes when Linux was patched, causing a bunch of broken
library references, etc.

Still working on what to do about it long term - we're running some tests on a
"good" server seeing if we can break it right now.

I am hoping that if this is the cause we can just copy binaries, etc, from a
good server to a broken oneone thing at a time.

It might be related to the os libraries which might be causing segment

faults while executing the arforkd process. You could set your ulimit to

unlimited(ulimit -c unlimited) to generate a dump. It should go to the

ARSystem/bin dir

Also this is from KA331603

A log file name can be specified for the daemon by adding the line

Arfork-Log-File: xxx

to the AR System server's configuration file, where xxx is replaced by the name
of the file to which the arforkd should write its log. If a log file name for
the arforkd is specified, the arforkd will automatically be started by the
server with logging turned on. Note that setting the name of the arforkd log
file will have no effect until the arforkd is restarted, since the filename is
passed to the process when it is started. Unlike the AR System server, the fork
daemon does not perform circular logging, nor does it rename a log file if the
file exists when the daemon starts. Instead, the daemon always appends its
output to the file. This should ensure that we can learn the last action
performed by a daemon if it dies without worrying that the log file will be
removed if the process is restarted twice.

If the arforkd is started without specifying a log file and logging is turned
on, it will write its log to its standard output. Logging is turned on by
sending the arforkd a SIGUSR1 signal and turned off by sending the process a
SIGUSR2 signal. If a fork daemon log file is to be removed while the arforkd is
running, logging should be turned off before removing the file. Otherwise, the
file will remain open as long as the process continues logging, even though the
file's directory entry has been removed.

A last note: if the arforkd executable is not installed in the same directory
as the AR System server executable, the server will not be able to start the
fork daemon. In that case, the server will produce an error message and fall
back to running child processes itself.

TGIF Listers,

We have created an integration with a customer using the customers WSDL to send
data. All is working well with the exception of the time it takes for
attachments to be sent out of Remedy.

Currently sending a small 32k attachment takes 6 minutes for the attachment to
leave Remedy.

Is there a config setting or settings that control this?

Thank you for any help

Re: Sending request - mailto: Navigation was cancelled

2016-04-19 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Thomas,
A couple of questions.
What is your normal email program? In IE what do you have for your default
app to handle MAILTO?

And just for fun … What happens if you copy and paste the URL into an IE window?

The only thing I can see from your example that might cause an issue is that
everywhere in the URL you encoded the space as %20 except for the space between
Incident and Ticket. Try changing that one to %20 as well

I have also tried mailto and unless you are real good formatting across
multiple mail platforms and smartphones it might not get you the results you
want. In any case, good luck

** Mark,

yes, we use PERFORM-ACTION-OPEN-URL and tried with New and current. The problem
is IE not ARS.

The dialog option is of course nice, but we tried to keep it simple so we went
for mailto.

Thanks

Couple of options. First have you tried including current or new like
PERFORM-ACTION-OPEN-URL NEW

I think I am doing the same opening a custom pre-formatted email form. I handle
this by doing an open window (dialog) and then have a push field (create new
record) and close window behind the sent button. Then I have an on create
notify filter to actually send. Using the dialog allows you to size the “email”
form

Hope this helps.

Hello there,
we got a button that builds the URL to the current request and then we perform
PERFORM-ACTION-OPEN-URL $URL$ to open a new email.
The $url$ contains something like this:
mailto:?subject=Incident

Ticket:%2000869696=%0ALink%20to%20Ticket:%0A>.
This works just fine but when we do it in the Internet Explorer it has the side
effect that it opens and new IE window that says Navigation to the webpage was
cancelled.
Ideas how to get rid of it or alternative solution how to email a link to a
request?
Thanks
Thomas

I have a Form with 20 fields. I expose 10 of them using a Table Field.

Is it possible to pick 4 colums of those 10 and say show them by default and
leave it up to the user whether he want to make them visible or not? If yes,
how?

I know DATETIME fields store the value as epoch time. However, when I look into
the value for a DATE only field value, I get "2456797", which doesn't seem to
match epoch time. How does this get stored and is there a formula that can be
applied to the value to calculate the value to display the proper DATE in a
human readable- format?

Example: START_DATE in the database stored as 2456797, needs to display an
Oracle DATE type of 5/19/14.

I am busy investigating options however wanted to know if anyone else has done

Thanks in advance

Never mind. I found it.

For those of you who are wondering -

On the EA tab in the Server Information Configuration form, you'll see a box
called "Need To Sync". If this is set to 0, Remedy won't periodically make AD
checks.

If I recall correctly, there is a way to tell Remedy to not make periodic AD
checks every so often with a user's account that signed into Remedy using AREA
LDAP but for the life of me, I cannot remember how or where it's done.

Anyone know where the setting is at?

Do you have Skype/Lync application? Try opening a browser and put in the URL
the SIP:emailaddress (No Slashes, that was a typo in my earlier response)

Sip (being a protocol like FTP) have MIME associations for them, so the
standard browser will associate the SIP to call the Lync (or Skype) application
and use the app as normal.

Re: Vendor Form to external Oracle Database

2016-03-09 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Oops … that should have been
create a local database view in the ARSYSTEM schema pointing to the external
database

Basically in the local ARS database do
CREATE DATABASE LINK MY_DBLINK
CONNECT TO external_db_user
IDENTIFIED BY external_db_pass
USING '(description= (address_list= (address= (protocol=tcp)
(host=external_server) (port=1521))) (connect_data= (service_name=
external_service_name)))';

Then in the local ARS database do
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW MY_LOCAL_VIEW
AS
Select * From external_table@MY_DBLINK;

You can then create a View Form in ARS against MY_LOCAL_VIEW

One advantage of using the local database view of the external is if you have
multiple environments (Dev, Test, Prod, …) and you need to connect Dev to an
external Dev, … the ARS form is exactly the same in each. Only the dbLink
definition or local database view definition changes between environments.

You can then create a View form thru the dbLink (although I prefer to create a

create my View Form off of that)

No Vendor plugin needed for a View form

When I reset the Next ID to say 1001, it creates the next record using the next
