Hi,

I do not think you could even do that.

Instead you should get temp licenses from your sales rep to be on the safe side.

For a proof of concept or temporary testing, you should have no problem with
that.

You don't get those licenses free, they are an additional cost.
You only need those licenses if you are installing Sample Data. If you are not

Re: licenses question (minimum install) ITSM

2014-02-18 Thread Carl Wilson
Hi,

If you install ITSM, then the 'Fixed' licenses are pre-allocated to "Demo",
"appadmin" and "EscalationUser" (as of the 8.x versions).

Without licensing the Server on either a temporary license or full Server
license then you are restricted to these licenses to use the system as a
"Demonstration" system only. If you include the ITSM sample data then all
additional Users are allocated a "Floating" license - with the new "Blue"
pricing model you now have the concept of an Application license with an
included "ARS" license (x1) as opposed to the traditional separate
individual "ARS" and "Application" licenses (x2).

This is what Misi is referring too. It gets complicated once you introduce
"Suite" licensing ..

Doug can correct us here if we are way off mark J

I can understand not being able to use them with the ITSM application suite (as
that requires Application licenses), but not even for some separate custom work?

i.e. You have the ITSM app suite and you create a custom form that an outside
app pushes data into (or updates). Would that not be able to use one of the 3
fixed licenses?

Re: licenses question (minimum install) ITSM

2014-02-18 Thread Janie Sprenger
After you set the AR Server license (whether temp or permanent), you can
set the Application licenses and then the AR and Application user
licenses. You don't need keys for the Application licenses or the
Application User Licenses. I do believe that if BMC were going to audit
you, they would audit these numbers though.

There are people profiles that get loaded during the installation, they use
the application licenses (floating I think). If you don't have App and App
User licenses applied, the installer errors out.

That is the way I understand it too. I think you need that many license if
you are installing the sample data. I don't believe it is an issue to set
the server with 20 license across the board, instal and then reduce the
count to what you are actually entitled to (may want to double check with

Just in case you weren’t aware, you can run the 7.5 mid-tier with your 7.1

Ø I don't remember the version but after a certain version there is a setting
in MidTier that corrects the issue of a user closing the browser and the
license is still held for an hour.

It is in version 7.5.00 and later:

"You can set a delay timer that releases an AR System user license associated
with a user if that user navigates away from the mid tier or does not log out
of the BMC Remedy Mid Tier properly by closing the last browser window
associated with the current HTTP session.
The mid tier initiates a delay timer when the user closes the last browser
window associated with the established HTTP session. When the delay timer
expires, the user’s license is released, and the HTTP session terminated.
If the user navigates back to the mid-tier URL before the delay time expires,
the delay timer is cancelled, and the current HTTP session is resumed.

To set the timer, edit the License Release Timeout field in the BMC Remedy Mid
Tier Configuration Tool. See the “General settings” section of the BMC Remedy
Mid Tier Guide."

There is not a way to reduce the time out to under 30 minutes.

I don't remember the version but after a certain version there is a setting in
MidTier that corrects the issue of a user closing the browser and the license
is still held for an hour.

Hi All,

I have a couple of questions on BMC Remedy/ITSM Licensing:

(1)Documentation states the minimum time to release Floating application
licenses is 1 hour. Is there any way to further reduce this to 30 minutes?
Running BMC Remedy & ITSM applications version 7.1, when a user closes the
browser without logging out, is the license still held until the 1 hour limit
is up?

(2)I know there are utilities (that you can pay for) available that can
analyse the license usage and make recommendations, but is there any free
utilities (instead of trawling through logs) that would help optimise
allocation, usage and releasing of licenses? I am after something that will
give me a statement of which users logged in over a 24 hour period, how long
they remained in Remedy applications and how often they logged in and out of
Remedy during that period.

Thanks in advance,

Best regards,

Khalil,

I have a utility that I have written for 7.5+ that analyzes the data in the
tables collected by the server and makes recommendations on moving users
from fixed->floating and vis versa.I'm planning on trying to present it in
the local RUG later this year and making it available to the world after
that.but it wouldn't work on the log files, or on your version.

The data is in the User log if it's turned on. Additional information can be
found with the Server Statistics form if that is turned on.

If you don't use RRR log analysis you can write your own to parse through the
data.

Hi,

Just to elaborate a little bit.

There is a test version of RRR|License that will give you overall
statistics, and it will also tell you exactly how many licenses you would
be able to free.

The full version will give you the list of users to swap in order to free
the licenses.

(1)Documentation states the minimum time to release Floating application
licenses is 1 hour. Is there any way to further reduce this to 30 minutes?
Running BMC Remedy & ITSM applications version 7.1, when a user closes the

(2)I know there are utilities (that you can pay for) available that can

I will second that recommendation. In fact, typically I recommend that you
keep the type of license (fixed/floating) the same across a particular user.
Even in the situation where you have a fixed AR System user license and
floating app licenses, a user could be frustrated and confused if they can do
work in a custom application, but not in BMC provided applications (if a
floating app user license is not available).

It's not mandatory, but can cut down on user complaints and calls to your help

There was a error on a filter that counts licenses. Capture a log and review
the filters that check for fixed licenses and you will see the qualification is
not including fixed as it should.

Subject: Licenses not applying through people form

**

I’m just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem-

When I try to assign fixed Incident Management licenses via the people form, I
get an error that says “Unable to assign Fixed license. All Fixed licenses (8)
for ‘Incident Mgmt/Service Desk’ have been assigned.”

However, if I go to the user form and add BMC:Incident Mgmt User Fixed to the
application license field, it works fine and I get the note that “the following
application fixed licenses have been granted BMC:Incident Mgmt 5/8.”

It seems like the people form isn’t seeing that we have licenses available. Has
anyone seen this before?

As Axton noted Unix systems are licensed to hostid instead of to the NIC. All
most everytime we see this on our SUN servers we would stop the AR System,
delete the .multilicense file and then restart the system.

** License files are under /etc/arsystem//

Couple of things:
- Multiple copies of arserver on the same box
- Corrupt .multilicense
- hostid changed
- license file was removed or altered
- permissions changed on license file

Hi Puneet Malik,

Unfortunately, there is no such table.

You can turn on server statistics to monitor license usage.

The user.log-file is a good place to go for license usage statistics.

You can use the FREE part of our rrrLicense-tool tool to parse and present
the data in a nice way: http://www.rrr.se/c/online/l/rrrlic1.png

You will also be able to determine how well you have allocated your licenses
at the moment, as well as your optimum mix of FIXED vs FLOATING licenses.

Access the tool by registering at rrrOnline: https://www.rrr.se

Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://www.rrr.se

Hello All,

In our organistaion there is a need to monitor licenses (Fixed,
Floating, Read) for remedy (6.3).

Can anybody help me by telling the name of database table (database
fields description) that is populated used when a license is allotted to
a user. So that I can pick the information from db table and compare it
with arsystem.lic and get the trend on the remedy servers.

Also, if somebody can tell me is the remedy schema documented and is
available to the customers.

Thanks to please help ASAP.

Regards
Puneet Malik

Re: Licenses monitoring

2006-04-27 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Marwa,

Sorry, I did not see this post until now.

We had a server-down-problem in the early April, this is probably why you
got the error message...

The server has been running fine since the 12th of April.

You can either upload and compile your logfiles to our server, or you cand
download and install rrrOffline on your desktop computer to keep
everything behind your firewalls.
