[AsburyPark] Re: The Look of Things -- a very strange bird
Sure Werner, I'll try to answer the questions one at a time: Do you like Asbury Park? An objective observer would have to say I do. Take a look at the facts. All my family history is here. I am a third generation AP'er. My paternal grandfather built the Son's of Italy on Asbury Avenue. My maternal grandfather was a Deputy Chief of the Fire Department. I went to the schools here, was married here, etc. I still spend more time here than anywhere else. I collect the City's memorabilia. I moved my office here and took a marked hit in profits (I knew that would happen) because many clients were initially afraid to come here, but I wanted to assist the Downtown. My business pays rent here and I create jobs here. I'm currently under contract to buy property here. I was a founding member of the Merchants Guild, and have done all their legal work pro bono for 3 years now. I volunteer my time free to the UEZ board. I volunteer my time free to the Parade Committee. I give money to every civic group that asks (believe me they ask constantly). I've supported our Police Department so much that the head of the Union for the State of New Jersey made me an honorary lifetime member of Asbury's local. I give historical speeches with a slide show to civic groups about AP, and instead of taking a stipend (which they offer), I ask the group instead to meet me at my office on a Friday afternoon, so I can give them a free tour of the Downtown stores (I have to close my office to do that). I take the AP Press to task for being unfair to AP as often and as hard as I can. Try asking them to do a story about my free Downtown tours which is great for our stores. They won't. They had no problem printing the story about my office being burglarized though. See, it's only bad news about AP that's worth printing for them. That's why I prefer the Coaster. I vigorously defend this City against people who say such things as our residents can't make an intelligent, informed decision or that we are basically a racist community. I would like to see the gentleman who originally asked me this question to list what he does for AP, other than complain about it. The answer Werner is yes, I like, even love AP. Let me note this: Taking all of the above together gives me no more or less right to speak about AP or to be taken at my word on issues about AP. I have no entitlement to be right (or wrong) on an issue based upon who I am, what I've done or what I've studied. I'm either right or I'm wrong because I am correct or not about what I say, not because of who I am. Why don't you like historic buildings? I do. I just don't see many here in AP. Why don't you like views of the Ocean? I love views of the Ocean. That's why I want to have one for myself, preferably a condo on top of a boardwalk pavilion. What is that old saying? A developer is someone who wants to build a house in the woods. An environmentalist is someone who already owns a house in the woods. Sorry if progress takes away some existing ocean views, but really Werner, if the guy who has a house just west of yours complained that your home destroys his Ocean view there on 5th Avenue, I doubt you would tear your house down for him. The gentleman who originally built your house didn't buy the argument either. Now that you live there, I'll bet you are glad he didn't care about his westerly neighbors complaining about loosing their Ocean views. Why shouldn't the taxpayers be fairly treated? What post did I make saying otherwise? I'm sure you don't read my column, but if you read my piece on the Kelo decision you certainly wouldn't be asking me this question! Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Re: what BS -- a little old lady in Kankakee ( traderdube)
Tommy more than cleared the air of whatever there may be between him and Asbury Partners. One last kick at the trader from Kankakee. Dube Tommy has never cleared the air re his relationship with Asbury Partners. He denies working for them, which might be true, but as his ever so clever writings reveal, he has at minimum an unholy alliance with the Fish, whom he protects despite financial injury to his nephew. For the record, I suspect Tom has not received compensation from Asbury Partners; this is not unusual, The Fishman doesn't pay anyone; what he does is milk people for whatever utility they might provide. As to our friend the `ridiculous and pompous fool', Tommy hates silly ass he thinks it's a curse (Definition: An appeal to some supernatural power to inflict evil on someone or some group). Below, unedited for your full reading pleasure, our `friends' best lawyerly shot at making a point undecipherable to any but a lawyer. Note: If the below wins case law, someone should call a cop. ' 11389 he said: I have to ask when you intend to disclose your latest and apparently primary occupation, that of mouth piece for The Fishman? His intent: To accuse me of getting money from Fishman (going so far as to say it is my occupation). 11393 he said: As to proof that he doesn't pay; you and I know that The Partners screwed your nephew in their `haunted house' scheme, Larry stiffed you for a copy of a print of yours and stuck you with the tab for a lunch he invited you to in part to thank you for your services providing him that print. His intent: To accuse me of never getting money from Fishman. Behold the contradiction: First post I'm paid by Fishman, second post I'm not.' Tommy, Tommy, Tommy when will you learn? You are working for the Fish; you're his latest and greatest mouthpiece; good for both of you, you deserve each other. Please note that comment is circa 2005; specifically 8/17/05. The subsequent charge, that he `screwed your nephew etc.' is circa 2003; when those events transpired and, you're gonna have some `splainin' to do with Larry; you Tom DeSeno uttered them to me. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, Skip Bernstein [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: And that is slime ball bull shit skip. At the Paramount Homes site along Kingley street one can now see the relationship of the building to the street line. I think a lot of people are in for a rude awakening when they realize how close the new building is to the street. werner, i disagree, and wonder why you think that? werent you the one who commented on the west ocean grove square? that it was built too far back from the street, causing it to not match the surrounding downtown area? meaning, the rest of mainstreet. from the way i see it, if you have too much of a front yard, it looks like the building is floating around. you can tell whats new, and whats old. thats usally a dead giveaway, in my mind at least. i dont know. they could have built kinglsy far away from the street, but they didnt. which is good, beasue it will match the rest of cookman. __ Do You Yahoo!? I forgot about the paint store. I forgot the names of the Kids store on Cookman and Bond and there was a Thom McAnn where the Koreans are now. Oh, and J.J. Newberry's! The little restaurant where the Black Box is, too! It all comes back! Lerner's was downtown, also. Asbury had EVERYTHING! 2 drugstores, 3 dime stores, Chi-Chi Boutiques, smaller more affordable boutiques, where Larry Lawson's Mom worked! People looked like you and if they didn't, they knew you as a regular, in their stores. I was NEVER followed around like they do, now, which I totally ignore them because I never enter a store if I don't have the plastic OR the cash! The NEW people, running around calling themselves the Association, guild, merchant's whatever, were NOT here through the lean years and they think they know what makes Asbury Park tick! Blacks grew up with the whites, went to school together, and no, it wasn't perfect, but you understood what the game, was. Any whites caught on the Ave., stuck out like a sore thumb, so to ask why white kids are in a particular neighborhood, unless they were delivering Pizza, speak VOLUMES! It opened around 1975, with the Steinbach Store being the anchor, then Sears moved across 66, from where the IHOP is. The main entrance to Sears was there. The closing of Steinbach's on Cookman sounded the death knell of the "old" downtown. The rest of the stores went to Norwood Ave., in Deal, like Pix Shoes. Nahan's and Fischs's moved to Ocean township on Hwy. 35. Nahan's is still where is moved to. Fisch's went out of business. Bob and Irving's, Pix Shoes, the Army /Navy Store on Main St. are where the new Municiple complex is. By 1975, only the Baronet and one other theatre was open. The Savoy on Mattison, closed! The Press Box restaurant, Rexall's, (Sonny's), Bob and David's, Wolco's, the Record store, Mr. Fashion, and a couple of dime stores, Woolworth's, WTGrants and another, were all that was left. Canadian's at Press Plaza closed shortly after. The small boutiques also moved to upscale Deal or Allenhurst. The Bra and Girdle factory were there through the 80's, then they closed by Kennedy Park. Bergers moved to Seaview Square and Dainty Apparel closed. I was a professional shopper back then, with 5 growing children, so I knew where the clothes, shoes, eyeglasses for my kids and Varsity Jackets were, that they HAD to have! First Communion, Confirmation, Buster Brown and Stride Right Shoes were ALL purchased rith there on Cookman, Ave., THE place to be, until the remaining stores shut down, one by one! Re: [AsburyPark] Re: rock the boat...don't rock - independent council
I just thought someone in this audience would give a synopsis of it. Some people here get flippant when you have the audacity to ask the hard questions. When some get on the council, I've been told I don't understand anything! It's one of the reasons I hate coming to a meeting at City Hall. There is a lack of common decency lacking, like if you ask them a question that puts them on the spot, they get defensive, especially when they've done something perceived as illegal! They never give a straight answer then they start asking around as to who YOU are, who you are ALIGNED with, like you have to be part of a group and heaven forbid, if you're black! You're automatically labeled a "troublemaker", simply for asking the hard questions, like when is construction going to begin? How many minorities, (any color), are going to be hired? What is Asbury Park doing about the illegal immigrants, here? I certainly can't go to Mexico and stay forever! It's against the law and is ILLEGAL! Yet, I see them on roof-tops, ripping or hammering away! The Union hall is on Drummond Ave., in Neptune. Wonder how THEY feel? It's a lot of issues for a small city but the City Manager is being PAID, so he should EARN his high-priced salary! [AsburyPark] Re: The Look of Things
-CH is Convention Hall. The reference is to the liquor license being used by Asbury Partners at the Tiki Bar. How bout the license for Club Deep? AP Partners said they wanted a family BW and the first thing they did was open two alcohol establishments. But no rides for the kiddies. GO FIGURE! -- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, Sharon G. Re: [AsburyPark] Sleeps with the Fish, et al.
I agree 100% but if the shoe fits, as they say. Many deals are done behind closed doors, too. The old you rub my back, I'll rub yours. quid pro quo. So what gives? Will the REAL truth, please stand up? With the two new councilmen being absolved from the remaining three, what is their mission? Do they have a "secret" agenda? I say that, because NOTHING has been done and Asbury Partnersseem to berunning the City, not the people!SharonBoone[EMAIL PROTECTED]--\"dfsavgny\"<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote:Farbeitfrommetobringsomemodicumtothisforum,butheregoes.Ourcriticismsandanalysesarevalid.Let'snotbewrittenoffaswewereinthelastelectionasabunchofconspiracytheorists.IfinfactsomeonehasFACTSaboutsomeimproprietybetweenelectedofficialsorcityemployeesandAsburyPartners,thencertainlydivulgeit.Ifitisarumouroryourownspeculation,thenIrespectfullysuggestyoudonotspreaditviathisforum.ItisclearthatcityleadershaveletAsburyPartnersrunroughshodoverthiscity.Theagreementisone-sidedandstinkstohighheaven.Thosearefactsthatcanbeeasilyperceivedbyanyone.Whythisissoisanotherquestion.Wecanspeculateifpeoplearebeingpaidofforhaveothervestedinterestsbutitisjustthat,speculationandIthinkwithoutproofdoesusmoreharm.ThereisclearlysomethingrotteninthestateofDenmark.Yahoo!GroupsSponsor~--GetfastaccesstoyourfavoriteYahoo!Groups.MakeYahoo!yourhomepagehttp://us.click.yahoo.com/dpRU5A/wUILAA/yQLSAA/Y2tolB/TM~-Yahoo!GroupsLinks*Tovisityourgroupontheweb,goto:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AsburyPark/*Tounsubscribefromthisgroup,sendanemailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]*YouruseofYahoo!Groupsissubjectto:http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/ SPONSORED LINKS United state patent United state flag United state patent search Trademark united state United state quarters Asbury park nj YAHOO!
